Anyone that's been to Dallas (or perhaps just certain parts of Texas in general), knows all about the chain of "Papa" restaurants that range in all sorts of genres of foods. The Papadeaux Seafood Kitchen, which is the Cajun brand of the Papa restaurants, is my favorite of all the chains. Food is always fresh and flavorful with the service always being friendly and fast. This particular location is at the Dallas airport and it's great bc it's literally one floor beneath the airport so it's quite peaceful when you sit in its inviting and warm decor. I tried their "Mississippi Catfish Opelousas" which had blackened catfish fillets in a Cajun cream sauce loaded with shrimp, oysters, and lump crab meat served over dirty rice. The whole dish was decadently flavorful and hit the spot right before my connecting flight. Portions are quite large and worth the somewhat steep price. read more

This place defies all of my knowledge and thoughts about airport food. How can this joint manage to be this good, to as many world travelers, consistent by all appearances and indicators by myself and the continued good reviews, is baffling to me and makes me question reality itself in that if this is possible, can world peace actually be a possibility, in the world somehow, in the future of the world, and all of its people in all of the lands from beginning of time until the end of time, amen. That's a run on with terrible grammar.... That's how far off this place has thrown me. My server was also a freaking rock star!! What in the world is happening at Terminal A, DFW?!?!? He made excellent suggestions and took excellent care of me! In fact, all of the staff seemed to be top notch! Inside is like you are nowhere near an airport. It's kind of sunken between terminal floors or something. I took an elevator down and popped out in a strange place in a server area where my actual server was just standing there waiting. How in this hell is that étouffée that damn good. Now I realize some of the best Cajun food I've ever had came from a frozen bag from a place in Franklin TN (that's another story on Yat's), so I am likely not the best judge, but I do know good food. What I had here was really good. I got the crawfish platter and it was enough food for me, my server, and the fat guy sitting next to me at the other table. Well, maybe not, he ate all of his plate and then a whole dessert. I missed what he had before he inhaled it. But.... My server was skinny so.... LOL. I ate and ate until I could not eat anymore and still only managed to knock out about 50% of it. The fried crawfish was great and cooked perfectly. Just the right seasoning too. Dirty rice is hit or miss for me seasoning wise, but this version was really good too. I ate a good bit of it. The étouffée part of the dish was the real star of the show. Holy shit! So gooooood! Throw some of those fried ones in it and damn. I'm done. No more. If you read this, get your ass the DFW Terminal A and get some of this inside you as fast as you can! Stop what you are doing, miss that flight, leave grandma at the gate, ditch the kids, whatever you have to do, do it now, get on the dang train if need be and go get some of this food in your damn belly! Probably the best meal I have had at an airport. It's hidden downstairs from the rest of the terminal and isolates you from the madness. I was sat immediately and Damarion G took great care of me. It was like fine dining fast forwarded. I got the andouille sausage and seafood gumbo to start. Delightful. Light and full of Cajun flavor with the meaty punch of the sausage. The Redfin portion was ginormous. It came with 4 large shrimp seasoned in Cajun goodness and lump crab on top. Buttery and delicious. What a magnificent break from the chaos of the airport to a delicious and wonderful meal. Take the elevator up and be transported into a mini replica of the original restaurant. Lots of menu options, full bar and lovely atmosphere. Started off with that shrimp fondue and it was to die for. Creamy, delicious, cheesy and piping hot. It was loaded with shrimp and large enough to be a full meal. It's served with toast. Then had the espresso martini and prosecco and both were good. The Mardi Gras pasta was absolutely delicious! This is my go to place to eat in Dallas Ft Worth with the southern fried classic vibe with fantastic bluesy music and friendly staff who serve a high quality seafood fare and have plenty of seating to boot. I like ordering the combination po boy with all seafood options at no additional price. It comes with a side of fries and is cooked to perfection. Additionally what I love about this place is you take an escalator below the main level to get to it so it doesn't feel like an airport restaurant - it's just a restaurant and it removes you from the loudspeakers and foot traffic and makes it all feel like a neighborhood joint. I came here because my flight was delayed, and I would definitely have had a better experience if I had sat at a booth instead of the bar. I was grateful for the bartender, though, since he let me use the charger behind the bar for my phone. The bar was just so squished, and they packed it with chairs. I was sitting 1 inch away from people on both sides. I got the Crab & Spinach Dip, Atlantic Salmon Alexander, and Pecan Pie. Crab & Spinach Dip - Pretty good but I just wish that it had more crab, especially for the price I paid. The garlic bread was crunchy and flavorful, but a bit too oily paired with the oily dip. Atlantic Salmon Alexander - Honestly, nothing special. The crawfish was pretty overdone, but the shrimp on the side was pretty good. The rice was bland and hard but the salmon was great. The sauce was nothing special. Pecan Pie - Honestly, so good! I forgot how much I like pecan pie, but this was the perfect end to the meal. The pie wasn't too sweet, honestly I could have probably eaten another entire slice LOL. Overall, decent experience, especially for the airport. Stopped by Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen (located in terminal A near gate 25) as I arrived to the airport with some time to spare before my flight. When I completed a search of all the restaurants in the airport, pappadeaux specially in terminal A was rated the highest on Yelp. Seeing this rating I definitely wanted to give this restaurant a try. The entrance can be a little confusing as you'll be looking for an escalator to take you downstairs to the restaurant. Once you take the escalator downstairs you'll check in with the host to be seated. I sat in the booths off to the right by the kitchen, which all had plugs underneath the table (in case you need to have a working lunch). The restaurant is very nice and feels like you are in a restaurant in New Orleans. When the server arrived I ordered the Shrimp & Scallop Orecchiette Pasta which came with shrimp, scallops, lump crab, pasta, asparagus, and a creamy parmesan vodka sauce. Btw there is a piece of garlic bread on the side just in case you are thinking about ordering the garlic bread appetizer. The pasta was excellent, had plenty of seafood, and the sauce made everything taste better. For dessert I ordered the key lime pie which came with graham cracker pecan crust. Love Pappadeaux and this location didn't disappoint. Keairra was wonderful at the bar. After going down the escalator, the restaurant comes into view and it's got that charm all Pappadeauxs have. Big bar area with plenty of seating and Keairra specifically asks for a name to address you throughout the meal. Got the red fish with spinach vs dirty rice and y'all, if I could lick the plate I would have. It was delicious! Glass of wine paired nicely and almost missed my flight I was enjoying so much! Excellent New Orleans Cajun food! The Crawfish Etouffee plus sausage, sub dirty rice was awesome! Their special limited time Guava Banana Mai Tai was amazing addictive! They also have Blue Moon beer in bottles. You can enter via a hidden elevator around Gate 25 or via the main escalators around Gate 24. There seems to always be space at the bar counter. 2.5 Stars! I stopped by Pappadeaux at DFW, near Gate 24, hoping for a good meal. I'll give them credit for the speed of service - my food arrived very quickly. Unfortunately, the quality was severely lacking. The gumbo was disappointingly watery, and the fried calamari was both overcooked and definitely not worth the price.($24). I visited Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen for an early lunch on a Sunday as I was heading back to Memphis. I sat at the bar, and the bartender was very friendly and attentive. Since they don't serve alcohol until noon, I ordered a Coke Zero, but it tasted off from the fountain, so I switched to ginger ale. I went for the small fried shrimp platter, which surprisingly looked huge! It came with about six or eight shrimp and an incredibly hearty tartar sauce. The portion of fries was generous, so even the small platter is more than enough if you're looking for a lot of food. I have been to Pappadeaux several times while in Texas. The fact that this gem of a restaurant is located in terminal A at DFW is amazing and made my day! There was a 5 minute wait for a table and once I was seated I was immediately greeted by my server Carlos. He asked if I had time constraints which I greatly appreciated given my flight time. He was friendly, attentive, gave great suggestions and continued to check in throughout my meal. Service here is top notch! Next, the food. All I can say is YUM! I ordered the special, a 10 oz sea bass entree topped with lump crab and cheese. It's served on sautéed spinach with cherry tomatoes & covered in beurre blanc. Everything was fresh and beyond delicious! I then happened to peer over at another table and saw a heaping pile of fried mozzarella sticks and immediately felt the urge to order. I am from WI after all! I used restraint and decided to pass as I truly only wanted 1-2 sticks although it had me wishing I was not dining solo so I could've ordered it and shared. I wish this restaurant would sell it by the half order as I would've 100% partaken in all that melty cheesey glory. I have been dreaming about Pappadeaux for at least a few years since my last visit to the one in Phoenix years ago, and I finally got to scratch that itch by flying American Airlines and having a 3 hour layover at DFW. Pappadeaux is in Terminal A along with other great restaurants - but when Pappadeaux is accessible, everything else just fades away (including Saltlick BBQ - which I absolutely love!) If I were picking my last meal on this earth, the first item on that list would be Pappadeaux blackened shrimp & crawfish fondeaux! ($26.99) It is everything you could hope it would be and as I said, I've been dreaming about it for years! It comes with garlic French bread and if you haven't ever had it, we'll I'm just plain sorry - but if you get the chance, by all means, scratch this off your bucket list! Another one of my favorites here is the bacon wrapped shrimp brochette ($40.95) which is Grilled bacon wrapped shrimp filled with Monterey Jack cheese & a sliver of jalapeño, dirty rice - and is also a little slice of heaven. Pappadeaux is nestled away, speakeasy style down some stairs in terminal A. The inside of this restaurant makes you forget that you are at the airport and is a great place to comfortably hang out if they aren't busy. Insider note: If you are at one of the tables with a lamp on it, there is a plug on the wall under the table for you to charge your phone or plug in your laptop) I will always come here whenever I am passing through and have enough time! Probably the best meal I've had in an airport. Pappadeaux is in DFW in a few spots, with the main place being under heavy construction. To get to it, you have to take a sketchy elevator and end up straight in the restaurant with no view of the terminal. Weird stuff all around. Sat at the bar where service was a bit slow but friendly at least. Got an old fashioned, which was solid, after they were missing the ingredients for another cocktail. Pretty damned big too. Skipped the apps and got the grouper which is one of my favorite fishes. It came with shrimp and crab in a lemon butter sauce. Really fresh and well prepared, and a huge portion. Some shrimp were a bit overcooked however otherwise fine, and the crab wasn't plentiful but it was enough to have an impact. The honey roasted carrots and pistachios with it were interesting, however the sweetness didn't really go with the fish. I ate them on their own. Next time would sub out for spinach instead. Will be coming here whenever I'm in DFW with enough time for a connecting flight. Great food in the airport is hard to come by and so many places get it wrong. Dropped by the DFW terminal A location next to gate 25. They are doing construction so you need to take the elevator to floor 1. Been to Pappadeaux a few times and this one is about the same. No complaints on the service or food. Everything was prompt. Still a bit pricey but still good. The crawfish platter was $39. The platter consisted of etoufee, fried crawfish and dirty rice. I stopped into Pappadeaux Seafood Kitchen in Terminal A for dinner before my flight, and it turned out to be a great dining experience. The ambience was nice for an airport restaurant, and the service was great from the moment I walked in. As someone with celiac disease, eating out can often be stressful, but the staff here took my dietary restrictions incredibly seriously. The hostess immediately provided a gluten-free menu, though limited (minus one star), it was helpful, and went a step further by letting me know that the manager would be over shortly to review my options with me. The manager was thorough, attentive, and reassuring, walking me through the safest choices and discussing how they handle cross-contamination in the kitchen. After talking things through, I decided on the grilled salmon chopped salad. The portion was generous, the ingredients fresh, and the flavor absolutely delicious. Paired with a Swamp Thing, which was equally amazing, it ended up being an airport meal to remember. It was so good that I actually forgot to take my usual food photos. Just trust me on this one! Most importantly, I didn't get sick, which speaks volumes about their gluten-free handling and attention to detail.
