Went in expecting a regular tiki bar and I was in for a surprise. It starts from when you enter the place where the host greeted us after we rang the doorbell. Walking down the hallway to ominous music, past the furry door. My party of three went on a Wednesday evening and we were seated right away. The drinks are potent and maximalist! They have little skull signs next to the cocktails on the menu to indicate how strong they are. The server was superb, they had great suggestions and did a shot with us at the end of the night. My favorite was the Beelz's road soda and they explained it as clarified Mai tai. It wasn't too sweet, just perfect in my opinion. They also recommended the Demerara dry float for something that wasn't too sweet. Had to try that too. The shot came with a little g.i.joe type figurine chilling in it. The illustrations on the menu are pretty accurate! We also ordered some grub, the crispy rum spudlets were spectacular- it's crispy tater tots with black garlic caramel. It was flavorful and you can never go wrong with fried potatoes. 10/10 would recommend. Very fun and immersive experience. TLDR: Great experience, thoughtful atmosphere, and intentional flavors in food and drinks. I'll try not to spoil too much, but there are many creative design choices that make for a unique experience. Many items on the menu have ingredients that don't seem to pair well, but the items I tried were unique and delicious. The tater tots with caramel were some of the tastiest that I've had. A hidden speakeasy that my group and I missed the first time we passed by the door. Once inside, you're transported to a dark, grungy atmosphere with a tunnel covered in fake greenery. We came on a Sunday at 8 PM with a group of 8 and were seated right next to a loud group--wish the hostess had given us a bit more space for better conversation. *Lesser Key Martini $20 | 4/10: Interesting ingredients on paper but didn't deliver. After having some great martinis over the weekend, this was a letdown. Cute presentation, though. *Piña Colada $20 | 6.5/10: More spirit-forward than other piña coladas I've had. If you're expecting the typical sweet & masked alcohol taste, this isn't it. Good presentation. *Tarman $28 | 7/10: Ordered this because it was rated 5/5 on the strength scale, but surprisingly, it tasted the weakest of the three drinks. Not worth the price, but interesting to try once. *Abyss Bowl $130 | 7/10: Fun presentation and show, but the drink itself is just fine. If we're factoring in price, it should be closer to $100 for what you actually get. Good for the experience, but not worth the price. The first server was great, but hard to flag down at times. Later, a different server took over, and I couldn't get their attention for 10 minutes despite waving. Even after standing near the payment area for 3 minutes, I was completely ignored--only for them to go to my table and drop the bill instead. Service is seriously lacking. I was also charged 20% auto-gratuity since I was a party of 8. It seems like they took advantage of this and gave bad service. Cool concept, but not my vibe. This is one of the coolest tiki bars I have been to. Absolutely amazing craft cocktails that are some of the tiki traditional and also a large number of unique creations that are unique to this establishment. I suggest talking to the bartender as they will helped Taylor the right cocktail to ones pallet. I love the decor here is so fun!!! You have to check out the bathrooms so cool!!! I've been looking for a go to tiki bar in the city and this was on the list to check out. I'm not a big fan of the devil/demon/punk theming but if the bars namesake comes from the literary work of the same name, the theming is on the nose. The tiki drinks we did have were unfortunately disappointing considering it's a tiki bar and the prices associated with said drinks. The appetizers we had tasted good, and our server was attentive and courteous to accommodate any allergies or issues. Overall I wouldn't recommend this place for anyone looking for a tiki bar experience but as a Halloween/Punk fan this place might be up your alley. read more

A review I do not want to make, but I will. This place never misses. I've been here so many times that the bartenders already know me and my best friends order. We are always greeted by the door and only a handful of times had to use the standing tabes, which aren't bad, but we have the option to switch to the bar if it open. The bar, the kitchen and the servers are all great. I've tried the Krab Rangoon, Musubi, Nashville Hot Chicken Fingers, and sandwich, and the sticky ribs. Anytime we've ordered the food is fresh, hot and delicious, perfect to go with any drink on the menu. My go to suggestions are anything on the menu lol. Oh and the entire place is decorated like a pirates ship, ship wreck with really dope decorations and lights. The alcohol taste was so strong despite being only two skulls (skulls represent strength). I should've known since it was a martini. Paradise Lost was a real surprise. Decided to come here one night as a last minute decision, and I was so glad I did. The entrance is really cool. You're greeted by a host, and then you pass through a long hallway to the main entrance. You enter a bar that's dimly lit, lights along the ceiling, cool Halloween-ish decor. Any fan of spooky season will want to come here. It definitely has Halloween vibes. Drinks are ranked by how strong they are, indicated by the skull icons. Prepare to be amazed by the presentation here. Every drink is beautifully crafted in a cool sort of tiki glass. Some drinks I had that evening include the Lady of the Beasts and Saturn. The drinks are deceptively strong by the way, so you want to take it easy. I really enjoyed the drinks, which tend to sway on a more sweeter side but not disgustingly so. I usually avoid tiki drinks at most bars, but the drinks here are top notch and crafted with care. The presentation really goes a long way. I really liked this place and would definitely return. This place is already popular online in both the tiki bar community and immersive bar/restaurant scene, so I had to check it out. I came with a friend around 5:30 and had no problem sitting down + telling the server the preference of where to sit. Loved everything in the set design and the respectful nods to tiki culture + replacing it with the occult (including some fun surprises in the br stalls). The drinks are pricier than other tiki bars but in terms of east village prices and space, it's more. Maybe about equal space (a tiny bit smaller) than beetle house next door. I preferred the arched area more as the seats let to more open space for people and out into the general view of everyone, which added to the fun. Now that I have liver sensitivity, I look for good virgin drinks and needed to try the one with pandan. Very strong pandan flavor! We also got the tots, and i was actually not prepared for how tasty and crispy they were gonna be. Luckily we ate at streecha before and so didn't need to eat too much, but I thought it was a good snack portion size for two. We are frequent flyers at Paradise Lost for several reasons but last night we had a phenomenal experience that I felt I must write about! We were seated at a banquet and within a minute our server stopped by to greet us and begin the experience. We had the absolute pleasure of being served by Brian, who is not only superb at his job but also just such a charismatic person. We typically prefer to sit at the bar but if Brian is there we will undoubtedly sit elsewhere! Last night we were able to try some of their new "seasonal" concoctions, the "3 dots + a dash" is a tiki classic that Paradise Lost does amazingly! We had a late night reservation here for a friend's birthday. It's sort of a speakeasy bar in the sense that the entrance isn't obvious. When you walk up, you have to ring the bell and wait for them to buzz you in. We were seated right away and decided to order one of the shared drinks made for 4. We also got some bites, including tots, mochi, ribs, and Musubi. The drink was fun and the served it with flare (yes, it was on fire). Food was good too. For decent easy bar bites, we were satisfied. Ambiance is really the major sell for this place. I think it's described as a "tropical hellscape" which really fits. A cute new tiki-inspired bar with a twist in the E Village. Paradise Lost has so many wonderful details from the long hallway entrance to the bar above the bar, lights, and even a secret in the bathroom (hint: look for the button). All the drinks are tropical inspired and I loved the look of the rum flight that comes in a little treasure chest. There's a whole folklore story about the bar that they refer to as The Abyss. Food was also very delicious - we had dumplings, ribs, zucchini sticks & more. Staff was so friendly and fun. This opened just in time for Halloween but will def be fun year round. Enjoy! read more

A wonderful and unique NYC speakeasy experience! First of all...love the theme! Basically it's like a fun little tiki bar nestled at the center of the 9th circle of hell haha. The attention to detail is incredible - you'll even hear an interesting recording in the bathroom that adds to the atmosphere. The drinks were incredible and so unique. I got the bottomless pit and the seventh circle swizzle, both of which refreshing and yummy. And of course, the drinks themselves were very instagrammable. For instance the bottomless pit was smoking for about a solid 30 seconds, and my friend got a drink that was set on fire. The food was also so good. My friend and I got the musabi and the spudlets to share. The food was so interesting. The spudlets in particular were a wonderful mix of sweet and savory. As expected from a speakeasy, the entrance can be easy to miss and there is no clear sign. Just look for an interesting insignia and that would be the place to be. You have to ring the door bell outside. The exterior is so mysterious and not very obvious. Which makes it super cool Security opened the door to a hallway, and then you're in paradise lost. There's a super cool vibe in this highly creative bar serving really fun cocktails. The four of us sat for an hour or two admiring the kitchy decor like kids on a movie set where 1950s tiki culture meets 1960s Attack of The 50-foot Woman. Some sweet and spicy drinks were shared along with a mini pyrotechnic show. Even reading the drink descriptions was entertaining. This place is racist. 1. We rang the doorbell multiple times and the host did not open the door. There was no line, it was just us so pretty weird that that they took so long given that the establishment wasn't busy. We were a group of four and all visibly brown. 2. When the hostess asked for my number for the reservation, I made sure to enunciate to reduce possible confusion. After 90 minutes, we checked in again with the host and they said they wrote down the wrong number... 3. Giving them the benefit of the doubt, we still decided to wait. They said a table just finished and they just needed to clean it up. After that, he said we were next/at the top of the list so to just wait for the text. We waited nearly 45 minutes and only came up to the host again because we saw multiple WHITE groups go in to be seated.
