After reading the great reviews, I wandered over to Patacon to try it out. I ordered a shreaded beef plantain sandwich and a pernil arepa sandwich. The plantain sandwich I did not personally like because plantain itself was tough and chewy,(this was my first time having such a sandwich so I do not have anything else I can compare it to) I doubt I will order this type of sandwich again. The Pernil Arepa sandwich on the other hand was awesome, nice crispy corn bread with juicy tender meat filling. SUPER filling sandwich, I was only able to eat half--- I will be back to try all the other items on the menu. I do want to mention that both sandwiches were very messy, a lot of sauce dripping all over the place, so try to eat the sandwich fast before it gets soggy. read more

The food here is so good. I've tried other Venezuelan joints around the area and this one is the best. It's very cozy, the service is OK, nice and friendly. We ordered patacón paisa which is a fried plantain sandwich filled with grilled chicken, chorizo, avocado and sunny side egg. It was very good. We also had a cachapa con queso, which is a sort of crepe made of corn and filled with a white cheese, it was delicious. We ordered two tequeños, similar to cheese sticks, jumbo sized, one of them filled with sweet plantain and cheese, the other just cheese, very good. For drinks we had Papelón con limón, a brown sugar cane lemonade. It was very very sweet, you could add a small cup of water and share it. The music is nice Latin music, not too loud... This place is really good! I would have given them 5 stars if it wasn't for the patacon I had in Miami.. I was introduced to patacons while I was in Florida, but that particular hidden place made patacons that just cannot be compared.. Now back in New York, I was craving patacons and looked up places and chose this location due to the reviews. This place made really tasty and filling patacons, but unfortunately it wasn't on par with what I had in Florida. However I will definitely be back to try more off their menu! As for parking - there are metered parking on the sides of the road. Side note: The tequenos (get one free when you check in on Yelp) is extremely delish!!! Decent arepa joint, but certainly not the best I've ever had. I just ordered a Cachapa, a type of arepa that's made of sweet corn. I had no idea what to pick, so after asking the cashier for customer favorites, went with the Pabellon Cachapa ($9), which has shredded beef, black beans, plantains, and cheese. I opted for shredded chicken instead, which I ended up regretting because it was a bit on the dry side. Overall, it was pretty good in terms of taste, however, I thought the cachapa was also kind of dry. There was also not enough cheese, so I really had to put a generous helping of their sauces (they have 3 kinds!). I came here for pick-up and had to wait around 10-15 minutes. This is a hidden gem. I got the arepa Mexican crispy. I kid you not this was the best arepa I've ever had. It was fried to perfection. The shredded beef was perfect. Ughhh how do I explain my love for the sandwiches here!?? I got the Patacon (plantains) sandwich called the Paisa. They have other options too such as Arepas and burgers and burritos but honestly if you come here for the first time, do yourself a favor and get the Plantain sandwich! The Paisa is one of their pre-made sandwiches, it has grilled steak, chorizo, avocado, sunny side up egg, ketchup and green sauce. For all those avocado lovers out there don't be too disappointed at the amount or lack of avocado, but it's okay because the taste over compensated for it haha. First, let's talk about the plantain "bun"? I thought it would be tough but it was just the opposite! It had a slight sweet taste and the texture was perfect, not tough, not chewy, easy to bite! The chorizo and grilled steak were nicely seasoned and cooked, and I thought the quantity was fair! I usually hate ketchup on my sandwiches but the amount that they put was not too overpowering and I honestly couldn't even taste much of it! The egg that was added to the sandwich was just a cherry on top!! It wasn't really a sunny side up but more of an easy over. You won't have egg oozing out of the sandwich lol sorry, but I prefer it that way anyways! Overall I thought the sandwich was worth the price that I paid. I was so full by just eating half the sandwich so I couldn't even eat the other half! I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants to try something new! Lastly! As a loyal customer of Patacon Pisa, I just got off a very disturbing phone call from a Patacon employee. And I just got lied to because in the menu it says that you can get 3 empanadas for $5 and when I asked the Patacon employee they said it was 3 for $8.17 and they said no, but I said yes and even though I said that they still said it was 3 for $8.17 and I was so enraged that my friend had to hang up the call for me. I came here on a lunch break the other day with 3 other coworkers and we all said everything was awesome. We each got something different. Someone got a patacon, another got arepas, and the last got a cachapa. I got the mix tacucho with grilled steak and chorizo. I can't even explain how good it was. What an amazing sandwich! I got the Paisa Plantain Sandwich: grilled steak, chorizo, avocado, sunny side up egg, ketchup and salsa verde. This was such a good sandwich. All those delicious ingredients squeezed between two flattened and fried pieces of plantain. My good ness, this definitely one of my all time favorite sandwich foods. I was excited to try this place. I walked in hungry so the menu was overwhelming. However, the lady who helped us was helpful, and showed us pictures of the food (more for my sixteen year old boy). The food was authentic, delicious, and comes in a large portion. You will not be disappointed. This is a hot spot in the neighborhood, it gets busy. Saw this place on a video via Facebook so I thought I'd give it a try. I'm glad I did. The food here is absolutely amazing. Everything looked so good I didn't know what to get. After a constant back & forth, I finally got the Patacon with pernil (shredded pork) an avocado, and queso blanco. It was honestly so good I had to sit back and make sure it was real life. I've been buying food from this place for years (from their food truck to this spot) and I'm not sure if the pandemic hit them a little harder but almost $15 for a bun sandwich is little out there. Upgrade to 5 stars! I finally tried the Cachapas (sweet corn cake) and it was HUGE! I couldn't finish it. I only got about half way through, so my BF had to finish it. We both loved it, the corn was sweet and made for a perfect sandwich. I know what you're thinking, it must be thick and heavy but actually nope. It's just the perfect thinness so that it doesn't break while your eating it. Also it's light and delicate, the perfect bread for a roast pork sandwich. I think Pernil is my favorite here, but my favorite sandwich is still the Patacones. Plaintain sandwiches filled with juicy meat, such an ingenious idea! I LOVE THIS PLACE! It's the BEST, the BEST! I have to give it 4 stars for the Patacones alone. We saw this on Yelp didn't read the reviews just saw the stars recognized the names and faces and went to get take out after my massage. The restaurant itself is a cleaned up Chinese take out. They did a good job cleaning it up. However it is way too cramped to sit in. The tables are best used for waiting for your take out order. The Patacones reminds me of a dish I used to eat years ago but cant find in NYC at least not done properly.
