American family menu with optional kids and senior dishes. You can find sandwiches, burgers, pot roast, steaks, soups, and salads. I ordered the pot roasted with mashed potatoes and rice pilaf. Meat was fork tender and gravy went well with the potatoes and roast. Prices are low as compared to traditional family eats. Service was friendly and kept up with my refills. Brendee and Dustin. TOOK CARE OF US. We went to celebrate my daughter's 4th birthday, party of 10 people, and Brendee took care of us in such an amazing way. Dustin the manager came to check up on us to make sure we were just fine. On top of that, my wife just got diagnosed with an autoimmune disease that requires her to eat gluten free, and the staff took it seriously. Finally, the food was amazing! The staff are friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. Sure the decor could be updated, but they lean into to the nostalgia and it's cozy. It's clean, comfortable, and the food is all enjoyable and tastes fresh. On this visit we had fish and chips, steamer clams with garlic toast that reminded me of childhood, and the kids cheeseburger - plus a slice of lemon cream pie. Let me start by saying that I wouldn't set foot in this place while it was Spiffy's because I didn't want to give my money to an overtly political establishment whose ideology didn't align with my own. Yay, free market! So, I was disappointed to see over the top, commercialized "patriotism" in all its star spangled tackiness plastered all over the walls, including the "we stand for the flag and anthem" racist dog whistle. I was already seated and the extremely friendly and attentive waiter had already taken our drink orders by the time I realized my error so didn't walk right back out. Ah, well. It was spendy at $17.99 for three pieces but I figured I could take the third piece home to eat later. Silly me. The fish was crispy, delicious, and basically the size of the fish sticks elementary school kids get served for lunch. It legit looked like they took two normal sized pieces of cod, cut them in half, then breaded and fried three of the resultant four nuggets and called it good. It was pretty disappointing. I opted for double fries as I'm not a coleslaw fan. They, too, were crispy and delicious. I got a side of brown gravy to dip them in and was happy with my decision. My friend ordered the bacon cheeseburger with Bleu cheese. She said it was "not great" but I can't truly review it since I didn't steal a bite. I thought it looked pretty good. I got two pieces of pie to go. The slices were really generous. My husband didn't like the apple pie, saying it was too heavy on the cinnamon and nutmeg. I tried some and thought it was just right, so there's that. The lemon meringue pie wasn't the best I've ever had, but I enjoyed it. Overall, I liked the food, thought the portion size of the fish was dismal for the high price, was impressed by the service and how quickly and efficiently the kitchen crew got the food out, and would have appreciated the potatriot kitsch decor better if my name was Flagg Eagleton or Shooter McFreedomsen. read more

Ate here a few times since moving to the area. Food is pretty basic. Lots of frozen bagged food I'm sure you can find at Costco. Not the real issue though. The big issue is the unsupervised bar in the back. Never staffed, always open and nefarious. Had an issue the other week where my partner was harassed and run out of the bar by some "good ol' boys" presumably due to the color of his skin. No bar staff around to stop this situation. After the fact I called to speak with the owner, who apologized but didn't really understand the gravity of what happened nor the responsibility of being a bar owner. The icing on the cake is, when I called maybe 30-45 minutes after the situation occurred, she said that " those men are leaving now". Which means they continued to serve belligerent, racists after being told what happened. So beware, the behavior of patrons that is not only tolerated but supported in this place is quite terrifying. I pray that no one ends up dead here due to this gross negligence, fecklessness, and atmosphere of inequality or lack of respect for fellow humans this place harbors. read more

This place was a Spiffys for eons and my go-to place when ever I was in the area. I do the run to Windy Ridge annually (and also Mt Rainier and the train in Elbe now and then) so Spiffys was a welcome destination for a great meal before the final leg home. So we pull up on the motorcycles and oh-oh..... it's not Spiffys anymore. Oh well, we're here.... the folks who ran Spiffys were around my age and I believe the founders were the previous generation, now long gone. This was a GREAT restaurant! A Christian family (not that I care so much about that but they were very good people). Also true American patriots. Not just the owners but also a huge percentage of the patrons. I was frequently "thanked for my service" and sometimes an anonymously purchased pastry would show up at the end of the meal from some Patron who preferred to remain anonymous. Now I didn't go in the military in the hopes of free slices of pie in my senior geezer years but the thought is very much appreciated. And I do generally pay it forward. Suffice it to say that I loved this place! The owners. The staff. The clientele. So we're here and I figure why not give the new owners a chance. I didn't know that there was already a Papa Bear in Morton. Go inside and except for the branding changes it looks pretty much the same. The wait staff was a little pokey recognizing our presence although there were several staff just standing around like dummies. Finally get seated at a table and not a booth even though there were a gazillion empty booths available. No idea what that level of disrespect was all about but it was red flag #2. Meal showed up and it was obviously nuked... and not for very long because parts or it were warm, other parts were ice cold. It was supposed to be a *HOT* turkey dinner. Cold, stingy portions, not especially tasty. If I was married and the wife served something like that to me she'd be scraping it off the ceiling. I'm exaggerating, of course. Friend had the gobbler and I heard no complaints. $30 not including the tip so pretty pricey. Although the way things are going I'm guessing we'll be lucky if restaurants are even able to get food in a month or two. So it's like gasoline. In Washington it's $6.50+ a gallon which I'm guessing will be viewed as a bargain a few weeks from now. You voted for these guys who are bringing insanity to America, right? So... food=one star. Prices=one star. Staff= 2 1/2 stars. So I'm posting a very generous 2 star rating for this place. Will I be returning? Unlikely. Looks like I need to find a new favorite eating place up in the area. This place left me as cold as the "hot" meal they served up. They don't have thermometers in the kitchen? There's nothing I know of between Randle and I-5 south, sadly. Major bummer. New location for Papa Bear's, who's original restaurant is in Morton, WA. Old site for Spiffy's, a 1970's landmark at the corner of I-5 and US Hwy 12 that closed down in 2021. The building has been "spiffed up" inside and out, with new, brighter paint, carpet and fabrics. We were there for dinner three days after their grand opening for dinner. 1/2 hour wait for a table, then a long wait to order and a much longer wait for food. For a new restaurant training new staff, long waits are to be expected. We're certain things will smooth out in time, as with staff shortages, etc., it will take them several weeks to work out the kinks... My wife ordered the fish and chips and I ordered the captain's plate. Portions were adequate, though not generous. Food was good, however neither of us was thrilled with mango cole slaw. The service was good, but again, teething pains. Again, we're simply thrilled there is another restaurant in this location, as there aren't that many in this part of Lewis County. We pray the new location is successful and wish them all the best. read more

Papa Bear's West is approximately halfway between Portland and Bremerton, which is a drive my family makes a few times a year. The menu options are great for hungry road trippers and the small-town diner vibe is lots of fun. Today, particularly, our server (Barbara!) was very patient with our booth full of loud and enthusiastic children and the various requests that came along with meeting their needs. We took my grandchildren here the chicken strips were mushy, the other grandson had a Philly cheesesteak that he said tasted awful the fries were soggy. Brought the appetizer with our meal. The fries were evidently cooked in old grease. They did take the kids meals off our bill but when my husband said the chicken fried steak was tough she replied he was the only one who complained. We had been there once before but it had been a year thought we would try it again. I'll never go back. Paper towel dispenser was not working in men's bathroom and was pretty shabby I was told. Papa Bear's West is an elevated roadside restaurant that's just off Interstate 5, between Seattle and Portland, and if you're hungry for a fabulous, indulgent breakfast--as we were this morning--you'll love the eggs Benedict (I had mine with crabmeat instead of Canadian bacon); the chicken and waffles (the husband's choice); or one of the many other freshly-made treats. We loved the truffle-Parmesan fries, which arrived piping hot and topped with Parmesan shavings. Our only regret is that we were too full for dessert, but I'm including a pic of the impressive array of fresh pies offered at Papa Bear's, and I fully plan on taking a whole coconut cream pie home with us when we're back out here in the near future. Forgot the lunch I was going to bring to work and stopped in, hoping they could help me out in a jiffy. Even though it was breakfast time, the waitress had compassion on me and agreed to make me a quick grilled cheese with some fries. Easy on-the-go food. Not only was it a great price, but it was ready less than 5 minutes after I paid. The food was fantastic! Crispy bread, cheese perfectly melted, and nice salty fries. Ordered food to go. Was told 20 minutes showed up 25 minutes later wasn't done. My order was done one at a time with several minutes between each order, so the first item was sitting there for about five minutes. All three containers sat out while the manager fixed a side salad for the Reuben. Got home and the Mountain Burger, which is over $17.00, had no toppings on it, the salad had a lot of brown lettuce in it, the Reuben had one thin layer of meat in it. Décor hasn't changed much. Still the same booths. Not real busy today. . . Anyway, a friendly hostess seated me, and I ordered a basic hamburger and fries. (I always like to start out simply). The menu says "hand pressed" burgers. Well, 35 minutes later, I get a perfectly round burger with sharp edges. Even had those "fresh frozen" grill marks on it! Fortunately, I got one soda before their carbonation system broke down. I will say, the Hostess and Server were great. Couldn't ask for better service, but the one cook they had was in no hurry to fill the orders. I think next time I'll call ahead, and order a Cook. read more

However the first time I had called I was asked to hold, after about 5 minutes of waiting they hung up the phone, I called again where they finally took our orders and repeated it back to us, everything seemed perfect. When I got home from picking up the food I was greeted with the wrong burger. The burger was also over cooked and was tough, French fries were also tough. I'm not mad just a little disappointed for my first time experience. I might try it out again, but I'm hoping for a little better of a experience. And a non burnt burger. Ordered 2 orders of wings and they only had one ready, so after looking in the container just decided to go with one order after all. Wings were ordered with no sauce as I provide my own. Even so, they were overcooked and very dry and no seasoning whatsoever. I'm not sure what I was expecting but not that. Service was fine at the front counter. Won't be going back, not even for a beer since I noticed they still serve Bud Light, you know the story...., just makes a difference to me. When we first moved to the area we were super excited that this restaurant was so close to our home. We have been going there for almost a year and sadly we will not be going back. The first couple times the food was OK. Not great but Ok. Slowly over 9 months it has just got worse. The last time my husband ordered a chili burger with no bun. The burger was black and the chili beans were undercooked. I ordered a hot turkey sandwich. The turkey tasted like it had been in the freezer for a year and the gravy was cold. When we mentioned to the waitress why we had not eaten our meal she said "oh I'm sorry I will let the cook know" and set our bill on the table. We were very excited to try this new spot for breakfast. The service was good, and the hash browns were very good. The home fries were like dried up deep fried pieces of potato (not even hot). You will make a smash hit with the home fries if you just bake extra potatoes at night then for breakfast cut them up and fry them (to order) with some butter and salt, so good!! Papa Bears West has been my go to since it opened. The staff is always friendly and food has been on point. The meats used are quality and juicy every time. The portions are well balanced with the price. I have read some of the negative reviews and don't understand some of them.
