So I came here about 10months ago and gave this place a 4 star review but me and my gf went back again excited for some good food but were really disappointed. The ambiance of the place is the same but the quality of the food has gone down a lot and we can tell because we got the same exact things we did last time. This is only my second time here but my gf has been coming for years and stated her disappointment at the downfall of quality. The mushroom swiss burger tasted just like a cheeseburger with lettuce and the mushroom for texture and not flavor. The chicken sandwich was paper thin and again barely any flavor. The fries were the same as usual so still solid on that aspect. Mozzarella bites were good but nothing special which also sucked because they used to be the best i've ever had. The worst part of everything would probably be how everything came to us at like room temp to cold. Barely any cheese pull off the mozzarella bites, not because of lack of cheese but just because they were barely warm. Wanted to give the benefit of the doubt there but our entrees came out exactly the same. Another upsetting factor was probably the lack of service from our server. The place wasn't as busy as usual yet he still barely came to our table. We were sitting there not touching our food waiting for him to come by with a check for probably about 20-25mins where as compared to before we were being checked in on constantly. If the food had not costed $55 without tip it would have been okay but paying that much money for a P.terry's type of experience for a burger, chicken sandwich, appetizer, and a coke is insane. read more

Consistently excellent. For most people that eat here - there is some form of a weekly tradition involved - that's roughly how good Pappas burgers is. I recommend the Crispy Chicken Sandwich, the Greek Salad with chicken (grilled or crispy), the fried pickles, and of course - the traditional burger with a side of peppercorn ranch! It's been several years since my last visit here and I remembered a very good hamburger meal but on the expensive side. Located on Westheimer there is plenty of parking behind the restaurant. Walking in you are greeted by two identical large menu walls and then place your order at the counter. I ordered the Pappas Burger (which is their standard no cheese, no frills lowest priced burger) that comes with fries for $14.35 and added an ice tea for $2.75 to drink. I then took my order slip, filled my tea glass and went to find a table. My waiter then arrived and took my order slip, reviewed the order with me and then left to have my order filled. My food arrived in about 5 minutes (see pics). The burger patty was slightly over 1/2 lb. and dressed on a large bun. It was very good and filling. I enjoyed it as it was a quality burger. The homemade fries had skin on them and were hot and fresh. This meal was one that I believe most people would thoroughly enjoy. So why do I only give 3 stars? Honestly, I should give less. With tax and tip, my total cost was $22. For a burger, fries and an ice tea. Remember, I ordered their cheapest burger. Some of the more fancier specialty burgers (that most people would order) were about $2 more. If you want a milkshake add about another $2 on top of that if you don't also get a soft drink/tea. If you do, add another $5. And then don't forget to tip your waiter for picking up your order slip from where you ordered at the counter, bring you your food, refill your drink glass after you initially filled it and ask you during the meal if you are enjoying your food... On my last visit several years ago, I remembered this same meal eating up a $20 bill. Today it takes about 10% more than that. Yes the food is very good but I know many places in town where I can get an equally good burger meal for less than half the cost. I guess it will be several years again before I return or maybe I have finally learned my lesson. read more

The burgers were pretty solid. If I could stop here I'd give this place 4.5 stars. The rest of the food was not bad but didn't shine in any way. We only took a few sips of the shakes. Tasted like they were from sonic. The service was wonky. You check in first and tell some one what your order is. If you think that starts your order and that means you would be able to get your food faster then you'd be wrong. You then have to wait for a table then someone will come read out your order to you again. And then they will put the order in. So I'm not sure what the purpose of the first interaction was. It has been 15 years since I moved away from H-Town. When my kids were little we used to take them to Pappas Burger for a treat. It was good then and its still good now. All four of us ordered burgers that by the end of the meal were finished down to a bare plate. I had the Lucy Juicy. An American cheese stuffed burger with grilled onions, pimento cheese, bacon jam, all topped off with an egg. Healthy? No. Good absolutely. Service is spectacular, and even if the burger prices are higher then others the experience is always topped notch. I cant wait for another return. read more

We had a fantastic evening at Pappa's Burgers. The food servings are very generous. We ordered two burgers which come with fries or onion rings. We could have split one burger and fries. The staff were helpful and really responsive to us. If you've never been, you order at the counter, sit, and wait staff come to check your order and help make sure you are good to go. They bring refills and suggestions for making our food experience better. You pay them when you leave- not when you order so you can add dessert. We didn't, but will in the future. The place was nice. It reminded us of an old Pizza Hut that was converted into a diner. The music was low enough to talk, but still hear. There are TVs so you can watch sports. read more

These onion rings are off the chain- Theg are not too thick where you are bitting into a lot of batter and not to thin where you can't enjoy the onion. I love The seasoning it has a lite spiciness to it. GREAT!!!! I could have just ordered the rings. It's like they literally melt in your mouth. I ate 6-8 rings before I bit into my burger. At first I was thinking how do I pick it up. Then I said , "self just go for it". The burger was so juicy that I felt juices escaping out the back side of my burger each time I bit into it. Never been a fan of ordering at a counter to then have a server reverify at the table before placing the order. Maybe the idea is to pre-throw burgers on the grill I guess? A couple places in San Antonio do the same thing. Every place the experience is the same and always feels off. The burger was juicy the bread was lacking and for the price it didn't give enough attention to return right away. The server we did have was nice and great. I wish I remembered his name. Mid 20s guy skinny with brown short hair. Suggestions- I'd like to taste some more flavor in the fresh buns. They were soft but they reminded me of eating bread on my ship in the Navy. Basic and lacking flavor. Maybe like a butter brush and lightly toasted would be great? But the burger is pretty greasy/buttering so might overwhelm it. Maybe a sesame seed bun? Description on the menu isa bit misleading. It states onion rings on the side of the burger. It should state fried onions as an ingredient of the burger. TOTALLY DIFFERENT. Let me start off by saying I hadn't understood the appeal in a burger until I came here. Yes, I have eaten a many a burger but they all generally taste the same: oily, bland and/ or salty, monotonous. The mushroom Swiss burger was so juicy and so flavorful! They really pack in those toppings and I was not mad about that. Thick cuts of perfectly carmelized onions and juicy whole mushrooms. And the bread they used wasn't those stupid, super thick and cakey buns. It was a nice supple, soft bun that you could mash down with your hands and really get a good bite out of. The burger patty itself was seasoned perfectly and tasted fresh. Their portions are huge so I can see why they price it the way they do. I was able to get 2 very filling meals out of my combo. The blue cheese burger was so good too! You would think the blue cheese would overpower the whole burger but it actually compliments it and the toppings they added. Visited Pappas on Saturday and really enjoyed it. Started with the crispy pickles (which also had fried jalapeños!). I am not the biggest fan of burgers, so I had the Buffalo bites. They had a rich sauce and were very fresh. The green Chile burger was a hit at my table. Only complaint from my crowd was that the burger patty itself wasn't well seasoned, and needed something more. The service concept is very strange there. You order at the counter, and they give you your check, but you don't pay until the end. In the meantime, there are servers that come around and check on you. I feel like at this point they should eliminate the counter ordering concept entirely. read more

This used to be our place to go for a great burger. We went tonight and found the burger to be quite littered with small pieces of gristle. When I came home, I looked on the site and it said that the burgers are made with the trimmings from the steak restaurant (next door). This may have been done in the past, but if it was, they were using better trimmings. I don't think I will be ordering a burger here anymore. It is a real shame. The first of my Pappa's Restaurant adventures, I came here for lunch right from the airport. The ambiance was nice with tables, booths and bar seating. I sat at the bar to watch some TV while I waited for my food. I got the Juicy Lucy with bacon on it. It was really a tasty, messy sandwich. The fries were also tasty and paired well with the dipping sauces I got. The service was good with the waiter being friendly and engaging me in conversation. I wanted a milk shake but there was no way I was going to be able to have that.. I was stuffed. This place is awesome for lunch but I can see it being a nice place for dinner as well. The burger had NO flavor! On top of that, they asked if wanted everything on it, I had said yes, but it turned out they didn't put ketchup, mustard, or mayo in my burger. Huh?! Didn't I say EVERYTHING? I still don't understand the purpose of having waiters in a burger joint. First of, we had to fill our own drinks initially, and then the waiters walked around to check to see what was printed out on our order was correct? Like McDonalds, just call my number or buzz me and I'll go get my own burger/fries tray. I can walk up and refill my own drink. My friend and I came I here for a quick bite to eat. It was my first time so I was interested to see the menu options. It is a bit pricey in my opinion , however, my friend informed me that they use the same meat to make the burgers here that they present at the Pappas Steakhouse. So I presume you're getting some A1 meat *shrugs* it took a few minutes for a food. While we waited I like how we were offered complimentary drinks (not sure if it's a norm) . that was nice to me because you don't see that at restaurants. I loved my shake even though I wish there was more cookies pieces in it. The fries were a bit soggy too which was odd to me. I didn't eat the sandwich until the next day because I got full off of the fries and shake alone. However, to my surprise the burger was great. Huge, but delicious. It reminded me of the Good Burgers competition "Mondo Burger," with how big the meat was though. It was a meal in its own as well. Maybe if I would've went during normal hours I would give it the full five stars . only because maybe my fries would've been a bit better.
