There's an old expression, "Pubs not clubs." If you're a fan of that expression, you'll love Patrick's Pub. Old and young, short and tall, whatever your preference, Patrick's is the laid back place you can go into alone or in a group, sit by yourself and contemplate the world's issues, or chat it up with the bartenders or locals to get other's opinions and views. Friday and Saturday nights are the busiest and if you're not their early enough, parking may be an issue. Patrick's shares a parking lot with the motel it's attached to and sometimes it can get quite crowded. In the pub not club theme, there's a jukebox, pool tables, shuffleboard, darts, etc to keep you busy if you're not into people watching and sipping on your cocktail. No dance floor so if you're looking for that, continue on down to NB. Friendly, attentive bartenders and staff. Keep your Ps and Qs and you'll have a great time. This place is dying! How are the doors still open. Walked in on the phone on an important call...terrible woman of a"bartender" asked if I wanted drink. I told her "give me a minute I'm on the phone" she then (drunkenly) proceeded to yell and talk so very loud I couldn't hear what the other person was saying. I asked her to keep it down for one minute and she flipped out told me to leave. There were 3 patrons in there and refused my business. I own an establishment and of ever one of my employees treated people that way they would be gone. Congrats on holding yourselves to a very low standard!!! read more

I am from Cleveland and am completely embarrassed that this is considered a "Cleveland Browns" bar. I have only been here twice and both times I bought a beer and paid with cash and both times the same blonde bartender shorted me by quite a bit and gave the same bs excuse. After nearly 3 years of avoiding Patrick's, I gave them the benefit of the doubt and went back in. First off, the prices were cheaper. Pretty hard to argue with that. Staff was friendly and prompt. They have a wide selection of hard alcohol, as well. Still no draft beer, but as long as the prices are kept low and the service continues to be friendly, no complaints here! read more

Pretty small bar, and the drinks aren't particularly fantastic, but the atmosphere delivers with amazing quality. There are lots of doodads to look at. Very Irish, in fact. The bartenders are kind and receptive, and the two pool tables are fun, too. The only problem: too small. Even locals will have problems committing to a bar this small during its rush hours of weekend evenings. Once more, the drinks are a bit expensive; a major minus is the fact that there is absolutely no "happy hour" for reduced prices. Quick sum-up: A drink or two might be good for a little detour on a date, but don't plan on making a full-fledged drunken fool out of yourself with out 70 bucks or so. read more

Came here with coworkers for the first time the other day to celebrate. Totally overlooked this place in the past and man is it a diamond in the rough. Super friendly servers and an ambiance that made you feel welcome. Decently priced beers at around $4-$6 a bottle. Well drinks were around $5 bucks. Not bad. Can't even begin to tell you the memories I've had in this place. I stepped in there on St Patty's day this year just for shits n giggles and I had flash backs. This bar became quickly a home when I came here.. why? Because it was near and the people in there was just too cool. I felt like family in there. Everyone knew each other by their first names- met a lot of people - even people from high school use to go there. Bartenders were friendly accommodate to your needs. If you become a regular - you don't even have to say a word just walk in there and your set! Make sure to bring your ID. Love the vibe when everyone is on the same level! I've met the owners and both are nice and welcoming. 3 Pool tables 2 Dart boards 6 tables 1 Shuffle board 1 Ol skool juke box but when you play sweet caroline .. you got the whole bar singin and bangin on the tables! love it! Out side patio *can't bring your drink out there* new rule apparently too much drama out there oh well. So you'll have to leave your drink inside and hope nobody coincidently picked it up. This place is way bigger and more exciting inside than the outside lets on! Pool tables, shuffle and dart boards, multiple TV's; this is the place to BE on any given game day! It's got a great neighborhood dive bar feel and the bartenders are all very friendly. I've only been twice but both times sitting at the bar the bartender has known some of the other patrons. They even take the time to know your name after checking your ID so you feel at home. The biggest downside is that they have a $20 card minimum and the ATM machine has a $2 service fee that charges you twice each time you use it, so come prepared with cash already or plan on buying drinks for your friends and settling up later! They also don't have a kitchen (though you can buy a bag of chips) but I overheard if you're nice they'll let you have food delivered and you can eat it at the bar. read more

I went here on an event less Sunday night so the place was pretty empty. Was looking to have a beer and play some darts with my boyfriend. They have a good selection of games including pool, foosball, darts and shuffleboard. It's a clean bar where a lot of the locals hang out. Had a fun night and would go back. read more

Really cool place! Awesome staff, darts and pool tables! As a local I never knew about this place because it seems hidden. It smells like a Vegas casino (cigarettes, alcohol, cigars) but the atmosphere is great, I like going to bars when it's calm and not too full. The pool tables are in good shape and the darts are full metal, not your average cheap plastic ones. The bartender is awesome, I wish I got their names, they are social and give good recommendations. St. Pattys day was insane, I got there at a good time and played darts. It was packed and the bartenders were super busy. I have been coming to this bar for 20 years! It is by far my favorite! Donna and Vinnie are the best, all the Bartenders past and present are fantastic, there is nothing I dont think they can't make if it behind the bar. Tons of flat screens TVs for sports, (which I get to watch my Eagles on our side) since it's a Browns bar. Free pizza on Sunday football, drink specials! They have Pool tables, suffleboard, foosball, Jukebox, Darts and a golf game. It's a great layed back place to hang out and enjoy a night out. They have become family! read more

Patrick's Pub is the closest bar to my house, making it my local spot. I drinks a bit, so I frequent this place three to five times a week, so my star rating is a little biased. It's my home away from home, so I love it. WHY I WENT: When I first moved to Costa Mesa, it was looking like the Goat Hill Tavern was going to be my watering hole of choice, that is until I went there on a Friday night and was unable to maneuver from the smoking patio to the bar without running into 6.5, on the average, annoying bro-type people. I stumbled across Patrick's when buying a new phone from the Sprint store that is right next door, and upon realizing how much closer it was to my apartment than the Goat was, I decided to give it a shot. DRINKS: They have no beer on draft, and only have a selection of about 12 or 15 different types of brews in bottles (save the Guinness, that's in a can of course), but since I tend to be a liquor fan, this isn't really a problem for me. Standard domestics are four to five dollars. Imports from 5 to 6. Liquor selection is standard, and mixed drinks range from five to seven. While I personally have never had a problem with weak or watered down drinks, some of my friends have had complaints. Some of my friends are belligerent drunks though, and it's probably for the best their drinks didn't have as much liquor as mine. Happy Hour all damn day, from Open to 6PM, dollar off everything. Respect. FOOD: No food served, but they don't have a problem if you order a pizza and have it delivered, or make a quick swing by Jack in the Box. Don't try and bring the soft drink you got with your Jumbo Jack in though, that won't fly. Also, a taco truck will come by, usually on the weekends but sometimes on weekdays, around 11:00 or midnight, right on time to cure those drunken hunger pangs. Free pizza on Sundays during football, and hot dogs on Mondays during football. STAFF: They are friendly, but also no-nonsense. If you start causing trouble, you will be cut off. A friend of mine was there on Christmas Day having a few drinks (I wasn't there, I was at a different bar that night...I told you I drinks a bit.) and was unaware that at midnight, a large payment was going to be taken off his card...rent or car insurance or something, and since he tried to close his tab after the money was removed, his card was declined. Being too drunk to notice, the bartender just gave him his card, told him there was nothing to sign and his drinks were on the house that night. I doubt that this is a standard thing to do, after all it was Christmas, spirit of the season and what not, but just to give you an idea that they are really good people running this bar. PATRONS: This bar is nestled in right next to a Super 8 Motel that is about a mile south of the 405 Freeway, so you get the occasional traveler in the bar, but for the most part it's exclusively locals. And the crowd isn't all older or all younger. It's usually a mix that follows the demographics of the area. There are college kids, older men and women and everything in between. There are the regulars, myself included, that don't cause any trouble and are pretty easy to talk to if your in the mood for stories. If you're a single guy, there aren't too many girls that go there without their men. If you're a girl though, there are a number of patrons there that will gladly buy you a drink. I won't, but someone will. Pretty decent number of pool players, and a good amount of sports fans. It gets full on Fridays and Saturdays, but it doesn't get packed. There are a few choke points that might be hard to navigate at midnight on a Friday, but you're not having your face shoved into sweaty armpits as you walk from the patio to the bar. INTERIOR: They have three pool tables. Cues are pretty new and the tables were just re-felted. They host pool league games on Monday's and Thursday's, so getting a table on those nights is hard, but it's always fun to take your shot against a semi-professional player. Full sized shuffleboard table, not like the three quarter sized table they have at the Goat Hill. They have darts and foosball too. I had a birthday party here, and there was enough space for the 10 or 15 people that came along to all sit fairly close together. They have a jukebox, but there is far more classic rock and alternative than pop and hip-hop. Sadly, no one is picking music, nothing is playing. This is a problem in the early evening, but at night, someone is putting money in it, so music is generally always playing. Smoking out front or on the back patio. No drinks allowed on the back patio, it's a liquor license problem, not because the owner hates smokers. Standard Irish Pub decor, bumper stickers and signs on the walls, and an occasional four leaf clover. OVERALL: Dive (In a good way), not over crowded, friendly staff and customers, decent amount of non-drinking entertainment, generally local scene, no draft beers. I love this bar. If ever I wanna just go catch a quick drink or hang out and have a few, Patricks is the place I go. Has 2 dart boards, foosball, shuffle board, pool tables and a great staff. Overall, I enjoyed the atmosphere. The bartender was super chill, we sat at the bar so we got our drinks quick, the bartender was feeling festive and also wished all the customers a merry Christmas and thanked everyone for coming on their way out. I'm not a football person but I did notice they're a Browns bar, which is cool to have a theme. We picked some music so that was fun and we also watched TV while we drank. Since it's around the holidays they had the bar decorated with a Christmas tree and some Santa Claus Mickey Mouse decorations, which was cute. Everyone was having a fun time. They don't sell food but I noticed they have tiny bite size snacks like chips, peanuts etc. They had games but I didn't try any. If you like dive bars, this is the go to spot in Costa Mesa. I have this and Triangle Square in walking distance from my apartment complex. Sometimes I'm in the mood to get a bit sexy, demure and country and hit up Saddle back. But often I wanna throw on my flip flops, jean shorts and Abercrombie and Fitch T-Shirt a hang with the locals! And this is the spot to do just that, you have a huge mix of people here that enjoy the scene for the games and casual nature. The bartenders are the best especially Michelle! And the juke box is off the rails especially when you have the app where you pick music from your barstool. I would recommend this bar to either a group that wants a laid back reasonably priced scene to congregate and ketchup. I love Patricks. You dont have to dress to impress, but if you come in looking cute, they wont hold it against you. Its a chill place that people can go to grab a no nonsense drink, and play a game of darts or shuffle board if that tickles your fancy. They have pool tables, and a good jukebox. shortly after my 21st birthday, some friends and i would frequent this place to hang out and play some shuffleboard, billiards, and darts. have a few beers and enjoy the atmosphere. i just went back this evening for the first time in a while and upon sitting down the lady bartender (i feel like a jerk for forgetting her name...not edie, melissa??) looks at me and saying "hey brandon! man...it's been a while!" needless to say, it was very welcoming and friendly, awesome feeling. i really like this bar. they have all kinds of sports memorabilia on the walls, in addition to random cheesy bumper-stickers and beer promo stuff. darts are free, shuffleboard is 75cents per game, billiards are a dollar i believe. huge comfortable bar area that wraps around. the covered smoking area is cool, i wish that they'd let you bring drinks outside with you...but oh well. i consider patrick's to be juuuuust outside of bikeride distance from my house (especially for the ride home...hah) but it's absolutely close enough to consider it to be my neighborhood bar. read more
