My friend and I were staying at the Hampton Inn so we decided to order take out since it was a 1 minute walk. The restaurant looked cute though on the inside. My friend did the california roll dinner portion which she said was delicious. I did the steak & shrimp hibachi dinner with fried rice and miso soup and it was so good but lots of food! The vegetables were okay.

Exceeded expectations. The staff was super accommodating in letting us move our seats to the bar. The fish quality was better than I expected and I loved the sashimi platter app especially. The space was a little crowded, but that's because so many people were there for the lovely food! Love this place.

Was craving sushi and I went a little over board with ordering, in my opinion, sushi was decent but the rest of the stuff that we ordered was meh. In the words of my bro, if you going to charge premium price for the appetitzers it better live up to the price in which it didn't. Tom Yam Soup $13.00 -Tastes nothing like tom yum, it's suppose to be spicy and limey, but all you can taste and fresh shrimp dropped into the soup, it was very fishy. Seaweed Salad $6.95 -Alright Thai Lettuce Wrap (Hot & Spicy) $10.95 -meh didn't really have that much flavor to it. Pork Gyoza $5.95 -something outta the freezer, i'm a couple of bucks from buying a whole bag at the freezer. Shumai $5.50 -The pieces were tiny, not your dim sum size shumai, tastes like something outta the freezer. HB Filet Mignon & Chicken (Dinner) $27.95 -didn't taste the filet mignon part of it, meat was cooked through when I wanted it medium well. It was ok flavor wise. There was so much liquid inside the container, hibachi is suppose to be stir fried and DRIED. Drunken Noodles (Hot & Spicy) $12.00 + Chicken $2.00 -stay away from this dish, does not taste like anything, no flavoring at all. You would need to hit up a thai restaurant for good drunken noodles or chinese restaurant for chow fun. They didn't have beef as an option either. California Roll $6.50 -meh, CR tastes the same everywhere you go, it's so basic. Capital Roll $15.95 -this was decent Godzilla Roll (8 Pcs) $15.95 -this was decent too Rainbow Roll (8 Pcs) -decent Sushi tasted fresh, it was probably the most decent part of the meal for me. Anything else I would not order was meh to me.

OMG! What an experience! Our family is visiting from Seattle and we have some awesome sushi over there. The staff was very friendly and helpful with suggestions when we were trying to figure out what to order. Kids loved the fish pond that was greeting them as soon as we entered. The atmosphere was very friendly as well. We did 2 of the Group B sets that had sashimi, nigiri, and your choice of 2 special rolls. We also added the sweet potato and something else for my cousin who doesn't like seafood. Kids loved the boats that they were served on. The fish was very fresh and cured nicely. The special rolls were pretty fun and well put together. We had gotten the Ashburn, Sunset, Lobster, and Passion special rolls.

Really nice sushi restaurant in town and we went purely off of the positive reviews (which I will contribute to!) For our appetizers we got the Gyoza (5/10) (it was ok...gas we tried it but could have done without it). We also got the Roti Canai (8/10) that was very flavorful and I would absolutely get that again. I was pleasantly surprised to see a dish like this in a largely Japanese restaurant. You also can't go wrong with any of the rolls you get, all will be good!

First experience dining at Passion Fin and was pleased we chose to try it out. Very unique rolls and reasonable prices. Service was friendly and very quick for sushi restaurant with a good crowd. I look forward to going back to try other menu options. Don't miss this!

We ordered the drunken noodles and two sushi rolls. The drunken noodles did not have any flavor so we had to ask for spices, salt, and soy sauce to give it some flavor. It tasted much better with adding some spicy spices and salt to it. The sushi was alright as well. Not the worst I've had but also not the best I have. The service was great. The lady became very concerned when we asked for spice and salt and seemed to really care that the food was not seasoned well. That was appreciated. The location is near lots of things making it very convenient.

Tl;dr - wowzers was I surprised! The food is great! Legit I was surprised like... whoa! I would never have expected great sushi at a place in Gainesville... foreal!? We dined for two and we were seated at a small two person table, and the place itself looked nice and cute. We were starving before we got there, and our stomachs ended up ordering LOL. We ordered Soft Shell Crab for appetizer and a Pineapple Fried Rice with chicken. Since we were at a sushi resto we also decided to order the Sushi House Platter B. House Platter B included 16 Pcs. of Sashimi, 8 Pcs of sushi and choice of two special Rolls. (Served with House Salad or Miso Soup)... we ended up getting the Amazing Roll and Deluxe Rainbow Roll as our special rolls. Remember how I said we sat at a small table? Lol the waitress asked if we wanted to move to a bigger table after we ordered. Smart move for sure! EVERYTHING tasted great and the fish all tasted fresh. It was way better than most sushi places you'll find in the DMV. Yes I know I'm surprised too! I will definitely be coming back

On the fence here. My Sushi was delicious when we went a few months back. Decided to try the Hibachi chicken... That failed ...not good... probably won't order that again. Getting ready to go try again soon... Hoping maybe that was an off day. Our party was in agreement that it lacked being delicious if that was the goal the Hibachi failed to impress. read more

Oh my god! The entrees were horrible! They might as well have served us flavored gelatin. I ordered the Thai basil onion (oops I mean chicken). They must have put an ENTIRE onion in my dish to flavor the gelatin. husband ordered red snapper in chili sauce. The red snapper fish overpowered everything except it didn't taste like red snapper just 'fishy'. Do you like fishy broccoli? Then this is your place. Maybe this is why everyone had sushi... not willing to go back and see if it's good. Ohhhh! The waitress never came to see how the food was so I cant't even give them credit for that! Sorry but I can only say yuck! read more

I have been eating sushi for 35 years. Whoever goes to this place must not eat it much. I love Hamachi. It was not fresh. I usually have the, yum response. Not here. It tasted undress. The unagi had a funny flavor, as well. But, you know something is wrong, when in less than an hour, I had to, well let's just say, run to not have runs in my pants. (I meant to say unfresh.) I never write reviews, but I could not let people keep believing g this place is good. read more

Great food. There were four in our party and everyone enjoyed their food. Atmosphere was nice. Polite and friendly wait staff. The only downside is only beer and wine. So don't expect to have a cocktail before dinner. read more

Brought the family in for a weeknight dinner. We had really great service and food. Wife ordered the 9 piece sushi dinner, I got the chirashi, and my daughter had some a la carte pieces. I also added the toro because you don't see it all too often out here and was curious about how good it would be. We got two sizable piece that had pickled wasabi on top. Very tasty. The sea bass and the Japanese snapper were also hits. The cuts and temp of all the fish were spot on. The only spots for improvement on my visit were the tomago was kinda small and shriveled. And the chirashi pickle was very weak, just three puny pieces of cucumber pickle. Would like to see the chirashi get the 5 star treatment like a lot of their rolls. read more

Newly open in Gainesville. Went in for late lunch. They close at 2:45 for lunch and they sat me for quicky at 2:30 which was nice. Ordered a chirashi which was a little sloppy in a large bowl so hard to get to. Fish was mostly tasteless with good color. Not sure how that happens. I'm going to try again but probably not for the sushi next time. Waitress and host were very friendly and accommodating. read more

Was expecting better quality and service based on other reviews. Quality of sushi was below average average to average at best. Ordered a variety of nigiri and maki rolls. Service was okay. Our server did not know the menu. Maki rolls were drowning in sauces. Sushi rice had no flavor, fish was a little too warm and because they used slices of lemon as garnish in between nigiri types, ruined the taste of the sushi. read more

Love place I go about twice a week flavor and freshness is always fantastic as expected. The display on which the food is presented is nice and refreshing could use more mixed drinks and beer selection but haven't seen a sushi place do so yet. Don't be afraid to order online as to go as well I do so offer and quality is still excellent. read more

Service was great, but sushi...not so much. Bland soggy sushi rolls are not my idea of good. The Lemongrass soup had WAY too much "pepper" of some kind. The Thai Basil chicken was not bad but the portion was small, the chicken was a bit rubbery and it was expensive for the quality and portion size. The Calamari and Thai Lettuce Wrap was pretty good though. Overall I would give it a C or C+. I like Indy Sushi Hot Pot in Centreville much better, Viet Flavor in Bristow for Vietnamese and Faang in Warrenton for Thai. read more

I love their sushi. If you like sashimi I highly recommend their sashimi dinner! Their sea urchin is supper buttery and soft! If you're going to order a set they plate it on a large sushi ship and it's a very nice touch. One thing though is that the servers never smiles or seems happy. They're not rude and will do their job, but not with a happy attitude. And this was the case for the past 4-5 times I've been there so it's not just you haha! read more

Walking to the door, Asking Hostess for a seat of 8 people this afternoon in the boot area. She looks in to my eyes and seem its a lot of works to her. She kicks the table and chairs together with her foot and asks other severs who's having lunch to leave the area ( this is at Noon, today). Great food and great service. My daughter wanted to get sushi at Osaka for her birthday but they were closed. We are so happy that we found passion fin. The sushi was fresh and beautifully prepared. When the waiter herd me say it was my daughters birthday he asked us to wait a moment. He brought her out fried ice cream with a candle. We were all really full but the fried ice cream was so delicious that we decimated it. The staff was probably the friendliest we have encountered in a long time! read more

We've been anticipating their opening since my wife saw a post mentioning passion Finn on Facebook. We ordered the shrimp and chicken hibachi meals and we were not disappointed. They were awesome! Our 9 and 7 yr olds loved it also. Although they don't do the table side cooking we are happy there's a great hibachi place local. We tried all the others in the Gainesville area and these guys are the best. About to order some take out again right now. Hoping they remain consistent. read more

Everything here sucked. Was excited for a close sushi place but literally everything was bad! The bill was wrong, our order didn't come out (was missing things) sushi was gross...miso soup tasted like watered down cabbage. Just awful awful awful. Will not be back. Please go out of business so sumthing else can go there! read more

This is some of the highest quality and creative sushi that I have tasted. I was so impressed and I wanted to order everything off the menu but stuck to only 3 different sushi rolls. Each one was delicious, large, and full of uniqueness. It was my first time at this newer sushi place and I am delighted to go back to try more. read more

Best sushi I've had in VA. Maybe closer to the city has better places that can compete, but the dozen or so Sushi joints I've been to in NoVa is no comparison. I even like Sushi On in Fairfax but this place is better. Epic Scallop roll is the best and I never like tempura sushi but you can barely tell it's been fried and the scallop still tastes like scallops, not deep fried tempura batter. It was delicate and delicious. read more

We started with a bunch of appetizers for the table and cocktails. Appetizers included the bacon tower, fried green tomatoes, hushpuppies, crispy chicken wings, and Mediterranean garlic shrimp. Dinner entreés were jambalaya pasta, the American wagyu burger, pulled short rib rigatoni and branzino almondine. There were zero complaints. We enjoyed EVERYTHING!! The bourbon butter cake with vanilla ice cream for dessert literally took me over the top. My belly was ready to burst :) Our waiter was attentive throughout the entire time and everything we ordered came out perfect. I must go back soon. It is a distance from where I live but there's so many things on the fabulous menu I want to try.

Passion Fin in Gainesville has consistently impressed me with their incredible sushi. In the three times I've been there, the sushi has been nothing short of amazing. My personal favorite is the Godzilla roll, which is a must-try for not only sushi lovers, but Godzilla fans as well. The ambiance could use a little enhancement, though. It would be great if they had some music or background noise to fill the silence, especially during quieter moments. However, this minor issue doesn't overshadow the overall dining experience. The servers at Passion Fin are attentive and very friendly. They make you feel welcome and ensure that your needs are met. However, during my last visit, there was a slight hiccup in the service. Despite arriving just 15 minutes after opening and being the third table to be seated, we had to wait close to an hour for our sushi order. This delay was unexpected and slightly frustrating. Despite the wait, the overall deliciousness of the food and the service have earned Passion Fin a loyal customer in me, so they have plenty of opportunities to improve and reach a solid 5-star rating.
