Was craving some sushi while in town and happened upon Paperfish. I was solo but wanted to try several things so I definitely dropped a few bucks on dinner here. It was all good but I'm not sure I'd be making a beeline to return next time I'm in the area unless it's during their happy hour, which would have afforded me all the dishes I tried at a pretty hefty discount. I ordered the crispy rice tuna and crispy rice salmon and while the fish was excellent, the crispy rice was more chewy than crispy. And not just a little chewy, quite a bit chewy. Otherwise, fine. Not sure I'd order it again. I also went with the spicy tuna roll. Also good, but not particularly noteworthy for a spicy tuna roll at almost $20. Finally, i went with the crispy truffle fried rice with the wagyu beef. This was the standout! The beef was excellent. The rice was quite heavy on the truffle but if you like that, you're gonna love it. And the crispy rice was crispy in here. Giving it a really excellent texture. And the veggies were perfectly cooked and so bright and vibrant. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The location is great. I sat on the patio and it was lively and fun people watching and enjoying the energy of the strip.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Inside the space looked very cool, as well.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Service was fine as well. Nothing particularly noteworthy but not bad at all. All in all I don't regret my meal one bit and did enjoy it. But I'd be more likely to return for a happy hour meal to get a bit more bang for my buck.

Paperfish is sooo good! We came here for our Valentine's Day dinner and I'm so glad we did! They had a specialty menu and everything was a surprise for us and it was to die for. All there sushi, fish, and even wagyu was delicious and made to perfection. The drinks look very well made to from what I saw people ordering around us. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The music was phenomenal such a vibe too.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Parking can be a mission around here because it's in Miami Beach. We took an uber and didn't have an issue. Highly recommend anyone to check them out!

Trying to find more casual places we like to walk to and decided to try Paperfish. When I saw that it was on Espanola Way I hesitated because it's SO touristy, but we went anyway based on the reviews. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I always find the artificial cherry blossoms/flowers a red flag in restaurants and tried to ignore that - literal dust collectors.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]I would give 4 stars for the food but honestly - the vibe was so chaotic with the dueling blaring music outside from the other restaurants.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Our server was ok - she had tables inside and outside, and she definitely needed deodorant. It was a bit shocking every time she leaned over to clear plates or pour water. The cut rolls were massive so that was unexpected. Definitely more food than we had anticipated. The hamachi was spectacular. Surprisingly the toro was not my fav and it usually is. Was a bit chewy which I've never experienced before. Also recommend the pork/shrimp gyoza. The food was good but not sure we'll be back - not really our vibe.

We found paper fish on our last day visiting Miami. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Absolutely love the area that it is located in. Adorable closed off street with foot traffic and lots of restaurants to choose from. Outdoor mall within walking as well.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We did the happy hour menu as suggested by fellow yelpers. We had to ask about it, and I got the impression that the servers were a little bit annoyed when I did. It was delicious although the portions were tiny for happy hour. We got the Shishido peppers (my fav, ordered seconds), California roll, dragon roll, edamame, crispy rice with salmon gyoza and passionfruit martini. The only thing I didn't like was the crispy rice as it was a bit chewy versus crunchy, and had a strong taste of truffle which I thought was odd. Joy was lovely and friendly and the service was very quick.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Strongly suggest you to visit Espanola way if you get the chance. This short street becomes a pedestrian only street and all restaurants have the outside tables. With the lights and music, a bit party ground for sure.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] We enjoyed Sushi at Paperfish, warm Sake and lots of fun conversations. I Particularly loved the ceviche, beef tartar and scallops. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Halfway through the dinner, there are several birthday celebrations. One of them, we assumed, was at the Italian restaurant a few step right across from us, wait staff and people started dancing and waving the clothed napkins with the lively joyful music. Everyone was so happy. Such a fun night for us.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]Another bonus is that Miami Beach is about two blocks east of this street, walked over and saw bright Orion's Belt and other stars shining right in front of you. Such a great meal. We ordered the Japanese steak, the trio of ceviches, and a can of Kikusui sake. Everything was genuinely delicious. The ceviche trio was super fresh and flavorful. Each one tasted different, and it was perfect for sharing. The steak was cooked really well with a great char. The green sauce on top made it even better. The blistered shishito peppers on the side were a nice bonus. The Kikusui sake was crisp and refreshing and paired really well with the food. Service was attentive without hovering. Our server checked in at the right times and kept everything moving smoothly. Definitely coming back. Great food and great vibes.

I always have a wonderful experience every time I go to Paperfish. It's nestled in vibrant Española Way. [[HIGHLIGHT]]The decor makes you feel like you're really inside a Japanese izakaya with its cherry blossom trees and paper lanterns.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The happy hour menu here is pretty amazing with cocktails and shareable bites and rolls. Tonight we had several rolls and my fave the truffled scallops on a bed of mash. Flavors are incredible! At first we sat outside, but it was so noisy, and hot, that we asked to move inside, and they were very kind, and let us do so. We ordered some martinis, which were 10 out of 10. We ordred a few apps-- the cod bites were incredible! And then we ordered some noodles, sushi and a few other nigiri. All of it was excellent! I would absolutely come back here when in Miami. The mood lighting inside was great-- my pictures make it seem like it was too dark, but it wasn't.

Paperfish provided us with an extremely efficient experience. We were in and out in an hour, though I could have stayed for longer. The food was good. I got the truffle fried rice with chicken which I enjoyed but the portion was a little smaller than I expected. Still a fine amount of food. My main complaint was that they brought out my food and my friends food separately, so we were stuck with only one of us having hot food while the other had nothing. read more

My friends and I went to this restaurant after the beach one day. We went for their happy hour, which I believe started at 3pm. They had a good variety of items on the happy hour menu - from drinks to appetizers and rolls of sushi. We ordered a little of everything, and then a little more after the first round. The staff was very nice and attentive, even going as far as to offer a phone charger to a friend who needed one. Overall, we had a great experience! read more

The location of the place is excellent. Both inside and outdoors, the aesthetic was quite serene and lovely, and the food was excellent. Although some of the quantities were small, it's okay because they did fill you up quickly. Everything had a pleasant flavor. The folks were very friendly and engaged. We didn't mind the semi-slow service because we weren't in a rush. PaperFish is absolutely amazing! Went for their Happy Hour on our last day of a girls' trip to Miami, and it didn't disappoint. Our waiter, Jonni was so personable and had great recommendations. We ordered the margarita, whiskey sour, edamame, California roll, spicy tuna roll, and the pork and shrimp gyoza off the happy hour menu, and it was all delicious. The Ebi Katsu on the regular menu was recommended by Jonni and was to die for (he literally has an allergy to shrimp and still eats it, and I would too). The crispy truffle fried rice was also a great addition! Cannot recommend PaperFish more if you're in Miami!! read more

So the quality of the food is a 4 star. However the service. From the time your server puts in the order to the time the food arrived at the table -- under 2 minutes.. no joke. You almost feel like the food is premade. My dinner was over in 20 minutes. Not a great night out. I spoke with the manager. He said, they have so much staff in the kitchen. They also have way to many servers just standing around. He acknowledged the issue He also mentioned a 20% off for locals. That helps with the 20 percent they add on automatically for gratuity. read more

This is our sushi go-to the past two years we have visited Miami Beach. We stayed three days at the beach and each day we were at Paperfish :) ... the sushi is consistently wonderful and our servers attentive. Highlights for us - the crispy rice salmon appetizer and a salmon aburi (truffle + salmon is always amazing), Paper Tuna roll, Misuna, P.F. Bao, and Hamachi Jalapeño. If you arrive from 4-7p, some of these are on the happy hour menu - so there's more to enjoy. Lunch menu offers lovely bento boxes. read more

Lovely evening for sitting outside, although the interior is stunning also. Nia our server was friendly, helpful, and accommodating. The Rose Sake perfect. We had miso black cod, sea bass, grouper, peppers, and dumplings. The unusual seasoning on everything was a treat. The manager Michael deserves credit for watching to be sure everything is perfect for you. Understand it has just opened (12/22) so please be helpful and tell the manager if you have any concerns. Conveniently located in the heart of Washington Ave on Española Way, Paperfish is wonderful! I stopped by during Art Basel and am really happy that I discovered this place. My server was Monica and she was an absolute delight! She had a very neighborly personality and was accommodating for all my questions. She was very patient and had exceptional knowledge of the menu. At her recommendation, I had the Misuna Roll and a Wasabi Martini. The roll was delicious and the drink was crisp and refreshing. My only regret was not taking any pictures of my meal because I instantly indulged when it arrived. 5 *'s I will definitely be back read more

Excellent dinner here at Paper Fish in South Beach. I've never really been willing to dive into sushi, but this was too good to pass up. And...I loved it. So happy I went to check out the new paper fish location in south beach! One of the best sushi experiences I've ever had, the food, the ambience, and service was amazing! My server, Monica was very sweet and bubbly and had the best recommendations for me and my bestie. We got the tuna crispy rice, miso black cod, yummy specialty cocktails, rolls to split, and crème brûlée for dessert. having tried 4 restaurants so far on our miami trip, this is the best one so far. while i'd skip the edamame (adding togarashi to plain boiled edamame is considered "spicy"), the rest of our meal was phenomenal. the deluxe platter (forget the exact name) for 120 had many different flavor profiles and fish tasted fresh. service was also top notch in our experience. manager checked in on us regularly without feeling disruptive, and our server joy was.. well.. a joy. attentive and friendly. she's the best! read more

We made our way to the host and ask for seating inside... well, I was wearing a ball cap, so I wasn't allowed to dine inside, but the roadside seating was offered... hey, I understand rules of apparel, but when you are appealing to "World Cup" fans... you could do worse than someone wearing just a ball cap. I understand that rules are rules, so I was satisfied with where we were seated at... besides, I was excited with the great smells that were emanating from inside of the restaurant. As I began to look at the menu, I will admit that I was a little shocked with the prices of the cuisine, but I got to thinking that this could be a high end joint, I was ok with it. I was financially prepared. A female server came over to our table and asked to take our drink order. I guess I must have offended her when she offered to serve us Aqua Panna water in the liter bottle for $12.00 a bottle, and my response was that my country raising refused to let me pay $12.00 a bottle for water, especially when you can order a case of it off of Amazon for $36.00 for a case of twelve bottles. I decided that I would settle for a good old southern staple of "sweet tea" to drink, which was seconded by another person in my group, while the third person decided to have a Sprite. Our server left us to go and fill our drink order and finally made her way back to us after about 15 minutes of being gone to advise us, that the "bar" informed her that they no longer had any sweet tea for the night. The time was 9:30pm and they were open for business till 12:00am, so I was a bit set back by this, but I wanted a steak. I ended up ordering a plain old tap water to drink because, well, I was not going to pay $12 for a bottle of water... I was not dying of thirst yet. So we ended up getting a lemonade brought to the table, a glass of water, and an eight ounce glass bottle of Sprite, at $5.00 a bottle. We got our drinks, so now let's talk about our food. I ordered a 14 ounce New York Strip steak, medium well... I'm getting older and don't digest uncooked food so well anymore, sadly. The rest of my party ordered the filet mignon medium rare, and the third finished off with the chicken parm plate. Our sides that we ordered were roasted brussel sprouts, and a loaded baked potato without chives. Now comes the good part... if you are still here, you are going to find out if they can cook a good steak or not... Well, we got our food after another lengthy wait. Now let me tell you, the guy who brought our food gave me one of the most beautiful cuts of steak that I think I have ever seen. It was definitely a New York Strip. I could already tell from the juices running in my plate that my steak was definitely undercooked. I looked over at my party's food and see the chicken parm, and I'm telling it looked and smelled great. The filet mignon smelled great but it appeared to be over cooked. From what I could tell, it looked like the cook got the order backwards. We cut into the respective steaks and my suspicion was right, the Filet Mignon was over cooked and the New York Strip was way undercooked. At this time, it is getting late. It is after 10pm and I had just finished a six hundred mile drive, I would have eaten my shoe if it was served right. I cut into my steak and began eating it. There was no flavor on the meat at all, I guess they don't use seasoning, other than the grilled garlic clove, that is to be used when eating the steak. I did get to taste the filet mignon, and it had way more flavor thank New York Strip. Sadly, I must have drawn the short straw on this meal. I was hungry and I was refusing to let a $70 steak go to waste, so I ate the entire cut of this steak. To bring this to a close I want to address the billing. They added a service charge to the receipt, which is something I have been used to if there was a large party, but for them to serve three people, I felt we should have been the once's to decide on the amount of the tip we leave our serve. This is to keep the server honest and make sure they take of the customer. The odd thing is I usually tip over 20 percent because I have family who are part of hospitality business. They make their living on tips. This night it didn't total up to what normally give... I was not inclined to give it either. I understand the goal is to make money, but I am a believer in taking care of your customer...Maybe it was the way I was dressed, or how I sounded with my southern draw, I feel like this restaurant really misread me and my group

Unfortunately, neither lived up to expectations. We started with the "jumbo" wings, which were anything but jumbo. We received only flats, and they were some of the smallest wings I've ever been served. After bringing this to the staff's attention, we were told the manager would take 50% off the order. However, when the bill arrived, we were informed that the manager had already left and the discount could no longer be honored. Instead, we were given only the $4 happy hour discount, despite being promised otherwise. For our entrées, we ordered the brisket sandwich and the half chicken. Neither was worth ordering. The chicken lacked the crispy texture it was advertised to have, and the brisket was bland and without flavor. The sandwich was also supposed to come with truffle fries, but instead we were served cold, plain fries. After mentioning it, the solution was to bring us a side of truffle oil and Parmesan cheese and ask us to mix it ourselves. The service was equally disappointing. We asked our server twice for drink refills, but she never brought them. We eventually had to flag down another server just to get our beverages refilled. Overall, this was a frustrating dining experience from start to finish. Between the poor-quality food, unfulfilled promises regarding the bill, and inattentive service, this restaurant fell well below the standard I would expect from a Miami establishment. I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience deserves one. I sincerely hope management addresses these issues because the current level of food quality and customer service is simply unacceptable. and quality is embarrassing for miami.

I visited Paperfish a couple of weeks ago and honestly, I was really disappointed with the experience. The sushi itself was actually good, which made it even more frustrating that everything else was so off. As soon as I walked in, I was met with dirty looks from the staff. One employee came up and asked what I needed, and when I said I was just there to pick up an order, the attitude didn't change--they still treated me like I didn't belong there. The atmosphere seemed fine at first, but things quickly took a turn when I saw a roach crawling across the floor. One of the servers killed it right away, which I appreciated, but it was still pretty unsettling. The only person who showed any kindness was the manager, who was professional and respectful. Unfortunately, that wasn't enough to make up for how badly the rest of the staff treated me. Lovely venue in the heart of Española Way, which has so much character and personality. Sitting outside and watching people walk by is entertaining all on its own. I've been here twice and was impressed with the sushi quality. There aren't many high end Japanese sushi restaurants on south beach that cater to die hard sushi fans. So if you're a lover of exotic nigiri this is the place for you, along with tasty hot foods and rolls. Chose to dine here off a recommendation and was NOT disappointed! The food was amazing... from drinks, (yes, try the Wasabi Martini,) to apps to main to dessert. Our waitress, Nina, made excellent, honest recommendations and was spot on with all of her suggestions! Service from the entire staff was prompt and very friendly. Ambiance was also 5 stars even on an unusually cold night in Miami outside on the patio. They had the heaters roaring and the lights of Española Way are beautiful. All the lighting, colors, and decoration point your eyes toward the chef as if he was on a stage. The restaurant is small, only a few seats around the table. This was nice because you get to know about your fellow guests. Everyone in attendance was so fun and personable. Now for the food. I will confess, I do not normally even like sushi or crave Asian food of this style. However, I loved every dish that was served to me. They hit all the senses - sight, sound, touch, smell, and taste. Other reviews have gone into detail about the various dishes and how good they are so I don't need to. If you're going to drop a grand or two for dinner you are 1. Looking for something really special, 2. Want great food, great service and a special experience, 3. Can afford it or at least for a special occasion. I can't speak to your budget but Nossa, which means "Wow" in Portuguese will provide you with a very unique experience, a "Wow". You pay for a non refundable meal on Tock, in advance. Tax, tip, beverages and extras will be paid onsite later. There are only 15 or so spots per night, 6-8 per seating. Be sure to pay attention to the email instructions. You must arrive in advance (not Miami time). Part of the fun is finding the place. You are directed to a small poke shop where it looks like you're in the wrong place. You ask the cashier for instructions. He hands you an envelope with your name on it. You open it up and it tells you how to find Nossa. There is a secret hidden entrance close by and they will ask you the password before allowing you in. The secret door opens to a small speakeasy type bar with silent movies playing on the wall and you are offered a complimentary glass of bubbles (Prosecco). You are later escorted into a beautiful room, black with red lights, Japanese lanterns, jellyfish art, a large open kitchen and a custom semi circular marble dining counter with a spot light over each guests service area, where you and a few other guests (8 total maximum) will enjoy watching the night's preparations served directly in front of you. Depending on the theme of the night the focus might be on fish, wagyu, caviar, sake or whiskey matching. Chef Max Kamakura of Brazilian and Japanese background starts the show. Expect a lot of smoke, fire and showmanship as he creates 13 or more courses for you. On our visit in August the focus was Wagyu A5, see photo of menu. We had 7 different Wagyu preparations (oyster, tartare, smoking sando, tataki, Shabu shabu, uni, lemon and chasola), with 4 nigiris and dessert. We also took them up on several additional nigiris which were $20 each ++ per person extra, adds up. There is a small wine and sake list or corkage is available for wine collectors. I found it interesting that Nossa ages their own fish. Yes certain fish can be aged if you know what your doing. And like prime dry aged beef the fish can gain amazing complexity. We tried some aged fish next to fresh and it was quite surprising. Chef Kamakura uses an array of special cooking gadgets, smokers, and at times it looks like the lab of a mad scientist or a magician. When he's done you are served in an array of unique and attractive dishes. Nossa is not for everyone, but if you're an adventurous foodie who can handle Michelin prices and are looking for a unique experience then Nossa is for you.
