Parlor Doughnuts is a special treat to have in North Park! They had their location in Oceanside which is great but having one walk distance from my partner's place is unmatched. Service was quick despite how busy they were and there's plenty of seating inside and outside -- we opted for outside due to the beautiful weather. The Blueberry Hill donut offers the perfect balance of sugary goodness and fresh blueberry. The French Toast is a personal favorite due to its maple syrup goodness. All of their doughnuts are so flakey, light and delicious! I only had doughnuts during that visit, and they were great, but this time around, at this new location in North Park, I decided to go savory and sweet. I purchased the Sausage Biscuit Sandwich and three mini doughnuts, not to mention an iced latte. The sausage biscuit was very good. The sausage patty was very tasty and savory. The sandwich came with a fried egg as well, a fig jam, and delicious sage butter. The biscuit was very good and the sage butter was very tasty. Came on opening day so there was a bit of a line but it moved quick. They're known for "layered doughnuts" which they describe as layers of buttery dough fried to be crispy on the outside side and light/fluffy on the inside. We tried the blueberry hill and the French toast. These doughnuts are pretty large but eat pretty light because of how airy they are. I liked the blueberry hill one better since the fruitiness was very refreshing. This one also tasted a lot less sweet than the French toast one. But my partner loves it. The dough is interesting because it really isn't like a typical yeast or cake donut. It's also not like a cronut with clear layers. My sister lives in North Park and has been raving about the breakfast tacos and sandwiches she's had at Parlor Doughnuts. When we visited her a few weeks back, we decided to give them a try. My partner and I opted for bacon on all of our breakfast tacos while others in our group did chorizo on one taco and bacon on the others. We also ordered a couple of mini coconut cream filled donuts + a couple of larger coconut cream donuts to split. The tacos came out quickly and we all enjoyed them. We did all agree that the chorizo tacos did have a better flavor than the bacon tacos, but you can't go wrong with either. As for the donuts, my 10 month old could not stop eating her mini coconut cream donut; she kept asking for more even when it was all gone. And the larger versions were pretty tasty as well. This place is very affordable for San Diego standards. The service is friendly and there are a lot of tables to sit at too, which I wasn't expecting from a donut shop. My husband got the pistachio raspberry donut & I got the coconut filled/raspberry filled minis. The reason for the 4 star review is that I thought the donuts were in general a little too sweet. I really enjoyed my raspberry filled mini donut, but I thought the other 2 were just ok. The donuts here are more cronut-like, as there are pockets of air and layers on the inside. The dough part of these doughnuts are different from what I've had not quite like a regular doughnut - still perfectly soft and fluffy but with a crust kind of like a cakee donut but not nearly as heavy- delicious overall. I'd absolutely recommend their most popular donut, French toast. You can taste the cinnamon in every bite! The raspberry pistachio and honey glazed tasted the same to me minus the crunch from pistachios. Maybe I got ones with less icing- I'd opt to get one of the more "dramatic" donuts next time- smores, peanut butter cup, etc because a light glaze on top may not be enough to give a significant flavor. The mini donuts (assorted flavors included raspberry-filled powdered sugar and coconut cream) were also delicious! Each donut is around $4.50 and well worth it as comparably sized pastries elsewhere are priced similarly. The donuts were fresh and tasty. The restaurant had plenty of seating and other food and drink offerings. Though parking is tough in North Park, I didn't ask if they validate in the garage so I am unsure about that. This was a really disappointing experience. Both the owner and the employee were rude and made us feel uncomfortable, like we were bothering them just by being there. We had our order pulled up on our phone and were told twice that an item wasn't ordered, even though it clearly showed on the receipt. After we showed proof that we had ordered a drink, they finally started making it. While we were waiting, the owner said to the employee, "What are they still waiting for?" -- even though we were waiting for the drink they had just started making. Overall, the service was unprofessional and unwelcoming. Unfortunately, this experience alone is enough that we won't be returning.
