A contender for best restaurant in Santa Monica. The vibe is perfect for a date night, trendy but not pretentious. Love the Euro Disco playing on the sound system. We did the pressed duck dinner and all three dishes were home runs, particularly the duck breast. The table-side preparation was a fun touch and the chef, Brendan, did an amazing job. It felt like dinner and a show but not in a gimmicky Benihana sort of way. They have an extensive cocktail program courtesy of the head bartender, Tom, and the manager, Candy, took excellent care of us as well. Can't wait to come back and try the burger. read more

My boyfriend took me here for a date night, and it was my first time visiting this restaurant. It's located next to my favorite onigiri spot, which was a plus! We were greeted by a friendly hostess and seated right away. The restaurant has a darker, intimate atmosphere that gives off a really romantic vibe. Our waiter was attentive and professional! our water glasses were always full, the table stayed clean, and plates and silverware were promptly replaced, which I really appreciated. Now for the food! We ordered the snow peas, crepes, French onion soup, chicken liver mousse, burgers with fries, and scallops. The snow peas were delicious at first with lots of flavor, but halfway through they became a bit salty. The French onion soup was cheesy with a strong cheese pull, and it came with two small pieces of bread for dipping. The scallops were cooked well and tasty, though I wasn't a big fan of the potatoes. The sauce had a creamy, cheese-like flavor. The burger was super flavorful even just a bite impressed me and the fries were my favorite part. They didn't taste like regular fries and had an extra depth of flavor that made them really addictive. The crepes were light, with a lightly cheesy sauce drizzled on top. The chicken liver mousse was layered with a sweet jelly, creating a nice balance of savory and sweet. Overall, great service, great atmosphere, and mostly great food. I am probably the wrong person to review this place. I think Taco Bell is high level cuisine. This place was epic. Went with a friend who was in town and they are a foodie so they were freaking out. I ate a whole duck apparently. It was over 5 courses. The salad was pretty average. The weird like tin thing tasted like thanksgiving. I really dug the main course which was the duck steak served medium rare. Melted in your mouth. Our server was awesome. Been here twice, and the food does not disappoint! It's hearty, filling, creative, and delicious! The hostess and waitresses were very friendly and welcoming (and you know of some places that have snobby hosts/wait staff etc., Thankfully, Pasjoli is not one of them!). The waitress was very careful about allergies, and great at explaining menu. And when benging the food, they explained what each dish was and the food came out well timed and fresh! This might be the best burger in LA. I loved how the menu has some fun items but with a lot of class, class, class. The frites with caviar dip and the cordon bleu chicken wings were some of my favorite. But the burger, wow. If you've ever eaten at Au Cheval in Chicago or NY, you would've thought you had the best burger, but then Pasjoli said, "wait a minute." We went for the duck service and ordered many other things and we definitely order too much for the four of us. The duck course was phenomenal and recommended to everyone. Every dish was superb except for the dessert which we got for the birthday girl. This was the worst Basque cheesecake I have ever had in my life. It is one of my favorite desserts, and I order it in any restaurant that offers it. In size, in flavor, in texture, and all in all it was absolutely the worst. It's my favorite burger in LA and one of the best in the country. However, they recently started adding a very heavy sauce (marrow aioli indicated on the menu but it tastes like a bitter bernaise). It was not on the menu we received last week but came on the burger, and it completely RUINS the burger. The best part of this burger was the fatty, juicy, saltiness to it, which is now completely overpowered by the sauce. Please bring back the OG from even a few months ago! Also, service is now a hit or miss and there's usually an attitude by hostess. GM is terrible at customer service, as you see from some of the new reviews on google. You guys have an opportunity to course correct as you are a special restaurant. Your GM shouldn't be arguing with people on Google reviews and you should be doing everything possible to make customers happy, especially polite ones. Welcome to hospitality! read more

My striped bass was overdone but fine, I would not order again. My husband's chicken was like leather. He said it was the worst chicken he's ever ordered out. Came back here three years after our first visit and it's still as excellent as ever. Ambiance dining indoors is beautiful, but I was a bit disappointed that they got rid of a la carte, although we still had a range of options with the prix fixe. Our server was very friendly and gave us great recommendations. We always had everything we needed when we needed it. Food was superb. The tuna tomato appetizer was also quite nice although it lacked any discernible tuna or tuna tartar flavor. It was essentially a quite nice $20 tomato. Still unique very tasty. The entrees. Oh the poor entrees. The chicken was the worst I've ever had in a restaurant setting. It was thin, fatty, extremely salt laden and tough as leather. The poor thing was so incredibly dried out to the point that it was hard to chew. It was so awful it was a bit comical. I'll bet I've sent four dishes back my entire life, including this one. My wife's striped bass was ok, also overcooked and very dry. The sauce was overly heavy but good. French cuisine, I know... The service was wonderful and our server could not have been kinder or more accommodating. Johanna was her name I believe. I felt badly sending back the chicken but it was that poorly done and she was so gracious about it. Very affordable tasting menu! We opted for the duck course and enjoyed each one. The presentation in the beginning was also stellar. I love how they used every single part of the duck. Service was fast and they were attentive from afar. Dishes were paced well. Standout was the first course, that one bit had so many flavors captured and balanced perfectly. The duck filet was cooked perfectly! I loved their tasting thin slices, consistent sizes. Dessert was probably the most disappointing, but everything else was amazing. We were glad to finally try Pasjoli, but unfortunately it was not a place we would return to. We sat at the bar, and one of the first things we noticed was that the neighbors to our left received their food before we did, even though we had arrived well before them. That immediately threw things off. The baguette was very good, and so was the butter. The French onion soup was delicious and very well seasoned, though just slightly too thick. The halibut was also very good and honestly one of the best parts of the meal. The wine was good as well. That said, the escargot did not feel particularly French or special. It was just very regular and not impressive. The biggest disappointment by far was the boeuf bourguignon, which was completely off. It was so tough that it could barely be cut and was essentially inedible. The beef was bad enough that they removed it from our bill, which was the right thing to do. The bar seats were also extremely uncomfortable, very high and not ideal for actually enjoying dinner. Overall, I'm glad we tried it and got to taste it for ourselves, but it did not live up to expectations, and it is not somewhere we would come back to. read more

A spontaneous decision to eat at Pasjoli for the first time, I sat at the bar. The young man who served me, I believe his name was Ben, was attentive, polite and very well-spoken. His recommendations were on point. Splurging, I had a lovely gem salad, almost a Ceasar but distinct and different from the run-of-the-mill variety with compte cheese, a very solid classic steak tartare which, having had many in my life, often in Paris, I'm discerning about, and a crepe with parmesan and caviar. The former Omlette Parlor spot is now a super cute well decorated bistro. The service is fantastic as when they learned of my allergy they made sure to go through the menu and help with adjustments. We started with the deviled eggs, little gem salad and hamachi. My friend enjoyed the perfectly sized souplette of French onion. The steak frites were cooked perfectly. My husband and I heard of Pasjoli from a show on Apple TV about chefs chasing hard to get the coveted Michelin star rating. Spoiler Alert- Pasjoli did not get the star. In any case we found the chef's story and restaurant compelling and decided to drive from Pasadena to Santa Monica as a birthday dinner celebration. We really wanted to like this place but found it to be just OK for the price, and not worth the drive when we have many good restaurants to choose from in our area. The Pros: Ambience and decore is lovely as well as the service. The hostess greeted us and wished me a happy birthday, so off to a great start. Cocktails were well crafted but felt over priced (that's pretty much everywhere nowadays). Steak frites was good but not the best I've had. In fact I've had better for a lot less. The pork chop was my biggest let done. It came with carrots and while the carrots were good, the pork chop fell flat. The texture wasn't good and the cut had more fat than expected given it's one of the more expensive items on the menu. Also, it lacked balance and would have benefited from some side sauce like apple sauce or something with some sweetness to balance out the salt. Honestly I regret not getting the burger every one raves about instead of the pork chops. The winner was a side of green beans with brown butter reduction and almonds. These were very good and I will try to copy them. For dessert we had the basque cheesecake and it was good. I recently had it at a restaurant in Hollywood while we waited for the Phantom near the Pantages and they topped their basque cheesecake with fresh berries, which I liked more. Pasjoli's is just cheesecake. They did add a candle, which was a nice touch! Overall, we had a nice enough dinner experience but I expected the food to be better and didn't have anything that was crave-able enough to bring me back. Maybe if I'm in the area already, I'd be willing to try their burger, but wouldn't pay extra for fries - again they were ok but I've certainly had better. This place is delicious. Truly next level food. Burger was incredible, the salad , the crepe - everything was very, very good. I wasn't sure what to expect as this place had a bit of an identity crisis ... was I sitting down for a tasting menu? How fancy are we talking? Turns out its prices are in line with other restaurants of this caliber in the area, and it's pretty relaxed in there. That said, the identity crisis issue means that the vibe in here is weird. It feels a little sad and dead, and I'm not sure why they opened both sides of the restaurant if they couldn't fill them both. This would be my go to spot if they could deliver on the ambiance, and IMO that would happen if ppl were less confused about what the offering is. Will be returning but maybe only on Friday or Saturday nights so it's lively. read more

It was quite expensive, especially because we got drinks and dessert as well, but the duck breast and pressed duck jus were really the stars of the show and worth a try despite the high price. What an experience we had at Pasjoli! We made reservations and were able to get in on a Sunday as we were heading to the airport and they were able to coat check our overnight bags. The decor was cozy and dim lighting made it intimate. We were only in town for a short trip for another reason, but this meal ended up being our highlight! We were informed of the portions and menu options. We put in our drink order and the staff were SO helpful as we had a few questions about ingredients in some drinks and dishes. We received our drinks and they were done really well. I don't like sweet cocktails so I ordered The Countess drink - it was so good, I need it again, I need to figure out a way to recreate this magic on my own, but that would be dangerous, so we should just plan on visiting again. Outstanding! I was here two years ago and really enjoyed the updates. I love all of the plants and decorations. The egg on egg was totally unexpected and delicious. Steak tar tar may be the best I've had. The Rockfish is outstanding. We tried the ice cream dessert with duck fat caramel - unbelievable. Hard yes! Pasjoli is quite the spot. Great for impressing a group of visiting friends, cozy vibe for date night or if you are like me, a party of one after a long day, the bar is perfect. Duo and Tom were calmly mixing up next level cocktails from Tom's original recipe book while simultaneously low key paying close attention to all of the details that give Pasjoli that next level dining experience. I also have to note something very important to me as a service industry person. I am a hairstylist and owner of a business nearby. After 9 back to back clients my feet and I were nervous of a walk around the block only to find there are no seats for one on a Saturday night. I sat in my car deliberating over whether I should take the chance and walk. So I looked them up on yelp and dial the number. I was pretty sure it was going to lead me to a voicemail and directions on how to book a reservation through some third-party application... A human answered the phone. This is huge. An actual human!!! Sarah was friendly and had my seat waiting for me. Then I was lucky enough to meet the general manager, Kandi. Kandi was friendly and told me about an 8 course tasting menu at their sister restaurant down the road. Celine? I believe. I have had the beef tartar on two occasions. Classic and on point. Pretty much everything about our dinner experience was disappointing other than the chicken liver mousse, including the rest of the food and the service. We will not be back and would not recommend it to anyone. We ordered the chicken liver mousse, French onion souplette, fried maitake, poutine, agnolottie, and steamed mussels. Everything is tapas style, and everything was small even for tapas. When we ordered, the server said to us that we would want bread with the mussels. He did not ask us, and we did not really register that he was adding the bread to the bill without asking us. If he had recommended it and asked, we would have added it, but just adding items to our bill is not okay. It felt like he was trying to upsell us at every turn, which I did not like either. When we ordered wine by the glass, the server initially brought the wrong wine, and I had to correct him before he poured our glasses. He brought out the correct bottle, which was near its end. Instead of bringing a second bottle to give us appropriate sized glasses, we received about half pours each and my partner's glass received all of the sediment from the bottle. When we received the food, almost all of it was disappointing other than the mousse which came out first. That was by far the best dish. The French onion souplette tasted good, but it was exceeding small. The fried maitake had an okay flavor, but it wasn't anything amazing. The poutine fries were soggy when they came out. The agnolottie and mussels were not good. The agnolottie had some odd flavor combinations and just seemed like they were trying too hard to combine French flavors with some corn and Italian flavors. The worst dish was the mussels. They weren't cleaned and full of sand and dirt. We counted four of them that had no meat inside at all. The sauce they came in was good, and we had the bread that were upcharged for to soak it up. I had been really looking forward to this place, so it was very disappointing to have the experience we did. We will not be back. read more
