Only returned because it's next door to a favorite European bakery. Ordered their burrata but there is no cooking involved - Just prosciutto, greens and tomatoes. Tomatoes were grainy and tasteless. Pasta dish ordered was just okay. SERVICE was DREADFUL! Pleasant enough waitress. Ordered an appetizer to be followed by a pasta - both to be split plus glasses of wine. Just after we started eating the appetizer, the pasta was delivered - way too soon. Also no bread, oil or vinegar, salt or pepper - had to ask for all. I have loved Pasta Beach in Boston for years and then I realized they had another location in Rhode Island. I was a happy girl! I've been to Italy many, many times and Pasta Beach is pretty darn close to the real deal when it comes to Italian food. The Rhode Island location ambiance is very nice and they even have some outside seating for perfect weather nights. Their windows to the restaurant all open so even if you are sitting inside, it feels like you are outside. The food has always been delicious and we always start with a bottle of some wonderful wine, then enjoy the bread they serve with the oil. Make sure to ask for cheese when they bring the bread because adding cheese into the oil and then dipping the bread into it will start your dinner off nicely. Don't worry about carbs on a weekend! We have yet to make reservations here as I never know where I am going to be and at what time and fortunately we've been able to get a bar seat which overlooks the kitchen (which to me is one of my favorite things at to look at while in a restaurant). I'm lucky, I can go to Pasta Beach in Boston while at work and go to Pasta Beach in Rhode Island while driving home from the casino or if I just want to take a 1 hour drive from home for dinner. Great spot for lunch near Wayland square! Loved the clean, urban interior when you walk in. Good amount of seating present. Just stopped by because I was in the area nearby. I used to love this place but the food has truly gone downhill. I ordered a gluten free pasta dish. They did not cook the pasta long enough, it was still crunchy-not al dente. The pesto gnocchi was just overwhelming with basil. The carbonara was not like it used to be. Just all in all a waste of over 300 dollars. The waitress should have taken my meal off the bill as she could tell I didn't eat more than 2 bites. A perceptive waitress would have known better. I sat at an empty bar on Mother's Day and kept having to ask the bartenders for assistance every step of the way. One of the bartenders stood off in the distance and didn't really seem like she contributed to much of anything. I waited about 20+ minutes for simple appetizers and had to get the bartenders attention to place the entree order. Had been wanting to try out one of Pasta Beach's locations in Providence, Newport, or Boston. Visited the Providence one for dinner with my boyfriend and his parents for a small celebration! So cute inside. I love the decor and the large hanging light sculptures. There was a pretty big crowd for a late Wednesday night. We didn't arrive until about 8 pm and we were pretty much the only ones left inside when we were done. The staff was really friendly and helpful. There were so many different pastas and pizzas to choose from that sounded delicious. I went with the tagliatelle fungi dish which was really fresh egg noodle pasta with a light cream sauce, plenty of garlic, and mushrooms. My boyfriend's mom had the bolognese which was great too! Wayland Square is one my favorite little areas in Providence to walk around and this restaurant fits in perfectly. read more

They were great putting a heat lamp by our table when requested but took a very long time to bring our bread and wine. In fact, one girls salad at the table came before our table bread. Drink this beer all the time. It's the best Pilsner. - any of their salads...they are well balanced and fresh. Had the one with pumpkin in it...which was slightly chewy, but real good with the Dijon dressing. - the pepperoni and olive pizza, which had this delicate and fresh sauce that balanced sweet and acid perfectly. Fantastic service and great ambiance. Agree with many other reviewers that the food was underwhelming and pricey. It's impressive they make their pastas, breads, and pizza doughs in house. With that said, everything tastes only fine. I'm usually quite sensitive to oversalted food, and I had to add a substantial amount of cheese, salt, and pepper to everything. The tagliatelle with mushrooms was quite plain - creamy, very small bits of mushrooms, that's about it. There were some bites where the pasta stuck together and had an over-aldente chew. The lemon chicken special with creamed spinach was lovely and light, but I had to add so much salt for there to be even some remote savoriness. We arrived about 7 minutes early. We ordered quickly. The wine was served right away. Then it's a good thing we had a lot to talk to our friends about. Bread didn't even show up for a good 1/2 hour or more. Then the bread was long gone before we got our meal, approx 45 minutes to 1 hour after ordering. It consisted of 12 small greens and 5 slices of tomato. The greens were limp. The tomatoes were low end and tasteless. McDonald's has a better side salad. The main was fried chicken bread. The breading was tasty, but the chicken breast was absurdly thin. The price was north of $30 and I could get a tastier and larger chicken breast from a $5 stouffers TV dinner. I went with the Tagliatelle ai Funghi (pasta with mushrooms and cream/cheese sauce). I typically like my pasta a little softer than al dente but after having it al dente here, I might just think twice about my life choices. The cream sauce was delicious but I just wished i had gotten a bit more for the price (I think it was ~$16). The portion seemed a bit small. My bf got the gnocchi for about the same price and he def got a good portion. He really enjoyed it - the gnocchi weren't too heavy and he requested in the spicy Arrabbiata sauce. Note : you can request a protein for your pasta, however it will not be placed on top of the pasta but rather on the side. I'm guessing as to not ruin the integrity of any one pasta dish. Veronica (I think that was her name) deserved a star alone in this rating. She was prob one of the best servers I'd ever had anywhere! She was friendly and super attentive without being overbearing. My family visited the Providence location on November 19th and I wanted to share our experience and how disappointed we were on how it was handled. My wife received her pasta dish and it was cold. We brought it to the attention of the server and she apologized and said that she would bring it to the attention of the kitchen staff. There was no offer to remake the entree. Not sure how this happened as the other 2 pasta dishes we had at table were fine. The server returned and offered free dessert. Free dessert? Really disappointing. I expected the dish to be removed from the bill as it did not meet our expectations (or the restaurants). We really did not want to make a big deal of it at the restaurant, so we declined dessert, paid the $200.00 bill and left. I would think that an establishment like Pasta Beach Providence would have more of a customer service approach to their clientele and do whatever it takes to make things right. There was no effort by a manager to come over see what they could do. Surprising. This was our first visit to the Providence location and most likely our last. I also sent my concerns directly to the restaurant. Surprise.....no response after over a week. Save your hard earned money and go someplace else. I LOVE pasta beach!!! The service is always good. I really like the ambiance as it is very modern and trendy. The complimentary bread came with oil and balsamic.. i wish the bread was warm.... I got a Shirley temple which was very good. I also got the pepperoni pizza and added garlic. I am a long-time fan of the original Newport location, but stayed away from the Providence spot because of the mixed reviews. Not tonight! We stuck with our go-to favorites, because they are our favorites and just to be sure we weren't swayed by the lovely contemporary interior alone. And... the penne arriabata did not disappoint and was, as we'd hoped, complemented (and balanced, from a spice perspective) perfectly by the lovely crusty margherita pizza. Service was fine - although tbh, strangely too fast. Like, meal served within 5 minutes of ordering fast. So, 4 stars because it felt like we couldn't even settle in before it was time to eat, and clearly we were left wondering if some things were precooked tonight. The space is quite appealing. Open and modern, and very clean. Very nice spacious restrooms, gorgeous wooden floors, mix of table sizes and heights. What I expected of Pasta Beach, but not necessarily what other reviewers experienced, sadly!
