However, a neighbor who raved about it along with the $50 mailer I received made me feel like this was the time. We arrived about five minutes from our reservation and were seated at our reservation time. The place was definitely hoppin' on a Saturday night at 7 PM. Our service staff was Makayla (sp?) and Kyle. When we got to our table, it was sweet to find a birthday card waiting for me signed by all of the staff. Makayla introduced herself first and offered us various types of water. She was also able to explain some things about the menu before Kyle (our main server) arrived. She was very sweet and knowledgeable, attentive, and we just really loved her. Kyle was an absolute STAR. She definitely knew the menu, had great recommendations, and checked on us the perfect amount of times. We wanted to try a bit of everything so we ordered quite a bit for two people with the expectation that we would take some home. For appetizers, we ordered the beef tartare, the Caesar salad, and the Parker house rolls. Drinks: Lady Luck (very refreshing, reminded me of a mimosa in some ways) and an Old Fashioned which my husband thought was excellent. For our entrée, we ordered the Associate board which came with filet mignon, tri-tip, and the Denver steak. It also came with bone marrow, beef tallow butter, pickled onions, Bearnaise sauce, steak sauce, and a Santa Maria salsa. It was explained to us that this board had Wagyu beef while the Executive had more ounces of meat and dry aged steaks. Both boards come with a fillet, bone marrow, and all of the sauce accompaniments. We also ordered the whipped potatoes and the broccolini as sides. For dessert, we ordered the Butter Cake and the Bananas Foster cheesecake. Everything was paced perfectly. We both loved the rules and the salad. Personally, I did not care for the tartare. The salt and vinegar chips were just too salty for my liking and the beef was a bit tough. My husband enjoyed it quite a bit, though. Our board arrived with hot dinner plates. We were warned ahead of time that things tend to be on the saltier side so we asked for them to go light on the salt. They brought us a side of Maldon salt to add if we needed to which we did. I appreciated that input because I am somewhat put off by too much salt. We ordered the steaks medium rare. We were also warned that the tri-tip can be chewy and it was, but it tasted nice. The Denver was definitely more on the rare side which my husband was ok with by I wasn't excited about. The very end piece was maybe a tad more done, but I tasted just the one piece and moved on. To me, the Filet was the best. Sauces: We both preferred the steak sauce but we also felt like when we were really missing was a sauce like a chimichurri. The bearnaise sauce was my second favorite but be warned that it's very rich. I'm sorry to say it but the Santa Maria salsa tasted exactly like Pace Picante Sauce. A chimichurri would have been a million times better. The marrow was like butter and meant to spread on the meat as such. We didn't care for the tallow butter. The broccolini was the real star in my book! I loved the char and the yogurt sauce was a nice pairing. The whipped potatoes were also delicious. Both desserts were excellent! I can't even pick which one was better!! I would go back for the desserts alone. They also sent me a free scoop of the ice cream of the day which was a peanut butter fudge flavor. They had a birthday candle in it which I thought was a really nice touch. I would give 5 stars for the service for sure! We will definitely be back, but we both agreed that we would likely order individual steaks instead of a board next time. We were happy to try what we did, though, and thought the meal was fantastic even if we liked some things better than others. Loved the atmosphere. It was lively and a mix of classic and modern. I was extremely disappointed with my experience and still try to look on the bright side- my blood orange mule was good and the French fries shared on the patio saved the night.
