Delicious food. Great service. Fun little spot in Brickell for some drinks and small plates. For appetizers we ordered the Salmon Crispy Rice and the Wagyu Beef Bao Buns. Both absolutely delicious but the Salmon Crispy Rice was my favorite - perfect balance of crunchiness from the crispy rice and the softness from the light salmon on top. We then ordered 2 different types of sushis to share - the Ebi Katsu Roll (Delicious !) and the Paper Tuna Roll. You must must must try the Ebi Katsu roll!! Beware when ordering from here on ubereats! I ordered a roll, 2 different nigiri and a combo (which is $63, the order total was $100) making up most of the order. I did a pick up order and live pretty far so when i get home to eat after a long day when I check whats inside the combo is missing! I contacted ubereats but they were no help stating they couldn't do anything since it was a pick up order so I go ahead and contact paperfish hoping they would offer me a refund or at least be able to remake the combo for me but they completely disregard me and offered no help at all. I had been wanting to check this spot out since they first opened, but never had the chance till up until recently. Waiting for the reservations to die down was definitely a good idea and totally worth it. I'm a sushi lover so I can honestly say this sushi was pretty fresh and authentic. The service was amazing, the food came out in a timely manner, drinks on point, overall a great experience. I'd have to say the crispy salmon rice with truffle was my favorite dish of the night; the combination of flavors was unexpectedly delicious. I wish I'd gotten some pictures of how everything went, but I couldn't wait to eat so I had to dive in. Our waitress was attentive and efficient and the food all came out relatively fast. Every single roll/dish was delicious. My ultimate favorite was the yellowtail nigiri. OH MY! The drinks were tasty even though on the first round they didn't add alcohol to mine. Nonetheless, it's a place I would come back to. First of all, this place is really hard to find if you don't know where it is. It is hiding behind Besecco's. The front of the building looks like a unfinished parking lot. We thought it was out of business, almost changed our mind and wanted to try somewhere else, then we saw the orange pillars hiding behind the trees and a bunch of parked cars. The maki rolls were fresh and tasty. The food was served quickly too. However, there was no service at all. No server checked on us during our meal. And we had to wait for 10+ minutes to get our check after asking for check twice. We asked for printed receipt. And the receipt was not printed until we asked for it. The server was like 'oh, Did you ask to print receipt?'.... Not sure whether there was a language barrier or lack of attention. Not to mention that we came for early dinner. There were only 2-3 tables of guest with 5+ servers. They all gathered at reception desk, chatting with each other...... In addition, we sat at outdoor seating. It was super noisy with loud music. We were not sure the loud music came from paper fish or next door. All in all, I think this place is way over-rated given the poor service and noisy surroundings. A month ago, I visited Paperfish for the very first time. We decided to have a date night with my boyfriend and booked a table at this place I've been hearing so much about since the moment they opened. I wasn't very convinced about this restaurant since I was afraid it might fall into the common Miami restaurant trap, becoming popular online but, in the end, not being that good. We decided to finally give it a try and went for an early dinner. We made a reservation at 6.15 pm, inside, and headed over there. The open table description said they only had a 5-minute grace which surprised me, so I was running late and called the restaurant to let them know. To my satisfaction, they informed me they had a 15-minute grace time which that's more common than the 5-minute I thought at the beginning. We parked on South Miami Avenue and 14th, and it was a little confusing to understand where the restaurant was. We asked the valet parking from a bar right at that corner, and they guided us to practice the back of the bar to find the famous steps with the orange bars. The hostess greeted us and told us to wait a minute while she checked for our table. A few minutes later, she walked us to our table, and our server came right away. Her name was Jocelyn, and she was super nice! She let us know that Happy Hour was still going until 7 pm, which was a nice surprise since we thought it was only at the bar. It was amazing that besides drinks, small bites were also included! We started with the Margarita and the mojito. The margarita was super good, but the mojito tasted like lemonade with no alcohol at all. We also got the edamame and the wagyu gyozas. The edamame was really good and fresh, and the gyozas were ok, although I found some small bones when normally gyozas have grounded meat. For the main entrees, we got the Veggie Roll, Acevichado Roll, and the crispy truffle fried rice. Both rolls were delicious and on point! And the fried rice was also so good and with a lot of flavor. For my last cocktail, I got the Flower Blossom, and it was refreshing with a little touch of sweetness. Went here for a Friday dinner with a group of friends. They are very accommodating for a party of 9 ppl with online reservation, considering other places wouldn't even allow online reservations for more than 5-6ppl and it was still busy dinner service that night. Appetizer orders were served within 8-10 minutes of putting in our orders. The crispy rice was the star dish of the night. We had both tuna and salmon, and personally I liked the salmon better because of the truffle oil but others preferred the tuna more. The fish quality was the typical ones that you can find at other regular sushi restaurants, so really it's just he truffle oil enhancing the dish. We also had a salmon/avocados and crab/avocados handrolls. It's literally just seaweed wrapper with sushi rice, and the fish and avocado combo. It wasn't anything special, felt like it could put a brush of yuzu sauce or something to enhance the flavors instead of counting on the table side soy sauces. They also use fake wasabi paste instead of grated wasabi rhizomes, understandably, it's less expensive than the grated one, but disappointed to see for an upscale sushi restaurant. For the entrees, some of us ordered sushi rolls and some ordered Thai rice kamameshi with different proteins. All of the ones who ordered rice entree said they were overly salted. Even the P.F. Bao with Wagyu appetizer tasted too salty. The sushi rolls looked very nice when served, but drenched with sauces on the bottom so it overpowered all the flavors of the roll. The Chef was heavy on the hand with the seasoning and sauces that night. Everyone agreed that the drinks were pretty good. Not too much sugar/syrup and not too much alcohol, just the right amount. The place has a very stylish Japanese decor. Overall it had a very nice ambiance and great music. Great for a quick bite to eat and drinks, but the entrees left more to be desired at that price point. Brickell parking is quite expensive too. There are limited street parking spaces and could cost up to $7 for 2 hours or private parking garages that cost $15 but you can park until 3am. So if you factor all the cost in, and rather pay for better quality fish, consider somewhere else. read more

Came in with some friends on a Saturday night and we sat inside. The have parking across the street for $20 with a attendant at the entrance just to collect the money. You park the car yourself but we were lucky enough to find street parking. We were seated right away and our hostess came over. The decor is really cool inside. In the center of the restaurant they have cherry blossom trees and cool wallpaper all through. If you want a place with a Miami vibe this is it. To drink I started with the dragonfruit mule. Basically a Moscow mule with dragonfruit. It was good and strong. We also ordered the edamame to start. The edamame was good but there's not much you can do with them. For the main course I ordered sushi of course. The tropical yasai roll without cucumber. I'm not a fan of cucumber at all. The roll was not bad and had a good mix of flavor but I would definitely recommend the second roll I ordered. Moving on to the second round or drinks I changed to the Floridita Daiquiri and it was really good. Strong just like the first one and I'm a big Flor de Cana fan! Happy hour review :) 5-7 DAILY Solid 5 stars! Our server was incredible, she stayed on top of the table and paced out our order well. I didn't get the correct spelling but her name was pronounced Hisel like Giselle but with an "H" sound. 10/10 great job! Standout dishes: tiradito apasionado and gyozas. The sushi rolls had more sesame seeds than usual rolls but I really liked it. Not sure if it was purposeful or not haha regardless, super yummy! Their spicy edamame isn't spicy but it was served perfectly steamed, I would recommend it to start or mixed in with your cold dishes. Cocktails were impressive. They have one of the best lychee martinis I've had. Not too sweet and syrup-y, and even on happy hour you can feel a bite to it. In town for the night before our cruise, walked from our hotel room ten minutes to get here. The directions were tricky to get to, had to call the restaurant to find out it's behind the building. Parking around it is $15. It looks really nice on the outside. We walked in 7:50 pm on a Friday night, it was not even half way full. So much open seating. After having a positive previous experience with PaperFish's Happy Hour and reading about their Miami Spice options, we decided to give their Miami Spice dinner a try. We went with friends as a party of 5 and booked for a Saturday night dinner. When we got there around 9 PM, the restaurant was absolutely slammed. We luckily did not have to wait long at all for a table and were sat in the back where bench seating was available. Once we were all sat, we took a look at the menus and began to order. I decided to try their signature Wasabi Martini while two of our friends ordered beers. For appetizers, my girlfriend and I both had the Crispy Rice, which was absolutely delicious and well-portioned. One of our other friends also had the Crispy Rice, while the two others enjoyed the Tiradito Apassionado and Nikki Tataki. Per them both dishes were excellent and fresh! The friend who ordered the Tiradito Apassionado enjoyed the hint of passion fruit that came with the dish, and the one who had the Nikki Tataki commended the yellow sauce that was on the Tuna. So at this point you're thinking: why the 3/5 stars? If Yelp had a half rating system, this would be 3.5 stars out of 5 instead of 3. Alas, there is no half rating system (fix this Yelp). The food had been excellent and was on point throughout the night, but it was at this point in time where the service started to taper off. I don't know if it was the fault of the restaurant being so slammed with multiple parties, but some stuff happened that you just don't expect at this price point. First, our waitress brings me my Wasabi Martini and mentions she was going to come back with something that would make it smile (apparently the drink is supposed to have some smokey presentation). I had to ask her to repeat herself because the music was very loud to the point where she had to lean over to hear us. "Cool" I thought. But throughout the night, she never came back with what she said she was getting for my drink. I brought it up later during the meal and said didn't you say the drink was supposed to come with something? She nodded but I don't think she heard me over the music. Disappointing but oh well. I proceeded to drink the Martini and it was excellent nonetheless! Not worth taking it back at all, but I was a little disappointed considering our waitress brought up what was missing and didn't follow through. Had it not been brought up, I wouldn't have been none the wiser. Second, our entrées took a long time to come out and came out separately. Again, this might've been due to how busy the restaurant was during that day, and if we were given a heads up that our food might be delayed as a result then that would've been much better. Three of us ordered the Black Cod entrée, my girlfriend ordered the Bourbon Chicken entrée, and our other friend had the Paper Roll. We noticed per the Spice menu that our Chicken and Fish entrées were supposed to come with rice. Our waitress did bring my girlfriend her rice after about a half hour wait, but told us our Black Cod dish did not come with rice. When we showed her that it was a part of the entrée on the menu, she apologized and got us our rice. It was fresh and steaming hot. As far as the food goes, everything was delicious. We thought the portions of the Bourbon Chicken and Sea Bass with rice were good. Especially the Bourbon Chicken! We finished the evening with the Lava Cake dessert, which was the perfect way to end our dinner and the shakiness we experienced in-between. It was one of the better lava cakes I've had around here. The food at Paper Fish is top notch! But, a new restaurant at it's price point really should work on making their service consistent. I was hoping to have a good experience with my friends who were visiting the neighborhood, but it seems like we experienced some of the same hiccups that people had below with their servers not fully understanding the menu (granted it was remedied when we brought it up to her). This experience was a far cry from what my girlfriend and I experienced for their happy hour back in June. I'm not sure if this inconsistency was because the restaurant was packed on a Saturday night, causing everyone from the kitchen to the bar and our waitress to be under stress, or, if it was because we ordered from the Miami Spice menu and not the regular menu? Regardless, it was disappointing, considering the higher price point and good quality of the food. It made my friends apprehensive about future Miami Spices and my girlfriend apprehensive about returning. I'm trying to convince everyone that this was a one time mishap and PaperFish is definitely worth a return visit! The food is definitely worth it but there is certainly room for improvement. The Martini issue was never remedied and the rice for our entrées would've never came if we hadn't said anything. Here's to hoping for a better all-around experience in the future. DO NOT GO TO PAPERFISH! STAY AWAY! I want it all to myself. I had heard about Paperfish for a while and was looking forward to one day trying it. I actually had planned Nobu on this night, but ended up at Paperfish instead. It is not easy to find,. I literally drove right past it since the entrance is in the alley, not on the main street. It is located right behind Barsecco. The entrance is pretty cool and the inside is well decorated. What this place isn't is quiet/romantic. It is noisy and you are cramped in with lots of other Paperfish fans. It is also not overpriced. Now to the food. I really wanted to go to Nobu that night because they have about a dozen items that you simply can't get anywhere else. The last time I went to Nobu, there were 4 items that I could have eaten every day of my life, but there were a few that I would never order again and one that was horrible (in my opinion). So how did Paperfish stack up. Every item we ate was delicious. There was not one thing I wouldn't order again and there were 6 items I could eat every day of my life. We got out of Paperfish for only $200. The same experience at Nobu would have cost $500+. The cod was just as good as Nobu's cod at half the price. I am not saying that the selection is as large and that the top top end items are equal, but if you want great sushi at a great price and like crowded loud restaurants filled with beautiful people, then Paperfish is for you. The 6 items that will be on my table the next time I go Salmon Aburi, Hotruffle, Miso Black Cod, Seabass, Crispy Truffle Fried Rice, and the Chocolate Candy Bar. She was very thorough with the menu and drink options. Traveling with children, she informed them of their popular mock tails which they both enjoyed. During our dinner stay, we were greeted by the GM, Danny Ramos. He explained the history of this location and where their other 24 other locations were. Paperfish is a new sushi restaurant in brickell. It has outdoor and indoor seating. First you pass through the torii (red painted poles) which in Japan are used to mark the boundary from the ordinary everyday and sacred. It is used here at Paperfish to that effect. Inside it is a paean to Japan, resplendent with faux pas cherry blossoms with a huge screen playing post war black and white footage of everyday Japan. It reminded me of Hanami-koji Street in Kyoto. So five stars for design. While the interior and exterior are a five and resplendent, the rest of the experience was not up to par, suggesting the growing pains of any new restaurant. Our server was excellent. She made great recommendations and was super friendly. Four and half for service. However the bar and food had issues. First our drinks were served well into our meal. I observed our waitress patiently cajoling the bar tenders to hurry; to no avail. My drink was an old fashion but with Japanese whiskey. The serving was pithy but good. The food came out ad hoc; which was fine. The stand out was the maguro foie and the Nikkei tataki. The other items were mostly forgettable. Our anticipation for the hamachi jalapeño was crushed as the dish was underwhelming. Although seeking to emulate Ichiro--the Japanese Micheline chef--the food falls on the palate like a dried cherry blossom in late April. One roll utterly fell apart when we tried to eat it. Three stars for the food and drinks. Japan in the 1950s was finding its footing: the US occupation ended in 1952 and the Korean War unleashed the economy and industrial production surged towards the end of the decade. Paperfish feels the same way--especially with the black and white films playing--it is still, like early 50s Japan trying to find its footing.
