    Mmm! Quiches.

"When you're STRESSED, you eat ice cream, chocolate, and sweets. Why? Because stressed spelled backward is DESSERTS." --Anonymous On several occasions, my brother-in-law mentioned eating fabulous croissants and loaves of bread from one of his favorite nearby patisseries in Beverly Hills. At the same time, we explored some of my ethnic food bookmarks while balancing savory flavors with my sweet tooth. I had an authentic French boulangerie bookmarked in Culver City, which has gotten rave reviews for its Viennoiseries, where I had my eyes set on getting croissants and Kouign-Amann. However, since my brother-in-law's recommendation was only a 16-minute drive from home and I trust his gourmet palate, I didn't push too hard to drive out further. It was a cold and rainy morning when we drove out to Pascal on Beverly, and my brother-in-law suggested that I bring out my "Parking 'aumākua" as parking on South Beverly Drive is unpredictable. Luckily, we snagged street parking at the corner of Charleville Boulevard and South Beverly Drive. We quickly jogged into the fragrant and warm bakery and got in line along the display cases. I followed my brother-in-law like he was the Pied Piper and selected the luscious Viennoiseries while considering that we were getting enough for four people. While standing in line, my eyes danced at the sight of the Böreks (Bourekas) and quiches but popped while looking at the beautiful dough lamination (layers) of the Palmiers. I looked ahead and saw the croissants (plain and almond), pain au chocolat, and pastry "snails." I had to control my drooling after making the selections and shoved my way to the cashier before my brother-in-law conked me on the head, saying it was his treat. Hahaha. Lucky for us, we were near home, and I brewed a pot of coffee before tearing into the buttery and tender layered croissants. All of the viennoiseries (plain, pistachio and almond croissants, pain au chocolat, and "escargot") that we got that day were, in my opinion, as authentically layered or structured and flavored as at Paris, France's famous boulangeries, Laurent Duchêne or La Maison d'Isabelle. I can't wait to return to try Pascal's Cafe menu, which features breakfasts, salads, sandwiches (made with their in-house breads), and paninis.

Turkey & Cheese Sandwich w side salad (To Go) -- fresh and so tasty!

I've been here a few times and have always had a great experience. The baked goods and pastries are the star of the show here, but recently also tried the turkey sandwich and thought it was great too. The baguette is delicious and all the ingredients are super fresh, including the little side salad. The almond and chocolate croissant is my favorite pastry here, as well as the baguettes, and most of the sweets -- never had a bad pastry here. This place gets a bit busy for lunch, but service is always pretty good, you just might need to remind them to grab your Diet Coke, etc. No big deal, they always grab it with a smile. Ambiance is relaxed with outdoor and indoor seating, and though parking may be tough on South Beverly I always seem to score a decent spot on Charleville. This spot is a staple in Beverly Hills, and I always look forward to my visits here.

Had a blueberry muffin and a chocolate chip cookie under $10. Three something for the cookie and it was huge. I would definitely come back just for that.

The smoked salmon bagel was delicious, and the cappuccino was rich and satisfying. With a variety of baked goods and a great menu overall, plus incredibly welcoming baristas, I'll definitely be returning!

Front entrance with patio outdoor seating

04/14/2023 It's a nice quiet morning after a little rain, the sidewalks are clean. Entrance to Pascal looks inviting with outdoor patio seating in the front. A few tables with people enjoying not only conversations but their pastries with their coffee. One person waiting for his order and another person ordering a variety of pastries to fill a white box. All I want are two or three. Waiting for this lady to finish her order, I can still keep looking to pick out a few good ones I really want to try. The pear danish has custard underneath while the almond croissant has layers you know was filled with butter. The outside of each has this crispy crunchy thing going on with each bite. Flakey at the same time. A sip of your coffee would just wash away the delicious taste in your mouth so you hold out for a little longer.

    Farmer's breakfast sandwich with potatoes
    Susie D.

I'm not sure what to say other than it was a perfect sandwich. All of the ingredients were fresh, the flavors popped, all worked well together, the bread never got soggy, and the potatoes had such a nice spice on them. It was also a big portion that left me full the rest of the day. All good.

Very cute ambiance with outdoor seating. Staff was friendly and helpful. Thank you to our busser who cleaned the tables for us without us asking! He was also friendly with asking if we needed anything else. Food is great price for the portions. The bread is amazing and my salad was great. My friend got the egg salad sandwich with a salad and loved it. Will be back!

    Tasteless watery shakshuka. Horrible
    Tiffany N.

Really a very bad experience and waste of money. The food was absolutely tasteless and watered down. The avocado toast was so basic and had no effort put into making it. The service is beyond horrible. When I asked for my latte to be remade, because it was made wrong, the server rolled his eyes and gave me attitude. There is so many better places on the same street that you can go and spend your money on. Food is horrible, the service is bad, and the place has no ambience.

    Chicken Panini. Chocolate muffin

I substituted the steak Chipotle panini for chicken and got a chocolate muffin. Absolutely delicious!!!! Worth me breaking my diet for. Amazing service which is essential any time you are out. Calm and beautiful location for indoor or outdoor. Must try!

Small French bakery with food for breakfast and lunch Baguettes, pastries and deserts available I had to go order avocado toast with egg , unfortunately unreasonably overpriced They have outdoor seating and indoor None of the staff was smiling and welcoming. No music, that makes uncomfortable waiting time and it's too quiet

Came in here for a quick treat and coffee - the ambiance is great - lots of natural light, bustling but not overcrowded, great views of Beverly Blvd for people watching and they have indoor/outdoor options. I ordered a small Mocha and apple tart - a bit disappointed they were out of the banana creme. There's no adequate menu affixed on any walls or chalkboards or any signage for that matter - to see the full menu, you have to pick up one of the clearly used to-go trifold menus. It's a little confusing and that would be my biggest recommendation to them. For example, I only ordered an Apple Tart and mocha - not knowing there were actually many other choices available. The apple tart was okay - soft and bits of salty sweetness here and there. I would have preferred a bit more time in the oven. Anyways, quick review, would come back for the great location and try other menu items.

Marinated medium flank steak & eggs. Properly cooked & tasty.

Though I've been here just once (for lunch), I am already plotting my return. I arrived a bit earlier than my friends and in so doing, accidentally avoided the start of the lunch rush. As there are not many tables here, I feel I lucked out snagging a table for us. As I took at the cozy, classy splendor of a still very new establishment, the relaxed but polished decor was both inspiring and low-key. I had an excellent espresso while I got my wish: extended time to take in the menus. The drink menu, and the food menu. It's my favorite when that part of the cafe/restaurant experience delivers tons of time to get really acquainted with a place. Our friendly, helpful server asked the questions I had about the menu, and the time he didn't know he went and found out. Breakfast is served all day, by the way. My friend started with the sausage rolls (accompanied by the freshly made ketchup). Delicious and great for a table starter or a fairly light entree. Good crunch, and moist inside with plenty of seasoning. My entree was the black forest ham quiche. It was indicative of everything else here: the right size, the right mix of produce, protein, fluffy, cheesy egg inside, and anchored by a subtle but first-rate crust. It's served with a fennel based salad, a crisp and a great complement. We were happy and satisfied sooner than expected (alas, Le Moules must wait). Still, I could not resist a little dessert and ordered the Pain Aux Apricot. It was fantastic, something out of a cafe in Paris. Crisp and light and just sweet enough. Appreciated the friendly service. A steady diet of 70's soft-rock quietly served as the soundtrack at this one lunch. There is easily accessible parking on the street or mostly-free city lot.

The savory and sweet food is SO GOOD!! The service is better than any other local places, and very low-pressure. I say all of this from the perspective of someone who has worked alongside Physics PhD researchers and about five different Michelin-starred chefs. First of all, for how tucked-away Sweet Angeles is, this cafe/small restaurant felt like a hidden gem! They have FILET MIGNON on a dinner menu??!! I must, must, MUST come back to try that!! Veronica, with her incredible tray of sweet samples, piqued my curiosity to enter Sweet Angeles, but "B" is definitely the person who convinced me to stay! As a coffee scientist (and perhaps snob? ) of decades, I had far, FAR too many annoying questions to ask, and "B" both tolerated and answered each of them with a degree of empathy that was top-notch and rarely found in LA nowadays. Really more of a Ritz-Carlton level of customer service than a cafe experience. The owners should be very proud of this. I only ordered a bagel with smoked salmon and cream cheese (and what they call "coffee"), but the sandwich was SO perfect! You'd be amazed by how many cafes screw up something with only three ingredients, but this was likely better than one I would make myself. The sweets are TRULY unique in their construction, presentation, texture, and flavor -- DO try the one with pistachio and raspberry, as well as the "Nutella one that's fluffy like a pillow" -- you WILL NOT be disappointed!! As I was leaving, "B" asked my honest 1-10 opinion of the cafe. I told her I'd give it a 9/10, which in Yelp-land amounts to a solid five stars. The few small things that are "off" or otherwise "wrong" about Sweet Angeles? They are listed below, but I remind you, EVERY business can always improve no matter how wonderful they are. #1 -- This one is bad for the owners, but GREAT for the customers! THE SAVORY FOOD PRICES ARE TOO LOW!! At a VERY over-rated Ukrainian cafe, I paid DOUBLE for a bagel/lox/cream cheese sandwich that was inedible, and Sweet Angeles still has to pay their Rodeo Drive rent prices! They could increase food prices significantly if they wanted. #2, 3, and 4 -- The espresso is overpriced (~$6 for a plain black shot), the machine is a budget touch-screen model (not commercial-grade), and the beans are over-roasted and generic. For context, a proper shot should be ~$4.50 max, and this was a one-button operation worth about the price of its paper cup. I'd expect this hospital/airport-quality to be priced ~$2.25-$3.25. That said, this is a BUSINESS OWNER decision and does NOT reflect the excellent warmth and service of the employees. I understand that Armenians have different tastes (compared to modern, specialty, or "3rd wave" Western palates) regarding coffee, and they have their own distinct methods of producing it. This was NOT Armenian-style coffee, which is something I would LOVE to see at a shop like this () -- single-served "Jazzve" coffees which take a couple of minutes to make, rather than the plastic "espresso machine" with the plastic hot water tubing and other parts. I want to reiterate that the food was FANTASTIC and actually under-priced, and the employees were extremely welcoming and very kind considering the endless questions I asked. If the manager or owners just so happen to read this 10-page essay, I want to say this... I would happily help you (possibly even for free) with: 1. finding proper coffee beans at an affordable price, 2. finding someone to buy the pretend espresso machine, 3. finding, buying, or financing a new (or lightly used) proper espresso machine, 4. buying a couple of high-quality grinders (very crucial), and 5. training on how to produce the basic espresso drinks in the way that local AND international customers have come to expect in this city, and I'd also be happy to teach latte art. AGAIN, I still give this place a 9 out of 10, because it's obviously a bakery before it's a coffee shop. When asked, I told "B" the shop's a 9/10, but the coffee was a 2/10, but I was being polite. The coffee was really and truly a 1/10. Maybe it tastes better with matcha, food coloring, and various milk products? Who knows. But if the owners/management want to make Sweet Angeles a 12 out of 10, and genuinely achieve excellence, they should feel very welcome to reply to this 5-star review and get in contact with me. Good coffee is often the difference between a business "just surviving" and truly winning the game. From the heart -- I wish you all the best, Sweet Angeles!

There are not many cupcake options in the area anymore. However, I learned they only have cupcakes available for preordering. There were none in store which was disappointing. Additionally, I did not see a lot of the pastries that are shown on Yelp. Seems like they changed their dessert menu within the last year. They do have little pastries, cakes, drinks, and a savory menu with crepes. The pastries are gorgeous and I was excited to try them. However, according to the representative most are made with beef gelatin and are therefore, not vegetarian so, being a vegetarian, my options were limited. I appreciate that he let me know. They did have a vegetarian option for me though. I ordered the raspberry cake. It was delightful. Not as showy as the mousse gelatin desserts but still a pretty dessert and very tasty and melt in my mouth soft. Overall, a cute yet very touristy place to visit. Since options for me were limited I probably would not return as it is out of the way but I do think it was worth a try and a one time treat and what I got was delicious. Parking on the street. Valet parking available next door. Public parking lots nearby.
