My mom and I had the pleasure of coming here two times on our trip to Kauai. The first time, we ordered an iced Mac nut latte and breakfast burrito to share before a hike. We ordered ahead online because we saw how long the line can get. Just a heads up, you pick up all online orders at the back of the store. I got a strawberry milk matcha and my mom got an iced Maui mocha. I preferred the mocha compared to the matcha. Only reason for the 3 stars is that they forgot about my order and forgot to make my drink. This was one of the best meals I have had in Hawaii. Java Kai is acute outdoor coffee shop beneath palms accompanied by view of the ocean and fragrant crosswind breezes. Service was outstanding and the food was delicious. The Kalua pork sandwich was actually spicy which I wasn't expecting, but I think made my meal even better since I love spice. We got a macadamia latte with macadamia milk and a blended Maui mocha. The macadamia latte was extremely bitter for a latte and the blended mocha had WAY too much chocolate. The avocado toast I ordered was yummy. It had a good amount of avocado with pickled onion & radish topped with some furikake. So yummy!!! We took ours to go, as a sudden downpour came on. There are signs that alert you to the fact that they take their time to do the food right, and that was the case with us, but it didn't seem too long. Nice, friendly service as well. Got the Surfer Girl sandwich on an everything bagel. It was so great! Grab your napkins on this one. The aioli was generously portioned into the bagel. A delicious mess! We love this place. Food and coffee are super good. In particular, I really like the acai bowls, but I have also had the avocado tost and vegan pastries that were super good. The coffee store is kind of small with not much seating inside and a few tables outside. This hasn't been a big deal as we typicaly take our food to-go and have it on the road. The coffee shop opens up to a clothing store that is cute next door too. The people, decor, and food/drinks are all great and we will continue to go back whenever we are on the island. read more
