So disappointing. We've been coming here for years, and we're willing to give the new owners a good chance. But the place has been going steadily downhill over the past two years in particular. We used to love the rolls that came with the salads, but both the salads and the rolls disappeared. And now they don't have any bread left. The bread pudding used to be the absolute best ever, and now it's totally different, very boring, too sweet, and dry. They had the best biscotti... again, those are gone too. The sandwiches used to be quite good, but today our "pesto paninis" didn't have any pesto on them, and the bread is nowhere near as good as the focaccia they used to use. We are now looking for a new favorite bakery to visit, sadly. It's so sad that a place which used to be really special and delicious has declined so much. I guess the new owners thought this would make them more profitable? But they have completely lost us as customers. read more

i've been going to Paris Bakery for years. The original owner was Algerian French from Paris pastries were outstanding. They had a new owner over the last two years. The number of clientele has diminished market and so has the quality of the pastries. They're almost inedible. Stopped here for a quick breakfast and it was really enjoyable. They actually had a line out the door of people waiting to order, but they got to everyone pretty quickly. They had some menu outside before you walk in and also some choices on the wall but I think because it was busy, I couldn't see everything they had in the case. I got the breakfast croissant with ham and it was decent with chopped up pieces of ham. I also got a regular coffee which was good and refillable. Small, in Monterey, off Washington. Excellent Onion Soup and breads. Delicious cakes. The largest sweet rolls and reasonably priced. Bagels and egg sandwiches. A lot of locals eat here. I was passing through town and stopped in for a quick pick me up. This is a small bakery in downtown. It was pretty busy when we stopped in around midday. The inside had a few tables inside and a couple outside. There was a large counter top/ case with various pastries for sale. Standard bakery set up. The staff were pleasant but a little disorganized. Didn't help the staff that was really not line up direction, just kinda mass of patrons. Need a little more structure to help the staff address customers. We were handled off but then the original person needed to come back and finish with us. I tried the apple turnover, blueberry scone, and almond croissant. Turnover was tasty but could use more filling. Blueberry scone was not dry (thankfully), excellent. The almond croissant was felt more like a Danish than croissant but good almond filling. All in all solid. We did not get any drinks. We got 5 pastries so we got a discount, 5 for $30. Feels steep but OK in this economy. Overall, I enjoyed my experience and what I tried. Felt incredibly weird walking into Paris Bakery when it was in fact not Paris Bakery. If you're going to rip out the soul of the place, not have any of the old employees (including the ones literally from France), increase your prices, and lower the quality of the food, please re-name it... and not capitalize on the name for the sake of trying to draw in the old customer base. Just because you brought in a swing a round iPad, added fake marble tables, and offered that fake, friendly attitude, doesn't mean you can trick us into believing your sub-par, incredibly expensive cappuccino is worth it. read more

This is a wonderful places for coffee, pasties, pies, and cakes. As well as lunch sandwiches and other specialties. The service is prompt and on a "when you're ready to order" style...even though there might be a line. The venue is small but efficient and there are some outdoor dining options. Paris Bakery under the old ownership was so wonderful when you walked in. Like in Europe, selections were plentiful, beautiful and yes like Art pieces. no matter your mood, it made you happy. But now under the new ownership, it lost its charm, the beautiful and plentiful presentation and selections. Of the three things I have always ordered, they either stopped making it or ran out with no intention of making more. It use to be that most things were available throughout the except for the last hour snd customers were plentful. Paris bakery cafe used to be decent a few years ago but over the years it has gotten worse. The baked goods aren't fresh, the baristas can't make a proper cappuccino. They are super slow. The servers have difficulty taking a simple coffee order. Despite the low quality the prices are high. Very disappointing. I prefer Captain and Stoker. The baristas are fast and make fantastic coffee. Their pastries are fresh and everything is high quality. I suggest the owner of Paris bakery go check how Captain and Stoker does things and learn. Oh, Paris Bakery...how much we miss you! Under the previous owners, Paris Bakery was once an esteemed local favorite that was a gem in the Monterey Peninsula. My family has patronized this establishment for over 30 years, beginning with my great-grandparents. It was a great spot to grab lunch on the go, preorder specialty foods, or sit and chat with a friend. The food was quickly made, easy, and moderately priced (for our area anyway). Now, there are new owners. I can empathize and understand the issue of food waste and mitigating cost issues for their business. I'm sure it wasn't an easy thing to decide on. However, the issues faced with this business recently have been too great to overlook. What was once a bustling, time capsule of a cafe is now an overly-gentrified and lackluster replacement. The prices are jacked MUCH higher, and the majority of all food has been removed, including a complete remodel of their glass cases (which added to the allure of their baked goods). The uncleanliness is another factor. Alma has always been knowledgeable and wonderful, but the other manager (I presume manager, perhaps supervisor) with an accent and brunette hair, has always had a snippy attitude with sour service. We have always ordered their pizza dough and never had an issue with it in the past. The last three times we ordered it, it was discolored and smelled off (thus why we made sure it wasn't a fluke). We wrote our name and number to preorder some recently, and when we came to pick it up, the same manager said it was "discontinued." What? They could have had the decency to call us, seeing as they had our information. This weekend was our final visit to Paris Bakery, as our entire family will be sadly boycotting them. It just isn't what it used to be, and we mournfully accept that. To the new owners, I don't mean to put down your work, simply to make you aware of how important this place is to the locals (which makes for a good chunk of your business I'm sure). Now, it just caters to the tourists and blends in, when it used to stand out. I can see my opinion is shared with other regular customers on here. I had a day trip to Monterey and decided to stop by here for breakfast. As I first walked in, I was amazed at how much pastries there were and I couldn't wait to feast on it. However, because the doors are open it allows flies to come in and I saw a fly on the open croissant basket on top of the display. I decided to go for the quiche and calamari sandwich that were in a separate display. The service is fast and they reheated my quiche and I got it in no time. The quiche tasted very good and it was the perfect size. As for the calamari sandwich, it was quite expensive for half a sandwich.. but nonetheless ir tasted good. read more

Being 2 people who just moved to Pacific Grove and know nothing in this area we went to Google and this little bakery is top rated on there so we decided to try it out. No regrets. I had never had an almond croissant before and it completely blew me away.
