Bellpine has a beautiful panoramic view of downtown Portland, Mt.Hood, and Mt.St.Helens from 20th floor of the Ritz Carlton Hotel. The bar and dining area look elegant, bright, and comfortable. Staff were friendly and welcoming. I liked to try the testing menu, but everyone at the table had to participate, so we just ordered from regular menu. We ordered scallops ceviche, elk dumplings, halibut dish, and side of breads. All came out with beautiful presentation and delicious. A bit on slow ..but worth the wait. Have you heard (rum based cocktail) and bubble bath cocktail were yummy. Dessert was not bad. We went to Bellpine at the Ritz-Carlton and did the five-course tasting menu, and overall it was a really great experience. Review would probably be closer to a 4.5. The service was exactly what you'd expect from a Ritz -- top-notch, super attentive without being over the top. The atmosphere is honestly amazing. The views are incredible and the whole place just feels fancy and luxurious in the best way. The food did take a little longer to come out between courses, but it wasn't a big deal. You're there to enjoy the experience anyway. The first course was basically a donut stuffed with crab and it was unreal. So good. Probably one of the most memorable bites of the night. There was another dish that was super tasty as well (honestly everything hit). The steak was cooked perfectly and full of flavor. And dessert? Both the presentation and the taste were amazing. They clearly put a lot of thought into it. As far as taste goes, it's a 5/5 for me. The only small downside is the portions. For the price, I kind of wish they were a little bigger. Exceptional service from start to finish--our server was completely on point and attentive without being overbearing. Nothing to complain about at all. Both entrees we chose were on the dinner menu here: the tagliatelle and salmon. Both were not as described and bland. My salmon was gross. For breakfast we came to the restaurant and the views are lovely, tableware beautiful, and service was excellent. Our eggs, potato, toast and chicken sausage were not good. My scrambled eggs were bland and flavorless and tasted like powdered, the chicken sausage was so overcooked it was not even edible. I had three links and ate one of them the other two were hard and dry. The toast was ok. Our yogurt parfait with berry coulis and granola was good. The granola was very good. First off I'm so sorry to my server but she was beautiful woman with curly blonde hair who worked Christmas evening, I'm saying this because she serves to know she is the best server I have had in a while. I actually stopped going to restaurants that are of this ambiance because I recently had a baby and we know they can be unpredictable but even my daughter was like this place is vibe! Haha. Been here several times already and I loved the weekend brunch and November afternoon tea. The bagel lox is big enough to share and comes with a rose cream cheese that is just so delicious with all the trimmings and smoked salmon. We came here for a weekday lunch and had our choice of great tables that let us survey downtown Portland. Since all three of us felt like having a drink to celebrate our "sisters reunion," we order the local 2023 Abbey Road Farms Gamay Rose for $56. It was light and enjoyable. The lunch menu is rather limited. My sister and I both selected the Prime Rib Burger ($24), which comes with fries or a green salad. The tasty burger was cooked perfectly and topped with a melange of flavors - aged cheddar cheese, maple bacon, red onion, house ketchup and aioli. We both chose the fries, which were nice and crispy. My sister-in-law went rogue and opted for the corn and asparagus tagliatelle ($25). She thought the taliatelle with green asparagus, hazlenut, roasted corn puree and parmesan was okay, but we could tell she envied our dishes. We didn't really come here for the food. We came for the experience. Dining atop Portland in this relatively new hotel is fun and different. After our meal, we checked out one of the balconies, which can give you a fear of heights. Sugar/cinnamon and crab , no. The donut was so hard to chew it sent the crab out the sides so was practically eaten separately. The halibut was dry and flavorless. Cute decor with a nice view! I feel like Bellpine is a decent addition to Portland dining, maybe we came on an off day - but I wasn't blown away with the dishes. I am willing to try again though! I came with a larger party to celebrate a friend's birthday, I believe our group was 10 / 11 people, everyone ordered cocktails and it did take a little bit to get situated and start ordering which given our party size was understandable. Angie was our server and she did a wonderful job taking the order accurately and getting food out, as well as keeping drinks coming and was friendly to our larger party. Table ordered multiple dishes, some of what I enjoyed were the scallops and the carpaccio. The steak meal was underwhelming to me, the steak itself was just alright and I didn't really care for the sides it came with with the exception of the mashed potatoes. My girlfriend and I had an average to below-average experience at Bellpine on Valentine's Day. The space was gorgeous and the views were great. The drinks were overpriced for what they were but I was expecting to overpay so no real harm done there. The mac and cheese bits were tasty. What dragged down the experience was the subpar service. We sat at the bar, which at the time was less than half full (spoiler: this is important for later). We sat there for a long time before anyone even acknowledged us. When they did, they poured us some water and left. I noticed later that some new arrivals next to us were asked if they wanted sparking or still water. Why weren't we asked? Eventually we were able to place an orders but it seemed to take awhile. The drinks and food came promptly. Later I noticed that several patrons around us (and indeed the folks who sat in our seats before us) had bowls of snacks. As we were settling up I asked our waitress what they were, out of curiosity since I didn't see anything like them on the menu. She said they were complimentary nuts that everyone at the bar gets. Startled, since we weren't offered any, I remarked sadly "oh that's cool... we didn't get any, though." All she said was "oh, yeah, we're really busy". So yeah, pretty poor service experience from what we expected to be a top flight spot. I think is definitely an "experience" type of dining. I would suggest coming with a group of people as the main is intended as "shareable" and then they have a menu for two to share. They have a massive selection of wines. They offer zero proof cocktails and wine (skipped on the Cabernet Sauvignon and try the nonalcoholic sparkling wine if you want to try a nonalcoholic wine). The pricing is on the higher side. I am indifferent about the cost versus the quality. I tried the duck croquettes, pork belly, and lobster roll. Definitely try the pork belly! The duck croquettes were okay. The lobster roll had great flavor until the random curry flavor at the bottom of the roll and the bread was on the harder rather than softer side. read more

Unfortunately, at the time we came (and it also might've been because we had bar seating), there was no meals and we could just order dessert or small bites. However! We had already eaten before and just wanted to try the dessert and drinks here. The interior is dimly lit and has a beautiful view of Portland (regardless of day or night). In terms of service, the bartender was very attentive and kind, and service was quick. We ordered their dessert, "Desert", and it was very interesting. The desserts (from what I've noticed) take a more artistic style and are fun to look at. The dessert itself was pretty good, but not necessarily something that I would order again. Everyone that greeted us from the bellhop, maitre de, busboy to our waitress was great! After all that is the Ritz experience they have to provide and we received. It was quiet that evening so we sat at the bar and both ordered a mango cocktail with a smoke bubble on top. So fun! And delicious. The video shows one of us popping the bubble on our drink. For dinner we chose to share the duck Grand Dish which is served with roasted vegetables, marinated salad and yummy mashed potatoes, family style. The duck was carved table side by the manager. When I asked my son to pay special attention so he would learn to carve poultry, the manager slowed down and talked my son through the process. So kind. Everything was delicious. The restaurant has amazing views and perfect lighting. Now let's talk service. Each time I have been there, and it's been a few,I have been treated like a friend by every member of the staff. No kidding, every person - from the people watching the door, bar tenders and wait staff, hosts up in Bellpine, waiters and food runners - friendly, warm and considerate. Few of us ladies came for a post Christmas brunch. The hotel was still festively decorated as you make your way from the lobby to the elevator up to the restaurant. My companions ordered duck Gillette and dungeness crab Benedict. There was two other options for crab that I was torn about and then opted for the little more adventurous one instead of the crab sandwich. I loved my choice and did a pretty good job of polishing off 85% of it since I didn't have breakfast. My friends had mimosa while I thoroughly enjoyed my pot of the rose scented tea. We were honestly quite full but wanted to end out meal with something sweet and shared this cheesecake. Very light and lovely with the pistachio mousse and berry sauce. I was unaware that we would be the last seating for brunch which became apparent due to how few people were there! I was a bit concerned because had I realized I wouldn't have booked the time. But my concern melted away because it was a very good experience. Our waiter was very polite and had a witty sense of humor. He was attentive without being over-bearing and just fun! Bothersome is that tables next to the windows, maybe not all?, have vents with cold air blowing directly on you. Our first table was intolerable and the second better. But to have any tables next to the view with vents above blowing cold air down is just nuts. The staff acknowledged it is a problem. I had a simple Manhattan which for $25 or $28 was a bit skimpy and unremarkable if not maybe a bit over stirred making it on the watery side. The French fries were amazing and the crab sliders served in a closed box were quite nice however I wondered about the sugar topped buns which made your fingers sticky. I hope to update this review at some point on another visit, as one not-so-good experience isn't the end all but, yesterday's visit was just awful. Also, this review is just for the bar only. Yes, the location and views are Nines and PCG equal or better, and the ambience and decor is stellar. And the dinner menu and photos look amazing. But, the bar food is less than dive bar quality in taste. Mac and cheese bites, Kraft-like. Sliders, dry with almost nothing on them. Dumplings, mushy, un-appetizing texture with what appeared to be tempura or crunchy bits on top, that were soggy and added nothing. Fries, over fried, good seasoning and flavor, but some were not edible and they went downhill fast. All, very pricy, which at this place is totally to be expected, but I also expected them to be good. Drinks, are of course great, but it's not hard to serve top quality wines and spirits. Service is what really put a nail in this visit. They appear to be very understaffed, which is understandable--as far as bar service, but there sure seemed to be a lot of folks doing a lot of nothing. Our bartender, which I will not name here, as it just seemed like they were having a bad, busy night, was very stressed which came across as extremely rude, but I don't think they meant for that to be the case. Went here for brunch last weekend. The views were great, but the service and food wasn't on par with what you would expect at the Ritz. We waited nearly 20 minutes to get our coffee after we had ordered and that was only because I flagged down the server. The rosti potatoes (hash brown) was basically a frozen hash brown as were the breakfast potatoes. You get real fresh made potatoes from many other more reasonably priced breakfast places in town. To top everything off, the charge wasn't even coded as food and beverage so I didn't get my credit from my bonvoy credit card. Lame. The views, furnishings, and ambiance are what you would expect from a 2-year old Ritz dining room. I only ordered a baby romaine caesar sald and a glass of wine for dinner. The lettuce was fabulous as were the 2 or 3 croutons. The caesar dressing was completely tasteless; not a hint of anchovy. The colorful diced pepper garnish was useless and the cheap grated pecorino was tasteless. A good parmesan is basic. Thankfully, the attentive server delivered salt and pepper shakers. My glass of chardonay was agreeable, ample, and reasonably priced. I was not enthused by the trendy senseless dinner menu. The food ingredient quality was great and our server was friendly and polite. However, the food itself was so extremely salty that it was literally like eating salt. My family was hosting a special dinner for out of town guests so this was very embarrassing for us. The chef/team who prepared the food either doesn't have any gauge as to how their food tastes, or it was intentional. Other notes are the Salmon dish was extremely salty but the Beef dish was bland and no flavor. The Americanos and Lattes were pretty bad as well. Temperature was lukewarm and basically tasted like colored lukewarm water... for the sake of the restaurant's future, I hope the team will strive to do (much) better. Also, the server announced how many of each dessert were available (which was very limited in number)... I felt that was very strange, especially given it's a high-end restaurant. Other than my group, there were literally only 2-4 other diners in the entire restaurant during that time, so it wasn't a busy time either. For these reasons we most likely won't be returning... very unfortunate, since we wanted to support the Ritz in Portland. read more

Although the food was amazing and the ambience was great the service was one of the worse I have experienced. Our server was nonexistent for most of the time we were there. It wasn't because the restaurant was busy either. Our reservation was for 6:30 and we received our food after 8:15. During that time we ask for a refill on our ice tea and we had to remind someone other than our server to get it after she was reminded 2x. She spent most of her time talking with a table of 2 people and looking at pictures. On top of this it was a milestone birthday for me and I decided I wanted to celebrate here with my family because of fond memories a year ago here. What a mistake. My husband requested a cake when he made the reservation a month in advance and reminded the restaurant when we confirmed the reservation a few days ahead. They told him it would be there. The night of the dinner he had to ask for it several times and they had to scurry to get a substitute. The last issue was the bill. When we received it, from the absent server, I believe Bella was her name, it was over charged by close to $300.00 . We had that addressed and they graciously didn't charge for the cake. Naturally they added a 20% gratuity on the bill because there was 6 of us. This normally would have been okay because I usually tip 25-30% due to the fact I appreciate good service. Not this time. I resent having to give a server a 20% gratuity when she was nonexistent throughout our meal. I was told by my family to tell them to take off the gratuity but I didn't She was so bad when other staff members brought the cake there was not a knife to cut it. We ask her for a knife and she said no problem she would get one and proceeded to go to the table with 2 people and continue to talk with them. We had to ask again only to see that the knives were kept right behind her and it would have literally taken her 30 seconds to get one. Obviously you can tell I am upset over the experience. Mostly because this was a huge birthday year for me. If you check my other reviews I usually only remark when they are good to great experiences. This was not. read more
