Most importantly-- the food and vibes inside were really good! But when me and my boyfriend first approached the host stand the host had her face in her phone, we had to talk for her to even acknowledge us and had an attitude the entire time like she was mad at us for being there... We had reservations we weren't trying to walk in when there were no tables left so it was odd. Our server was very nice but kept asking us what cocktails we wanted and after we said we weren't drinking she immediately became dry. I understand that servers try to rack up bills because they get auto gratuity but to get an attitude when we say we aren't drinking is crazy. We ordered a good amount of food and always tip on-top of the gratuity too! The sushi was really good and so was the spicy edamame. I want to come back and hopefully have a better experience.
This is my favorite place of all time in Miami. Whenever I go I come to Paperfish. The ambience is incredible with the decoration being super chic and Instagram worthy. Their Lychee Martini is incredible. And the food dont even get me started. The sushi was fresh and delicious, the Wagyu Buns were my favorite thing ever the Wagyu so tender 10/10. The service there was so attentive we also ended up getting into long conversation with our waiter. We went at like 5pm so their wasn't a lot of people at the restaurant mostly poeple that just got out of work.
Okay hear me out, I know my sushi... and this place unfortunately is not it. Yes, the restaurant is super cute and aesthetically pleasing, but the food was not fresh or impressive. If you're set on coming here, let me save you some trial and error and tell you what's actually worth ordering and what you should skip. Get: * Acevichado sushi * Paper Tuna sushi * Classic ceviche * Chocolate cake Skip: * Tuna & Salmon Crispy Rice -- the rice was so hard I could barely bite into it * Wagyu-Ni Signature Nigiri -- definitely did not taste like real wagyu * Salmon Aburi Signature Nigiri -- tasted fishy and not fresh * The drinks -- my mocktail was disappointing and my coworker's cocktail was overwhelmingly strong Overall, cute vibe but the quality of the food did not match the prices or the hype.
I'm sorry to not write a raving review but I don't see myself coming back to Paperfish. Stopped by for lunch with my mom and loved that they have a lunch menu for $28, but it's not a meal I would come back for. Miso soup was great. But then I got the salmon tiradito which was bad. it had a passion fruit sauce that congealed probably from sitting in the refrigerator already plated with the salmon. The fish was really cold and sitting in this thick, very sweet passion sauce. Honestly just not good. I left most of it. Then we each got a chirashi. it's a glorified poke bowl as it comes with fish cut in cubes, with nor ginger, wasabi, or fresh flavor. And worst of all, there was truffle. Truffle is really not my thing with sushi and it's everywhere in Miami. I just wish they would've written truffle on the menu so I could've ordered something else. The ambiance is nice and seems like a cool place to come by, but I wouldn't return here for sushi.
An Evening--unexpected--yet precise. Paperfish is not merely a place to dine-- it is a quiet unfolding--of texture, of taste--of pause. Each plate arrives--like a small revelation-- delicate--intentional--undisturbed. The sushi--exceptional. Not loud--but certain. Freshness does not announce itself--it lingers-- in the softness of the rice--the clean finish of each bite. There is an intimacy--to the space-- a dim-lit hum--where conversation softens-- and time--loosens its grip. Service--attentive, without intrusion-- as if they understand-- that moments like these--should not be rushed. One leaves--slightly altered-- not full--but fulfilled
Incredible! We got the tuna & salmon crispy rice, wagyu dumplings, miso cod bites, a5 sando, and a delicious sushi roll. Truly some of the best food I've had in awhile! The service was ok our server was bartending as well. However there was a very helpful server named Richard that guided us through our meal. For dessert we got the tea tea crème brûlée which was good but didn't compare to the dinner. Thank you sm!!!!!
Paperfish is my favorite restaurant in Miami! I've been here 3 times and each time has been a memorable experience.
Every bite was fantastic--I'm still dreaming about the black cod bites. The torched salmon aburi was truly melt-in-your-mouth, and the hand rolls reminded me so much of KazuNori in NYC. The fish ceviche was also excellent and incredibly fresh. My one downside was the sake situation. We ordered a bottle, only to be told it wasn't available--this happened three separate times before we finally gave up and asked for three glasses of whatever sake they actually had. That felt like a clear miss on the procurement/inventory side. That said, the space itself is very cool. The interior is covered in collage-style artwork, there's a massive faux tree structure in the center of the room, and a projector playing visuals that really adds to the vibe. Overall, amazing food and atmosphere--just wish the beverage execution matched the rest of the experience.
First time coming to Paperfish and I feel like it was a bit overhyped. I came here with my cousin for a drink and some appetizers and was not impressed by any of it. For starters, we did not see the restaurant until we turned the corner while looking for parking because it looks like it's in an alleyway between other buildings and businesses. We found street parking about half a block away (pay by phone of course). The restaurant does not offer valet and I am unsure if the spaces in front of the restaurant are paid parking or if it's for another business. The restaurant is nicely decorated and the servers were nice and very attentive. They were quick to serve us our drinks and first 2 appetizers, and they cleared the tables quickly when we were done with a dish or drink. However the last appetizer took a bit longer to arrive. Sadly, I was not impressed by the food or drinks, and there was not one thing I ordered that would bring me back to the restaurant. I may have been anticipating coming to this restaurant for so long and expected too much, or maybe the things we ordered are not the things that the restaurant is known for. I would much rather go to another sushi spot.
We came here on a semi busy Friday night for some sushi. We ordered the baby corn, the jalapeño sushi and the Wagyu. I didn't realize that with the wagyu that you basically have to cook it yourself. you have to be quick because the actual hot stove cools off within a few minutes, so it felt a little rushed to eat it since we were sitting outside. I wish we were more about that prior to ordering. The sushi was really good. It was a little bit spicy, but still great. The baby corn was great. It was very unique and very well seasoned. I was also really happy with the shrimp that we got. It was perfectly coated in a sauce.
Highly recommend the black cod bites! If you were to pick anything pick that! Wow those flavors together, chef kiss!
My friends suggested this place for a happy hour on a Friday evening. I got there a little earlier than they did and sat at the bar and was handed the menu for the Miami Spice month. It looked good, but I really wanted to try the happy hour menu my friends spoke of. So I had to ask for it. My friend arrived shortly after and we ordered drinks from it. The drinks not only were delicious, but also very appealing to the eye. The bartender was a little inattentive. She was on her phone for a long time, and genuinely I really don't care, but I clocked it because we were one of the only group sitting there, and there was two of us, and then there was another person sitting by themselves, and we constantly were trying to have to get her attention. However, a second bartender arrived within 15-20 minutes and really turned the night around. We ordered a lot of sushi off the happy hour menu and all of it was amazing. So overall, this is a solid place for sushi and an adequate place for happy hour.
I saw this new sushi spot listed on Eater's list of must try new restaurants, so of course I was excited. I had high expectations because it was on a list with other high end, super fresh, real deal sushi spots. Unfortunately my experience tonight was disappointing. I went with the intention of ordering their omakase $80/PP option, and was quickly informed that I couldn't do that because the executive chef wasn't working. I was also told the menu was limited to the printed paper menu due to his absence (seriously??). Ok, fine. Ordered a nice bottle of junmai daiginjo called "morning dew" which was nice, smooth but a little on the sweet side. I then proceeded to order a ton of stuff, which my waitress apparently only got half the items in. I ordered both tiraditos but she didn't hear me she said. We got the salmon crispy rice, which was probably one of the better options of the night. Tasty but very heavy on the truffle oil. We also ordered two makis - the tuna toro and the Misuna. When the waiter served them, we asked which they were and he said he didn't know, what did we order? Cmon.... ! The tuna toro was not toro. If you eat good sushi and know what toro is, you'll immediately know this wasn't toro. Disgraceful. The misuna was fine but the amount of salmon topping the roll was minuscule. We ate a couple bites and left 75% of the rolls. We then ordered a ton of nigiris from the regular menu and the special nigiris option. I ordered both Hokkaido and California uni and 30 mins later when they brought the sushi, they informed me they didn't have any uni. You really don't know what you have and don't have from the get go? And now for the actual nigiri.... From the regular nigiri, we ordered Ebi, ikura, hamachi and salmon. The ebi was not sweet Japanese shrimp - it was regular looking cocktail shrimp. I didn't even touch it. It looked awful. The salmon and the hamachi were good. From the special nigiri we ordered the ebi, hotate, wagyu, salmon belly, hamachi and foie Gras. This ebi was real ebi and actually paired well. The wagyu was tough and chewy and not anything to write home about. The salmon belly was the best piece. The hamachi was good too. And the foie gras was the talk of the night... not in a good way but because the portion of actual foie gras was SO small, that I couldn't even believe it. It was a piece of Akami topped with a fingernail size of foie.... I mean, i have no words. The decor of the restaurant is really nice. The live DJ is a cool idea but the music was very very loud. Overall, for $300, it was a waste of money and I will never recommend this place or return. If I have to give you a comparison, it's like the Doraku of brickell. Such a disappointing dinner. read more

I've tried PaperFish twice through Uber Eats delivery and the sushi was solid. I ordered the Maguro Nigiri, Rainbow Roll, Misuna, and Salmon Aburi this time and it tasted great but was missing something.. soy sauce. Both times I ordered PaperFish I checked off for utensils and condiments, and even left instructions to give me a side of soy sauce - but somehow was not given any. I've never had sushi with soy sauce so I'm very confused at how this could be forgotten to thrown into a sushi takeout order bag. This is the only reason why I'm leaving off a star. read more

Went to Paperfish tonight and sat at the bar. Ordered the shishito peppers, the uni, and the misuna maki. And also some sake. The peppers and uni came and they were delicious. The peppers come with a great thick miso sauce and the uni was served inside cucumber pieces. The misuna took a significantly long time but finally came. Because it was late they gave that to me free of charge as well as a free glass of sake. My wait person, Luciana, was stupendous! Will definitely keep going back. read more

My sister picked this place as she was craving sushi for her birthday. The outside decoration is intriguing as you climb up the stairs to get to the restaurant. With our reservation, we were hosted and seated inside. You will see a large screen playing an old school, black and white film of Japan back in the days (maybe 50's or 60's?). In the middle there is a long runner of cherry blossom trees with stones at the bottom. Our group ordered the California roll, spicy tuna roll, edamame, gyoza, dragonfruit lemonade mocktail, and fried rice bowls with chicken and shrimp. Great food and great ambiance! Paperfish is a hidden gem (like actually hidden -- was a little tough to find) in Brickell, next to Barsecco. It is beautifully decorated with paper lanterns hanging from the ceiling and cute cherry blossoms trees. It is perfect for a date night or a night out with friends! My friend and I visited on a Thursday evening and requested a specific table outdoors. The hostesses were kind enough to allow us to sit there even though it was just 2 of us and the table was for 4 (the place was slammed all night, so very nice of them to accommodate us). However, the table was not ready yet and still had not been cleaned. After standing around waiting for a bit, we asked the hostess if we could sit down as we waited for the table to be cleaned. She said yes, but about a minute after we sat down, the hostess approached us and said the manager asked that we get up and wait for the table to be cleaned. I thought that was pretty rude, considering we had already sat down and had been waiting quite a bit for them to clean the table. despite that little hiccup, it was a great experience. A bit pricey for the small portions, but the food does not disappoint! Wagyu beef bao buns and the acevichado were absolutely delicious. The service was exceptional. Juan was our server and he did an excellent job at recommending the best dishes and drinks. He was very attentive and checked in on us frequently. Overall I recommend. Like with every other restaurant in miami, reservations are highly encouraged. read more

I wouldn't go back to reviewing restaurants without saying that it has been hard enough to keep businesses open and employees working, that when I see a new business in town I know is an open support to our local economy and it should be given a chance before judging and destroying their effort to build a better Miami, for this Thank You! (5 stars) When I arrived to this location the first thing I noticed is their beautiful entrance and the fact that is under the downtown metro mover and in an alley it gives you the feeling that you are entering in a Manhattan restaurant in a New York Summer. The decoration is absolutely beautiful and ever detail is at the right spot, they even have sake barrels on top of the bar and they look amazing (sorry I forgot to take pictures of this).... I tried many items, LOVED the tuna crispy rice it had a very well balance of crispiness LOL, and the tuna was fresh, I love the rolls and the crispy rice roll was amazing but what I really have to come back for and completely recommend is the Krab Salad BAO, it has been long since a restaurant in Miami is this generous when putting Crab to a plate, it was very juice with a mix of cucumber (I think ) and some very light sauce...YUMMY By dessert time I was very full so I did not have any dessert but I heard from my table neighbors that the Moshi Ice cream was very good, I definitely will comeback for more BAO's some Moshi and of course sushi! Super amazing spot for a nice, scenery sushi dinner. The ambience is great. I do wish they didn't announce the check total to the whole table at the end of the meal though - felt really tacky. The truffle scallop sashimi was the standout for sure!! They make a delicious jalapeño martini, too. The sake selection is also really extensive. Happy hour specials too- I think they change pretty frequently so call to see what it is but it's def a good HH spot! Really enjoyable place with a great atmosphere, delicious food and excellent cocktails. We tasted a wise variety of things from sushi to dumplings - everything was excellent. The cocktails are really great here, so be sure not to skip. Our waiter and the manager were very polite and service was quick and efficient. The most difficult part is finding the place! This place is absolutely to die for! A fun place to dine in with amazing food. The nigiri was so fresh and so worth it. I wished they flambé or seared the toro toro to have a more smokey flavor. The uni was so buttery and tasty. The sushi was absolutely perfect. The Salmon Furai was crispy on the outside from the tempura. We also ordered a roll with seared tuna on top with truffle and it was so rich and yummy. The crispy rice with tuna was incredible. For dessert, we got the thai tea crème brûlée and was so delicious. Highly recommend going here with friends or even for a date. The environment is very busy and loud which made it fun. The decorations and art inside brought the experience to life. Thank you Rami for taking care of us tonight, you were extremely attentive, helped make great recommendations, and overall made our experience at Paperfish one to remember. Upon walking you will notice the beautiful decor and lighting. The food was absolutely delicious and the presentation was great. Drinks were also very very good. I don't have pictures of everything but I highly recommend the wagyu-ni (2pieces) very flavorful, the paper tuna, the New York maki, and the spicy tuna rolls to drink we had some sake and the Cucuzaki which was extremely delicious and refreshing. Best sushi in a long time and that's coming from someone who has lived in Japan and California. Went here on New Year's Eve for dinner and had a blast. Great flavorful cocktails. I was here during happy hour with a group of friends so we got to try a variety of things for a great price! Everything we got was amazing, all of the rolls from the happy hour menu were delicious, but my favorites were the ones we got from the regular menu, the Salmon Furai and Ebi Katsu roll. The drinks were great and the atmosphere was even better. The only thing I didn't enjoy was the rice; we tried the furikake rice and the truffle fried rice, but they were both lacking flavor and they seemed to be over cooked. But the service was excellent! As soon as we finished a dish, someone was there to clear the table and our drinks were always full thanks to the attentive staff who constantly refilled our glasses. read more
