First thing, this place is a little hole in the wall. Right across from the university tucked in between Radio Shack and a salon. The food is fantastic. My husband and I absolutely love the food! Fresh, hot, and tasty. The service is usually good, as well! The last time we ate there, there was only one waitress with two tables seated. She took a little while getting our orders because the elderly people at the other table were taking a long time to order. However, she was very friendly, made sure our drinks were always topped off (which I LOVE in a restaurant!), and answered the questions my husband had about the menu. Very friendly staff! I always get a wave and a smile from the chef in the back. They also do takeout! My husband and I did that last night, actually. Turlock California as many know has a huge concentration of Assyrian/Persian population. Patogh Restaurant is like a bridge to that culture without leaving the comforts of the Central Valley. Patogh has a perfect location across the street from CSU Stanislaus off of Monte Vista Ave. Once you step through the doors of the establishment you are welcomed with the smells of Middle East that invites you to sit down and take in the traditions and culture of the Middle East. After visiting the region many times I was suddenly reminded of dining in a small restaurant in the region. The decor and environment were very simple like you would find in a family owned restaurant in the Middle East. The service was one of the best I have ever experienced in this area. This experience reminded me of a home atmosphere that I would experience with my own family. The menu was not very large and it was very user friendly. It had dishes everything from Dolma to Kabobs. I ordered the Hummus with Lavash (unleavened flat bread) and the Gyro plate. The Gyro plate came with a Gyro meat on a homemade flat bread with tomato slices, lettuce, and a side of yogurt. The plate also came with Middle Eastern style rice seasoned with Safron. My friend and I also had traditional Persian/Assyrian tea with homemade sugar. The sugar comes in cubes that is intended to be placed into the mouth while you sip the hot black tea. That traditional/cultural information made the experience fun and enjoyable. I recommend this establishment to anyone that is open to experiencing a taste a cultural that is filled with spice, bold flavors, and hospitality. read more

It was warm and freshly made with spices. We also had thinly sliced chicken and Lamb Kabob that was so tender. The owner was so friendly and helpful. She treats you like a guest in her own home. Visited for the first time today and found out that today is the first anniversary for the new owners. Started with the eggplant appetizer which was light and tasty. We had lamb kabobs and the Soltani which had two different beef skewers. The meats were tender and mildly flavored. We finished with the rice pudding and baklava, both excellent( baklava is too often smothered in honey but this was just right ). The service was friendly and efficient with the food coming quickly and questions answered patiently. We were treated as if we were guests in someone's home and the food reflected the same care.
