We stopped by for dinner last week for some French inspired fare and they have the most cozy, comforting, and fall-coded food! I adore their flavorful classic flatbread and their version of French onion soup. Their fries are twice cooked to perfection so they're crispy and some of my favorite fries in Pittsburgh! I went here for an early dinner the other night after visiting the zoo. The service was excellent, and the ambience of the small restaurant was nice. If you have children in your group when dining here, be prepared as there is no children's menu. The best bet is to order them an adult burger. The macaroni and cheese is pre-prepared with a spicy cheese that was not appreciated by the child at my table. There is a decent beer list and you can't go wrong with some of these Belgian classics. The real draw to this locale is the mussles and french fries, apparently. They come with crusty bread and plenty of broth for dipping. read more

This was such a good place for an intimate girls outing or date night! I came here after work with a friend and everything was delicious! We shared the poutine and it was warm, crispy and gooey! Another amazing meal here! So sad they will be closing in a few months. I live in Highland Park and can walk to there. But I guess we should be happy that Point Brugge is still be an option. Anyway their mussels are amazing! Along with the french fries. Also like their burger and mac & cheese. The service is always wonderful. Even though they don't take reservations the place is decent size so the wait isn't ridiculous - as it can be at Point Brugge which is much smaller. First time trying this neighborhood fav. I see mixed reviews here I have to agree - the food was amazing but the service was not there. We arrived around 6 on Sunday, not crowded at all but we weren't served water or checked by anyone 20 min later after we were seated. When the waitress finally checked on us and gave some water, she was pretty impatient and seemed to be annoyed. And then I saw her smiling and happily serving other tables, so that made me uncomfortable and disappointed. The food, on the other hand, were all amazing. We got the mezze plate for starters, huge portion and very delicious. Then for entrees, we had the small portion of mussel in tomato/pumpkin sauce (1lb, no frites), the fall salad with blue cheese and squash, the steak and frites. This was a "pleasant oops." My intent had been to go to Point Bruges, but when I was asked, "Okay, where are we going?" I did my search again (on Yelp, of course), and Park Bruges kept coming up first in the search results, so I inadvertently directed us there. But later, when our local friend arrived, she said this was probably a better choice for that time of day, because Point, while equally good (and higher rated it seems) is smaller and tougher to get in quickly. But no worries, the food, service, and ambiance were worth it. I'm fine with anything Belgian as long as it has things like moules, frites, cheeses, and beers, and all were options here. I got my Belgian beer fix (a quadrupel!!) as well as a nice chocolate stout from not-too-distant Troegs from Hershey. The four onion soup was terrific. I went with the chaud chevre salad which had roasted tomatoes and warm goat cheese only because I wasn't hungry enough to justify moules or frites (good thing too, because the portions for the items my dining companions ordered were enough for a second meal each). I was so incredibly disappointed with my experience. If it was food alone I would have given 4 or maybe even 5 stars. But the complete lack of service was unacceptable. I walked in around 1:30. The bar tender saw me, two of some sort of other staff saw me. They didn't acknowledge me or offer to seat me. So I asked if I should seat myself and then I was told "oh someone will be right with you" I was seated but wasn't given a menu or water. Eventually one glass of water was sent over (when all the other tablets had the bottles to allow refills). I knew what I wanted so I flagged someone down to order. I chose the smaller portion of the green curry mussels. They were initially served without bread "because we're baking more and it will be ready soon". They did eventually bring a bottle of water and the bread. The mussels were delicious. The broth flavorful and had a little kick to it. I really enjoyed the food but the server would never know that because they didn't check to see what I thought or to see if I needed anything. The worst, though was I asked where the bathroom was. My purse and keys were still at the table. I had bread, fries and some mussels left. I hadn't paid the bill. I was only gone 2-3 minutes. But I came back to a completed cleared table. There were plenty of other tables so it wasn't like they needed to rush me out. When I walked back a younger guy (this one who eventually brought me the one glass of water) said "oh I thought you left." No apology, no offer to maybe bring me more water or something to replace the food that was thrown out. Where was that expedient service when I was actually needing it? Went back here for dinner on a Saturday night in late summer. Beautiful place to sit outside for the evening and their outdoor seating has grown during Covid. Quiet street, quick and friendly service. We started off with the buffalo cauliflower bites appetizer, which was excellent! The cauliflower was definitely fully fried but only thinly breaded. Came with a strong and spicy sauce, blue cheese crumbles, and a small bed of greens. My wife and our friend both got the bowl of mussels. I think this is the restaurant's signature dish and it did not disappoint! The bowl is large and the fries (if you choose to get them alongside) are thin and crispy. The cool thing is that you can get a few different sauces for the mussels. My wife got the classic white wine sauce and our friend got a spicier and slightly heavier red sauce with chorizo. I am not as adventurous and just stuck with the Bruges Buger, which was also great. Thick, topped with bacon, pickles, and a mayo type sauce, so it had lots of flavor. I'm sad to say I was disappointed in our most recent trip to Park Bruges. I have eaten dinner there many times, and always get the mussels. They really are the best in the city. I love their double fried french fries too...especially dipped in the white wine and garlic sauce from the mussels! Yum! My mom and I decided to go for lunch on Saturday around 2 pm. When we got there it was still their brunch menu. I hadn't even thought about that, but always see the brunch photos on Instagram. I wanted to get the mussels, but decided I should try their brunch since I was finally there on a Saturday afternoon. I ordered the brunch prix fixe menu which included an entree, side, and drink. I ordered the smoked salmon eggs benedict, cajun potatoes, and a glass of sparkling rose. Our waiter was friendly, but seemed spaced out. He was very excited to tell us about the specials. My mom ordered an apple and bleu salad with salmon with dressing on the side. Our waiter asked if I wanted champagne that came with the brunch special, but I wanted the sparkling rose. I think there was an upcharge for it. Our food came out looking good! I was surprised that my eggs benedict was on 2 half pieces of Italian bread instead of an English muffin. I just have looked closer on the menu. It came with some lightly dressed lettuce on the side. I took a bite and realized it was very lightly dressed. It tasted like they sprayed olive oil spray on it. I thought it needed dressing. The poached eggs looked awesome. I cut into the yolk and tried a bite, only for it to be ice cold. I'm not one to ever complain or send a dish back, but cold eggs are not edible. The toast seemed like it had been sitting for a while, because it was also cold and hard. I told our waiter and he apologized and took my dish. I asked for a fork and ketchup so I could start on my potatoes, but I had to ask him a second time since he forgot. My mom's salad came out with dressing on it even though she asked for it on the side. She ate while I waited for my food. I think they just put my plate in the microwave, because it came out exactly as I had left it with one bite eaten out. The poached eggs were then hard on the outside. It was just all around nor what I expected. I thought they were going to remake the dish. I still ate it because we were so hungry at this point, but I definitely would not go back for brunch. Went here for our anniversary at lunch time on a Tuesday. I was surprised by how busy it was doing the day. We were seated immediately. We started with the cauliflower appetizer- to die for. Highly recommend. As an entree, I ordered the grilled cheese with a side salad. So good and super filling. My husband ordered the chicken sandwich special. It was huge and delicious. My 1st 'post-pandemic' stop in was this week. I was very happy with everything. They always have a nice beer selection. This was one of the first places in Pittsburgh where I was able to find good Belgian beers. I had the cheese plate, which I always love. The cheese selection is always great. They have traditional choices and also add something with just the right amount of funk. I will say the plating was a bit more thrown together than it has been in the past - and no one explained what the cheeses were. They were still delicious. My husband had the green curry mussels and they were delicious as always. My daughter and I shared the roasted chicken. It was very yummy but not as salty as I remember (which maybe is a good thing). Overall, I'm so glad I came back and will continue to have regular dinners here. read more

Weekend brunch take-out at Park Bruges was honestly disappointing compared to our expectations. Ordering by phone at open was easy and we were quoted a 15 minute wait. We arrived on time for pickup and the name was spelled incorrectly and we had to wait for an additional 5-10 minutes until it was ready. This wouldn't have been an issue, but it was apparent that the food wasn't properly timed or packed for optimal takeout. The drive home is only 3 minutes and we immediately ate the food. Unfortunately, we found the following: Poutine: soggy and lukewarm fries, steamed from being in the container with the gravy and congealed cheese from cooling. Good flavor, just disappointing. Country fried steak - also soggy/cold, lacking flavor, dry jalapeño honey cornbread. the sweet onion glaze was a touch too vinegary. Thankfully, the mussels were AMAZING - piping hot, full of delicious sauce and paired with crusty bread. The bonus of take-out is that none of that sauce went to waste - we poured it over pasta for dinner. Our best guess is that the mussels took longer than expected and our other items were left sitting on the line before they were given to us since there was an additional wait, leading to cold and soggy food. The packaging might need to be tweaked so this is less likely, as most people likely have longer drives home than we do. Another suggestion is to package sauces (eg gravy, glazes) separately. In a COVID world, thinking about proper takeout is important. I wish everything was as phenomenal as the mussels had been, but for the price of brunch and the disappointing quality we received, changes would need to be made before we come back again for takeout. read more

This was the absolute perfect spot to bring my mom for her birthday brunch! We arrived around 1:30pm on a Sunday and had a short (15 minute) wait. My partner and I arrived early and were able to put our name in before our entire party arrived, which I appreciated. From the host and our waitress, to the mimosas, to the poutine, Park Bruges was 5/5. I ordered the brisket potato hash and have nothing but good things to say. It was great for brunch, and still great as leftovers the next day. My dad, a picky eater, thoroughly enjoyed his honeycrisp apple and bleu cheese salad topped with portobello mushrooms - you don't know my dad but I promise, if you knew him, you'd know this is another compliment to Park Bruges. This was one of the stranger meals we've had because it started so well. The appetizers were exceptional and everything we were historically used to at going to park/point Bruges for over 5 years. Then the entrees came out... I'm always hesitant to give a below 4* rating because I know it's life/death for restaurants, but the second half of our meal was very bad. --- The moules frites in green curry is the money dish. That's why you go to Park Bruges. Broth was rich with a kick, there were a ton of perfectly cooked mussels, and the fries/baguette were there to sop up the rest of the broth. Hands down best mussels I've had in town. The mezze board, which I wasn't super excited for, was a really pleasant surprise. The hummus and muhammara / walnut dips were freshly made, really flavorful and the muhammara in particular was unique. I'm addition to the pita crisps, olives and feta there was basically a side salad in the middle with a vinegarette. It was a huge portion - great for sharing. We finished the apps fully expecting to have amazing entrees that we'd probably have to bring home. Then they came out... The chicken sandwich was burnt. I'm not sure what happened here.. Left in the fryer too long? Under the heat lamp too long? Both? The bun crumbled from over toasting when it probably shouldn't have been toasted in the first place. Beyond that, the chicken was bland and the sauce was lost in the million breadcrumbs from taking a bite. You can see most of this on the picture. The tofu banh mi: I was skeptical in the beginning, but I love tofu and love banh mi sandwiches so I thought I'd give it a shot. The baguette was not fresh, which is a bad start for any sandwich, but especially a banh mi. My advice, buy them fresh from la Gourmandine, raise the price if you need to and don't look back. The tofu did not appear to be marinated and was fried instead, which means that the sauce really had to be on point, but it wasn't and there just wasn't nearly enough. The picked veggies were fine, but not enough to save the flavor. It honestly felt like something you would make at home only to realize you forgot 2-3 critical ingredients. A lot of people will say "it's tofu, what did you expect?", but it's one of my favorite foods - even as a carnivore. Both side salads were fine. My wife and I could really only took a bite out of each sandwich and immediately washed down the bland dryness with some beer before letting the server take the rest. We were so happy with the appetizers I think the server just kind of assumed we liked the entrees as well and didn't ask how the food was. I should have brought it up, but at that point the meal was done and we both just wanted to get out of there and saved ourselves the awkward interaction. --- We don't live in the city, but we do go into it multiple times a month for dinner. With all the added costs of baby sitters, Ubers, etc. we really want the meals to be as close to perfect as possible. I was honestly shocked a restaurant of this quality would even serve something like these sandwiches. I'd say we would come back for the mussels, because they really are that good, but point/park are too far from other things we typically do in the city that I'm not sure it's worth a special Uber ride for us when there are more consistent restaurants elsewhere in the city. It would have been 1* if not for the apps because the sandwiches ranged from too bland to care to inedible. If you're going here, stick to the the mussels. read more

Just returned from a wonderful dinner here. There was nothing too overwrought or fussy about each dish--just nicely presented food that's masterfully prepared. Everything we ordered, a beet salad, a Creole tomato soup, and cassoulet, was super-flavorful. Again, simple preparation that respects the ingredients and keeps them front-and-center. Our ice-cream dessert, also simple, was a glorious finale to our meal. We can't say enough great things about our server: She was attentive but didn't hover; super-friendly and hyper-efficient. Park Brugues is quite an awesome place to stop by if you are looking for a place to relax and have a great conversation with friends/family over late breakfast, lunch...or beck..over dinner. The restaurant is higher end casual...but not a stucked up place..andoffers a variety of drinks that you can have, or even if you don't drink, some great dishes to share as well. My SO and I shared a cheese board (+chorizo) and moules frites (white wine sauce) and we were really happy with our meals. Although the food portion was big, we were so happy that the meal still felt light and didn't make us feel sluggish after eating a lot of food like we typically get at other restaurants. Of note..try dipping and asking for extra bread to eat with the white wine sauce that is left over after eating all the mussels in our moules frites...it was divine!! I really loved our meal here!! The prices were also very reasonable. They aren't on the cheap side especially when compared to Pittsburgh establishment...but they are still very reasonable!! Check it out if you are looking for a place to dining over great conversations with friends and families. Cute brunch place in Pittsburgh! Also a great date spot :) Food: 4, Value: 3, Atmosphere: 5, Service: 4 This is a cute little french style restaurant that serves great brunch on the weekends! The inside is like a cute french cafe on they have patio seating which is great in the summer months. Service is usually pretty good, and I've never had problems with it. Their brunch menu has quite a few options with usually 2-3 specials. The coffee is fantastic! They serve a blend from a local coffee shop Presto George in the strip which is delicious. The benedicts are above average with great hollandaise sauce, although the crab cake benedict is a little overpriced for what it is and without lump crab. I have also tried the poutine which is wonderful with really crispy fries, melted cheese curds and delicious gravy. The brisket hash is also great, but the brisket is a little bit dry. I have eaten there three times and have been delighted with my food on each occasion. The real star was the classic moules frites, which is honestly one of the best plates of food I have ever eaten anywhere in the world... which is funny, because I'm not even a huge fan of mussels. I still dream about those flavorful mussels, the perfect crispy frites, and the fresh crusty bread to sop up the wine sauce. Perfection! On other occasions, I had the hearty roast chicken dish and a corn and a delicious spinach salad with crispy garbanzos and sesame seeds. Service can be a bit hit or miss. I'm reluctant to say that because I know restaurants are having a hard time with staffing right now. On two of the three occasions I've eaten there, we had servers who were efficient and personable. The third time, our server was efficient but kind of a sourpuss in their demeanor. I don't think they cracked a smile once and kind of seemed like they didn't want to be there. Fantastic brunch! Parking can be a little bit of a pain, though there really is plenty of street parking. It's also along the Pittsburgh marathon route, so that could be something sometime... Maybe eat brunch inside while they run by? Dunno if that's allowed. Anyway, chicken and waffles. In my not so humble opinion, chicken and waffles is the quintessential brunch item because it combines both breakfast and lunch on the same plate. Same plate is key, imo. If I'm getting brunch, I need both meals on the plate, not, "available to order" separately. So yes, they have chickie and waffles, and it's good. Supposedly the honey is spicy with cayenne, but I didn't get any spice. I do eat lots of spice though, so I have a tolerance. Large portion, plus a couple eggs, which is unusual but highly welcomed. In addition, we had a flatbread covered, entirely, with chorizo, cheese, black beans, eggs, onions, pico de gallo, and so on. Very, very good. I'm not a salmon person, but the lox and eggs sandwich was, I'm told, "quite delicious," so hey, that's good. Decor inside is pretty simple, but that doesn't bother me. It might bother you, but get past it because the food is good, and that's why you're there. After a splendid meal here, it's time to update my review. The coveted 5 stars goes to one of the best cheese plates in town, amazing food and exceptional service. Park Bruges specializes in Belgian beers, and they are well known for their mussels. But there's a lot more here to appreciate, including consistently great food and a friendly neighborhood vibe that will keep you coming back. Same owners as the popular Point Breeze location, but a larger establishment with shorter lines. We tried the Flemish onion soup, and it is extraordinarily satisfying. I had the Shrimp and Grits, which was prepared with Southern authenticity. Top it off with friendly and knowledgeable service and you have a real winner. read more

This menu is a little different than what I am used to. I had my friend order everything and I just went a long with it. We ordered a pesto flatbread with tomatoes, mozzarella cheese, and arugula. It was very flavorful and delicious. I also had the French onion soup which was very very very good. I could have had another bowl! We also ordered the chopped salad to share.
