When we arrive, the line was all the way down the street and it was a very hot 85° day on La Jolla Cove. Even with the ocean breeze, it was a baking day. By the time we got to the line after finding parking, which was very packed, but bearable, the line had died down to about 15 people. I appreciated that while we were in line they had a nice young lady outside giving samples of the featured flavor called sunrise, which was delicious. It was like orange pineapple, and it was really good. One of the gelato servers came out to the line and got us from the middle back of the line and said he would be ready to serve us and so we took that as a really good excellent customer service practice. He could tell that the others in front of us we're going to get served shortly by his counterparts within the store so he grabbed the people near the back of the line to get us to get our gelato sooner. The four of us each chose what we wanted and I will tell you that the flavors were absolutely delicious. I chose the non dairy / vegan Coconut Coffee Flavor Gelato, and also another flavor. It was AMAZINGLY creamy and the waffle cone was perfectly sweet! Everyone enjoyed their gelato and we really appreciated this place. Apparently they are comparable to authentic Italian gelato...like, in Italy! Overall, I highly recommend this place. They have other locations, and I think that they are growing their brand throughout San Diego. Yummy!

She did apologize but said other people are waiting. I ordered another juice and was going to order sandwiches and acai bowls but felt like we probably were at cafe more than an hour and out stayed our stay. I understand as a business you have to be strict about the bathroom and that is their policy however if it is a juice/coffee place your customers are bound to use the restroom several times especially if they are continuing to order. Unfortunately, It did turn me away to try the food which I actually was looking forward to as they did offer organic croissant sandwiches. We decided to just choose another place to order food. 'Gateau' is french for cake and Aileen is someone's name. I ordered a slice togo. The female staff behind the counter was helpful and friendly. The display case also had macarons and lots of other enticing desserts, and a small shelf of wines and sparkling wines. With excitement and anticipation, I headed home immediately and plated my slice on my fancy porcelain dish. After the first bite, I was shocked with disappointment to realized this is NOT the one, Not even close to other versions I've had. Apparently, this cake looked better than it tasted, and it tasted horribly bad, possibly the cake passed its expiration date, because ups on closer inspections, the strawberries on top looked over ripen. Good thing I didn't order a whole cake, but I hate spending any $$ on anything I can't enjoy. Perhaps is was just an off day at this bakery. But that cookie butter flavor was always right behind the initial taste. Very sweet. Honey Lavender Fields was my favorite. It was very balanced and smooth. I really appreciated that the lavender was not overpowering I also got their $5 cookies. Those were also good. I tried the confetti, snickerdoodle, and double chocolate. I enjoyed them all.
