Went to Passion Bakery for breakfast to try their "famous malasadas". Got the guava filled malasada and also too their Java Chip Mocha Frappuccino. Unfortunately being from Oahu with having Leonard's Bakery malasadas, these malasadas were rather mid compared to that. The guava filling was the artificially flavored type. But other than that it was a decent/above average sweet treat. The malasadas itself I'd say was 3 stars. However, the star was the Java Chip Mocha Frappuccino. The thing I loved most about it was that the java chips were small enough where it never got stuck in the straw and was evenly consistent with every sip. By far the best java chip mocha frappuccino in my book! I'd come back for this one. It made starbucks seem mid tbh. Service was friendly and efficient. And the ambiance, though quite small it was fresh with the smell of a malasadas bakery :) Plus a few tables and plenty parking outside. Overall I'd give it a 4 stars. Definitely coming back for that java chip frappuccino YUM!!!
Passion Bakery Cafe is an absolute must if you're on the hunt for fresh malasadas! We came bright and early, and it was 100% worth it. We ordered the Lilikoi, Haupia, and Ube malasadas -- and WOW. All of them were so good, but the ube was our favorite! Soft, fluffy, perfectly sweet, and filled with so much flavor. You can really taste the freshness. The employees were also so sweet and kind, which made the experience even better. It's always nice to feel welcomed, especially early in the morning. Another big plus is the private parking lot with plenty of spaces -- super convenient! There's also lots of outdoor seating in a courtyard surrounded by beautiful plumeria trees (and some friendly chickens walking around), which adds to the whole island charm. Such a delicious and peaceful spot to start your day -- we'd definitely come back again!
Wow! Go here! First time having malasadas in Hawaii and these were fantastic and memorable! Not too sweet, which is the best part. The filling in the middle is perfection. I read many reviews which led me to go to this particular spot, and I was not disappointed. Hot and fresh donuts in a beautiful courtyard area. I hiked the Kuilau Ridge Trail one morning and then got these donuts. Quick and friendly service. Iced coffee with coconut milk was delicious, too.
Read a lot about the Malasadas so had to try them from Passion Bakery. It's a very busy place and due to it being small inside they only allow a few people at a time to order food. They offer breakfast sandwiches and other items. Staff were very helpful and we ordered several of the Malasadas. We ordered the Vanilla Bean, Lilikoi, Mango and Ube. They were warm when we picked them up. They were delicious but have plenty of napkins as they are quite messy. There are several tables outside and most were taken.
A must-stop bakery in Kauai! This was my first time in Kauai, and Passion Bakery was such a great find. I ordered the Kahlúa loco moco and it was absolutely delicious. I ended up ordering a few baked goods as well, and everything was fresh and tasty. Parking can be a bit rough, and they're definitely very busy, but the customer service was excellent, friendly, and efficient. There's outdoor seating available on a first-come, first-served basis not a ton of seats, but enough to enjoy your food if you're lucky. Next time I'm back in Kauai, I can't wait to return. Highly recommend stopping by if you're in the area!
This place was very good! We came for the malasadas but tried other options they offered as well. Like everyone had mentioned, the malasadas are delicious! Next to the malasadas, I also got the loco moco. Despite it looking like a small plate, it was definitely packed with food! It was very yummy and filling, it was also a bit more on the saucy side. The service was pretty quick and friendly. It is a small locally-operated so the inside of the place only allows 4 people at most inside. The eating area is outside with some seating and umbrellas to cover you from the tropical sun. There's some chickens out looking for food, so just know they'll be around you (as they will be in Hawaii). Overall, 100% recommend and definitely try their dishes on top of their malasadas!!
I've had malasadas on different islands. I've had them in Oahu, if you know you know. I've had them in Maui & Big Island but NOTHING compares to Passion Bakery. These are the most delicious malasadas I have ever had. They always taste fresh and always have the best fillings. The ratio of filling is important too and they never miss! It's always perfect! The breakfast is also so delicious. It's the perfect spot right before going to the beach up north when you just need a great meal! Michael has created a wonderful bakery and we are so grateful to have been able to enjoy all its had to offer! Keep in mind, there is no indoor dining which is totally fine!
Great place to check out for breakfast! We tried out a variety of their pastries and savory options - all very tasty. The malasadas weren't very sweet which is good. I learned that they make their malasadas fresh once you order as well as their savory items. Only the pastries on display are ready right away. I hope to come back to try more of the options as some of them were sold out.
Stopped by for a quick breakfast and enjoyed the food! We stopped by Saturday morning around 8:30 am and it wasn't too crowded. There's no indoor seating but there is plenty of outdoor seating around the cafe. They offer a variety of pastries as well as breakfast sandwiches and plates which are available anytime. There are also limited lunch options in the form of sandwiches and plates. I was mainly here for the malasadas. I got 4 of them to try: the original ($2.85) as well as coconut, mango cream, and vanilla bean ($3.50 each). They came out quickly and were still nice and warm. My favorite was the regular and coconut. I was disappointed in the mango as it didn't taste like mango at all. The interesting thing about their cream filled masaladas is that most of the cream is outside the malasada. I'm used to the opposite, where most of the cream is inside, but it's a bit easier to eat this way. My friend also got the Jalapeno Popper breakfast sandwich ($14.99), which he absolutely loved.
Stopped here for breakfast/snacks and it hit the spot. The malsadas were really tasty and I liked my drink. The cheesecake wasn't my favorite but it was good. My boyfriend liked his coffee roll thing too! Friendly staff and order came out quick despite it behind busy! Good stop if you're headed out on a day trip.

This little hole in the wall is amazing!! Great customer service and a line out the door.. They are not open all day so I would recommend checking their hours and the days they are open beforehand. You order your food and then pick it up. You can take it To Go or sit outside where they have small tables and chairs but you won't have somebody waiting on you which is fine for a casual dining in my opinion being that their food is very tasty and well worth it. read more

This local spot is a "must do" when visiting Kauai. You have to check the hours because they are open certain days. Their food is great, especially the malasadas! You have to expand your palate-no regrets! read more

We decided to stop here for a quick bite before our tubing adventure. Is located towards the back of the shopping area with patio seating. We got there about 9 AM and I noticed most of the pastries were gone. I went with the chocolate croissant and chorizo and egg breakfast sandwich. They are both pretty good. The mocha Frappe took longer than the food, which I was surprised. Service was lacking in my opinion. I felt like they were too busy in their conversation. There were a few chickens walking around the patio seating. They do have signage to make you aware that they will take your food if you leave it unattended. read more
The shop is tiny but mighty! Super easy to find and there's a good amount of street parking. The owners and employees are so welcoming and friendly! They loved seeing my little Pom and told him how cute he was which I'm sure he loved haha. The malasada is delicious! I like this one personally more than other locations on the island because it seems way more fresh, it's slightly crisp, and it was still light and fluffy on the inside. The POG flavor wasn't my favorite but the plain sugar was the bombbbb! I tend to prefer non-filled malasada so this shouldn't surprise me. There's a small area outside the shop to enjoy the scenery. After enjoying malasadas at Aloha Sweet Delites a few days prior, I came here on numerous recommendations. Although tasty, just not as good. The vanilla was good with the first bite, but it was a bit overwhelming. Good coffee. Stays very busy by the looks of it. Get in line for their malasadas STAT. That is all the endorsement you need, trust me. We were staying near Passion Bakery Cafe which was a boon in itself imo. We wandered over for a quick breakfast and malasadas on a Sat morning and were NOT disappointed AT ALL. First off they serve malasadas 3 days a week (Sat, Tu, Th) -- I highly recommend going on these days and grabbing some because they were insanely delicious. We went twice and tried the filled ones -- vanilla, matcha, POG, lilikoi, ube, mango. All of them were great but POG was a favorite; what can I say, we're a bit basic :P Outside of the malasadas, their baked goods/pastry shelf is great and also insanely popular. We went about an hour after opening each day and things were already sold out so be an early bird if there's a particular item you REALLY want to try! I did try their coffee with a caramel latte and it was great! We also wanted some savory goods so we had the breakfast sandwiches as well -- chorizo/mexican for my husband, jalapeno and cheese for me. If you are vegan and want to avoid eggs, there is a tofu scramble! The sandwiches did take a bit of time but good lord they were LOADED AF. My sandwich was just oozing cheese and hand such a good handful of spicy jalapenos. Would 100% order again. This bakery cafe is so small and unassuming but service is swift and friendly and there is plenty of room to sit outside; of course with great chicken monitoring all your food :P Definitely swing by and grab the goods here, you will not be disappointed. read more

I had malasadas for the first time ever and tried them at this place. I would not be able to compare the quality of with a competitor, however the flavors I ordered were pretty good. Came here to try their malasadas after seeing them recommended online! Want to lead with: that's the only thing we tried. I would definitely come back to try other menu items and re-rate as the menu looked great and the staff were so kind and lovely. That being said, the malasadas this day were not fantastic. Leonard's in Honolulu is my baseline and I found the bread part pretty good (light and fluffy) but the cream fillings were way too sweet and some seemed artificially flavored. We had an orange one that I think was supposed to be mango but tasted like skittles. They also were really brightly colored with food coloring, which is generally not my preference. read more

Fresh, hot, made in-house - everything we had was freshly made and delicious!!! The malasadas arrived warm and the coconut filling was amazing (no pic of that because it went directly in my mouth). Amazing malasadas! Although people said to go at opening, we went at 830 and there wasn't really a line and still plenty of pastries and malasadas. Tip: they only sell fresh malasadas on Tues Thurs and Sunday! I got a recommendation from a friend to go here. We are crazy donut people so wasn't sure if we'd like malasadas. We were pleasantly surprised and they were warm fresh and delicious! The filling flavors were mild so I couldn't really tell a huge difference. I liked both the matcha and Nutella. My husband had vanilla bean and ube and said they were good too. We ordered their paniolo breakfast sandwich for some protein based on good reviews of their sandwiches. However my husband said it wasn't good and lacked flavor. I'd probably pass on it. Overall, worth a try for malasadas when you're on the island! You won't be disappointed. read more

I still remember my first hot Malasada on Maui in 1986. Since then,my radar is up on every trip to the islands. That first one has never been matched however,they're usually all good. My Ube Got Malasada today was perfect. Not too sweet with the subtle sweet potato flavor coming thru. I also had an island made chorizo, breakfast sandwich. Delicious. Came here on a Saturday morning with my wife and enjoyed a paniolo and two malasadas! Be warned! We came around 10am and the Ube, POG, and Lilikoo cream filled malasadas were all sold out! We enjoyed the coconut and mango malasadas and loved every bite of our paniolo. Everything is made fresh upon ordering, but service is fast and the team makes great conversation. Second time here and just absolutely marvelous! If you want to try an authentic local food you HAVE to try the Loco Moco! Today we had the beef loco with fried rice... we usually get white rice but this was so much bettah! And you definitely need the malasadas...made fresh to order. Tried the matcha Malasada today and wow! Everyone has a smile on their face. Happy service makes happy food! Enjoy your selections on the patio and soak in the Hawaiian ambiance with the plumeria. read more
