La Concha Bakery is one of my all time favorite panaderia's. Located in the heart of Chula Vista,…read moreit is a family-owned bakery that specializes in traditional pan dulce (Mexican sweet bread), and custom cakes! Known for their fresh, daily-baked pastries, it features a self-service (tray-and-tongs) experience in a clean, welcoming environment! The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. Always making great recommendations for their customers! Parking can be a bit tricky with very few spaces available. Pricing is somewhat higher than it used to be, but then again so is everything else (like gas, lol). They have a great selection of conchas, polvorones, fresh bolillos, empanadas (chicken, beef, jalapeño cream cheese), and custom cakes! Typically, I get the empanadas de piña 10/10! They're so freaking delicious! They feature a golden, buttery, and flaky crust that shatters perfectly when bitten. Inside, they're filled with a rich, jammy pineapple filling that balances bright, tropical sweetness with a sharp, fruity tartness! Highly recommended!

The moment you walk through the door, the smell of fresh baked pan hits you and it is everything. The selection of pan dulce and bolillos had me feeling like I was back in Mexico City. So many options, beautifully displayed. That part alone almost made the trip worth it. But the customer service... yeah, I'm not the only one who noticed. I asked the lady at the register in Spanish if there was any chocolate pan de muerto and she completely ignored me. Like, didn't even look up. Just called someone from the back in Spanish, which, mija, I understood every word. The girl who came to help me was a little better but not much. She told me the chocolate pan de muerto was sold out, which fine, I get it, it was a holiday. But that's literally all you had to say. No smile, no "sorry we're out," nothing. Just took my money and that was that. The panadería itself deserves five stars. The staff needs some work. I'll probably go back for the pan because it really is that good, but I'm keeping my expectations low on the service side.

A nice little cake to share or enjoy on your own. I also got to sample a monster cookie, a chocolate chip with shaved Oreos mixed in. Another very tasty nice little snack. The chocolate chip ones were small yet classic, hitting that perfect balance - not too hard, with a slightly toasted bottom and a soft, gooey inside! The red velvet cookies were thinner than expected, lacking a bit of structure but making up for it in taste. I could easily eat 10 of these before getting that hot feeling from my blood sugar rising. They almost resembled a cake cookie, and the red velvet flavor was pretty spot on. I like that little chocolate chip pieces were mixed inside to add texture and a bit of chocolatey sweetness. I found myself digging in the bag for more as it was quite easy and addicting to eat. Customer service gets an A+ for being super responsive and accommodating for my schedule. Overall, a great experience for a small business starting out. I would definitely order from her again!

Absolutely phenomenal cake, perfectly sweet but not too sweet, incredible texture and incredibly moist but not too wet like some tres leche cakes can be. Very impressed and felt like the price $45 was fair for such a fresh, delicious and big cake. We had half the cake left over from 6 adults and one child. My Dad loved it, thanks for the amazing cake and for being so helpful helping me pick which would be best. All around great experience and I can't wait to try other ones. They have tons of different flavors and if looking for something specific, i was told it's best to order ahead either online or over the phone. Which I'll definitely be doing the snickers tres leche for my Dad next.

They have a big variety of cakes all ready to go in their cake display. I chose the chocobombon since they didn't have any all vanilla cakes and this one had some vanilla in it and my husbands favorite is vanilla. I really liked that they had candles and cake decorations as well in the store and I bought a few Birthday embellishments which were all $1 each, great price! The staff was nice but not too friendly when I was trying to find out more about the cakes and flavors, I had to read the labels since she didn't provide me any details. The cake was just okay, it was very dense and a bit dry. The marshmallow frosting was a little thick and the overall flavors were definitely different but not sure I would get this flavor again. I would like to try a few more flavors and maybe a tres leches cake to see how those are. It is located in Chula Vista in a small shopping center, limited parking available.

The bride and groom asked for carrot cake for the bottom layer and marbled cake on top. Based on the reviews and pictures left on her Yelp page, I was very eager to see the final product and was thrilled when I finally met with her on the day we scheduled for pickup. The cake was perfect and almost an exact replica of picture I had sent her from Pinterest. "Almost" because her cake looked better! It was apparent that Risa took her time to delicately put it together and that baking is a passion for her. She also built a custom box for me to transport it; secured very carefully and thoroughly. Skipping to the wedding reception, it was even more of a surprise when we tasted the cake... especially the carrot cake. Many people (myself included) said it was the best they've ever tasted! Risa guarantees that, "every dessert will... be fresh and delicious" as well as, "visually pleasing in every way". My experience attests to that!
