Driving past the shopping center I noticed a tiny new sign that said "Papa Joe's Chicken and Waffles" I always say we need better places to eat in this area so was excited to see something different. I had to drive around the shopping center for a second to find this place. There isn't any big signage to lead you to it. The only sign currently is on the front door and I almost missed it. This is a very small restaurant mostly for to go orders as they only have one small table inside. The young lady who assisted was very nice. She let us know that everything is cooked to order and it would be around a 30 min wait. If we wanted to wait in our car she would text us when it was ready. I thought that was nice since there wasnt really any other place to sit and wait. We got a text at exactly 30 min that our order was ready. Everything on the menu sounded very good. I was surprised to see the other offerings besides chicken and waffles. It was nice seeing a variety of options though. I ended up going with the soulwhich. The portion sizes are on the smaller side. Which is fine because the prices arent to bad. The chicken on my sandwich was a little overcooked but id rather it be overcooked than undercooked. There were only a few macaroni noodles on it and a little bit of yams. Let me say the yams were so dang good! They really made the sandwich! Dinner on a bun! It was really good for something different. The bun was fresh and it was really good. I'll definitely be back for another one of those sandwiches! The steak fries didnt have a lot of flavor. They were very greasy. Also being thinner smaller fries they were cold when we ate them. I dont know if we would get the fries again. The burger was very good. Don't think I'll be back. The fish was ok. The chicken had a "burnt" taste to it and the rolls were cold and hard. The spaghetti lacked flavor and didn't have nearly enough noodles compared to the meat sauce. The Mac n cheese was flavorless and collards tasted like that had not been washed. I really wanted to love this new neighborhood spot, especially since we've been waiting for more soul food options in North Las Vegas. While the customer service was pleasant, the food unfortunately didn't deliver. It also didn't smell like food. No fried food, or sweet meal at all, which means they have a great exhaust system, but it also is a bit alarming for me. We tried the Philly Cheesesteak after seeing the owner enjoying one on social media, but it was a struggle to eat. The bread felt like it might have been older and was over-saturated to compensate, which just made the whole sandwich soggy and impossible to pick up. My oldest even mentioned the flavor reminded her of Hamburger Helper. So there's that, and once she said that her father agreed as well after trying it. The fries were just fries. Nothing special, they did hit them with a bit of a Cajun type seasoning salt. The catfish was also soggy on the bottom and fell apart instantly. Because the fish was packed on top of the chicken, the flavors bled together. The macaroni and cheese tasted bland and the noodles were over cooked. I appreciate the friendly greeting and the fact that everything was hot, but the textures and flavors just weren't where they needed to be. Especially for a soul food classic ! Tried this establishment twice. First time pleasant interactions with female at register, she was courteous and new a bit about the menu, what she didn't know she asked so I appreciated that. I ordered catfish and shrimp dinner and what I really loved was that the fish is actually real catfish and not Swai which some pass as catfish. The spaghetti was good as was the greens and mac and cheese. The second time was also a great experience met the owner very nice young man, gave me a history lesson of his and his family journey to Vegas. Another great reason why i will continue to come here is that the fish is wild caught. The haddock was good just frid to hard for my taste but I will for sure ask to not fry hard next time. So it does have 12 seats on 3 tables, but really is a takeout place in real North Las Vegas. Service was very pleasant and helpful. Ordered online, which was quick and efficient. Order on line and you get a free punch drink! Plus they have a rewards program. Had two orders of chicken dinners. Both the dark and white meat options came with plenty of chicken, fried crispy as a standard and little bit peppery. Dressing and cornbread were excellent as were the candied yams. Sweet potatoes were good. Best of all was the fluffiest biscuit I ever had. They just opened in November 2025, moving here from Buffalo NY. Had a great first visit to Papa Joe's. Chef J was energetic and welcoming. He answered our questions & was patient with us as we decided what to order. Place is small with limited seating though we did see many people come in to pick up orders. Everything we ordered was full of flavor. I had a chicken & shrimp combo with candied yams and the dressing (chicken). My husband chose the pork chops w/ collard greens & fries. Our daughter had the shrimp dinner w/ Mac n Cheese & fries. The shrimp were plump & fried really good. Chicken & pork chops may have looked burnt but it wasn't at all dry or lack of flavor. All our sides were tasty, too. The food was amazing! We got the catfish dinner- nicely seasoned & perfectly cooked, with collard green & Mac & cheese. It same with a sweet bread that had an amazing butter on top, a chicken dinner with Mac & cheese & yams- delicious & strawberry crunch waffle- was spot on the strawberry shortcake & it didnt need additional sauce! I've been here 3 times in the last few weeks the Philly cheese sandwich is next level. One of the best I've had in Vegas. Hot , cheesy and packed with flavor. This is a new establishment. It is small and easily missed. But so worth looking for it. It is next to an auto place and next door to a Roberto restaurant. Anyway someone told me about this place and I am so glad he did. I had the catfish platter with two sides. I usually don't like all dressing but decided to try it. It was delicious. Additionally, the pork chops very thin. The dinners were $18.99 each. Rather disappointing outcome after a 35 minute wait from order to receiving the dinners. I ordered there and waited. I recently tried Papa Joe's, a new Southern-style restaurant focusing on fried chicken, waffles, and classic Southern sides like mac & cheese and collard greens. The space is small, and you can tell they've only been open for about a month, so there's definitely a new-restaurant energy and a lot of enthusiasm behind the operation. The fried chicken was the highlight. It was clearly fried fresh to order, well seasoned, and had a nice, crispy breading. That said, the breading did tend to fall off the chicken, which took away a bit from the overall experience. The mac & cheese was good, but fairly standard--solid, but not especially memorable. The collard greens were where things fell a little short for me; they were missing that depth and richness I typically expect from traditional Southern collards. One area where Papa Joe's really shines is customer service. Everyone was incredibly friendly, and the chef/owner personally came out to greet guests and chat with tables. It's clear he's passionate about what he's building and genuinely cares about the people who walk through the door. Overall, Papa Joe's has a welcoming vibe and some good elements, but at this stage the food felt average, especially given how strong Southern cuisine can be when it really hits. With time, refinement, and consistency, there's potential here--but for now, it's a pleasant experience more for the hospitality than for standout food. read more

Incredibly delicious soul food!!! The crispy and well seasoned catfish and fried shrimp combo was bomb. The Mac and cheese and yams were amazing. I tried the wings, which were fried to perfection in a seasoned batter and then tossed in a soulful sauce which had a little sweetness, mildly spicy, but 100% incredibly flavorful!!! The Strawberry crunch and carrot cake waffles were to die for. The mystery punch was bursting with flavor, reminding me of Jolly Ranchers candy flavor, but not overly sweet. Amazing food. I went in with some pretty high expectations for this place. We were greeted warmly and the customer service was excellent! We had a small wait for the food and for it to be cooked to order so I didn't mind the wait. What I did mind was the lumpy sweet potato pie that I received. I mean who does that? Also the pork chop dinner consisted of two of the skinniest chops I'd ever seen and the candied yams weren't cooked all the way through. The fish portions were smaller than what I thought they should have been for the amount of money I paid. Also the dressing was giving very much stove top that had been doctored up to make it appear as if it had been made from scratch. (I will say that in regard to the dressing it took me down memory lane on those nights that my mom made stove top to go with the fried chicken she was cooking for dinner. So I liked it.) The collard greens were tasty...but that could be because they tasted like doctored Glory Greens. All in all I would definitely temper my expectations if you plan on eating here in the future. Best Fried Catfish and Chicken in town. Everything is made from scratch and takes usually about 30 minutes so make sure you order an advance and have plenty of time since everything is made to order. As far as the ambience it's very basic they have a few tables if you're lucky enough to grab a table, and eat there. It's pretty much order to go. I arrived at the restaurant when it opened and the collard greens had so much salt I believed it raised my blood pressure, the Mac and cheese looked and tasted like it was a day old .
