I recently brought my car after hearing a noise by the passenger door every time i would start the car and shut the ignition off. Charlie was able to determine what was the problem, order the part, which was the actuator for the door, and was fixed that same day. I was skeptical about this place despite its shining reviews. The outside isn't much to look at, but I decided to give them a chance. As a female, I despise the recurring oil changes. Has to be done, but so many times as a female, you can never just go to a place and say, just a regular oil change please. Somehow, it never fails, I get called up by the mechanic who always tries to sell something more, flush the transmission, a new air filter ( which literally costs $10 or less and is not hard to put in yourself). Anyway, I went here and the nicest guy greeted me and quoted the same price as he had on the phone. Definitely a little pricier for just regular oil, bout $50 for a regular oil change. But he was fast efficient and honest. Hard qualities to come by in a mechanic. I felt the need to tell him about my check engine light so I wouldn't get some call up to tell me my car has an issue. He kindly responded, " I wouldn't check anything else on your car unless you asked me to." Wow, honesty again. In addition, fastest oil change ever, less than 20 minutes. He even directed me to a couple nearby coffee shops/diners while I waited. Aside from the price, 5 star quality customer service! read more

I took my car to Parkside Auto for an oil change and general travel check before a long roadtrip. The owner is a good ol' boy from the neighborhood and an incredibly kind soul. He changed my wiper blades and checked the tires, took care of everything so that I would feel secure. He also told me stories about growing up in Park Slope, how it used to be there, and what he thinks about all the changes in the neighborhood. We went to Parkside with our trusty old 1998 Subaru Forester ahead of a move to upstate New York. The car had been stalling and not sounding great, and I was worried the end was near. But the Parkside guys said not to fear and got to work immediately, calling us the same day with a detailed and clear explanation of what they could do to get our four-wheeled friend back into shape. It was a decent amount of work (new timing belt, etc etc) but MUCH better than buying a new car. Parkside's mechanics say we're likely good for another 100,000 miles. My husband and I were extremely pleased with the service. This is a customer-oriented place run by friendly, intelligent people. Highly recommended. read more

I own a 2006 Scion Xb with over 100,000 miles on it and couldn't be happier with the work and customer service at Parkside Auto. I've had some major brake work done and had a radiator replaced and also some general maintenance. When I had the radiator done there was the possibility that since some bolts and supports were very rusted there might be a fairly significant expense over the estimate to remove and replace them and the attached part. I was delighted when Charlie Jr. informed that he had managed to get them out and no replacement needed. Charlie Sr. also recently looked at my car on very short notice after I was concerned about my oil and antifreeze levels. He took the time to patiently explain how it all worked and that everything was fine. I completely trust these guys and their work. Thank you Parkside! read more

I will echo everyone's comments and say that these guys are great. They truly are the "anti-mechanics." My husband and I know NOTHING about cars. As lifelong New Yorkers, we only recently got a car, so our experience with maintaining it is very limited. Our A/C died and being that it's summer, we needed to get it fixed ASAP. From start to finish Charlie and his staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Though we weren't happy to know that fixing the problem wasn't going to be cheap, after inspecting it, Charlie called my husband explained in detail what needed to be done and why it would be so costly. I'm new to the area and needed a long over due oil change. Popped in and Dean and his son was friendly and explained the business and history to me helping me feel comfortable. Sometimes getting any car work done you almost have a negative association to it as if you were going to the DMV. The people can care less about their job. Honest, competent, and reliable. They do NOT try to nickel and dime you. They have kept my 10 year-old Toyota purring like a kitten. I have referred my mother and brother to them, and they have both been bringing their cars to Parkside for years, with great satisfaction. Can you find a less expensive mechanic somewhere? Maybe, but integrity and quality more than make up for any possible savings. Bonus: Easy access to the subway and taxis a half block away if your repair will take a while, and a decent diner on the corner if your repair will be quick. read more
