Every time I visit my hometown I try to find a good place to eat. It's not easy. Not unless you consider McDonald's or Taco Bell good food. Had lunch a couple days ago at Pappas. You walk in and are immediately inhaling cigarette smoke. The smoking section is just to the right of the entrance. (I cannot believe smoking is still allowed in restaurants) You can smell cigarettes in the non-smoking area of course. Ugh. Service was fast and friendly. The menu is huge. The menu is not exclusively Greek, they serve a wide variety of American standards too. I had the Greek lemon rice soup, which was tasty. My pork cutlet sandwich was a bit overcooked, but the fries were fresh and yummy. Jean had a Reuben that she said was okay. She said the coleslaw was very good and made up for the lackluster sandwich. All in all, probably one of the better restaurants in Crown Point. Unfortunately that's not saying much. read more

I come here for breakfast with friends fairly often and always enjoy it. I like Pappas because it has an updated interior that is a good look and is very clean. Food itself is pretty standard, nothing too special but nothing bad at all. I usually order the waffle sampler and that's always a great option. Service is very good, as well, and I've always felt well taken care of when I dine-in. They also have a over 21 section of the restaurant, which sports a bar, and the Bloody Mary's are great. My only suggestion is to add Chicken and Waffles to the breakfast menu, my friends and I always wonder why they haven't yet added it and I'm sure they would nail it! read more

really tried giving them the benefit of the doubt... i ordered door dash on 4th of july because they were one of the only places still open around 2 o'clock, and i know places close early because the holiday. doordash said they were open until 6:45, so i placed an order, it got accepted, and said it was being prepared. drove there to pick up the order, they were closed. i talked to one seemingly nice woman who i thought was going to actually help me get my 40 dollars back, and she told me to cancel my order on my end (which doordash wouldn't refund me for then) and we exchanged numbers to figure it out the next day... didn't really happen. so i've decided to cut my losses and not order here ever again. they also never include au ju with their french dip in online orders. take it out of the doordash menu then. the au ju is like the whole point. read more

There isn't much to say about Pappas other than this is a great little restaurant with a wide range of menu items that are all very good. The service is always great and speedy and you can usually find the Management visiting tables to make sure everything was perfect. Pappas serves breakfast, lunch and dinner and has a huge array of items which include burgers, pasta dishes, steaks, ribs, soups, salads and much more. You say you feel like chicken parmigiana or maybe some perch? Well they have that too. To make things even better they have a full bar with an actual "bar" area where you can come in, grab a snack and just hang out at the bar watching sports. The portions here are on the larger side and the prices are very reasonable. Don't be misled in thinking that there would be much food or very good quality for the price, you will be sorely mistaken. The food here is home made quality and this is really a mom and pop restaurant. Stop in and try the flaming saganaki for your lunch or dinner to start off your meal. I'm giving this restaurant only 2 stars because of the noise factor. Recently had breakfast with family and two others visiting. You could absolutely not carry on a conversation in this restaurant. Ever since they remodeled, and now have open ceilings, it is noisy. The carpeting in the main room didn't help much at all. They need buffers on the wall also. Very noisy restaurant. Went there to eat last night and left without being seated. Walking through the front door we were almost overrun by screaming, running kids. The main area was extremely noisy, beyond typical dining area chatter. So we asked to be seated on the other side where we've eaten before. Got a can't do that, all the while kids still screaming. I have been back, I was kinda harsh in my first review. I will have to try lemon rice soup again but have been here after the remodel. It is such an improvement. Came here 2018 and will be this year for a reunion. I am happy with the service and I do not have any complaints about the food. My friend insisted I had to try this place. I don't see what is so special about this place, unless it's the fact that if you order one of their cholesterol plates you get a pile of quasi food for not a lot of money. My dish was bland- totally tasteless. It was suppose to come with limes, I was told they had no limes - ?? really. They also over calculated the tip on the receipt- so watch it. Well...it's a shame that customer service is so poor during these times!! Pappas has officially lost a frequent customer. I placed an online order and chose a "Special" menu item for dinner. After driving 30 minutes, placing contact info online, I arrive to Pappas only to be told..."I don't know if they emailed you, but we don't have the menu item you've selected." What?????? Checked the email- no notice...still waiting on my refund one hour later. I can't believe no one and I mean no one could contact me and say that menu item is unavailable or to change the online menu to match what the restaurant is offering that day. I just moved to this area, and happened to see this while shopping at the Jewel. Family came in from out of town, so I decided to give this place a try. The server recommended the Greek Skirt Steak dinner, so I decided to give it a try. It was VERY good. It's a pretty good size of meat that has been marinaded in Greek seasonings. They give you a large side of the marinade so you can dip your steak as you eat. Each meal comes with a soup, salad, bread & crackers, entree, and dessert. The prices seem to be very affordable for what you get. I had the Lemon Rice soup, salad with Garlic dressing, and ice cream for dessert. Your entree with the Greek steak had Greek potatoes and a vegetable. Highly recommended for first timers. All in all a nice place to eat, with the exception of the Smoking inside. I was floored that you can still smoke indoors in Indiana. read more

Have been here twice now, both times for breakfast. First thing I noticed is a total lack of designated parking spots for the disabled. I think that's been against the law for about 25 years now, if I was to consult the Americans with Disabilities Act. For shame! Interior is pleasant. Food is served in large portions. Ordered online for curbside pick up. Called restaurant when I arrived, which was about 15 minutes after I placed the order. Waited about 5 minutes after calling for order to come out. I ordered a skirt steak, medium rare. It was well done or over done. Food was also cold. read more

This place is usually good. I ordered food today over the phone. They ended up calling me saying they did not have the one food item I ordered. I got the chicken pita instead and they asked a couple more questions about the meal we ordered. We ended up getting the food and coming home with no entrees. We called and they said they would call us back. They never did. We went back to the restaurant about our food and they said " I don't know how we are gonna give you the food if you didn't bring it back" she was telling some lady she told us to Bring the food when she never did. They ended up giving us more of an attitude saying "well i don't know how you didn't get the food when we gave you two bags" and they walked into the back and gave us the missing food. Went there on my husband's birthday for the pastitsio as we had done numerous times. What I was served was a bowl of macaroni and ground beef with hard, cold grated parmesan cheese. When I told the waitress that this was wrong, she went back to the kitchen, came back and said to order something else. I ordered the spanakopita, which also was awful - there was no ricotta cheese! The owner came over and said they had new cooks. Why didn't he show them how to make pastitsio!! Never again!! read more

We ordered from here for delivery via her Eats tonight .It had been quite some time since I'd had their signiture Village chicken and Greek roasted potatoes. The last time I'd had them they were excellent, so I was looking forward to having them again. Our food arrived in a bag that had not been stapled or sealed. My chicken was extremely dry and tasteless. The "roasted" potatoes seemed to be slathered in tomato paste with no other seasoning. And they were mushy and wet. I was very disappointed. The only reason I can think of that a restaurant would replace a good cook with a terrible cook is that the good cook quit because he found somewhere better to work. And they had to replace him with someone inferior because they don't pay well or are otherwise bad employers. Or maybe they just did not train the new cook at all and he had no idea how to properly prepare the food. Also a bad practice on the part of the employer. Very mediocre restaurant. The menu was extensive and offered many Authentic entrees. I ordered the Greek Salad. The lettuce was fresh cut. I also ordered an omelette. Not the best omelette I've ever had. Comparable to Denny's. Our service was fast and attentive. The coffees never went empty. New to the area and we wanted to try a new place that was kid friendly but tasty. I'm so glad we found it because the food was amazing and affordable! I ordered the ribs and hubby got a sirloin. My toddler wiped the first kid meal and ordered another! Must have been good.Another thing I liked was the manager you can tell really cared about her buinsess and treated her employees well, as customers we don't see management being so kind often. There is nothing good about this place. It's bad diner food. I had a super bland side salad with clearly store bought dressing options followed by fetucchini alfredo. Who knew fettuccine even had the potential to be bad?! It was, and lacked any kind of flavor. It tasted like they didn't even have salt in the kitchen. My husband got a pita which he couldn't actually eat as a pita because it was so jam packed with melted cheese. Our service was ok, but the server looked stressed and over-worked which made me feel uncomfortable as a customer. The manager/owner went around several times to check on our table, I didn't have to heart to tell him the food was crap. Clearly zero thought was put into the food. Gross spaghetti.. The Mexican cooks in a Greek joint were eating in the kitchen and the place was an hour from closing. 2 bucks for a pop and got 1 refill 3 people dining. The mashed potatoes were instant and the menu called them "Idaho". I think it's best to avoid the place you can smell stale smoke in the air as well. Definitely avoid the meatloaf.. This has to be the worst service I have ever recieved hands down! I will never be returning! Shelly was my waitress and she was rude and nasty tward me and and my mother. First i ordered oat meal for my son when i first got there which then took 20 mins then Our food came out cold. When we asked her to do somthing about it because we were very unhappy all she did was take the oatmeal off and then told us how rude we were and how we need to calm down. Pappas' is such a wonderful small town Greek restaurant! We had dinner there last night and love the beautiful updates--and they're preserving the island ceiling in the entry! My husband is a quirky picky eater so I always appreciate the courtesy of the staff, and last night was no exception. I got to enjoy their amazing lemon rice soup and delicious Greek village chicken, while hubby loved his plain chopped steak and fries, no veggies, hold the straw. :) We remember eating here when the specials were still on index cards--that's how long this place has been a weeknight go-to for us! It was so unfortunate that I chose to come here with my family that I rarely get to see and experience this bad of service. First of all the fact that anytime I needed a refill I had to ask which was even more of hustle since our waitress made little effort to check on us. Overall just godawful service with no remorse from any of the staff. Not to mention my aunt managed to wait 10-15 minutes after the rest of us to get her food which failed to come with dressing that took about 10 MORE minutes to get and at that point everyone was about finished. Ate there about 6 weeks a go for dinner and they were severely understaffed. It took forever for a waitress to come over and when she finally did, we waited nearly 40 minutes for our meal to arrive. Figuring it was just an abnormally busy night, we went there for breakfast this morning and it was worse than last time. The two young kids running the front counter had no clue what was going on and the line was practically out the door just to pay. Again, a waitress didn't come forever and once she did, she rarely came back. Five total meals. All not hot, one came nearly 15 minutes after the others and another was the wrong thing which delayed the right meal coming another 20 minutes later. During all of that, it was clear the waitress was overwhelmed and rarely checked on us. We also had to ask multiple times for extra napkins and condiments. It is clear that the restaurant is understaffed and those who do work there are not trained very well. It's a shame, because overall there food does taste good. read more
