I recently had a milestone birthday party and ordered a large red velvet and brownie cake after tasting samples from several other local bakeries. None of them even remotely came close to the flavor and visual appeal of Babycakes. The cake is the main dish of any birthday party and boy did they knock it out of the park, exceeding my expectations - especially at such an affordable price. The service here was great. Friendly staff and had good comments about flavors which I appreciated. We ordered some cupcakes (dulce de leche and chocolate raspberry) and a peanut butter bar. They were all great. The center of the cupcakes were creamy and delicious! My friend ordered the sampler to see which flavor she wants to order for her wedding cake and I was lucky enough to join the tasting! After many calls to several custom bakeries, I came across Babycakes. Cassie was amazing with her communication and Insite. I sent her a pic with a description of my vision for a birthday cake for my girlfriend and she and her team by far exceeded my expectations. Cassie and the whole team were so kind and understanding and patient with me when I changed the date about 4-5 times. My cake was so cute, but once we cut into it, it was pretty much 50-70% icing. I won't be returning. The staff seemed miserable; especially the man behind the counter who just stood there with his hands on his hips. No one bothered to say hello or greet me (and I was the only one in the store). Also, no goodbye or thanks; very awkward. I've been to other locations; the cupcakes at this specific location were not fresh; I don't know if they were previously frozen but the cupcakes were definitely a few days old. Bought 6, ate two and threw the remaining in the trash. A total waste of money and time. I have visited this establishment twice and I have very much enjoyed the ambience and customer service provided. It is very cute and cozy. The staff were cheerful and extremely pleasant the entire time we were there. On both occasions my girlfriends and I overextended our visit because we lost track of time trying to catch up on each other. I really appreciate the staff for not attempting to rush us out. We had not seen each other in a long time. My favorites are the blood orange and tres leches cupcakes along with a nice cup of their americano. Overall pretty good! We ordered a 10inch Strawberry Shortcake, which was delicious. We also ordered 2 dozen of the mini cupcakes (chocolate and salted caramel), which was also very good. I appreciate the time the put into the details, it showed. The cake was beautiful. The flowers were perfect and I loved the color pink. The only think I would change next time would be to get whipped cream topping instead of buttercream. I think the frosting may have been made with lard and it was really hard to clean up. I ordered through the website, which was super easy. I feel like the price was fair; not the cheapest spot but not the most expensive either. This spot is close to my house, so pick up was super convenient. Everyone I interacted with was helpful and nice, which is appreciated. I ordered some cupcakes for my gender reveal. I was under the impression I would receive a call when they were ready as this is what I was told. Never got a call and when we went to pick them up they were closed. Their miscommunication ruined my gender reveal. Also when I placed the order in person we bought a cupcake to try. That cupcake was supper dry and crumbly, horrible cupcake. I was sad thinking I just ordered bad cupcakes. When I finally picked them up (the day after they were suppose to be ready) the ordered cupcakes were great. Even 3 days later they were amazing. This makes me question how old that one cupcake that was terrible was. It must've been at least 1+ week old. Embarrassing they would sell that to me knowing they'd see me back when I came to pick up the order. I walked in and it was quiet empty around 7 pm on a weekday. They had so much options to much from ! Tres leches looked bomb but I chose the sprinkle one that was half blue and pink IT WAS GOOD. One was enough to make me full i even had to save the other half of my cupcake. They give a to go box that looks aesthetic and easy to carry. The white male at the counter was so sweet and nice to me and he offered utensils and napkins which i highly appreciate. On my way out i saw kids park the scooters before coming in and i thought it was so cute and welcoming. Great store and great community! Will be back forsure . Came here during my visit to San Diego. I was pleasantly surprised by the food served for a snack and or a dessert. The cupcakes were wonderful, and even the small plates of food were tasty. The parking around where Babycakes actually isn't too bad for San Diego standards. Babycakes is kind of a lone place sitting outside of downtown. I ordered the macaroni cheese balls, and I was not disappointed. The exterior shell was crunchy while the macaroni inside was still soft and warm. The turtle cupcake was scrumptious too. The cake part of soft and moist, and the icing was not overwhelming. I would recommend this place. San Diego is surprisingly lacking in the desserts department, and Babycakes fulfilled my desire to have some sweet afternoon snacks after coming from the San Diego zoo. read more
