    5. Rare Steak, Brisket and Flank Soup

I'm back! And yes, the food is always good here! So many pho choices all served piping hot! It's a small, busy restaurant, clean and the service is quick. The staff are friendly and efficient. Their banh mi and vermicelli dishes are my back-up orders when I'm not in the mood for pho. Grab a smoothie with optional boba while you're here. They're thick, creamy, and not too sweet. Highly recommend this place! I'm never disappointed.

I love this restaurant. They have the best vercellmi noodles. Service is just alright. They are not too friendly. The place is outdated and needs some upgrades though. It clean and everything made fresh to order.

Solid noodle restaurant with lots of different options and great value. The food was really satisfying and well made, and healthy too. Plenty of indoor seating and friendly staff who are attentive and helpful. The menu is extensive and there is something for everyone.

Came here on a Saturday night and food was so amazing! There's plenty of seating in the restaurant and seemed clean. Server was very attentive with our waters. We ordered the egg rolls which complimented our pho really well. One order comes with five egg rolls and I loved how it was warm, freshly fried. I also ordered the steak, flank, and tendon pho. The meat and noodle portion was great for a regular size although I did feel like there could've been more tendon. I'm so happy that I found an authentic pho restaurant nearby. Highly recommend!

Pho Tai (large) - $18.91 after tax...barely a normal serving of noodles and 3-4 slices of "rare beef" (May 2025)
    Kevin M.

I've eaten here a few times out of convenience, and was mostly mediocre experiences not worth writing a review about. It's noticeably been on a decline over the past year or so, but tonight was too egregious a ripoff to remain silent! Ordered pho tai and "upgraded" to a "large" bowl for a +$2.50 up charge. What I got was nothing more than a somewhat larger volume bowl with perhaps more soup but maybe a few bites shy of an average serving of noodles and literally 3-4 slices of "rare beef"! $18.91 before tip is such a ripoff for a poorly executed optical illusion.

    Decent, lacked salt for me.

Don't expect service with a smile here. Do expect them to give you the check without you having asked - whilst in the middle of eating. Vietnamese coffee - weak and underwhelming. Egg rolls - lacked salt/seasoning Seafood pho - decent

    House Special Beef Pho Soup
    Lucy M.

$15.93 after tax for a large house special beef pho! The beef pho had a clear broth and there was a good amount of meat; wished there was more tripe and tendon inside. The noodles are slightly firm and thus the right texture (for me). Left the place smelling like pho. No wait on a Saturday afternoon. Service was quick and the noodles came out in less than 10 min after putting the order in!

My go-to is the beef noodle soup with knife-cut noodles, and I love the meaty beef rib. The broth is comforting, the noodles have that great chewy texture, and the beef is exactly what I want when I am craving something warm and filling. I keep telling myself I should branch out and try more of their noodle dishes, but my heart simply cannot say no to the beef noodle soup. I have also had the dumplings and beef rolls before, and both are good as well. The place can get full, but it is always worth it and genuinely never disappoints. Overall, Noodle Street is a reliable favorite for a cozy meal, especially when the weather calls for something warm, hearty, and satisfying.

The noodles came with plenty of chicken, potatoes, onions, bell peppers, and of course, knife-cut, hand-pulled noodles. The dish had quite a kick. They went heavy on the Szechuan peppercorn, and my mouth was tingling during all of dinner! The chicken was tender, and the noodles were fresh and perfectly chewy. But in my opinion, there were just too many onions! I felt like I had to dig through onions to find the noodles. The scallion pancakes were delicious. They came out hot and perfectly crispy. The service was also great. The staff was friendly and kept my glass of water full.

The service is consistently great... attentive, efficient, and genuinely welcoming. Fair warning for anyone new to Sichuan cuisine, the dominant flavor is "spicy". That said, the dishes are not just about heat... they're layered, aromatic, and incredibly well-balanced. Every dish I've tried has been outstanding, both in flavor and presentation. If you're a fan of bold, authentic flavors and reliable service, this spot is definitely worth visiting. Tip - If you're new to the cuisine, I strongly recommend getting everything MILD spicy. I've been told by some of my colleagues that MILD spicy is still pretty spicy, so be warned. With that said, strongly recommend the dishes below. Lamb with Cumin 11/10 - My favorite dish here by far. Aromatic, flavorful, and the spices are just on point. Dan Dan Noodles 9/10 - Solid and consistently good. The sauce is properly seasoned and truly compliments the perfectly cooked noodles. Shredded Cabbage with Pork 9/10 - Not to be confused with twice cooked pork. This dish is so simple and bland looking, but it's packed with flavor... so good! Garlic Pork Belly 8/10 - This is a cold dish. The meat was perfectly cooked and properly coated in chili oil. Solid and consistently good. Kung Pao Chicken 8/10 - In my opinion, it's an elevated Kung Pao Chicken. Solid and consistently good.

The restaurant is bright, spacious, and welcoming, and the aroma of the simmering broth filled the air the moment we walked in. My coworker ordered the Beef Curry and Rice with a Vegetable Korokke and thoroughly enjoyed her meal as well. One of the highlights of our visit was the Black Truffle Chawanmushi. It was absolutely divine! The silky steamed egg combined with shrimp, scallops, and the rich truffle sauce created layers of incredible umami flavor. Every bite was comforting, flavorful, and beautifully balanced. To share, we ordered the tofu and seaweed salad along with the garlic edamame. The garlic edamame is a must-order. The sauce was so flavorful that I honestly wouldn't mind eating a bowl of rice topped with just that garlic sauce. It was that good! We tried the yuzu shio ramen and the karaage chicken curry rice bowl. The yuzu shio ramen was definitely lighter and more citrusy because of the yuzu, which I can appreciate, though it wasn't necessarily my preferred ramen flavor profile. I ordered it with chicken instead of pork, and I really appreciated that the karaage chicken came on the side so it stayed crispy and didn't get soggy in the broth. My partner really enjoyed the karaage chicken curry rice bowl. We also tried the tamagoyaki appetizer for the first time. Interesting flavor profile, but honestly it didn't really pair well with the rest of what we ordered, so we ended up taking most of it home and never really finishing it. You really cannot go wrong with the xiao long bao, steamed buns, or any of their other dumpling offerings. Beyond the dumplings, they have a lot of other dishes I really enjoy. Some of my favorites are the beef rolls, spicy wontons, green onion pancake, chow fun, orange chicken, and chow mein noodles. The noodles are especially good and, importantly, not overly greasy or oily, which can sometimes be an issue at other places. The prices are also competitive, especially considering the portions and quality of the food. It is the kind of place where you can order a good spread, share a bunch of dishes, and feel like you got a solid meal for the money. I also love that they bring out sugared peanuts when you sit down. It is a small touch, but a really nice one. The restaurant has plenty of seating, though service can be a bit slow at times, so good luck flagging down a waiter when it gets busy. You can also tell they are a high-volume dumpling restaurant because there is often steam in the dining room, which can make the restaurant feel a little warm at times. A couple of practical heads-ups: the tables are on the smaller side and can get crowded quickly if you order a lot of dishes, so just be mindful if you are planning to feast. You will also likely need to park in one of the structures around the area, but there is a large parking structure right across the street and plenty of parking options around Old Town. Overall, Mama Lu is a great spot with excellent dumplings, solid noodles, competitive prices, and a menu that keeps me coming back. Definitely one of my go-to places in Pasadena.
