This was an extremely pleasant surprise! We are staying at a nice b&b cottage, about 1 block from this pub (Headland's). We did not expect to find a pub with great drinks, great food, and wonderful service! Our server was Alexis. Friendly and efficient. Just what you want (or need) after a long day of driving. I will try to post a photo or two. Check out the pour on my Jameson's! I felt transported in time back to older days. So nice! I ordered the pulled pork sandwich, my wife had the French dip. Both were choices with known risks, based on experience, but the French Dip was not the least bit salty, and the sauce on the pulled pork was just right, Goldylocks right! Outdoor seating was an excellent vibe. It was rainy and cold out but the tent and heaters kept us comfortable. The decor and plants made it so cozy and cute out there. Inside was cool too but we only saw it breifly. We recently moved here and had to check it out. On a girl's weekend, while shopping in Mendocino, we saw this hilarious sign. It peaked our curiosity. So we decided to give it a try. Once we entered the pub, we knew we were going to have a great time. The ambiance was warm, the servers were friendly and courteous, and most patrons were locals--which is always a good sign. After my server realized I enjoy Blue Moon on tap, and they didn't have it, she offered to make me one. WOWZA!!! It was BETTER than BM!! As if that wasn't enough to exhilarate our taste buds, our food order of The Worst Clam Chowder, calamari, and crab cakes served on a ceasar salad, sent us over the edge to a food heaven oblivion: fresh, perfectly seasoned, cooked and prepared to perfection!! Quaint local pub with great service, food, and prices. Group of four took us :10 minutes to be seated while we chatted with the friendly host. Everyone ordered something different, and every dish was delicious. Salads were fresh, clam chowder was delicious, and two specials were spot on.The waiter was attentive and friendly.the only drawback was they were so busy we had to ask for the check, but to me the experience was a total win. Possibly best Clam Chowder? Why is the chowder always good at a pub? I'm starting to notice a trend...In any case, I went to this pub and immediately was sold the first time on the Chowder. It was so good I, had to come back the following day just to have it again. It's that dang good. I think I liked it so much because it was creamy but yet it had this peppery finish on your palate. The potato chunks were big and the clams were a decent size as well. This place will now always be a must for me to go to anytime I come to Mendocino. Oh and some extra credit. They have a TV on the North side of the pub outside. They lay out the rules pretty much all around the pub saying when you do or don't need to have your mask on. I do believe you have to order food to get alcohol but an easy cup of Clam Chowder always seals the deal. The best part is that it's under $10 bucks too. Mannnnn....Oh and the Coconut Shrimp were good too. They had a really tasty dipping sauce that came with them. Lastly they have an amazing outside bathroom. Visited Patterson's two nights in a row on our NYE trip to Mendocino. We stumbled across the pub on NYE, although busy, we were able to snag two chairs at the bar. The bartender was friendly, engaging and made great drinks. We ended up ordering the fish & chips and some onion rings, both were fantastic! The vibe is so cozy, welcoming & warm, everything I look for in a pub. The next night we stopped by and grabbed a high table next to the fire outside and had a drink before dinner. Our server that night was very nice & attentive. A special shoutout to Holly, she was hostess on NYE & serving the next day. Great place to eat and have a drink in Mendocino. Both the host and the server had amazing customer service. They check your ID's at the door since they're a 21+ establishment. My fiancé had my ID in his wallet so I wouldn't have to carry my wallet and the host has joked that he does the same for his girlfriend. And we had a good laugh before he went to go check on seating for us. Really friendly guy! We came by last Tuesday for dinner and drinks, everything was great. My fiancé got the French dip sandwich and a Guinness while I got the fish tacos and a pomegranate margarita. We both shared a small bowl of clam chowder with garlic bread and fried pickles. Everything was great. We sat in the outdoor dining area that is covered by a tent and has heaters available, it was really nice. They even had cushions on the seats! Our server was great, I heard her name but I can't for the life of me remember. She had curly hair and she was also our bartender for our drinks! She was really good about checking on us, and explaining the menu and specials. Really great experience all around, we definitely plan on coming back the next time we're in the area. read more

Great little pub/restaurant in the heart of Mendocino. It was a little noisy for our liking inside so we chose to sit outside in the cute little patio area. Our meal was great as well as the service. Parking was a challenge as in any downtown area. Totally worth the challenge! read more

I am dying for their margaritas , super smooth and does not get you until the mid is gone. For sure one of the best pubs ever , the ladies in front were Middle Ages but super nice and attentive. We had a great time, excellent service, and amazing food last night! Liz took excellent care of us and helped make our experience that much extra. The power did dip out, due to a downed tree across Hwy 1 (hope everyone involved is okay! ), but they have generators at the ready and the power clicked back on within a minute. Lots of locals- all super friendly and welcoming. We enjoyed a cup of chowder- very good! Enjoyed the veggies still had a little crunch, instead of just soggy. Hubs had the elk burger (special) OMG! It was amazing! He had steak fries as his side. I got the Black and Blue steak salad. Steak was cooked perfectly. With dinner we enjoyed a fry, hard cider on tap, a Modelo Especial with lime, and a Guinness. Dessert was the double chocolate gelato, and I had a shot of Baileys on the side that I poured over it- YUM! Hubs drank his dessert with one of THE best Old Fashions he's ever had. Liz truly has a gift with this drink! Thank you for the hospitality, a place to dry from the rain, and amazing food! Horrible service was given....listen if you don't have the staff to "service your patrons" or to be courteous then don't seat them at a table. We were ignored for at least 30 minutes in the garden and watched the server's pick and choose who they wanted to serve. WTF! The people are super friendly , the French fries were super yummy but the salads mediocre at best and super expensive. The taco salad was a lot of iceberg lettuce with a can of black olives - no avocado, and the chicken - which was an extra $10 was not a fresh grilled piece of chicken but small Bits of hard chicken. Tried the wings, burger special with fries and Caesar salad. All were well prepared, well seasoned and generous portions. We discovered Patterson's while on a short vacation in River Cove. It's a short drive away and located in the cute downtown Mendocino. Very dog friendly and they brought water for our dogs. Lady that sat us was friendly and got us in within a few mins. She took us to the best seat on the patio, near the gnome garden! Lol. Loved it. The patio is covered and plenty of heat lamps and other heat sources to keep you warm on a damp, cool evening. Tables nicely placed to provide a bit of elbow room too. Our server Alex was a great guy. Answered beer questions, gave us food suggestions, and provided us an alternative to a specialty hot bev when the kitchen was out of what we wanted. He even shared his choice of gnome in the garden. :) The bear eating the gnomes was one of my faves... My wife and I shared the fish n chips which came out piping hot. Pretty solid choice, quite satisfying with my pint of Smitty's (as Alex called it) my wife went for a local red ale from Boonville and that was good too. We finished with a very tasty and comforting Apple Pie with us hot cider and brandy topped with whipped cream. We've decided we are coming back each night for this dessert drink! Every town deserves a really good pub, and Patterson's is the "go to" in Mendocino. You can sit at the bar, at a table, or outside with your dog. It gets pretty busy between noon and 1:30 for the lunch crowd, but they're organized and get you in pretty quickly. My server, Wes, was both friendly and professional. Fish and chips , of course. A legit Irish bar with late night food service! Warning: CASH ONLY! ( luckily they have an atm) Second warning: BIG portions ( which is not a bad thing just prepare your stomach or don't order half the menu like we did ) It's more a bar then a restaurant because there is more bar space then restaurant space. However their food menu is very extensive, and the quality is great. I highly recommend. Landed here on a Sunday night at 10p when everything else is closed during winter time in Fort Braggs. The drive was worth it. Quick service. Yummy food. It's THE late night spot to eat at. Vibe: mostly 40+ having fun like college kids. Dress: casual Food: awesome Parking: plenty when we went. Food we ate: clam chowder (a cup can be filling), sea food salad (amazing big pieces of fresh fish / crabs, etc - the included lettuce was almost unnecessary), the fettuccine alfredo with prawns, and the beef sandwich. Why 4 stars: I have never had onion strips, looking like pasta in my fettuccine alfredo. It was puzzling and surprising, and decided I am not into it. Also they were out of the clams in white sauce as an appetizer which I was super looking forward to it. Bonus: they make good bloody marries, even at 10pm. This small but cozy Irish pub has indoor tables with a well-stocked bar and a leg lamp from the movie A Christmas Story. Plenty of TVs too. Judging from the flag out front and decor inside, this is definitely a MLB Giants bar. There is also a very nice patio for outdoor dining. We had to wait a bit for a table because this pub is very popular and busy. The waitstaff did their best to keep up. So no complaint there. Warning to families with kids: this is an adults only venue, i.e. must be 21 or older. But dogs are more than welcome, albeit only outdoors on the patio. The food was delicious, fresh and well presented. I had steamed clams and mussels in a white broth seasoned with butter, garlic and fresh parsley. The toasted garlic bread on the side was very good too. I would have liked more garlic, but maybe that's just me, because I love garlic. My husband had the lobster melt sandwich on toasted sourdough bread. He opted for a Caesar salad instead of fries. Everything was fresh and delicious. We shared the warm homemade berry cobbler Ala mode with coffee for desert. All I can say is YUM! read more
