Spaghetti with marinara and meatballs

Who was amazing came out piping hot delicious the sauce is really sweet. The service and ambience is unforgettable nice place to eat kind of a mom and pop little dive Italian place.

Jalapeno Gnocchi

Absolutely fantastic food! We were walking by and caught the smells and said we'd come back later. Thank god we did. Great food, great service, reasonably priced! We got the Jalepeno Gnocchi (bottom) and some other dish (top). Asparagus as an appetizer was the perfect choice.

This pasta place is a cute spot in Lincoln park. The pasta was fair, not my favorite for the area. However, it's a great casual spot to meet up with friends. The service was great as well!!

My husband and I booked an adventure in the city that takes us around little restaurants in Lincoln Park to "collect" food and end with a picnic in Oz Park and just... so much fun! This is where we got our salads. The cucumber salad was fabulous.

Baked Goat Cheese

We came around 7pm on a Monday. Service was prompt, friendly, and the overall vibe of the restaurant was good. I'd definitely come back and get the same dish. I'm still thinking about the jalapeño gnocchi with chicken! The spicy sauce, the pillowy gnocchi, everything about it was so so good. We also got the baked goat cheese as an appetizer which was very, very good as well. I did try the red sangria which was pretty basic, but got the job done for sure.

Spaghetti Frutti Di Mare

I'm glad we finally stumbled into this place. The open kitchen concept of this casual pasta joint is nice until you start smelling very strongly when leaving the establishment. Service was quick though and food was decent with good portions and prices. Nothing special as I've definitely had better Italian food in the area, but I can see how this would satisfy a pasta craving! Wine also interestingly came in little cups rather than a wine glass. We got the grilled calamari to start, and this was a small portion of just four large pieces. Though delicious, I wasn't a fan of the small unshareable size. We also got the large mixed greens salad, which was a nice fresh portion and enjoyed the complimentary bread with the calamari sauce. For our entrees, we got the crab ravioli that was on special and the Spaghetti Frutti Di Mare. I liked the sauce and flavor of the spaghetti much better than the crab ravioli. Finally, we were tempted by the carrot cake on the dessert menu and decided to give it a try - again nothing special and tasted store bought. Overall, I'm glad we tried the spot, but we didn't love what we got.

Penne Funghi
Rohit D.

I randomly came across this place while waiting for my bus (the stop was right outside). I saw the food on people's tables and immediately wanted to give it a try. We ordered quite a bit, starting with appetizers. The grilled portobello mushroom was good- the mushroom itself was really good. The baked goat cheese, though, was amazing. The marinara sauce was super flavorful and paired perfectly with it. The free bread wasn't great, it was cold and hard. Honestly, I'd rather they just skip it than serve it like that. For mains, we tried their vegetarian sandwich, which was really tasty. The bread was soft enough to enjoy without feeling dry or chewy. We also went for three pastas: Penne Funghi Jalapeño Gnocchi Ravioli The jalapeño gnocchi was hands-down the winner. Definitely recommend trying it. The ravioli and penne funghi were good too. Overall, the food was great and our server was friendly with solid recommendations. The place itself is decent, not super fancy, honestly feels more like somewhere I'd order from at home rather than sit down for a long meal. Prices were fair and we got to try a good variety. If you're in the mood for pasta and don't want to overthink it, this spot is worth checking out.

Ravioli in pesto and red sauce

A Delicious Surprise After a Disappointment After showing up at Soul Prime and finding it closed, I decided to try this restaurant instead -- and what a great choice that turned out to be! The host was excellent, walking me through the menu, explaining how the ravioli would be made from scratch, and even offering to add shrimp. He also suggested mixing the red and pesto sauces, which was absolutely delicious. I had zero regrets about my meal. The food was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly prepared. On top of that, the atmosphere was exciting -- I loved being able to watch the chefs cook, with flames leaping from the pans right in front of us. What started as a disappointment turned into a truly enjoyable dining experience. Great service, great food, and a lively energy -- I'll definitely be back!

Red Sangria
Megh L.

First time customer. Pros: -nice staff -easy to get a table around the dinner hour mid-week -not much wait time between time of ordering and getting food -red sangria was decent Cons: -while red sangria was tasty, there wasn't much of it, so much of it was just ice -pasta was not good - hardly ate it as it was not that hot temperature wise and bread was inedible - felt like I almost broke a tooth just trying to chew it I'm giving the place a C+ (2.5 stars would be more accurate than 3).

Conchiglie Classico
Preston O.

I love this walk up only italian spot not only for watching them masterfully cook right friggin there but also the list of non stop home run dishes to choose from. Cavatappi Pollo is my favorite thing here by a long shot. Yum yum yum Service is always fast and friendly - great side recommendation with the Baked Goat. Love the communal styled tables so I could drool over everyone else's dishes.

Gnocchi, Bruschetta, Sangria
Hunter K.

Our server was attentive and very knowledgeable about the menu. We had various diet restrictions that he was able to make great suggestions for. Everything tasted wonderful. It was nice to watch them make everything fresh, and to be able to choose whatever sauce you wanted with whichever pasta. In a cute part of town. Small but inviting.

Wonderful and very delicious dining experience. Our first time here and definitely will not be our last. We will most likely take the train the next time since parking is almost impossible. The Linguine Pesto-Cream and the Farfalle Pomodoro Formaggio was absolutely delicious. The service was outstanding and so very friendly. Wonderful dine!!

Cavatappi pollo

The pasta here is delicious and simple. It's one of the more affordable pasta places I've seen in Chicago, with a straightforward menu. We went on a weekday, and even then, it was packed. Don't expect high-end presentation or service like at other pasta places in the city--just a casual spot to get your pasta fix and hang out with friends or family.

Normally I hate those kinds of large group dinners, but this was the perfect spot for it. The service was absolutely wonderful. I don't know how our server stayed so cool and calm with a group that size. We got a variety of things. EVERYTHING was amazing. If you have seen any of my other reviews, I always get a meatball when I'm at a place that has them. They almost never live up to my expectation. But this place has the new gold standard for a meatball. It was everything you want. It is fork tender, full of flavor, no chewy ground up bits. The pizzas were authentic and thin. With fabulous house made red sauce that wasn't too thick and overwhelming. The flavor was A+ The cocktails were so good! All made from scratch with love. The ambiance was cozy and comfortable. We had visited Florence last year, and one of the numerous wonderful moments of our trip to Italy was seeing "Il Porcellino" - the lucky bronze boar fountain that draws tourists from around the world. A copy of the boar stands proudly near the entrance of the restaurant, and though it is not as old as the original 1634 sculpture, it was a charming reminder of our amazing Italian holiday. Did I mention that the weekday Happy Hour (4-6PM) specials are quite good? The specials are served only at the bar area, so you might have to wait a few minutes for available seating. We started with some drinks, including two kinds of Negroni. The wild mushroom arancini (5 little balls for $6) were the smallest I've tried, but they were creamy and melt-in-your mouth delicious. The whipped ricotta and jam beautifully served on a strip of toasty focaccia was a unique taste sensation. Prime beef meatballs and short rib sliders on toasted ciabatta bread also hit the spot. Even though we were merely dining at the bar, we enjoyed the overall vibe of the restaurant. There are lots of photos on the walls, interesting lighting from the ceiling, nice serving dishes, and servers who seem to know who their regular diners are. We look forward to returning to Il Porcellino, to bask in that indescribable feeling of being in Italy again.

It's one of those places that you find yourself talking about long after the meal is over. The garlic bread alone is worth the visit. They pour what feels like a gallon of garlic butter over it, and somehow it's still never enough. It's rich, indulgent, and absolutely delicious. We order it every single time and would probably be disappointed if we didn't. The real star of the show, though, is the lasagna. Between the two of us, we've had lasagna at countless restaurants, and nothing has come close to this one. It's hands down the best lasagna we've ever had. Perfect layers, incredible flavor, and the kind of comfort food that makes you want to savor every bite. Their Grey Goose espresso martini is also unmatched. We've tried espresso martinis all over Chicago, and this one is still our favorite. It's smooth, perfectly balanced, and the ideal way to start or end the meal. The atmosphere is another reason we love coming here. The restaurant is gorgeous inside, with a dark, moody vibe that makes it feel special without being stuffy. It's the perfect date night spot whether you're celebrating something or just looking for a great night out together. If you're visiting Chicago and love Italian food, Il Porcellino is a must. Great food, amazing drinks, beautiful ambiance, and a meal you'll be thinking about long after you've left. We make a point to visit every time we're in town, and it never disappoints.

I would say it's a romantic setting, a bit dark in the restaurant. Us old folks needed the table lamp to read the menu better. I had read good things about the meatballs and bread as an appetizer so we shared that. Five meatballs, I got two. I thought they should have been hotter but I still enjoyed them. The wife wasn't impressed. Not sure about the younger folks. We shared a bottle of Classico Chianti, Montescondo which was very good. Boyfriend had the braised beef short rib. He seemed to enjoy it. Daughter had gnocchi. Wifey had Bucatini Amatriciana while I ate penne bolognese. Wifey and I shared an order of chicken Parmesan. So much of it the kids took home almost half. The wife had wanted to get the tagliatelle carbonara but with certain ingredients. They weren't sure if they could do it since the sauce was already made. She switched to the Bucatini but the server came back later with the carbonara for her to enjoy on the house. They are very nice here. Daughter was given a celebration baby gelato she enjoyed by the restaurant. We ordered two tiramisu deserts. They were #$@& Hugh.
