This is the place to be if you want to lose your voice from trying to talk over the noise. Joking aside, the interior gives a sleek, modern vibe to the 2nd street bar scene. The lines are always long as a result and wait times can be 30m-1 hour. Apart from that, the seating is plentiful with standing room to complement it. The drinks here are hit or miss. I am glad they have a non-alcoholic menu since I am staying true to my New Years resolution. All in all, good gossip spot for your friend group.
I forgot to take a photo of my drink but I got the milk punch which was on happy hour and it was a little less milky than I expected but was good and strong! This place is pretty roomy with a patio in the back that I didn't get to go see. They have a small food menu and a couple food items on happy hour too. The brussel sprouts tacos were delicious and flavorful!!
One of my favorite whiskey bars. Like all other bars in down town San Jose, this place gets really packed on the weekends. I have gone earlier around 6pm and usually it isn't too bad. Food and drinks are good. I love the Whiskey wall and the fun Whiskey cocktails. I also like that they have a chart that tells you what the flavor profile of each cocktail is. Overall cool place to bring friends or people visiting who likes Whiskey.
It was Friday around 10-11pm and the line to get in was super short. It was busy but it wasn't so packed that we couldn't get around comfortably. Also, it had a New York type vibe with the brick walls and it wasn't too dark so we weren't struggling to look at menus or anything. The bartenders were quick and got to us within minutes. I'm currently not drinking any alcohol, so I ordered a Coco L'Orange, which ended up tasting like a sweeter Orange Julius. I really enjoyed it like a dessert drink since I just had dinner. I also appreciated how it didn't just taste like straight sugar syrup, which is my usual experience with spirit free cocktails. However, it was pretty tart, so I suggest just sipping on it. It helped a lot with feeling like was drinking with everyone the whole time without having to order multiple drinks. Regarding seating, we somehow found a table in the back where our party of 18 guys could hangout, and it wasn't so loud we couldn't hear each other. I barely go out anymore, but in this area I now prefer this establishment since I could sip on a good non-alcoholic drink without worrying about someone accidentally running into me and spilling on me. There were also plenty glass water bottles going around to keep everyone hydrated.
Always a fun bar, but definitely a must during this time of year. The decorations are just so incredible, the attention to detail is amazing, everything is wrapped tinseled and Santa-fied. The drinks are in festive cups and the food is just soooo good!!! Cheeseburger & truffle fries were delish. My favorite drink was the Yippe Kay Yay MF (in Santa cup) , my second favorite was the Rudolf coffee drink (Dino cup). It gets super busy and there will be a line the later you go, but definitely worth it. Drinks are $17.50 each.
Super festive and lots of decorations for the holidays! This bar is partners with the holiday pop ups. If you bring a bag, security does check your bag when you leave. Saturday around 6:30pm, not too busy, but waited a couple minutes to get a table. Unfortunately No happy hour during the Christmas holiday. The burger with truffle fries ($26) was pretty delicious. Truffle fries is must, literally order a separate order ($12), everyone in the group kept eating it. Going to the drinks, holiday them drinks are $18 each, comes in a cute cup and yes the cups are available for purchase. Tried the Rudolph replacement which was okay, it has vodka, coffee liqueur, chai, almond milk, orange, and a few other things. Fun environment, they even have Mrs. Claus telling jokes, an definitely will check out this place once holiday season is over too.
Another great bar in the San Jose cocktail scene. They have great drinks on the regular some of which have an Asian influence. The bar menu here is also great and the koji fried chicken is a must try. They are super addicting and go great with the drinks. A must try at Paper Plane is the Ring of Fire, which is like a whiskey sour with extra depth of complexity. It's also awesome to visit during Christmas time when they have the Miracle pop up. They go hard with the Christmas decorations and the drinks are pretty good! Most of pop-up drinks are on the sweeter side though. Love this bar, must try if you're in the area.
$19.99 prime rib dinner every Tuesday?!!! Had to come try and see if it was legit and if it even taste good. But keep in mind you have to order a cocktail to get the 20 bucks prime rib. Total with the cocktail came out to be around 40-45 bucks a person each after taxes and tip. Yall it was good afffff ! I also did not eat a lot during the day while I was at work so I could savor this even more. It was busy on a Tuesday night and after you order you have to find a table. Luckily for us we found one within 5 minutes. Also they don't ask you how you like your prime rib cooked and I also forget to tell them. The prime rib was so good and the meat was tender and a good chewy. There was some fat pieces that I had to spit out. The mash potatoes with that corn cheese thing were both so good. I have no idea what the sauces are but they added a nice touch. I would have gave this 5 stars if there were some greens like asparagus. My cocktail was also good but I forgot the name. I would totally come here again for the prime rib.
Overall: B // 4 stars Lively bar with lots of seating and ambience for happy hour or after work discussion, which I could definitely see the appeal, but is not of personal taste. Nevertheless, I like the convenience as it is quite easy to get in whether standing room (spaciously) or finding a table or a booth. This bar offers lots to eat and drink, and I particularly like their axes of flavors from refreshing and comforting to adventurous and spirit-forward to help pick a drink of your liking. Their menu is also well designed, elevating familiar drinks with subtle flavor additions or changes to help nudge a difference without overplaying outside their audience. I had the skytree highball, which nodded to the Japanese flavors of yuzu, whilest keeping it classic. Nice environment, with low light and spacious floor. Large, medium and small tables as well as the bar sitting. Plenty of different options for different group sizes. Staff was courteous and helpful. Big props for their drink chart in the menu! Wonderful help in deciding what to have. Overall, nice spot for some drinks! Make sure to get in before 7pm, so you can partake on some of the special happy hour deals. PS: It's a bar, ID is REQUIRED.
Paper Plane!! the fairly popular bar in DTSJ! I went during christmas week and my gosh was the interior beautiful! It was so beautifully decorated, a lot of thought had been put in. The drinks were all beautifully crafted too! It was super super busy. The demographic was mostly older folks (not young adults). Also a bit noisy inside. Drinks were served extremelyyyy slow and our bartender also messed up our order; also they were a bit rude. I won't criticize the too harshly though, the holiday mayhem gets to everyone. Would def come back!
3% credit card fee. I stopped by for Negroni Week 2025: - 3.5/5: Sunrise Negroni. Light and refreshing. Very floral, delicate and aromatic with the Singani 63. - 3.0: Shogroni: It has a heavy sweet cinnamon note, and not much alcoholic backbone. The flavor is too generic sweet/bitter. On the regular cocktail menu: - 3.0/5: The Summer 93' is an OK boozy ice cream soda: Gin, Madeira, Cantaloupe, Lemon, Saline, Soda, Vanilla Ice Cream. For food: - 4.4: brussels sprouts tacos are good. - 3.0: Shrimp tacos are OK. But the hot sauce is a bit too hot, and masks the flavors of cocktails.
I came here for their prime rib dinner on tuesdays, and it did not disappoint. I thought this was just a bar, but honestly such a good place to eat as well. the service was amazing and everyone was friendly. it gets pretty packed but over the vibe is nice. the food was great, nothing bad to say cause I had such a great experience. will be back for more!

This place is best known for their delicious cocktails, for which they have a changing menu. Bad news is, no alterations to drinks, and no drinks offered at the venue besides what's listed on the Christmas menu (that's what the bartender told us this past weekend)... unfortunately, that makes their offerings quite limited, even with how creative a few of the drink specials are. We got the Yippee Ki Yay Mother F****r! and Elfing Around #2 and thought they were pretty good. But I guess the appeal of this place at this time is more so the lovely festive environment, not only in the bar area, but seemingly every inch of space in the venue, on the walls and ceilings, including inside the mini room attached to the main dining area... the theme being Miracle on 1st Street. The waits to order food/drinks at the bar were a bit long (the three bartenders were not nearly enough for the crowd on this Sunday evening in December). And there's a good amount of seating inside, including booths, bar height tables, and a community table, but not much available, even in the early evening on a Sunday. We eventually got a table, and enjoyed dinner here (the chicken lettuce wrap, truffle fries, and mushroom empanadas were all quite delicious). But the fries and mix for the chicken lettuce wrap were a bit salty, and we asked for utensils from the server when our food was brought to our table (since they didn't provide these at the bar), and by the end of our meals, we never got any utensils... so the service here is definitely lacking. In short... pricey drinks (along with pricey souvenir glasses as an option), food with good flavor but on the salty side, beautiful decor and twinkling lights during the holiday season. 5 stars for the Christmas spirit in December, 3 stars for the value and overall experience. read more

Sure, Paper Plane is cute, relatively large, and supposedly has the best cocktails in south bay. But personally, I've never had something I loved here. Whether from their specialty drinks, holiday drink, happy hour, or food menu, absolutely nothing has been a 5/5 in the many times I've visited. Drinks are always a tad off. Too sweet, too sour, mismatched mixers, etc. Food is pretty lackluster. Gastropub dishes that might be plated in a cute way, but very mediocre. It gets so crowded inside and security guards are constantly telling you where you can and can't stand, so it somewhat ruins the vibe. For this reason, I barely come here anymore. It's super cute to check out during the holidays - but only if the lines short and it's not your main stop. read more

Great drinks and ambiance but wow is the line LONG. I visited Thursday night for the Christmas pop up, Miracle on 1st Street. I was lucky enough to only wait about 30-40 minutes, but by the time I left around 10pm, the line had doubled. It was definitely a struggle to find chairs, so good luck to you! The staff and service was good. They also have security roaming around to keep an eye out. The decorations are gorgeous and I could definitely feel the holiday spirit seeping in! My favorite drink was the Koala Cooler, which has apple, mint and soda in it. It's a carbonated drink and was quite sweet, which I enjoyed. You also get to keep the koala! I was not expecting for the fries to hit but the fries were GOOD. Love to see it! I recommend coming earlier to avoid lines. If you visit during Christmas week, you'll probably be in for a long wait. read more

I had been to paper plane before during the Christmas pop up "Miracle" which is always fun and great vibes, but this was my first time coming in outside of the holidays. I will say it is always busy, so trying to get someone's attention is a bit tricky! I'd been hearing a lot about this prime rib deal they have on Tuesdays. With the purchase of a regular priced cocktail you get a prime rib dinner with side of mashed potato, and greens for $20. I was a bit skeptical at first thinking "prime rib at a bar?" But boy was I surprised! The portion size was great but the food itself? AMAZING!!! I also went during happy hour and got some oysters (very fresh), and truffle crab deviled eggs (great flavor). I'll definitely be coming back and introducing other folks. read more
4.5/5! We arrived at 5:30, and man was there a line! We waited probably 45minutes to get in and then you will need to find your own table!! After you find a seat, you'll need to order both food and drinks at the bar. To get the happy hour prime rib, you'll need to purchase a drink of $12 or more. Good news is, service was so fast. The bartender put my order in and started making our four drinks. When he handed me the drinks, all of our food was already at our table... this happened literally within 5 minutes, CRAZY! Truffle fries: loved the dusted cheese on it, generous portions. Medium sized fries, nice and crispy Oysters: friend said they were smaller than most but super yummy, great value #5 coconut coco suave: smoking coconut flavor, pretty strong! Refreshing with a kick Prime ribs: the cuts aren't very thick, so the entire meal is very manageable in one sitting. We loved the mashed potatoes with the creamed spinach. The au jus complimented the meat nicely, it was t dry at all! The only confusion was the white sauce, which you'd assume is horseradish.. all four of us at the table couldn't taste the kick of horseradish so we are fairly certain it is sour cream haha. This remains my favorite bar in downtown SJ but ESPECIALLY during the annual Miracle Pop up! The decorations are gorgeous and the special drinks (the Christmas Cricket in particular) are outstanding. Love this spot during the holidays to meet up with friends. Miracle on 1st is a pop up that takes over the day before Thanksgiving. I was able to make it on opening night and meet Santa. Overall a wonderful experience and a very cheerful vibe, with everyone dressed up and all the decor. Favorite specialty drinks include the spiced butter rum, and koala cooler. I was not a fan of the Krampus one. The mezcal in it took over the drink and was super smoky. One downside is the limited food menu. We planned to spend a few hours here and enjoy dinner but they only offer light snacks and burgers, which is different than previous years. Another downside is the security. Understandable that they want to ensure nobody is over drinking or causing trouble but they are quite hostile and very intimidating, constantly floating around tables and staring you down. read more

This cocktail bar has been a favorite since I live in the area. The bar gives off a nice vibrant and relaxed atmosphere for drinks and socializing! When you walk in, you'll see an impressive collection of liqueurs and spirits displayed on the wall. They probably have every bottle that you could possibly think of. The service here is really quick on weekdays and a bit busy on weekends. I came in on a Sunday night around 9:30 pm with some friends and it was pretty empty. Luckily we were able to grab a seating in the back room. The back room is super spacious and it can easily fit 12-15 people if you have a large party with you! I got the Little Lad and my partner picked out the Gleaming The Cubes. Our drinks were really pretty and aesthetically pleasing to look at. My drink was said to be fairly sweet but it was actually stronger than I expected. My partner had the sweeter drink so I traded with him hehe I'm not much of a drinker but if and when I do drink, I like my drinks on the sweeter side! I would recommend these two if you like sweet cocktails :P read more
Big fan of this bar, but more so for the surprise element when trying their extensive drink menu. It is very loud and overstimulating inside, but I catch myself regularly coming back here every single time I'm visiting downtown San Jose. I came by this past week to try the new holiday menu, and I love how they decorated it for Christmas! The drinks were yummy but I more so come here just for the drinks and not the vibe. read more

I don't go to dtsj often but paper plane is a bar I'd recommend to hang with friends! It is quite loud so if you're looking for a more intimate setting then this wouldn't be for you. Recently we went at opening (5pm) and were able to get seating! Definitely got more crowded later in the night. read more

I'm very impressed in the quality of their cocktails. I got the Mötley Lüe and it was delicious. You can taste the different flavors in the drink and they all mix well together. My group ordered other drinks and they enjoyed it as well. The ambiance is very chill and allows you to be socialable with your group. This place can get busy and there will be a line outside, especially during the Winter holidays. It is hard to get a table if you come late. read more

Stoped by on a Tuesday night for the prime rib deal for $19.99. We usually come here for the drinks but the food was surprisingly pretty delicious. When you enter, you pay for your order at the bar and afterward, go find a table with your number. We totally forgot to grab our drinks and went straight to seat. We decided to sit outside in the back and it was pretty nice ambiance because they have string lights outside. The server came with our food fairly quick. The portion of the prime rib is pretty big! Would give negative stars if I could. @ Paper Planes Management: I went and looked at every single one of your recent bad reviews and they all corroborate the power trip your "bouncers" are going on by targeting innocent people. NOT A GOOD LOOK! The "bouncers" pushed my friend onto the ground because they were trying to defend me after the bouncers took one of my personal items?? I told them it wasn't from the bar (I brought a plant in as a new years prop)-- I tried reasonably explaining to them that it wasn't theirs (the bar doesn't even have plants, so it literally couldn't be "theirs") and the bouncers got super defensive and refused to give me back the property that they stole from me. Then they started shoving APOLOGETIC GIRLS for no reason. They shoved me (I am literally just a short girl ) and grabbed my phone and threw it onto the ground. Their margarita was so amazing I could drink five! My friend and I ordered oysters and we totally lost track of how many we ate because they were just that good. We wanted more and more! We are definitely coming back. The service was super friendly and welcoming, especially for Deaf customers. I loved all the creative art around the restaurant. So festive right now. Very nice ambience and great people. You order everything at the bar and grab a number then someone will bring your food to your table. Holiday drinks tasted great unfortunately I did not take any pictures of drinks and foods we ordered since I was busy chitchatting with my friends but deviled egg, fries, wings and guacamole were so good. Btw their guacamole was served with chicharrones!! Yum On street parking can be challenging but don't you worry... there is a paid garage parking opposite to this place which I believe you can validate your ticket.... A fun cocktail bar in DTSJ -- mostly just reviewing the holiday pop-up but have been here other times too and it's always a nice time! The bartenders are efficient and they have a ton of spirits to choose from. I wish there were more spaces to sit, because staff are constantly clearing the corridors. There are tables along the back and booths on the side! The holiday pop up was fun -- they featured tons of new decor and themed drinks. The drinks were... ambitious. They had a lot going on but we liked some more than others. I'd be curious about coming back for their regular cocktails, which is what they're best known for. It's a staple, so I'll probably be back soon! read more

The bartenders and service here is absolutely the worst. I'll give it to them for the Christmas decor but other than that, the experience was terrible. I went bar hopping with a large group of friends and we first hit up Paper Plane to avoid the long lines later on in the night and for their decor. Upon entering, you have security guards ushering you to move out of the way and not to block the walkway. This is understandable, but they kept telling my group to move when we were moving and second of all, it was so crowded inside we couldn't move. If you stand still for even a moment, they would start yelling at you and pushing you to move out of the way. The bartender was also really rude and ignored my group. This other guy came along (assumed it was his friend as they gave each other a fist bump) and he proceeded to take his order when my group and others were waiting in line to place our order. Drinks were also overpriced and not that good. I got the Cricket christmas themed drink and every sip was a different taste and not in a good way. read more

Super cute spot and they really go all out for Xmas. Line is long but it moves fairly well and it doesn't get crowded inside so I appreciate the effort for crowd control. We were able to get a table too. Bad service was slow only bc it's a few days before Xmas and the drinks were Xmas themed! The staff were festive and really put a lot of effort in making the cocktails. We really enjoyed them! I look forward to coming back again w my friends! read more
It's one of the locations for Miracle pop up bar. The line outside was long when I got here at 6 pm on Thursday night. So plan ahead if you want to come. I was only here for the cocktail. The Snowball old fashioned has the festive snowball look but the cocktail itself was a bit bland for me. The decorations are festive. They had good crowd control inside and outside. read more

Came here with a friend for the Xmas holiday spirit drinks. Wasn't to impress with their drinks. The Holiday drinks were "meh" not memorable, and pretty pricey for them not being too good. i would definately had to reconsider coming here. read more

Killer cocktails and snacks! Came through for date night drinks & dinner and left full and tipsy! Their happy hour offers discounted punches (on tap) and nibbles. We ordered their bao and a side of fries to start before finishing with their chicken sandwich. I would happily repeat any of the above, as everything was tasty! We started with their happy hour lunch before ending with their signature house cocktails. Their punch was not my thing, but their cocktails were excellent. Their bartenders definitely take time to make each cocktail with love and attention. Would definitely recommend! read more
Prime rib Tuesdays for $19.99 with drink?! Heck yes! I think the meat was worth the price. It comes with mash potatoes and corn. Their horseradish sauce was pretty good with it. I recommend ordering the fries as it was super crispy. The oysters were pretty good. Apparently they have happy hour, but we missed it. Paper planes have great drinks, so you can't go wrong there. I enjoy coming here at night with friends because of the vibe. Service is great as they are attentive. read more
I came here in December when Paper Plane turns into Miracle on 1st Street which is a fun Christmas pop-up bar! They decorate the entire bar in holiday decor and cocktails are served in Christmas mugs! We came as part of a Christmas bar hop night, prior to coming here we went to 55 South (Sippin' Santa) across the street which was also fun. Here I ordered the Marshmallows & Unicorn cocktail which was served in a unicorn mug! I had such a blast! Super fun! Highly recommend it to get in the holiday spirit! I'll for sure be returning when Miracle on 1st Street comes back! read more
I'm surprised to say that I've frequented this bar! I've loved going to paper plan during their weekday happy hours. There's still large groups of people so it's lively, but not crowded! I love their 5-7pm happy hour (longer/later than most) and their cocktail choices on their current happy hour are great. My favorite is by far the gleaming cubes! There's little to no alcoholic kick, but it's a great balance of sweetness and acidity. I could drink these for hours. Their menu also has draft cocktails which is so unique compared to other bars in downtown SJ. My favorite punch is the dont tell mom. They have other drinks like an old fashioned on their happy hour menu too. Plus, they have food! Truffle fries and chicken wings are a must! Crispy and delicious with good seasoning. Paper plane has a surprising amount to seating, perfect for big groups or small get-togethers. Plus, planning ahead means you could reserve tables for your party! Once your ID is checked at the door, see the bartenders to order your drinks and food. They'll give you a number if you ordered food so their kitchen staff can bring it to your table. If you're ordering lots of drinks, bring a friend to help you carry them from the bar! They also have self service water at the back end of the bar. Don't forget to grab a few bottles and cups to share with your table. Overall, I love coming here and it's one of my top bar suggestions in downtown SJ! They have such unique and good cocktails. Plus I love their graph points to give an idea of what the cocktails taste like on their menu. Definitely coming back! read more

They have a great selection of juices, syrups, bittters, etc here and the bartenders all seem really good! I'm sure they'd be happy to make you a mocktail if you ask and let them know what kind of flavors you like.
I used to come here prior to COVID, do you still serve crack wings? I don't see it in the menu.

Really doubt it. Santa Clara has been slower than pretty much all the other Bay Area counties in reopening, and bars are low on the priority list as pretty inessential Phase 3 businesses.

Hello Reggie, unfortunately, the last day of our Miracle Pop-up was December 29th. We will be back with it next season! In the meantime, feel free to stop in and enjoy our brand new drink menu!

How late is the kitchen open?
