Both absolutely delicious but the Salmon Crispy Rice was my favorite - perfect balance of crunchiness from the crispy rice and the softness from the light salmon on top. We then ordered 2 different types of sushis to share - the Ebi Katsu Roll (Delicious !) and the Paper Tuna Roll. You must must must try the Ebi Katsu roll!! the food was great but service is awful. i came in for a friends birthday, and it took over 15 minuets to even be greeted and by the time we got greeted took her another 20 mins to get our drink orders. i don't know her name because she never gave it to us but the server ruined our experience. she was rude, not approachable, and honestly no where to be found all she did was try to up sell us. and it was obvious she didn't care about her service cause no matter what she was getting tipped due to the service charge. never checked in to see how the food was or if we needed anything else. kept giving us dirty looks, honestly it felt super degrading. i work in the restaurant industry and never leave reviews or complain but this was truly awful and i don't recommend this place to anyone. i've never felt so unseen going out to dinner before in my entire life plus we were with a big group for a birthday. i know miami is known for this stuff but it's truly super degrading and a slap in the face going out spending all this money and getting treated like this. if your looking for a place to have decent food and no sever around ever than come to this place but if your lookin for a restaurant that has good service and good food than avoid this place at all costs. read more

I had been wanting to check this spot out since they first opened, but never had the chance till up until recently. Waiting for the reservations to die down was definitely a good idea and totally worth it. I'm a sushi lover so I can honestly say this sushi was pretty fresh and authentic. The service was amazing, the food came out in a timely manner, drinks on point, overall a great experience. I'd have to say the crispy salmon rice with truffle was my favorite dish of the night; the combination of flavors was unexpectedly delicious. I wish I'd gotten some pictures of how everything went, but I couldn't wait to eat so I had to dive in. I can't say enough great things about our experience yesterday. The place has a nice, modern, Asian-fusion decor. We arrived and within seconds were seated. First of all, this place is really hard to find if you don't know where it is. It is hiding behind Besecco's. The front of the building looks like a unfinished parking lot. We thought it was out of business, almost changed our mind and wanted to try somewhere else, then we saw the orange pillars hiding behind the trees and a bunch of parked cars. The maki rolls were fresh and tasty. The food was served quickly too. However, there was no service at all. No server checked on us during our meal. And we had to wait for 10+ minutes to get our check after asking for check twice. We asked for printed receipt. And the receipt was not printed until we asked for it. The server was like 'oh, Did you ask to print receipt?'.... Not sure whether there was a language barrier or lack of attention. Not to mention that we came for early dinner. There were only 2-3 tables of guest with 5+ servers. They all gathered at reception desk, chatting with each other...... In addition, we sat at outdoor seating. It was super noisy with loud music. We were not sure the loud music came from paper fish or next door. All in all, I think this place is way over-rated given the poor service and noisy surroundings. Really great fresh fish! The salmon sashimi was so delicious and the rice was seasoned perfectly. The spicy shrimp app was also great. We tried the wagyu bao buns which were delicious. We went during happy hour and the prices were great for the quality and quantity of food. The ambiance was nice, very chill with the beautiful cherry blossom trees in the middle. Went here for a Friday dinner with a group of friends. They are very accommodating for a party of 9 ppl with online reservation, considering other places wouldn't even allow online reservations for more than 5-6ppl and it was still busy dinner service that night. Appetizer orders were served within 8-10 minutes of putting in our orders. The crispy rice was the star dish of the night. We had both tuna and salmon, and personally I liked the salmon better because of the truffle oil but others preferred the tuna more. The fish quality was the typical ones that you can find at other regular sushi restaurants, so really it's just he truffle oil enhancing the dish. We also had a salmon/avocados and crab/avocados handrolls. It's literally just seaweed wrapper with sushi rice, and the fish and avocado combo. It wasn't anything special, felt like it could put a brush of yuzu sauce or something to enhance the flavors instead of counting on the table side soy sauces. They also use fake wasabi paste instead of grated wasabi rhizomes, understandably, it's less expensive than the grated one, but disappointed to see for an upscale sushi restaurant. For the entrees, some of us ordered sushi rolls and some ordered Thai rice kamameshi with different proteins. All of the ones who ordered rice entree said they were overly salted. Even the P.F. Bao with Wagyu appetizer tasted too salty. The sushi rolls looked very nice when served, but drenched with sauces on the bottom so it overpowered all the flavors of the roll. The Chef was heavy on the hand with the seasoning and sauces that night. Everyone agreed that the drinks were pretty good. Not too much sugar/syrup and not too much alcohol, just the right amount. The place has a very stylish Japanese decor. Overall it had a very nice ambiance and great music. Great for a quick bite to eat and drinks, but the entrees left more to be desired at that price point. Brickell parking is quite expensive too. There are limited street parking spaces and could cost up to $7 for 2 hours or private parking garages that cost $15 but you can park until 3am. So if you factor all the cost in, and rather pay for better quality fish, consider somewhere else. read more

Basically a Moscow mule with dragonfruit. It was good and strong. We also ordered the edamame to start. The edamame was good but there's not much you can do with them. For the main course I ordered sushi of course. The tropical yasai roll without cucumber. I'm not a fan of cucumber at all. The roll was not bad and had a good mix of flavor but I would definitely recommend the second roll I ordered. Moving on to the second round or drinks I changed to the Floridita Daiquiri and it was really good. Strong just like the first one and I'm a big Flor de Cana fan! In town for the night before our cruise, walked from our hotel room ten minutes to get here. The directions were tricky to get to, had to call the restaurant to find out it's behind the building. Parking around it is $15. It looks really nice on the outside. We walked in 7:50 pm on a Friday night, it was not even half way full. So much open seating. We were told they only take reservations on the weekends. If we wanted to eat there, but they could not sit us until 10:30 pm. Very disappointed because we really wanted good sushi. I actually had planned Nobu on this night, but ended up at Paperfish instead. It is not easy to find,. I literally drove right past it since the entrance is in the alley, not on the main street. It is located right behind Barsecco. The entrance is pretty cool and the inside is well decorated. What this place isn't is quiet/romantic. It is noisy and you are cramped in with lots of other Paperfish fans. It is also not overpriced. Now to the food. I really wanted to go to Nobu that night because they have about a dozen items that you simply can't get anywhere else. The last time I went to Nobu, there were 4 items that I could have eaten every day of my life, but there were a few that I would never order again and one that was horrible (in my opinion). So how did Paperfish stack up. Every item we ate was delicious. There was not one thing I wouldn't order again and there were 6 items I could eat every day of my life. We got out of Paperfish for only $200. The same experience at Nobu would have cost $500+. The cod was just as good as Nobu's cod at half the price. I am not saying that the selection is as large and that the top top end items are equal, but if you want great sushi at a great price and like crowded loud restaurants filled with beautiful people, then Paperfish is for you. The 6 items that will be on my table the next time I go Salmon Aburi, Hotruffle, Miso Black Cod, Seabass, Crispy Truffle Fried Rice, and the Chocolate Candy Bar. She was very thorough with the menu and drink options. Traveling with children, she informed them of their popular mock tails which they both enjoyed. Cool spot for birthday or date. We were seated by the bussing area. We asked if we could move because there were over 5 tables available by the pic-worthy cherry blossom tree. The hosts said they will let us know if someone cancels. Within a couple minutes the manager was kind enough to move our group to the center where the blossom tree is. After having a positive previous experience with PaperFish's Happy Hour and reading about their Miami Spice options, we decided to give their Miami Spice dinner a try. We went with friends as a party of 5 and booked for a Saturday night dinner. When we got there around 9 PM, the restaurant was absolutely slammed. We luckily did not have to wait long at all for a table and were sat in the back where bench seating was available. Once we were all sat, we took a look at the menus and began to order. I decided to try their signature Wasabi Martini while two of our friends ordered beers. For appetizers, my girlfriend and I both had the Crispy Rice, which was absolutely delicious and well-portioned. One of our other friends also had the Crispy Rice, while the two others enjoyed the Tiradito Apassionado and Nikki Tataki. Per them both dishes were excellent and fresh! The friend who ordered the Tiradito Apassionado enjoyed the hint of passion fruit that came with the dish, and the one who had the Nikki Tataki commended the yellow sauce that was on the Tuna. So at this point you're thinking: why the 3/5 stars? If Yelp had a half rating system, this would be 3.5 stars out of 5 instead of 3. Alas, there is no half rating system (fix this Yelp). The food had been excellent and was on point throughout the night, but it was at this point in time where the service started to taper off. I don't know if it was the fault of the restaurant being so slammed with multiple parties, but some stuff happened that you just don't expect at this price point. First, our waitress brings me my Wasabi Martini and mentions she was going to come back with something that would make it smile (apparently the drink is supposed to have some smokey presentation). I had to ask her to repeat herself because the music was very loud to the point where she had to lean over to hear us. "Cool" I thought. But throughout the night, she never came back with what she said she was getting for my drink. I brought it up later during the meal and said didn't you say the drink was supposed to come with something? She nodded but I don't think she heard me over the music. Disappointing but oh well. I proceeded to drink the Martini and it was excellent nonetheless! Not worth taking it back at all, but I was a little disappointed considering our waitress brought up what was missing and didn't follow through. Had it not been brought up, I wouldn't have been none the wiser. Second, our entrées took a long time to come out and came out separately. Again, this might've been due to how busy the restaurant was during that day, and if we were given a heads up that our food might be delayed as a result then that would've been much better. Three of us ordered the Black Cod entrée, my girlfriend ordered the Bourbon Chicken entrée, and our other friend had the Paper Roll. We noticed per the Spice menu that our Chicken and Fish entrées were supposed to come with rice. Our waitress did bring my girlfriend her rice after about a half hour wait, but told us our Black Cod dish did not come with rice. When we showed her that it was a part of the entrée on the menu, she apologized and got us our rice. It was fresh and steaming hot. As far as the food goes, everything was delicious. We thought the portions of the Bourbon Chicken and Sea Bass with rice were good. Especially the Bourbon Chicken! We finished the evening with the Lava Cake dessert, which was the perfect way to end our dinner and the shakiness we experienced in-between. It was one of the better lava cakes I've had around here. The food at Paper Fish is top notch! But, a new restaurant at it's price point really should work on making their service consistent. I was hoping to have a good experience with my friends who were visiting the neighborhood, but it seems like we experienced some of the same hiccups that people had below with their servers not fully understanding the menu (granted it was remedied when we brought it up to her). This experience was a far cry from what my girlfriend and I experienced for their happy hour back in June. I'm not sure if this inconsistency was because the restaurant was packed on a Saturday night, causing everyone from the kitchen to the bar and our waitress to be under stress, or, if it was because we ordered from the Miami Spice menu and not the regular menu? Regardless, it was disappointing, considering the higher price point and good quality of the food. It made my friends apprehensive about future Miami Spices and my girlfriend apprehensive about returning. I'm trying to convince everyone that this was a one time mishap and PaperFish is definitely worth a return visit! The food is definitely worth it but there is certainly room for improvement. The Martini issue was never remedied and the rice for our entrées would've never came if we hadn't said anything. Here's to hoping for a better all-around experience in the future. Paperfish is a new sushi restaurant in brickell. It has outdoor and indoor seating. First you pass through the torii (red painted poles) which in Japan are used to mark the boundary from the ordinary everyday and sacred. It is used here at Paperfish to that effect. Inside it is a paean to Japan, resplendent with faux pas cherry blossoms with a huge screen playing post war black and white footage of everyday Japan. It reminded me of Hanami-koji Street in Kyoto. So five stars for design. While the interior and exterior are a five and resplendent, the rest of the experience was not up to par, suggesting the growing pains of any new restaurant. Our server was excellent. She made great recommendations and was super friendly. Four and half for service. However the bar and food had issues. First our drinks were served well into our meal. I observed our waitress patiently cajoling the bar tenders to hurry; to no avail. My drink was an old fashion but with Japanese whiskey. The serving was pithy but good. The food came out ad hoc; which was fine. The stand out was the maguro foie and the Nikkei tataki. The other items were mostly forgettable. Our anticipation for the hamachi jalapeño was crushed as the dish was underwhelming. Although seeking to emulate Ichiro--the Japanese Micheline chef--the food falls on the palate like a dried cherry blossom in late April. One roll utterly fell apart when we tried to eat it. Three stars for the food and drinks. Japan in the 1950s was finding its footing: the US occupation ended in 1952 and the Korean War unleashed the economy and industrial production surged towards the end of the decade. Paperfish feels the same way--especially with the black and white films playing--it is still, like early 50s Japan trying to find its footing. You just have to pay 15 dollars to park in front of the place or near the garage on SE 14th street and S miami Ave. Location: it's on an alley East of Barsecco (behind it) and west of Novacento. I saw this new sushi spot listed on Eater's list of must try new restaurants, so of course I was excited. I had high expectations because it was on a list with other high end, super fresh, real deal sushi spots. Unfortunately my experience tonight was disappointing. I went with the intention of ordering their omakase $80/PP option, and was quickly informed that I couldn't do that because the executive chef wasn't working. I was also told the menu was limited to the printed paper menu due to his absence (seriously??). Ok, fine. Ordered a nice bottle of junmai daiginjo called "morning dew" which was nice, smooth but a little on the sweet side. I then proceeded to order a ton of stuff, which my waitress apparently only got half the items in. I ordered both tiraditos but she didn't hear me she said. We got the salmon crispy rice, which was probably one of the better options of the night. Tasty but very heavy on the truffle oil. We also ordered two makis - the tuna toro and the Misuna. When the waiter served them, we asked which they were and he said he didn't know, what did we order? Cmon.... ! The tuna toro was not toro. If you eat good sushi and know what toro is, you'll immediately know this wasn't toro. Disgraceful. The misuna was fine but the amount of salmon topping the roll was minuscule. We ate a couple bites and left 75% of the rolls. We then ordered a ton of nigiris from the regular menu and the special nigiris option. I ordered both Hokkaido and California uni and 30 mins later when they brought the sushi, they informed me they didn't have any uni. You really don't know what you have and don't have from the get go? And now for the actual nigiri.... From the regular nigiri, we ordered Ebi, ikura, hamachi and salmon. The ebi was not sweet Japanese shrimp - it was regular looking cocktail shrimp. I didn't even touch it. It looked awful. The salmon and the hamachi were good. From the special nigiri we ordered the ebi, hotate, wagyu, salmon belly, hamachi and foie Gras. This ebi was real ebi and actually paired well. The wagyu was tough and chewy and not anything to write home about. The salmon belly was the best piece. The hamachi was good too. And the foie gras was the talk of the night... not in a good way but because the portion of actual foie gras was SO small, that I couldn't even believe it. It was a piece of Akami topped with a fingernail size of foie.... I mean, i have no words. The decor of the restaurant is really nice. The live DJ is a cool idea but the music was very very loud. Overall, for $300, it was a waste of money and I will never recommend this place or return. If I have to give you a comparison, it's like the Doraku of brickell. I've tried PaperFish twice through Uber Eats delivery and the sushi was solid. I ordered the Maguro Nigiri, Rainbow Roll, Misuna, and Salmon Aburi this time and it tasted great but was missing something.. soy sauce. Both times I ordered PaperFish I checked off for utensils and condiments, and even left instructions to give me a side of soy sauce - but somehow was not given any. I've never had sushi with soy sauce so I'm very confused at how this could be forgotten to thrown into a sushi takeout order bag. This is the only reason why I'm leaving off a star. read more

My sister picked this place as she was craving sushi for her birthday. The outside decoration is intriguing as you climb up the stairs to get to the restaurant. With our reservation, we were hosted and seated inside. You will see a large screen playing an old school, black and white film of Japan back in the days (maybe 50's or 60's?). In the middle there is a long runner of cherry blossom trees with stones at the bottom. Our group ordered the California roll, spicy tuna roll, edamame, gyoza, dragonfruit lemonade mocktail, and fried rice bowls with chicken and shrimp. We were complimented with a bottle of sake and a small dessert from the manager as were celebrating the special occasion. read more

One of my favorite places I've eaten in Miami. Small-ish menu and every single thing is phenomenal. We had a huge group and probably ordered at least one of every single thing available. My favorites: salmon crispy rice (shockingly I liked this one better than the tuna), hamachi yuzu, rock shrimp, paper tuna, and the misuna. read more
