Now this spot was next level. Came here for my brothers birthday at his request and upon arriving, well, it was a brilliant scene. The Japanese decor was amazing and so detailed. Loved the ambiance and was definitely feeling the vibe. I can see why everyone kept telling me to check this place out. You can either use street parking or there is a garage across the street where you can park as well. It's a bit hidden down an alley but easy to locate by the impressive staircase at the entrance of the restaurant. We met the hostess and we had a reservation so we sat down right away. We sat on the inside of the restaurant but they also do have a large patio section on the outside for those who prefer that. An absolute highlight are the cherry blossoms right in the middle across from the sushi bar. Definitely a site to see and only makes me want to go to Japan even more now! We were a group of 6 so we had a little bit of everything because I eat with my eyes every single time and over order right in cue lol. The favorites were: - Crispy Truffle fried rice with Wagyu steak - Hot truffle Nigiri - Maguro Foie - Smoked rocoto ceviche All the plates are definitely shareable and this is a spot to come check out with friends and enjoy a couple of cocktails while enjoying some good grub. My one issue was the service. Our server wasn't very attentive and kept coming back to the table to either ask us to repeat our order or tell us that he didn't know something was out in the kitchen. This shouldn't be happening at a restaurant like this. Servers get weeded and I get that but the service lacked in every aspect. The food and ambiance are what made my experience memorable. If they can nail this particular part next time I come around, then it would be a perfect experience. This is a complicated review to write. The food was fantastic and the restaurant is very beautiful. The service, however, left a lot to be desired. The hostess was very nonchalant and had zero sense of urgency. We were seated for 15+ mins before we were even greeted or given water. Once we got a server we felt like we had to order in a rush because who knows when she'd be back. Miami Spice 2021: delicious food. Slow service. Walking into this restaurant I was pleasantly surprised with the beautiful japanese decor (particularly the mini cherry blossom looking trees inside ). I dont think you can go wrong with any of the spice menu options, although some are betfer value than others when compared to the regular menu. Our favorate dishes were probably the salmon cripsy rice (with truffle oil!) and the caramel lava cake! The miami spice dessert had just the lava cake as the only option but they brought out chocolate cake for some of our party and caramel cake for the others- maybe you can request one or the other! The service was very slow. The drinks were tasty with the menu offering several martinis (prepared deliciiusly) and another section of craft cocktails. But it's a super nice environment, not like crazy club vibes like other restaurants in the city. There is great music at medium noise level, so you can have fun and still have conversations. Everything on the menu is DELICIOUS and fresh. The drinks are great and they also have imported beers like Asahi and Sapporo, perfect to pair with sushi. The ambiance here was so pretty, the entrance was really unique and a little hidden. The service here was not the best, our server had only approached our table a couple of times and didn't really explain the kind of dishes we ordered. The restaurant also has a bar area just in case that has a bit of availability. I have had paper fish sushi on my radar since they opened in Brickell. From the moment you walk in the experience starts. It felt like the purpose of all the servers was to give you a great experience, from the host to the servers. In addition, the ambiance is quite trendy, with music at a decent level to enjoy a conversation but also feeling like "going out". And it is important to highlight this, Paper Fish Sushi excels at providing a nice atmosphere for a group of friends to have some drinks. But now let us talk about the food. We tried a variety of different dishes, some of them were quite basic, while others provided an "elevated" experience of Japanese-inspired food. The issue here is that the food is not the greatest you will have but you will pay a high price for it; in other words, you are paying for the environment. All in all, if you are looking for a trendy place with good food to enjoy time and drinks with friends Paper Fish Sushi (with a reservation) is an excellent choice. If your priority is the food quality, it is a good alternative but there are better ones. Paper fish is one of those hidden spots in downtown Brickell that can be easily overlooked as it is a bit out-of-the-way from the city center compared to the many restaurants nearby. They have a fantastic happy hour that I totally indulge in every time I am near that area. My favorites are the lychee martini and the dragon mule and they also have Gyoza and sushi on the menu as well. All the food was outstanding, my favorite being the crispy rice. Regarding the service, with any new restaurant it takes a while to get the hang of things but our server was downright terrible. She gave us the wrong beer and forgot about numerous things we ordered, causing us to wait forever to receive our food. We basically had to ask the manager for anything and everything. We had to cancel some of the ordered items due to her forgetting to order them and taking too long waiting on them. The food was amazing though in my opinion. If you want to order the best things on the menu, here is what to order: -bao buns, best I have had in Miami! The crispy onions, melt in your mouth wagyu, the delicious sauce and perfect buns. I recently had dinner here, and while most of the food was decent, I was really disappointed with the Crispy Truffle Fried Rice and their service in general. The rice was far from crispy--just mushy and not at all what I was expecting. When I mentioned this to the waiter, she was pretty dismissive and just said, 'That's the way it's made,' which honestly came off as rude. It's frustrating when a dish doesn't live up to its name, and even more so when the feedback is brushed off like that. I really hope they either fix the recipe or rename the dish so it doesn't mislead customers and improve their service. Also the fact that they have a mandatory service fee is very misleading. They are not incentivized to deliver good service at all because the waiter is going to get their fee either way. Every dish was incredible, cocktails were so unique and refreshing. They had a live DJ playing, the ambiance was so nice. Tonight was a far cry from that experience and I couldn't be more disappointed. It feels like they cheaped out on everything. It's freezing cold inside to start and the tables too crowded. DINING DISASTER AND THE WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE IN MIAMI (FROM A LOCAL & FORMER, REGULAR CUSTOMER). Can you imagine eating at a restaurant, ordering a bunch of dishes, NOT GETTING ANY OF YOUR ORDERED FOOD, and the RESTAURANT REFUSES TO GIVE YOU A REFUND OR HAVE A MANAGER CALL YOU BACK? That's exactly the situation we're in!! (Even crazier when we're locals and regulars that eat there or order pick up once a week). Friday evening we placed a sushi order for pickup, but when we got home after driving 1/2 hour, and we opened the bag, they had given us someone else's order. (A ton of items we couldn't eat, so it was a waste!). We called right away to let the restaurant know, and they refused to transfer us to a manager but assured us the manager would call us right back. After waiting hungrily, for someone to call us back, we eventually just gave up. We couldn't even get our order fixed that same night!! WORST, it's been THREE NIGHTS SINCE THE BOTCHED DINNER MIXUP ON THEIR END, and NO ONE HAS GIVEN US A REFUND OR EVEN BOTHERED TO CALL US BACK!!! The receptionist Andy has received each of our 8 calls, has assured us that he had messaged OLEH the manger, (as well as Dafne and Ana María the other managers), but none of the THREE MANAGERS HAS HAD THE DECENCY TO CALL US back. The restaurant makes a mistake & it's no fault of our own. We clearly gave our name & order number 58 & the restaurant messed up & gave us order 85 with some guy's Uber Eats order. We have to repeatedly call 8 times over the last 3 days to get a hold of someone?!!!!! And SILENCE from 3 managers! What kind of a restaurant is this?!? The receptionist Andy has now assured us that he'll be reaching out to their corporate office. I'm not feeling very hopeful since three managers have been getting voice calls & emails from the receptionist about our issue and they've instructed the receptionist that they're "too busy" to call us.
