Great food! The meat was some of the best I've had, very well seasoned. The sauce was a little thinner than I'd prefer, but still very tasty. Establishment was very clean and friendly. The gentleman taking the orders was very polite and explained the options, as well as, recommended to customers who declined the sauce to try it on the side. Hate the service, very bias, always trying to take advantage of drunk person, not a good way to give your own self a tip? I've been in many times and usually you get through the line really quickly and get great food. On Sunday, I was there and the line was out the door and not moving. I was pretty surprised. There's usually kind of a "Soup Nazi" type of ordering system there (which is actually kind of nice because the line moves) but that didn't exist then. Parthenon ruined me for gyros... they were the first I'd had and now almost every other one I try leaves me disappointed by comparison. Parthenon is great and definitely the best Gyros in Madison. You're gonna pay about $10 for a gyro with fries and a soda. My family and I came here a lot in college and would order a basket of fries (or two depending on how hungry we are) to share between the four of us. They also put a lot of onions on the gyro so be prepared to pick some off or ask for one without onions. Even my mom, who loves onions, has to take some off sometimes. read more

One of the greatest misfortunes to fall on those visiting Madison is visiting Parthenon hoping to find a gyro with heaping lamb accompanied by tangy cucumber sauce. Instead of that delicious treat, tourists will find outrageously high prices accompanied by lackluster imitation Greek food. A side of cheese dip for fries will cost 1.25 and it will lead the customer to ask themselves, " Is this melted plastic?" The setting and decor feels like a Greek McDonald's leaving you to sulk about the rip off you have just endured in truly desolate surroundings. I have been eating here since freshman year in 1983. Our Thursday night ritual in college was a Parthenon gyro for dinner and another at bar time. Best fresh "fast food". One of best gyros ever today. Pita fresh and fluffy. Tomatoes and onion fresh. Meat with a little sear on it and sauce as good as ever. We were commenting that the only thing that has changed is the environment. We had become so used to the same interior and music for so many years we have had to adjust to no more red booths and more upbeat music. Seriously we like the changes. Keep up the great work. All I have to say is ... I'm coming back EVERYDAY I came into this place this morning and the second I walked in everything was great. There was a man with the biggest smile and I loved the way he had caried his spirit it was uplifting, then on top of that the food was excellent. After that it got even better a younger guy even took my tray and me and him chatted briefly I really enjoyed chatting out about his love for a game I also enjoy called fortnite the conversation was brief but I made a reference and he boasted how he had his first win on it. I eat here whenever I'm in Madtown, and it rocks my world every time. It's true that the decor makes it look like a weird Greek fast food joint, and there are always groups of rowdy UW kids scarfing some spanakopitas, but this place is a Madison institution for a reason. I stopped in here on July 27th and was pleasantly surprised. The place was clean and the service staff professional. I had their mega gyro, which was easily twice the size of a normal gyro. I wrote my last review 3 years ago. The last time I went I could have sworn I wrote another review but I don't see it. This last time I thought that I had gotten food from a completely different place. The Pitas were tough and rubbery, the meat was dry and greasy, the tzatziki was soupy and mostly water! Terrible! I asked for extra onions and tomatoes and still, they were lacking. I ended up with acid reflux and spent the night on the toilet! I think that short, stocky bearded fella you have as a manager, who was cooking at the time, is ruining your reputation! That Mexican cook you had was great! What happened to him? You better straighten that fella out and tell him to stop skimping every penny as he tries to impress you with bigger $ because you are going to lose business... Long time patron, first time Yelper. This is the best gyros in Madison. Our daughter says it's better than any gyros in the Pacific Northwest. The Parthenon is a Madison culinary icon. Savory meat, sweet onions, tomatoes, and yogurt sauce on grilled pita bread, who's the genius who thought of this? Anyway, the staff are awesome, the joint is bright and clean.
