While visiting Kaua'i for the first time last year, we sought out to try some malasadas. While doing our research, I found Passion Bakery Cafe had excellent reviews. So we took a roadtrip from our rented condo in Poipu to Passion. The location is a little tricky to find, but definitely worth it. We were able to park on the road next to the cafe and found a table outside. We ordered three malasadas, one with chocolate cream inside for me, one with vanilla bean cream inside for my wife, and a sugar coated one to share. The order took a little while, as they made them fresh to order. But we enjoyed the weather and the birds as we waited. The malasadas were so tasty and were worth the wait. Unfortunately, the thought to get photos didn't happened until there was only the sugar coated one left. Visited last year and had to come back for a second round. Even with the rain outside patio area is covered enough to enjoy meal without getting wet. We were super excited to see that they now make their tasty malasadas everyday. We ordered the paniolo breakfast sandwich with Chipotle mayo on side, an iced latte with oat milk, brewed coffee, Keylime malasada and an Ube malasada. The paniolo breakfast sandwich was delicious. The bread they use is a soft with a hint of sweetness and perfect for the bacon, egg,onion, and cheese inside. My iced latte and brewed coffee were also perfect, and paired so well with our Malasadas. The star of the show was definitely the key lime malasada. It's a prefect combination of tart, creamy and oh so flavorful! It's gonna be hard not to visit every day while here! Finally was able to get fresh malasadas in Kauai. We got the pineapple, orange, guava cream, plain cinnamon sugar coated and chocolate malasadas. The favorite was the POG. We also got the jalapeño popper sandwich which was fantastic! Really cute bakery that I would totally come back to again to try more of their delicious desserts and sandwiches. So happy it was open! I have to give this place a five star rating! We got there when they opened, the guy taking our order was very upbeat and pleasant. I ordered a Hawaiian Breakfast Sandwhich while my partner ordered two Malasadas (not there is only one in the picture becuase he inhaled it) and a bacon puff pastry. We sat at the tables outside where we listened to and watched the chickens while drinking our coffee and eating our food! We will be going back! read more

We got two of their sandwiches (the Mexican and the Paniolo) and a variety of their malasadas. Wow, everything was great! The sandwiches on their home made buns was delicious and the malasadas were light and very flavorful. Staff and service was friendly, and the bakery was spotlessly clean. The malasadas are made fresh to order so they come out so good and warm! You can pick the flavor of cream filling that you'd like. We got 3 malasadas: POG, vanilla bean, and cookies and cream. The POG we didn't like as much because it was a bit too tart. The vanilla bean and cookies & cream were pretty good BUT tasted subtly like cream cheese. I'm not a big fan of cream cheese, so next time I'd probably get the chocolate filling instead. read more

Someone at our hotel recommended this bakery so we were so excited to have a great breakfast. We actually went for Gauva bread but they were out. Apparently they only bake on certain days. This is counter service and comfy outdoor seating. We waited a long time for our breakfast sandwiches and they were just disappointed. The menu description and taste don't match. Unfortunately we might have already had poor expectations when we decided to get a lillilokoi muffin and it was the driest most un flavorful muffin we've ever tried. This was definitely not fresh. Overhyped malasadas! My girl recommended this place, which looks good on their menu and yelp page. The ambiance is cozy and quite warmed because of the servers that ran this place. People over here are friendly as you can get :) Sadly, the malasadas that they're known for are great in an IG story, but was just a facade of its shell. Their malasadas look pretty for the picture but lacked on substance. The bread doesn't taste like malasadas at all with its light flake but instead an ordinary roll that you see in Vons or Ralph's. I'll be honest, I was never a big fan of the Pastries for breakfast, but now I am / and I blame these folks. I'm putting in a container home over here and I got a small crew of guys working for me both here and on Maui to put in two homes for me and they were highly recommended by of all people the British guy on the crew so it's a staple every time I go over there. It's like going to a whole different world when you go over that island though a lot of things you're familiar with on the other islands that are not here it's definitely a different trip but beautiful place so if you stop in there, ask for a any fruity pastry and sit back and smell the coffee & enjoy the ambiance. My girlfriend prefers this island over all others and starting to feel the same. And it's places like this that are changing my mind. read more

The Ube Malasada has to be one of the best things I've EVER eaten in my life; no exaggeration. I'm so glad that I took the recommendation of the person behind the counter to try it. My family and friends are sick of hearing me talk about how amazing it was. I genuinely will go back to Kauai from CA one day to have it again. Stopped in on our first day of vacation in Lihue. We were staying just a block away from the Bakery. The malasadas were out of this world! I had the coconut filled and my hub had the sugared one. Delicious! They are made fresh to order. Shout out to the hot chai tea-- just the right spicing. They serve Kauai coffee, which my husband enjoyed. Service was given with a smile by the owner/lady at the counter. Happy and peaceful atmosphere. Wow. So good. My only regret is coming here on our last day on the island so I couldn't get more! The coconut cream malasada was absolutely delicious and I got a good serving of cream in mine. I also loved the plain one. The malasadas were so warm & fresh. The staff were kind and we got our order in 5 minutes. I love the sweet outdoor eating area with the cute chickens and their neon sign. First breakfast stop! The fresh malasadas are amazing! You have to try them but don't wait too long cause it gets crowded quick. Service was fast and friendly, everyone was super nice! I had forgot to add a breakfast entree on my order when we picked up and the guy there said he will get it cooked for me asap! That was so nice of them considering the line was out the door. A great little bakery in a small retail/restaurant complex just off the main highway. It's ticked away so it might be a bit to find, but well worth it. It's small, compact with a suefficient amount of outdoor cafe type seating. There's an array of baked goods although many were already gone by time we arrived at 10:30 am on a Saturday. What was left, however, looked wonderfully tempting. On certain days they have hand made to order Malasadas... a Portuguese Azores treat that came to Hawaii by plantation workers in the 1800s. This place has an array of fillings to choose from ane we got mango and coated sugar. You can get cinnamon as well. We then chose a few pastries and all of it was scrumptious. I love this place! For all you French toast lovers - you *have* to come here. I came here with my husband on our first day in Kauai and I ordered the Pineapple French Toast. Sooo good! My issue is that why is there a sign on the door saying six people at most in the bakery at one time when I was the only one and was asked to wait outside in the wind and rain. Makes no sense. I recommend their food, but will not be back because of that exact customer service. It was our last day on Kauai. We were looking for a breakfast spot to eat before we headed to the airport and came across Passion Bakery Cafe on Yelp. We arrived around 10am on a Wednesday and they were a little busy. There was a short line & I noticed the pastries were half gone. Standing in line observing the staff. It seemed like they were short staffed and it was a bit chaotic. They seemed very nice but under a lot of stress. We were patient and just waited. I noticed they're Christians and loved the music. One of the workers was singing and praising while working which I don't mind at all and loved that vibe. The food was good. I got a chorizo which I liked. My husband got a loco moco which was really filling & tasty. My son got an Acai bowl. He said it was different but I actually liked it bc it wasn't overly sweet like other places I've tried. My daughter ordered the guava toast but later the staff came out to let us know that they didn't have it so she got pineapple toast instead which she said didn't taste great. My other daughter got a jalapeño egg sandwich. It was good but had too many jalapeños. The malasadas were ok. The filling was creamier and heavy with very colorful food coloring & you couldn't really taste the mango or Ube. We got a table outside to eat and the chickens sure are brave and look for food. Just beware. All in all I would come back and give it another try & try other pastries. I think there's definitely room for improvement for this place as they could probably find a better ordering system that will make things run smoothly for everyone. This was a delicious breakfast spot not too far from where we were staying. The macadamia nut sticky bun had plenty of nuts and was flavorful. We split the most popular breakfast sandwich (can't recall the name) and I see why it is the most popular! Highly recommend it and the bread it comes on puts the flavor combo over the top! Iced coffee drinks were great too! You put your order in and they give you any baked goods from the case but will then make your coffee and other breakfast items such as sandwiches and bring them out to you. No tables inside but a good number outside. Not very large inside either but the food is good so it's all good! read more
