Han and eggs, home made rye toast.
Peter T.

Papa Gs is an all-day diner located in Huntley, IL, a far distant suburb of Chicago. In the before times, it was one of my regular go-to's for breakfast out, but I haven't back in until today. Their service is without fault, the food is terrific, and everything on the menu is fairly priced and a good value. I usually go for breakfast, and I did today, and what draws me to their breakfast (besides your food being prepared exactly how you order it) is their homemade bread option for toast.  I get the rye and it's superb. Got my eggs "up" and asked for my potatoes to be extra crispy, they were, and for the ham to have a little char on it (it did), I like the texture that gives the pork.  Their ham is "off the bone" meaning, sliced from a whole or half ham, not one of those weird chewy ham slices loaded with a brine injection that most places serve. Like most diners of this type in the area, most lunch and dinner entrees come with a complimentary bowl of soup in addition to your choice of sides.  Breakfast is served all day. There are daily specials, usually found on a board in the vestibule, or ask your server. Another feature I like about area diners is the tabletop offerings, always plenty of condiments, sweeteners, spreads for toast, a basket of creamer, and one chock-a-block full of butter and Papa G's is no exception. Like most places, Papa Gs has had some difficulty getting staffing levels back to normal and looking around the room, I'm gonna take a wild guess that a lot of family members are filling in.  And that's terrific, isn't it? The restaurant has a very lengthy menu of choices, no matter what time of day you're dining. The restaurant is located at 10502 IL-47, Huntley, IL 60142, just a few miles north of the I-80 Huntley exit. I'm happy they survived the difficulties, and wish them the best of luck for their continued success.  Oh, and the homemade bread?  You can get a loaf to go if you like! Hours are  5A-9P Monday thru Saturday and until 3 PM on Sunday.

This place was good! I've heard good things and read all the reviews. The reviews didn't disappoint. Located off 47, in Huntley it's one of the only breakfast spots / diners in the area. The prices are better than Maple and Hash and Brunch Cafe- much more affordable. Food came out quick and piping hot, just as ordered! The menu is big which I loved! The offer lunch , apps, soups, salads, breakfast, sides, kids menu. They have booth seating, a bar, and tables. You are greeted by a hostess upon arrival who will seat you. Didn't visit the restrooms so I can't comment on those. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. She mentioned to another table she's been working there 20 years so they know how to treat their employees! Lots of regulars appeared to be dining today. Parking lot is large but difficult to get out of if turning south onto 47. Hours are posted in picture below. They do offer take out. They have homemade bread and it was delicious! The hashbrowns were ok- I should have added the peppers and onions for an up charge.

Oh my...I love this place. The owner is so kind and the food is just delicious! It's definitely my favorite breakfast place in the area. I can't wait to go back! We've never had a bad meal at Papa Gs!

Fast and tasty. Forget the franchise restaurants if you are in the area. Skillets are amazing as are the croissant breakfast sandwiches.

Their fresh baked rolls earn the 5 stars by themselves. Not just plain rolls but a nice selection.

The food itself was quite good, but the experience was a bit tricky as a gluten-free diner. There are no GF labels on the menu. When I asked our server what I could eat, she initially suggested the gluten-free pancakes and gluten-free toast. However, when I asked if the pancakes were cooked on a separate griddle, she had to check with the manager and confirmed they are not made on a separate surface (though the hashbrowns are cooked separately). Ultimately, they also couldn't toast the GF bread either. I ordered a cheese omelette (cooked in a clean pan) with hashbrowns and untoasted GF bread. While the server wasn't super knowledgeable upfront, I really appreciated her taking the time to verify the kitchen's cross-contamination practices with management. Options are definitely limited, but the meal tasted great. The server also added gluten allergy to the ticket and advised no cross contamination.

Nice (if you are really hungry) portions. Hash brown potatoes could have been a bit more crispy, plenty of veggies, scrambled eggs done right. Nice menu for breakfast and lunch.

I got the vanilla iced latte decaf and i'd give it 7/10, the flavoring was a little off but was still enjoyable. Food wise we got french toast 5/10, bacon 7/10 and a bruschetta wrap 7/10 there was a lot of the balsamic, fries 10/10. French toast just didn't have much flavor and it seemed like just a cinnamon slice of bread. Wasn't giving much french toast vibes like with a brioche piece of bread. I'd give this place another try though as I really love the inside and our server made sure everything was taken care of.

I first had the veggie bliss omelette and the berry bliss pancakes. The omelette was satisfying and the berry bliss pancakes stood out on their own. The fruit and sweet glaze did not require any additional syrup and made for some delicious pancakes. I liked the barbacoa skillet the second time around. I think the meat could have had a little more seasoning , but the side of sour cream and picante sauce helped bring more flavor to the skillet. This time I had plain pancakes and they were no were as good as the berry bliss! Triple Berry is a solid breakfast spot for some good eats.

The staff was warm, friendly, and genuinely attentive -- even on a cold winter morning. That matters. A lot. You can tell they actually care about the people walking through the door and the food was amazing! Allen's has that true home-style, neighborhood diner feeling -- the kind you don't find very often anymore. And let me say this... I've lived in Pingree Grove for three years and somehow never knew this place existed. I've driven past it plenty of times -- blink and you'll miss it -- but now? It's officially one of my favorite local spots. Quick heads-up for first-timers: Bring cash. They're old-school -- and honestly, I respect that. I love supporting local restaurants and knowing more of my money is going directly to the people and the business -- not getting eaten up by unnecessary fees to big companies. Real food. Real people. Real community. This place is exactly what a local diner should be.

We got there at 7:00am on a Friday and we made it just in time, because by 7:30, every seat was taken... including at the counter. It's an intimate and cozy little place, warm and comfortable. The food was great, with huge portions. I got the Neighbor Benedict, which was a mountain of gravy on top of a biscuit, two sausage patties, and two poached eggs and it included a healthy portion of hash browns with onions. The only thing that was a slight bummer was that this place is cash only, and we didn't know that coming in. Thankfully there was an ATM inside, but the fees were high and my bank charges fees on the other side, so the reasonable prices turned out to be just as expensive as anywhere else. I will bring cash next time and upgrade this review to five stars.
