Went to Passion Bakery for breakfast to try their "famous malasadas". Got the guava filled malasada and also too their Java Chip Mocha Frappuccino. Unfortunately being from Oahu with having Leonard's Bakery malasadas, these malasadas were rather mid compared to that. The guava filling was the artificially flavored type. But other than that it was a decent/above average sweet treat. The malasadas itself I'd say was 3 stars. However, the star was the Java Chip Mocha Frappuccino. The thing I loved most about it was that the java chips were small enough where it never got stuck in the straw and was evenly consistent with every sip. By far the best java chip mocha frappuccino in my book! I'd come back for this one. It made starbucks seem mid tbh. Service was friendly and efficient. And the ambiance, though quite small it was fresh with the smell of a malasadas bakery :) Plus a few tables and plenty parking outside. Overall I'd give it a 4 stars. Definitely coming back for that java chip frappuccino YUM!!!
Passion Bakery Cafe is an absolute must if you're on the hunt for fresh malasadas! We came bright and early, and it was 100% worth it. We ordered the Lilikoi, Haupia, and Ube malasadas -- and WOW. All of them were so good, but the ube was our favorite! Soft, fluffy, perfectly sweet, and filled with so much flavor. You can really taste the freshness. The employees were also so sweet and kind, which made the experience even better. It's always nice to feel welcomed, especially early in the morning. Another big plus is the private parking lot with plenty of spaces -- super convenient! There's also lots of outdoor seating in a courtyard surrounded by beautiful plumeria trees (and some friendly chickens walking around), which adds to the whole island charm. Such a delicious and peaceful spot to start your day -- we'd definitely come back again!
Wow! Go here! First time having malasadas in Hawaii and these were fantastic and memorable! Not too sweet, which is the best part. The filling in the middle is perfection. I read many reviews which led me to go to this particular spot, and I was not disappointed. Hot and fresh donuts in a beautiful courtyard area. I hiked the Kuilau Ridge Trail one morning and then got these donuts. Quick and friendly service. Iced coffee with coconut milk was delicious, too.
Read a lot about the Malasadas so had to try them from Passion Bakery. It's a very busy place and due to it being small inside they only allow a few people at a time to order food. They offer breakfast sandwiches and other items. Staff were very helpful and we ordered several of the Malasadas. We ordered the Vanilla Bean, Lilikoi, Mango and Ube. They were warm when we picked them up. They were delicious but have plenty of napkins as they are quite messy. There are several tables outside and most were taken.
A must-stop bakery in Kauai! This was my first time in Kauai, and Passion Bakery was such a great find. I ordered the Kahlúa loco moco and it was absolutely delicious. I ended up ordering a few baked goods as well, and everything was fresh and tasty. Parking can be a bit rough, and they're definitely very busy, but the customer service was excellent, friendly, and efficient. There's outdoor seating available on a first-come, first-served basis not a ton of seats, but enough to enjoy your food if you're lucky. Next time I'm back in Kauai, I can't wait to return. Highly recommend stopping by if you're in the area!
This place was very good! We came for the malasadas but tried other options they offered as well. Like everyone had mentioned, the malasadas are delicious! Next to the malasadas, I also got the loco moco. Despite it looking like a small plate, it was definitely packed with food! It was very yummy and filling, it was also a bit more on the saucy side. The service was pretty quick and friendly. It is a small locally-operated so the inside of the place only allows 4 people at most inside. The eating area is outside with some seating and umbrellas to cover you from the tropical sun. There's some chickens out looking for food, so just know they'll be around you (as they will be in Hawaii). Overall, 100% recommend and definitely try their dishes on top of their malasadas!!
I've had malasadas on different islands. I've had them in Oahu, if you know you know. I've had them in Maui & Big Island but NOTHING compares to Passion Bakery. These are the most delicious malasadas I have ever had. They always taste fresh and always have the best fillings. The ratio of filling is important too and they never miss! It's always perfect! The breakfast is also so delicious. It's the perfect spot right before going to the beach up north when you just need a great meal! Michael has created a wonderful bakery and we are so grateful to have been able to enjoy all its had to offer! Keep in mind, there is no indoor dining which is totally fine!
Great place to check out for breakfast! We tried out a variety of their pastries and savory options - all very tasty. The malasadas weren't very sweet which is good. I learned that they make their malasadas fresh once you order as well as their savory items. Only the pastries on display are ready right away. I hope to come back to try more of the options as some of them were sold out.
Stopped by for a quick breakfast and enjoyed the food! We stopped by Saturday morning around 8:30 am and it wasn't too crowded. There's no indoor seating but there is plenty of outdoor seating around the cafe. They offer a variety of pastries as well as breakfast sandwiches and plates which are available anytime. There are also limited lunch options in the form of sandwiches and plates. I was mainly here for the malasadas. I got 4 of them to try: the original ($2.85) as well as coconut, mango cream, and vanilla bean ($3.50 each). They came out quickly and were still nice and warm. My favorite was the regular and coconut. I was disappointed in the mango as it didn't taste like mango at all. The interesting thing about their cream filled masaladas is that most of the cream is outside the malasada. I'm used to the opposite, where most of the cream is inside, but it's a bit easier to eat this way. My friend also got the Jalapeno Popper breakfast sandwich ($14.99), which he absolutely loved.
Stopped here for breakfast/snacks and it hit the spot. The malsadas were really tasty and I liked my drink. The cheesecake wasn't my favorite but it was good. My boyfriend liked his coffee roll thing too! Friendly staff and order came out quick despite it behind busy! Good stop if you're headed out on a day trip.
5 stars for the friendly service but we're here to review food. Cute little cafe, nestled in Kinipopo marketplace. Breakfast sandwiches, pastries, breads, açaí bowls ... but we came to try the malasadas. They're ok..not good like other places. Coffee was also ok. The guava pastry was too creamy for my taste. Best malasada's on the island! Mo betta than Leonard's and Pipeline on Oahu!!! They make them to order so they are warm and delicious!! Get plenty of flavors from plain sugar, cinnamon and 6+ other flavors. We got the lilikoi, vanilla bean, haupia...warm fresh yeasty donut flavor, great texture, very filling! Delicious fillings!! The Ube Malasada has to be one of the best things I've EVER eaten in my life; no exaggeration. I'm so glad that I took the recommendation of the person behind the counter to try it. My family and friends are sick of hearing me talk about how amazing it was. I genuinely will go back to Kauai from CA one day to have it again. Speaking of which, I took Malasadas back to California so my Hawaiian friend could have a piece of home and after 13 hours of travel they were still pretty d$*n good! This was our first stop on our trip to Kauai and so glad it was . We came back every morning for the Mexicano breakfast sandwich, my husbands favorite was the Paniolo AND the malasadas were to die for . I have to give this place a five star rating! We got there when they opened, the guy taking our order was very upbeat and pleasant. I ordered a Hawaiian Breakfast Sandwhich while my partner ordered two Malasadas (not there is only one in the picture becuase he inhaled it) and a bacon puff pastry. All we had was malasadas, but we were there three times. Made fresh when you order. Had sugar coated and cinnamon sugar. We are not filling people. Cinnamon sugar on a warm malasada with coffee! Someone at our hotel recommended this bakery so we were so excited to have a great breakfast. We actually went for Gauva bread but they were out. Apparently they only bake on certain days. This is counter service and comfy outdoor seating. We waited a long time for our breakfast sandwiches and they were just disappointed. The menu description and taste don't match. Unfortunately we might have already had poor expectations when we decided to get a lillilokoi muffin and it was the driest most un flavorful muffin we've ever tried. This was definitely not fresh. Overhyped malasadas! My girl recommended this place, which looks good on their menu and yelp page. The ambiance is cozy and quite warmed because of the servers that ran this place. People over here are friendly as you can get :) Sadly, the malasadas that they're known for are great in an IG story, but was just a facade of its shell. Their malasadas look pretty for the picture but lacked on substance. The bread doesn't taste like malasadas at all with its light flake but instead an ordinary roll that you see in Vons or Ralph's. The filling looks like a droplet even Oliver Twist would reject :/ Overall, one and done! read more

Wow. So good. My only regret is coming here on our last day on the island so I couldn't get more! The coconut cream malasada was absolutely delicious and I got a good serving of cream in mine. I also loved the plain one. The malasadas were so warm & fresh. The staff were kind and we got our order in 5 minutes. I love the sweet outdoor eating area with the cute chickens and their neon sign. My husband got the POG as well and it was also good, nice brightness and contrast to the sweet and doughy malasada. Mahalo! read more

I have only had malasadas here. At $3something a pop, they are small, but tasty, loaded with sugar and sweetness. Good little snack for a sugar rush. Staff are cool, there is limited seating outside and sign says they are making them daily now. read more
A great little bakery in a small retail/restaurant complex just off the main highway. It's ticked away so it might be a bit to find, but well worth it. It's small, compact with a suefficient amount of outdoor cafe type seating. There's an array of baked goods although many were already gone by time we arrived at 10:30 am on a Saturday. What was left, however, looked wonderfully tempting. On certain days they have hand made to order Malasadas... a Portuguese Azores treat that came to Hawaii by plantation workers in the 1800s. This place has an array of fillings to choose from ane we got mango and coated sugar. You can get cinnamon as well. We then chose a few pastries and all of it was scrumptious. I love this place! For all you French toast lovers - you *have* to come here. I came here with my husband on our first day in Kauai and I ordered the Pineapple French Toast. Sooo good! Fluffy but soaked through with the batter. And they give you plenty of butter. Our last day I made sure we came back, but this time I ordered the Guava French Toast (in the photo). Great small bakery/cafe! A little sad that when we stopped by here they didn't have any breakfast at the time. Regardless, the malasadas were so good! We got a variety of flavors (POG, Mango, Ube, and Lilikoi) and I kid you not, we put them down in a matter of minutes. It was our last day on Kauai. We were looking for a breakfast spot to eat before we headed to the airport and came across Passion Bakery Cafe on Yelp. We arrived around 10am on a Wednesday and they were a little busy. There was a short line & I noticed the pastries were half gone. Standing in line observing the staff. It seemed like they were short staffed and it was a bit chaotic. They seemed very nice but under a lot of stress. We were patient and just waited. I noticed they're Christians and loved the music. One of the workers was singing and praising while working which I don't mind at all and loved that vibe. The food was good. I got a chorizo which I liked. My husband got a loco moco which was really filling & tasty. My son got an Acai bowl. He said it was different but I actually liked it bc it wasn't overly sweet like other places I've tried. My daughter ordered the guava toast but later the staff came out to let us know that they didn't have it so she got pineapple toast instead which she said didn't taste great. My other daughter got a jalapeño egg sandwich. It was good but had too many jalapeños. The malasadas were ok. The filling was creamier and heavy with very colorful food coloring & you couldn't really taste the mango or Ube. We got a table outside to eat and the chickens sure are brave and look for food. Just beware. All in all I would come back and give it another try & try other pastries. I think there's definitely room for improvement for this place as they could probably find a better ordering system that will make things run smoothly for everyone. The staff just seemed frazzled & all over the place, but with a better system in place things could run more smoothly & efficiently. read more

Stopped by on our way to the Kilauea Lighthouse. Nice cafe with coffee, pastries and breakfast and lunch items. I chose one of the breakfast sandwiches. It had egg, bacon, and cheese. It was large which was good because I was hungry! My daughter ordered the special which was a Hawaiian French toast with a side order of eggs. She really enjoyed it was it was a deal at $11.99. This was a delicious breakfast spot not too far from where we were staying. The macadamia nut sticky bun had plenty of nuts and was flavorful. We split the most popular breakfast sandwich (can't recall the name) and I see why it is the most popular! Highly recommend it and the bread it comes on puts the flavor combo over the top! Iced coffee drinks were great too! You put your order in and they give you any baked goods from the case but will then make your coffee and other breakfast items such as sandwiches and bring them out to you. No tables inside but a good number outside. Not very large inside either but the food is good so it's all good! read more

I wish I could give this business more than 5 stars. We went here four times in our week on Kauai. The breakfast sandwiches on the homemade brioche are so tasty. And the malasadas are NEXT level. Passion bakery is located in a strip mall and very easy to find. It's small and very popular, as most of the pastry items were sold out when we arrived around 10 am! Thankfully, we were able to get some fresh Malasadas. So we got passionfruit, mango, POG and Ube, and they were all delicious. It's quite adorable to see them side by side as the colorful fillings decorate the top of each one. The malasadas were big and delicious. They were fresh and puffy, filled with a decent amount of delicious fillings which was not too sweet. Overall we liked all the favors and enjoyed them all. You can also order some breakfast plates and enjoy them at the outdoor seating area. The staff were very friendly. They had us waiting on the garden sitting area (with complimentary drinking water) and brought our box to us. Decent malasadas, but not the best I've had in Hawaii. I've been to several of the famous malasada spots across the islands, and this place ranks somewhere in the middle. It was definitely better than Manuela Malasada on the Big Island, but still not quite at Leonard's level on Oahu. We tried a variety: POG, Ube, Cinnamon Sugar, Sugar, and Mango. The POG and Mango were disappointing as they were overfilled to the point where it felt like more filling than donut. On the other hand, the Cinnamon Sugar and Ube were my favorites, though I wish the Ube had more filling. We were especially bummed they were out of haupia which was the main reason we came. Service was quick and there was plenty of seating, but overall, the experience was just okay. read more
If you are visiting kauai , this place has to be on your must visit list .This was a short walk for us and we came for breakfast and worked up an appetite .Needless to say everything on the menu looked intriguing at that point . We got three Malasada`s and a Passion Fruit White Chocolate French toast which comes with a side of eggs . I have never had Malasada before but I can tell with surety that this wont be the last time . They were mind blowing and the tropical flavors were just something that I could never have enough of . I found the POG the best one but you can't go wrong with any honestly . The French toast was soft and delicious as well . It does take a while to get the food out so prepare to wait . This is a very popular place and the reason is the great food and friendly staff. I have to give praise to the young man who seems to be the lead person who sets the example with his positivity ( he actually sings along with the radio). Every who works there has a smile they seem to really enjoy customer interaction. The pork Loco Moco was amazing slow cooked pork roast shredded with gravy over rice. The Macadamia Nut sticky roll was to die for as were the Mango cream filled Malasadas. This place can be very busy and closes at noon. read more

They have malasadas made fresh to order every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday and I would say that's the true specialty of this place. I would for sure come back for their powdered, stuffed donuts. Their most famous is the passion orange grapefruit (very citrus-y) and their ube (Kauai is known for the taro in Hawaii). We also ordered a Loco Moco plate with 2 over easy eggs and a Paniolo breakfast sandwich. The Loco Moco plate had delicious mac salad and the eggs were delicious! Their beef patties were ok, tasted a bit overcooked. I think their kalua pork might be better. The breakfast sandwich was regular, nothing spectacular but my mom liked it. read more

Popular place for breakfast based daily attendance each of four days I went there. Loco Moco is a classic, French Toast sells out fast (and I know why), and Masadas are great too. Patio seating is great but often hard to find so you may need to take away. Service is efficient, but only 4 customers can be inside at a time due to compact space. read more
