Fantastic passionfruit pisco sour! I could have knocked back a few, it was so tasty! I ordered the lomo saltado and it was tender and flavorful. Would def recommend this! The food at Parada Walnut Creek is good, but the TV experience is extremely frustrating and poorly thought out--especially given how inconsistent it is with their sister restaurant in Lafayette. Despite having TVs visible in the restaurant, Parada Walnut Creek does not show live sports at all. If you come in hoping to enjoy a game while eating or having drinks, don't bother. The TVs are either off or showing non sports programming, even during major sporting events. This is especially disappointing considering the bar seating and layout suggest that watching a game would be an option. What makes this worse is that the Lafayette location (Barranco) DOES show sports on their TVs, creating a confusing and inconsistent customer experience across the brand. Same ownership, similar cuisine, but completely different policies. If Lafayette can balance food and sports viewing, there's no good reason Walnut Creek can't. At a minimum, this should be clearly communicated. Instead, customers are left guessing--or worse, finding out after they've already ordered. Not everyone wants a "quiet, curated dining experience" all the time, and having TVs but refusing to use them for sports just feels out of touch. If you're looking for great Peruvian food and want to watch a game, go to Lafayette. If you're at Parada Walnut Creek, leave your sports expectations at the door. read more

Had a late date night dinner with my better half. Parada is a cozy corner Peruvian restaurant located near Pleasant Hill BART station. We ordered the Empanada Trio, the Lomo Saltado, Pollo a la Brasa and the Alfajores Carlitos for dessert. There are 4 empanada flavors to choose from and we went with the beef, chicken and wild mushroom, passed on the corn cheese flavor. The chicken empanada had tender shredded chicken in it and was by far the best of the 3. The wild mushroom was good but not particularly memorable-- the beef was overly sweetened ground beef, the crust could've been crispier as the pastry was a little under done and soft down the middle. The Lomo Saltado and Pollo a la Brasa were both decent dishes although there was very little beef in the Lomo Saltado and the chicken was under seasoned in the Pollo a la Brasa, I was expecting more flavor for Peruvian food. However, the fries that came with the pollo were well seasoned and crispy. The Alfajores Carlitos were delicious. Overall, the food was fine but if I were comparing it to Lima in Concord, I prefer the flavors of Lima. I think the location, ambience and presentation play a big role in the popularity of Parada more than the actual food; as the restaurant has a warm lively vibe and the service is excellent. The Tacu Tacu side dish the exactly the same, little flavor, but filling. The tiny cup of yellow bland sauce served with the chicken (two tbsp?) was not enough, asked for more just to moisten the dry chicken and was charged $1.50 per tiny cup. There was a brown sauce but have no idea what it was as server put it down & our waiter never came back to ask or check on us. Spring lettuce salad was dismal. I visited parada for the first time. I had a great experience. Though the restaurant itself was full, and loud, it was still a pleasure to be sat down and enjoy the good food. To start off, the food was amazing. flavorful, hot, fresh. No notes of disappointment, I want to eat that food all over again. The waiter was very friendly, quick, and knowledgeable of the restaurants menu and drinks. I appreciate that. but what really set off the night as being a fantastic one, was the host. I believe he said his name was Diego, I hope I'm not wrong. He was immediately welcoming upon entering the restaurant even though they were already packed full. I didn't have a reservation but it was just myself and he made it work and found a comfortable seat for me. Along with the waiter he made sure to do his rounds of checking on the tables. I'm not sure if he was the manager as well but nonetheless throughout the night I decided to catch his attention and tell him how wonderful everything had been. We ended up talking about of many things, but towards the ending of that conversation I was showing so much appreciation for the night I just had. Everything was fantastic but he really made a mark on ensuring my night was pleasurable, so much so that I decided to hop on yelp for once and leave them this review. I've never left a review for any where before, but my experience here, from the good food, good music, friendly vibes, to being able to converse with the staff, it left a positive mark on me and I absolutely can not wait to visit again and enjoy another evening at this fine establishment. Food and drinks were decent. When we got sat the waitress asked if we wanted water. She only gave us two options: sparkling or still. We chose still thinking it would be free. We later found out it was $10 a bottle. When we brought this up to her she stated that the menu showed that tap water was only by request. We ended up paying $60 for water. It felt scammy and calculated. The menu states this but it white print that it difficult to read and only states that "water is served upon request". It did not specify that it was tap water. Came here Saturday morning and was able to get a table for four without waiting in line and without a reservation. Good? Bad? I'll leave that up to your own interpretations. For me, that was a great thing! We had the option of sitting inside or outside and opted for inside but in between the doors for the entrance and the doors for the outside seating. After being seated for two minutes, I noticed how often servers were going outside which made me think I should've gotten a table out there since there are heat lamps and I wouldn't have had to deal with the draft LOL. (Noted for next time). Items ordered: - garlic fries - quinoa salad with chicken [5 stars] garlic fries Absolutely delicious. Perfectly fried so that they were crunchy on the outside and soft on the side. Garlic flavor came through very nicely. My friends and I could not stop eating it. We dig right in and I didn't even take a photo XD. That itself should tell you how good they are. [3 stars] Quinoa salad with chicken added The menu said that they have rotisserie chicken (choice of half or whole) and a side salad as an option. When I asked if I could get a chicken salad, waitress said they don't have anything like that. When I pointed out the option on the menu to do the rotisserie salad with salad, waitress said it was outdated. (It was not because I saw the table behind me get that as an order). Waitress recommended for me to get the quinoa salad with chicken on the side, so I went with that. I asked for it to come with dressing on the side and queso fresco on the side as well. Waitress repeated that back to me. Perfect. Quinoa salad comes out and what do I see? Salad and queso tossed in the vinaigrette (minus one star). There was also not enough quinoa to justify making the dish "quinoa salad". Chicken was also seasoned with some type of spice which waitress did not alert me to (minus one star). I didn't end up eating the chicken because the spices were weird to me. Switched with my friend who got the fish of the day (swordfish) which was amazing and cooked perfectly to the point where it was melting in my mouth and not tough to eat at all. Will I come here again? Most likely. Will I order their ceviche (which is what they're known for) instead? Yes. Service was attentive in terms of checking in on drinks and water refills. The food here was really similar to The Voya which used to be in Mountain View and is now unfortunately closed. The pictures are the best examples of the colors and flavors provided here. The Ceviche was perfect. I had the trio as my lunch entree' along with a Papaya/Orange drink which seemed to be pure fruit with no added sugar. Scallops ordered by my co-worker were a win but the fried chicken and avocado was good but rich. Setting is very nice and the server was excellent. We had some friends in town and thought this would be a nice place to go. We made a reservation for 4 online via OpenTable. There weren't any indoor seats available online but when we got there, they gave us an indoor table. All the outdoor tables were taken, probably because they had a live musician that night. The indoor ambiance was beautiful. The decor was full of personality but subtle. There was a little bar and a part of the kitchen was open. We ordered the Salmon Entree and the seafood paella (not called paella on the menu). Both were good and portions were large. My husband finished his salmon dish and I got through about half of the paella. He had some of it and we took the rest home. I felt like my paella was missing something but I couldn't put my finger on it. For dessert we had the panna cotta which was very tasty. Overall, I thought the food was good and the ambiance was lovely. It was a little on the expensive side but worth it for a nice night out. Deadpool was playing on the tv above the bar which was pretty distracting for me (ADHD) but otherwise it was a great night with great food. Parking: There are two parking garages under the attached apartment buildings that are public use. The limit is 2 hours. There is also street parking with a 2 hour limit as well. read more

Excellent cook, everything was flavorful & well prepared and served at the appropriate temperatures. This is our second time here in two months and both outings were 5 star. The server was also terrific and helpful. The menu has a lot of interesting dishes. The only concerns were that the temperature in the restaurant is somewhat cool and the enclosed patio can be quite cool if you don't sit under a heater. We ordered an assortment of drinks and appetizers, plus some entrées, and shared the food family style. In order of preference, here's my list of what I'd get again. -- Pork belly anticucho ($19): this Peruvian street food was hands down my favorite - two skewers with three hunks of pork belly each, served with a roasted potato and creamy aji amarillo. -- Beef empanada ($20 for a trio): a close second to the anticucho, perfectly seasoned and baked. -- Cebiche tasting ($36): included one bowl each of the fresh fish of the day, ahi tuna, and mixed seafood (calamari, mussels, shrimp). Conversely, don't waste your money on the veg paella, tuna tartare, or pollo a la brasa. I noticed these were barely picked at by the person who ordered them or by others in our group. Just moved here and definitely going to try this place...today I stopped in to have a quick drink while I was waiting for a haircut next door. Strangest thing happened, I gave the young man standing behind the bar a $20 for my $9 dollar beer and he asked me if I want change. I politely said yes please and he turned around walked to the register and then pulled his wallet out with his back towards me, put my $20 in and turned around and handed me a ten. I was going to tip more than a dollar but whatever. Now either he is the 20 year old owner that keeps the til in his wallet or he is padding his pay. We went on a Tuesday night and there were two work parties going in the adjoining room. Our server warned us that our orders would take an extra 20 minutes because of the two on-going parties. The ambiance was so loud that my wife and I were having a hard time hearing one another. Parking near the restaurant is almost impossible. Expect a long walk to get to the restaurant. Ordered for delivery, and talked up the papa a la huancaina to my friend, got two orders because it's too good to share. Papas arrived with *no sauce,* BOTH orders. So all we got for $16 apiece were plain boiled potatoes w/ bacon bits on the side. Why would Parada do us like that??? As delivery clients, of course you have zero control over what you get and can only report it to Doordash, which I did, and got an $8 credit for the missing sauce, so in the end we paid $24 for two dishes we didn't even eat because the sauce really does make the dish in this case. We didn't receive our $12 order of grilled asparagus, either, and I didn't even report it to Doordash because we were so broken up about the papas that I didn't think of it! I have an obsession with Plantain and that's what initially led me to find this place. I'm so glad I did - great ambience, good music and tasty food. I had the salmon and plantain - both SUPER tasty.
