I've wanted to try this place for a while. On a Saturday afternoon my mom, soon to be mother in law and I met for lunch following my makeup trial. I loved the nostalgic and community minded vibes throughout the decor. I got the reuben w turkey and no saukeraut, so basically a turkey, cheese and thousand island dressing sandwich on a gluten free bun which surprisingly was from vin chets. I couldn't believe the rolls were from there because they normally don't taste as good as they did at Parkside Meadow when you buy them from theie shop. Service was good. I look forward to coming back and sitting at the bar. There is street parking, which was easy to find.

Rusty Chain and Genesee Grapefruit Kolasch. Cheers! :)

"Your neighborhood pub in Buffalo's historic Parkside community... where neighbors and visitors could get together". Yes, we were just two 'visitors'. The location is perfect being practically across the street from The Buffalo Zoo. It was an extremely hot day. After wandering around the animal prison under the tropical weather for almost two hours, it was time for some refreshments and a bite to eat. The place opens at four. We were the first customers not including a few people gathering around the bar. The booth we were seated in was small and crowded with unusual, old style fabric curtains and hard wooden seats. I wasn't a fan. The friendly server brought us perfectly cold water immediately. "It's always a happy hour here", she responded when I asked whether they had any sweet deals... duh! Right?! We ordered beers, French Onion soups, Mandarin Meadow salad and Eggplant Caprese from the appetizer menu. Surprisingly, we didn't have much time to enjoy our cold, delicious beer. Come on! It's a bar and they should have known better. I had just a few sips of my drink when the first course landed in front of us. If that wasn't enough, the rest of our ordered dishes were also brought to our table right after soups. It was an unprofessional and unthoughtful move. Anyway, the soup was very tasty. With lots of gooey cheese and flavorful broth it was my favorite dish. If only the croutons weren't completely soaked and mushed... The salad had a great combination of savory and sweet. I truly like the toasted sesame dressing which sealed everything nicely together. The only thing is, the lettuce should have more fresh crisp and crunch, and the bacon could be better quality. The eggplant dish was an unfair attempt. It was practically an unpleasant experience. Everything about it was wrong. The breading tasted like old oil, the eggplant was dark and hard. We even had problems cutting one piece in half. The mozzarella wasn't too fresh and the tomato didn't have any flavor. The chef also didn't give us much balsamic glaze, possibly knowing the whole thing is just a waste. (How dare you...:). After five o'clock, people started coming for the dinner rush. Although we were thinking of having one more round of beer to stretch our visit, the server never came back at the right time. Maybe I would go back some day if I'm in the area to meet a 'neighbor'. Very likely it would be just for a drink at the bar, more soup or something with cheese. I would skip 'healthy' choices. One more thing, prices on their website do not reflect the current menu.

Very thirsty this Thursday! Genesee Grapefruit Kolsch and Rusty Chain pints.

We arrived soon after 4 for a late lunch/early dinner. Other than a couple people at the bar, it was empty, but more people arrived as we were there. The interior is kind of old fashioned and eclectic with a large bar at the entrance and some booths and tables in an attached room. We ordered beers to start and then French onion soup. We also ordered the Mandarin Meadow salad and the Eggplant Caprese to share. Everything came out really quickly, almost all at once. It would have been nice to have a bit of time with the beer, and then the soup before the shared plates came out. Their French onion soup is delicious, even on a hot day after visiting the zoo! The broth was rich and salty; the onions seemed to be caramelized perfectly. The cheese on top was thick, but stayed nice and soft and stretchy. It was a super savory treat! The eggplant caprese was a disappointment, unfortunately. The proportion of breaded eggplant to tomato and mozzarella was way off. The breading was dense and greasy and tasted like dirty oil. The tomatoes were unripened and added no flavor. There was a balsamic drizzle and basil on top, but they couldn't be tasted. The Mandarin Meadow salad had delicious flavor and was refreshing. I only wish they'd use a crunchier green and better quality ingredients. The service was attentive and friendly. I'd go back here if people I was with wanted to go...but I'm not heading back myself anytime soon. So, not bad, but not too good either.

I've been obsessed with this place since their FB started before they opened. I'm ashamed to say it took so long for us to visit. I guess it just took us moving into the neighborhood. First of all, make a reservation. We got lucky coming over around 5:30 on a Friday to get a bar seat. But if you have to wait, it's worth it. I'll start by saying I'm now even more obsessed. The history and the detail. It's freaking amazing. I spent more time wandering around the bar than I did at my actual seat. The matchbooks alone will make any Buffalo historian rejoice. Yet still, they manage to have superb service and food. When we walked in without a reservation, the bartender (it's killing me I don't have her name) was working everything she could to make a table work before we took the bar seats. We so appreciated her and everything she did for us. Simple Buffalo style menu and I don't think you can do wrong with anything here. We had the Reuben, the Mike Piazza sandwich and French Onion Soup. I rarely finish a sandwich but I finished my Mike Piazza and can wait to have another.

I love everyone who renovates an unloved historic building in Buffalo, frankly. And this one is beautiful beyond the confines of Parkside Meadow: a sprawling art-deco mansion at the corner of Parkside and Russell, directly across from the Buffalo Zoo. The inside is a lovingly-restored throwback to essentially the 1950's, featuring all sorts of assorted artifacts from Buffalo's history from about 1850-1950. Crowd seems to skew a little older, which made for fun conversational eavesdropping. The food is good, but not quite great. It is, however, great value. And it's kind of an odd marriage of Eastern-Europe-meets-the-South-meets-Lake-Erie-seafood, with things like shrimp pierogis. The house hot sauce is a keeper. Likewise, the beer menu is not huge, but what is there is very good, and, my lord, is it a lot of bang for your buck. Pints of high gravity craft brew for $6.25? Yes, please. Between two of us, we ordered an appetizer, three alcoholic drinks, two seafood entrees, and a dessert and the bill was...$72? How does that even compute? And this was with prices slightly raised above their regular ones because Covid has wrecked everyone's supply networks and driven wholesale food costs up. There's serious value here. Hours are a bit limited, at 4-8 Wednesday through Saturday. We don't have to rage until the morning light, but--16 hours a week is a bit of a narrow window to enjoy this generally delightful Parkside eatery. We had a server-in-training who was doing her best. We'll certainly be back to give it another go. On-street parking only. Full bar. Takes cards.

Ambiance/vibe is "friendly-neighborhood pub" but it's more special than that because of the historical materials everywhere (it's the theme of their decor). The bar is nice too. Booths and tables and a back room- perfect!

This place is absolutely amazing!! The beef on weck may genuinely be the best I've ever had. Also, my boyfriend got the meatloaf piazza and it was delicious, but now he wants to try the Mike Piazza. The general vibe is casual which was perfect for a late lunch/early dinner. Our waitress was so sweet and made sure to check on us as we got through our meal!! Love love love

My boys had come here before & loved the poutine, so they wanted to go back & have me try the place. It's small inside, but cozy, IMO. There's also a bar connected to the dining area. My boys each ordered Poutine, my son Jeremy got a Chicken Quesadilla as well & coffee. My son Matty got the "Len's Loaded Burger" and Cheese Fries, & I ordered the Spinach Garlic Bread & the Beef on Weck. My sandwich was good, but could've used a bit more beef, my salad had odd lettuce, it was kind of sharp on the edges & kept making me cough. But it was still yummy. I had some of my son's poutine which was very good , his cheese fries were good, but not enough cheese. My other son's Quesadilla was ok, but a bit dry. (Yes, I tried everything at the table but my son's HUMONGOUS 11oz Burger. Prices were quite high for some of the stuff. The check came to over $70.00, which for that, was a bit much. I left a bit hungry, but my boys were stuffed & liked everything. The waitress we had was super nice & always seemed to show up when we needed her. So that was a plus !! I will go back to try more things on the menu & maybe get the poutine for my self next time.

Chose this spot for my dad, his girlfriend and my aunt for a new place to try for dinner and I'm so glad I did. Didn't know about all the Buffalo nostalgia on the walls inside and this stuff is right up their alley. Menu has a good selection of choices all over the board at very fair prices. Everyone was very happy with their meals. Service was spot on , our server didn't even have to write our order down and it was all correct! My two appetizers (Eggplant Caprese Stack and Spinach cheese bread) were perfect portions that left me quite satisfied. Upon reading more reviews , I would like to try the shaved Lamb melt next time (yum). Bring your out of town guests here for a decent meal and a education of Buffalo history.

    Meat loaf dinner

Stopped in for dinner with some friends on a Wednesday evening. I had not been to this place in decades. I had the meat loaf dinner and my husband had the Rueben. The food was good and the service was prompt and professional A lot of Buffalo memorabilia on the walls. The place has a comfortable vibe. We plan to come back again soon.

The tables are old bills and receipts.

Food is excellent. I recommend the Mike's pizza and the steak hoagie with special sauce. The service is excellent. We are coming back. Great memorabilia.

Hubs and I came for dinner with four friends a couple weeks back and though it was a splurge, I have no regrets. Everything I had was delicious. We had: Focaccia Roasted Carrots Wagyu strip Rhubarb Panna Cotta Pineapple Pavlova I also had a Freakin' Beacon mocktail. Everything was SO GOOD. That focaccia was like no other focaccia I'd ever had but was delicious; crisp on the outside, soft on the inside. The steak (med rare) was perfect to me, hubs thought it was a tiny bit too rare for him. It was super tender and easy to eat, perfect char. I couldn't eat the chimmichurri it came with as it has Thai basil (not usual in chimmichurri, but I'm allergic, and the server was very good about asking about allergies) but honestly, it didn't need it. That steak stood on its own. Both desserts were delicious, but to my surprise I think the pavlova was even better than the panna cotta (and I love panna cotta). The portions were very generous and I was pretty stuffed by the time I got home. Our portion of the bill was over $200 (hubs also had some cocktails and the steak alone was almost $90) but it was so good, we'll want to come back when we're in town for sure.

The service was very good and it's a cute spot that I'd be willing to come back to. The best thing we had BY FAR were the beef croquettes. These were perfect, and I could have made a meal out of them. They had a tender birria like shredded meat inside with some cheese and probably some potato, I can't even remember but I do remember that everyone loved these. We also ordered asparagus, the Korean Fried Chicken, the shrimp with potatoes (all small plates) and one of my friends ordered the duck entree. My husband and friends had cocktails and mocktails; I didn't order one because they said they had nothing that was sweet. Incidental pet peeve: Saying "all our cocktails are balanced". I get it, you want to brag. But, some of us like things that are sweet, or as in the case of one of my friends, decidedly NOT sweet. If all of your cocktails are balanced the same way, it gives little useful info on what to order. I will respond to this by NOT ordering and sticking to tap water. I'd prefer it if you have a little something sweet and a little something not-sweet on the menu for those of us who don't actually want "perfectly balanced". That said, I did have a sip of the cocktails the others ordered. To my surprise, I liked the Broken Garden Tools. Though it wasn't particularly sweet it was also not super sour/tart and it was refreshing. I *could* have ordered that one, but I never would have known it from the description. I didn't like any of the others I tasted, but I can't remember what those were. Since I don't like whisky and I prefer sweet drinks, don't take this to mean that they don't have good drinks - the others enjoyed theirs, they just weren't to MY taste. Of the other dishes, I liked the cabbage that was on my friend's duck plate (I didn't try the duck). The asparagus was fine. The shrimp and potatoes was ok but not as good as I'd hoped for. And honestly, I didn't love the KFC. It didn't seem to be twice-fried and super crispy like KFC should be, and the sauce to me wasn't balanced between the sweet and spicy flavors I prefer. However, my husband liked it very well. The only other thing I'd caution is to double check ingredients. There was a dish ordered (I can't remember which now, some kind of bread maybe, but not listed as a bruschetta) that said it contained rosemary among other things but did not list basil. We saw no rosemary at all, but a lot of basil, which I can't eat. So I didn't have any. The others shared it. I would have been more disappointed had it been my selection. My friend noted that the server did not ask us about any food allergies, which, if your menu doesn't accurately list its contents, is problematic. Fortunately I know what basil looks like so no harm done. All in all, I would return, get lots of croquettes, order a Broken Garden Tools, and maybe try some other things we didn't get to. But I'd double check all the ingredients.

Living in Buffalo several years now, I've never been out to Hertel Ave to grab food and drinks -…read moreSurprising, I know! Thanks to a Yelp Elite event on Hertel Ave., I FINALLY changed that with a fantastic late dinner at The Burning Buffalo Bar & Grill. One of the main reasons I don't like to go out in Buffalo is parking - I'm always anxious about finding a spot that's close to where I'm going, as well as not having to pay for it. It was 7:45pm on a Tuesday, so street parking was free so one obstacle down, and amazingly, I managed to park right in front of The Burning Buffalo Bar & Grill, but across the street - I'll take it! Upon walking inside, there were a few tables outside full of people having dinner and drinks with one waitress managing all of it. I walked in and was surprised how big, spacious it was. First order of business though was hitting the restroom, which was on the small side, but clean. After that, I grabbed a seat at the bar. The bartender was a young, pretty woman who was very personable. Unsure of what to grab for a drink, she asked what beers I usually go for and with that, she was fired off a few beers on draught I might like. I settled on the Jack's Abby Post Shift Pilsner and enjoyed sipping on that the rest of the night. She handed me the food menu and took care of a few other customers while I figured out what I wanted. I got it down to two items and I asked her for her recommendation, which was excellent and how I'd order, if and when I make it back. But similar to what other reviews on Yelp say, the atmosphere was very much like a neighborhood bar and grill, where everyone knows each other and if they don't know you, they're still more than willing to let you hop in and out of the conversation. I felt very comfortable sitting and listening to the "regulars" chat, watching a baseball game on the TVs behind the bar. So for dinner, I decided on ordering their Southern Fried Chicken Sandwich which is topped with lettuce, tomato, sriracha mayo, and cheddar cheese, with pickles underneath between a soft, brioche bun with a side of hand cut fries and a pickle spear on the side. The bartender recommended swapping out the cheddar cheese with pepperjack cheese, an awesome swap! The size of the fried chicken breast was HUGE by itself! I was so impressed how the well the sandwich held together as I devoured it. The chicken was hot, not greasy at all. The lettuce and tomato tasted fresh and looked crisp, there was plenty of that pepperjack cheese on top the chicken and pickles underneath. The sriracha mayo was excellent, albeit I would've liked more of it, I think more would've made the sandwich messy and hard to handle, so it really was the right amount on there. The hand cut fries were great as well; Crispier on the ends and softer in the center but plenty hot and not over seasoned. If you've seen other reviews of mine, you'll get the sense I have a pretty big appetite so I was able to demolish the sandwich but I couldn't finish all my fries, so that should be enough to tell you the portions here are HUGE and AWESOME! At first glance, the prices look expensive but I think they're justified as the quality and portions are phenomenal, I certainly felt I got my money's worth. I'm so happy that after several years of living in Buffalo, I made it over to Hertel Ave. finally! I'm also glad I chose The Burning Buffalo Bar and Grill for dinner. The quality and quantity of food, the friendly neighborhood atmosphere, the personable staff, what more can you ask for? I can't wait to come back and grab another Southern Fried Chicken Sandwich or maybe give their North Buffalo Cheesesteak a try!

Great service from Renee who was very accommodating, patient and knowledgeable. Upon walking in the restaurant is intimate, prohibition era like, romantic, yet homey vibes. The food was VERY good. Started with one of the BEST mushroom soups I've ever had. Mushrooms were thick cut, broth was very tasty ..a cup of love that think could win over a non mushroom eater. I had the meatloaf, mashed potatoes and carrots and surprisingly the star of the show was the carrots. The mains, although good didn't leave me wondering how in the world did they made them like the carrots did. They were sweet and savory, cooked perfectly with great texture and taste. My guests had the Salmon burger and another, the Lamb. Tasted my sister's salmon burger and it was amazing. I'll be coming back to have my own. Salmon was meaty, seasoned well, on a soft brioche bun. I also don't know what the sauce was they made to go with it but it added the perfect compliment. My brother's lamb was TENDER, cooked perfectly and seasoned to perfection. I'll be back for that too when they add a couple more chops to the plate. It was delicious, but the lamb chops were tiny and there were only four. THE DESSERT::: soooo good... definitely appreciated the HOMEMADE taste of the chocolate tart. Three people shared it and with the first bite I could tell that was a mistake. Next time I'll get my own for sure. Pro's- Quality food, great service, decent pricing Con's- Size of Lamb and Hibiscus Spritzer was definitely missing something.

I *rarely* give 5 stars…read more The bbq here is Ah-mazing!!! What a great local spot! Went in at the end of the night in the middle of the week. Still had all menu items available, and the food was fresh, tender, and super flavorful! Got the RBT family style platter it was more than enough food for four of us. Ribs were falling off the bone tender, had both smoked wings and buffalo style wings which were done perfectly, and their brisket is fantastic! Tried hamburger egg roll app, and a variety of sides. Customer service was stellar! Trevor made great suggestions helped us decide what to get for our small party and gave excellent service.... Super friendly, attentive service.

The food here is absolutely BOMB. Honestly, if this place served late night in house and delivery,…read moreeven a reduced bar menu...they'd probably kill it. Buffalo is not exactly known for quality late night bites with the exception of a few solid spots. Roaming Bison has the product, location, and food truck right outside to meet an majorly underserved demographic. Also, it would be so cool to see a fish option on future visits. The catfish pics on Yelp look incredible and we were a little bummed it wasn't on the menu...although everything we did have was beyond. Ribs: sic. Brisket: beautiful bark. Sides: collard greens, mac & chz, corn cake...fantastic. We look forward to coming back to try the eggplant wings. Oh and the service was perfectly Buffalo.....authentic and warm hearted.
