She has been consistently professional, she stays current on hair trends and throughly consultants with me on my needs and wants...great listener and I get a lot of compliments on my "fresh cut". I booked an appointment here to try them out as a new customer and they called to say they needed to cancel and rebook my appointment three separate times, each time moving my appointment date back. On the third occasion they called 15 minutes before the appointment was supposed to start at which point I had already driven an hour to get to the appointment. They were unable to reschedule me for that day and said the best they could do for me was to reschedule me a week out. At that point I gave up on them and rebooked elsewhere. read more

I made an appt and had it scheduled two days later. I showed up and they didn't know I had an appt. I was very frustrated because I had to drive a long ways to get it . I had to cancel A previous appt and was rushing to get to Paul brown salon on time . I feel an appt to be made for another time would have been appropriate and possibly offer of a free eyebrow wax. Since pandemic haven't visited salon for awhile. My daughter has been going to Paul Brown Salon for her haircut and brow and highly recommend Paul Brown Salon. Booked an appointment with Del for haircut. Del is great hair stylist and very professional. My hair was so shiny and he nice. I definitely will be going back to visit Del again for hair styles and treatment. Salon is very clean and everyone wears face mask so you feel comfortable during COVID pandemic. read more

I've been going here for about 4 years now for both hair cuts and brows. The services are great, my brows look awesome every time and Gerry spends the time and perfection needed for even my most crazy eyebrows. Pam is a great hairstylist as well. I do have to say, who you go to in the salon makes or breaks the experience here. The salon is pricey for its services, but I've had bad experiences with hair stylists in the past and finding one that works great for me is worth the price in my opinion. It's a clean, well serviced salon. Some experiences with dropped appointments due to front desk issues, but they've hired better people recently in my opinion. read more

I really like Patty doing my eyebrows. I have gone in when she wasn't available in desperate need to get my eyebrows waxed and all I have to say is I prefer to stick with Patty. I've been coming here for the past 2 years and I don't have anything but good to say about her =) She's super sweet! In the beginning of coming here, the reception desk could've used some help, but I feel that it's def gotten better. It used to be pretty unorganized, from a client viewpoint. Popped in to see if I could get an appointment for my unruly eyebrows and today was my lucky day, I met Nathan - who worked his magic. Here's the deal - this wasn't the typical wax, rip and go. Nathan really took care to groom my eyebrows. I was so relaxed, I didn't ask too many questions but the service included several steps which felt like toner or cleanser, cream, trim, waxing, plucking....but THEN, a cool compress to calm your skin post waxing. Ahhhh!! At that point, I started to worry, that I would look crazy because by this point my make up in the area was gone. But alas, Nathan reapplied/touched up before I was done. I looked in the mirror and there wasn't any red splotches I normally have after a wax. My makeup was touched up and I was ready to roll with the rest of my day!! read more

I drove all the way from Ewa Beach to Ward Centre for this place. A salon that's worthy of rearranging your schedule around an appointment is worth 5 stars, at least. I highly recommend Kim for eyebrows, she's nice, she's good at what she does, and she's worth the commute. read more

I went to see Del Taylor @ Paul Brown Salon at Ward Village. Del had fixed the disaster i had done on my hair from SuperCuts in Kapolei. What a huge difference. Davis is a miracle worker. I came in for a color with someone else previously, and my hair was dyed way too dark. The salon made it right and Davis was the one who fixed my hair. Even though I initially got a color I did not want, I am still giving 5 stars for how amazingly well Davis fixed my hair. He listened to me, worked incredibly fast, and gave me exactly what I originally wanted. I have really long, thick hair that is hard to work with and even after coloring and correcting, it still feels really healthy. He exceeded my expectations! read more

I chose this salon after extensive research and based on their great reviews I decided to get a Keratin treatment. I called the salon to inquiry if they did any "Permanent Straightening" and the receptionist stated "Yes, we have the Keratin treatment". I clarified with her that this is a permanent straightening treatment and she stated it was. I clarified becuase I am aware that different salons call different services a Keratin treatment. I asked for the starting price and she stated 250 but it depends on your hair and length. I paid over $500 for the treatment and a haircut which I was somewhat surprised about. I waited 3 days as instructed and washed my hair after the treatment. My hair is the same texture and has the same amount of frizz as it did before I got the keratin treatment. I am disappointed because I went into my appointment thinking I would be leaving with Permanently straight hair, it wasn't until my hairdresser told me this treatment only relaxes your frizz but leaves your hair in the same state was I aware of what I was actually getting. At that point she had already applied product to my hair so I was unable to change my mind. I was disappointed to have to pay $500+ for a service I was misinformed about. If I knew this service was a frizz relaxer prior to my appointment, I would have taken my money elsewhere. read more

I've got a love - hate relationship with this place. My first visit was with a lovely young woman who taught me a few Hawaiian words while cutting my hair exactly as I asked. $7 tip. LOVE! The second visit I had the worst haircut of my five decades of haircuts when I trusted by hair to one of the least expensive stylists - not the person who cut my hair the first time. $5 tip bc I did not know I'd been weed hacked at the time I left. Love then Hate. GOOD NEWS! They allowed me to get the chopped up mess fixed by one of their veteran stylists free of charge. $10 tip. Hate then Love. 8 weeks later I returned for a maintenance cut. I was 10 minutes late for the appointment, which was apparently a big mistake because the previously friendly and talented stylist told me he had to leave in 20 minutes to attend "an engagement" so we'd "have to make this quick." So....doing the math - they were going to wash, cut and style my hair in 30 minutes. The assigned stylist had an engagement to run off to so there was no opportunity for it running longer - no matter what came up. Then, my lateness limited the job to 20 minutes. Is this a normal scheduling arrangement? I don't know. The result - a very poor cut, and I left with wet hair for $65. Tip $5. Love then Hate (I admit my tardiness must be added into this conclusion). I stayed away after these four experiences opting for a less expensive (OK - cheaper) alternative. I prefer to be disappointed by things costing under $50 rather than things costing more. But...the Paul Brown siren called and I responded. On my last haircut before leaving HI for CA I discovered the most fabulous stylist ever! His name is Michael and he's a Jersey guy with scissors of gold and a personality to match. He turned my hair into exactly what I wanted - wash, blow dry quickly, and look like a sporty version of Jane Fonda or a grey haired female wind blown Keanu Reeves - it' all about perspective. Hate then LOVE!! Tip $10. Note about the desk staff - they are always friendly and manage hair cut anxiety of the patrons (not just me) very well. My advice: ask for Jersey Mike. Get there 10 minutes early. Make this part of a day of treating yourself well. read more

I haven't gotten a haircut in 3 year and was super nervous. Delwin Taylor was an amazing hairdresser who asked me every right question to really understand what I wanted. He highlighted my hair, and colored the ends in 2 different colors. He based the colors on asking me questions like "What colors do you wear a lot?" and figuring out what colors i'm naturally attracted to. Not only is Delwin a very talented hairdresser, but he is very intelligent. He knows so much and a great person to hold a conversation with. Not only was I blown away by how amazing my hair came out, but I surprised at the price. I was nervous about the bill when I went to pay. I already came up with a story I was going to tell my husband. Then when she told me the price, it was way lower than I thought. My appointment was made more than a week in advance for a haircut , style and full highlights. They call me an hour before appointment to say the stylist is running specifically 45 minutes behind and if I can push my appointment back. I agreed thinking nothing of it. Got there on time and was put in a chair. Stylist was in the middle of another customer didn't look half done. He came over for 2 minutes, briefly reviewing what he thought I had scheduled for which was wrong ( he tried to say I had partial highlights only, while on my confirmation clearly said full. I said this and he insisted it was partial. Guess he wanted to save himself some time. Said the whole thing would take 4 hours. He came back for another 2 minutes to tell me he was going to get someone else to do my hair. At this point I believed nothing he said, waited 15 more minutes (this was already over an hour past my original appointment). I got up and said I'm not waiting anymore as I can see I'm not going to get any service anytime soon. They tried to reschedule me but I said I'd let them know. Yeah right. A few days later a survey email came asking how was my experience. LOL No apologies, no compensation for my time and trouble. Worse customer service ever, reminds me of United Airlines, but that's another review... Won't book here again any time soon read more

When I first arrived I felt comfortable, everyone seemed nice. A stylist introduced himself and made me coffee; and Paul brown even introduced himself when we saw me waiting for my stylist to be ready for me. I was excited to be getting my hair done and was really looking forward to the results. That changed very quickly not even 2 minutes after I sat down with my stylist. She immediately saw my hair and repeatedly said that she didn't have time to do it, and what I wanted to was basically impossible because of the color I currently had in my hair. I didn't want to argue, because these are professionals and they know more than I do about hair; but she made me feel like my hair was a burden and gave off a vibe that she just blantantly didn't want to do it. Right as I was about to change to leave, the stylist that made me coffee said he had time to do it. I was very confused as to why they kept telling me that basic 2 toned highlights were not possible when I've gotten it done very nicely at other places. I was nervous as to how it would come out but still let him do it. I appreciate the time and effort that this stylist put into doing my hair but it didn't come out how I wanted it to, nor how I expected it to. My hair looks a lot darker, which is the opposite of what I was going for. The stylist that colored my hair said that the blue/grey tone will wash out which is what I'm hoping will do; and said that if I go in the sun my hair will get lighter. It was recommended that I come back in a month to tone but I don't think I will be back. I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone unless they have short, thin, virgin hair. read more

I was ready to give a rating of 5 out of 10 as of 6/4 because I thought at least the owner Paul Brown and his assistant were polite during my hair coloring appointment but I developed a burning forehead afterwards for two days and rashes on my eye brows and neck on the third day. I had to go to urgent care yesterday afternoon to receive shots and got prescriptions to treat the rashes developed from the dripped dye on these areas and high-heat hair drying process. I had to dodge from the high-heat blower that almost touched my scalp during the appointment. Today I would like to give the service a rating of 0 out of 10 because I just received a call from the owner saying that he did not know what I was complaining about and asked me not to come to his shop again. I don't understand how a shop with these many years of existence could allow this to happen. They emailed me a few times asking for feedback. So I called them to tell them what happened after the appointment. Apparently they don't even have the gut to admit the the mistake their staff made. What a lousy way to do business! Sorry I would never go to your shop again! A serious disappointment! Stop advertising your business as is because you don't live up to the standards. read more

David Wong is hands down, the best stylist/colorist you will ever trust with your hair! I came to David with a bad dye-job and a gnarly cut. David saved me. He was patient with me as I described what my hair vision was, and then put his talent to work! He colored my hair beautifully and used products to protect my hair from further damage during the color process. I've been going to Paul Brown Salon for many years, and although I've never had a truly bad experience, I am so OVER the pricing. Somehow I was paying nearly $250 for a basic cut and partial highlight, which is an increase of 30-40 percent over the years. The last straw, though, was the $2.00 salon service fee added to the bill. When I inquired about it, the receptionist said it was Paul's small way of accounting for the rough economy and that the fee was better than raising prices across the board? Really?! Don't you already do that? They're constantly going UP! And how do you get off charging an extra salon fee when I already pay out my ears for the actual SALON services? Pure and simple greed, I tell you. Especially since the place looks and feels exactly as it always has -- nothing new, nothing different. Pretty dated, actually. Needless to say, I'm out. Not going back, even if it means saying goodbye to my regular stylist. Let this be a lesson that even the mighty can push the greed too far... and fall. read more

Eons ago when I was in high school I discovered Paul Brown and for years believed that it was the most wonderful place on Earth! I was beauty deprived growing up because my Mom thinks that Fantastic Sam's is where you go to splurge on yourself. I got my hair cut at Paul Brown by different stylists over the years, I got my brows waxed, I got my make-up done, I bought product after product and eventually when I grew up I found that it was no longer my place. So what brought me back to my old beauty stomping grounds? Food poisoning. I got food poisoning the night before Yelp Helps and was up all night throwing up. I'm now 8 months pregnant so when I woke up that morning I was an emotional wreck. Tired, dehydrated, bloated, and a laundry list of other emotions. What's a girl to do when she has a busy day ahead, has to host a party for 400+ people and is completely exhausted? A man would say "You go back to bed." Well my fellow ladies will understand my answer to the dilemma: "You go and get your hair blown out." After having a small emotional break down which included a bit of crying to my BF, off I went to Paul Brown. My regular hairstylist was completely booked so I called Paul Brown knowing they had a fairly big staff and they were located right down the street from my event venue. So in the end it all came down to location and convenience. The receptionist booked me with a stylist named Davis and told me that his blowouts started at $35. I think at that point I would have paid $100 for someone to make me feel better. I got my free pregnancy parking at the Ward Center valet and checked in at the front desk. Davis as it turns out was a very nice Chinese man and he had his assistant shampoo my hair. It took him about 20 minutes to do the blow-out and although I ended up with "pageant hair" it was better than nothing at all! My hair hasn't been cut in almost three months so I'm amazed he was able to get the volume back into it! And most importantly, I felt a million times better!!! I went to check out at the front desk expecting to pay $35 but they charged me $40. That was a little irritating but I really wasn't in the mood to argue about $5. I had stuff to do and needed to get out of there! Paul Brown is definitely not my place any longer but if I ever need a small service done I'll probably go back because it's easy to go with the familiar. If you do go for a haircut I highly recommend seeing Misa because she's amazing! read more

Obviously extremely poor quality of hair color products, technique or both! This salon is way overpriced for it's poor product and non existent service, in an overwhelmingly dated environment. After having my hair colored, I washed on the third day with a color protectant shampoo, only to see the dye had literelly dropped out of my hair, exposing nothing more that a huge color correction needed. Called the salon, spoke to a pleasant receptionist that would have a manger call or email me back as she had taken detailed notes to pass along. After 4 days of no responce I call in to find there is no information or 'notes' on my previous discussion. Inquired again to speak with a manger and told "Well, there are three managers". Apparently two for the front and one overall and no one is there. My responce is, you just told me you have three managers and no one can take the call? "well, kit is picking up her parents from the airport and Angela goes between locations". Okay, really? Then who's taking care of your customers Paul Brown? You have a manager running personal errands to the freakin airport on a day where H1 is closed for Apec world leaders arrivals and your overall mananger is apparently driving around in circles too! Totally ridiculous! I will NEVER return to pay $200 for the absolute worst hair care, with the most irresponsible, lazidasical managers that could care less about the people who keep your doors open. Yes, that would be your customers Paul! Of whom you will not have, being you can not provide the bare bones basics of customer service and the employees you've chosen lack professionalism of any kind. Cest la Vie! read more

Made a very very last minute appointment and the salon was still able to accommodate me which was wonderful. Then when there was a scheduling mix up they fixed that too so that I could still have the services I booked in the timeframe I needed. Ended up getting a cut with Delwin and it was great! He was friendly and professional and took his time to do a great and careful job even though he learned he would be doing my cut with very short notice. I started going to Paul Brown when I first moved on island because being one with difficult-to-manage hair, I have never trusted just any ol' salon to do the job right. My best friend, who goes to Ari almost twice a month, raved about her great experiences here, so I decided I would start going. Let me start by saying I never necessarily had a bad experience here, it was just always mediocre. I never walked out of the salon feeling like I was having the greatest hair day ever, which I should have considering my wallet got considerably smaller. My stylist, Ace, was always super friendly, prompt, and really knew what he was doing, I just don't think he and my hair were a good match. My color would normally fade after two to three weeks, and I would always need a new trim after only about 6 weeks. Way too often. That being said, he always gave me a head massage to die for and always put an extra hair serum on my hair while he was conditioning it that made it frizz free for a couple of shampoos free of charge. (Atleast, it never showed up on my bill.) That being said, my reason for the 3 stars is that this place is STUPID expensive. You will seriously pay almost twice as much as other salons that do just as well, and you are not getting what you are paying for. Their products and hair color are subpar, and my hair never had that "salon-smell" when I left. In fact, my hair always smelled kind of bad. it was never styled quite right, either. There would be a frizzy patch near the front, or my bangs would look like I was going to an 80's rock show. Just...not for me. I have friends that continue to have wonderful experiences with this salon, but as for me, it's just not the "bang" for my buck that I'm looking for. read more

My review is strictly for Ms. Mary Phan....I LAAAAHHHHVVVV HER!!!!! Mary was the person I went to see when I got my vajayjay waxed for the very first time ever. She came highly recommended by the staff at Paul Brown and so I made an appointment to see her. 4 estheticians and years later, I returned to Ms. Mary because she REALLY is the best. I'm gonna tell you right now....no one makes you feel more comfortable lying half naked on the table, and she makes it the quickest and most painless appointment possible ( not that getting your vajayjay waxed is ever pleasant but she's amazing). In a word, overrated. I've been coming here for various services for years. It's so crowded and noisy, I feel like I'm on some sort of assembly line for high maintenance girls. I also don't think their Paul Brown brand products are much to write home about either. Best pedicure of my life: Violet. Lasts forever! I don't know how she does that. Let me preface this like other reviews by saying that this review is based on a waxing experience. Yes, I am a man who got an eyebrow wax. Does that make me less of a man? No, not at all. It means I take care of myself and know how to impress. That gentlemen is how you keep your date calendar full...granted, mine is filled with dates with friends, but that is another story. Moving on, I had a special event come up and noticed my bushman eyebrows were starting to be overcome by not only length, but also noticed it was slowly creeping all over my face. Something needed to be done. I remember having a great experience at Paul Brown so quickly called on down and made a reservation. Note, make reservations since they are pretty popular and they definitely can fill up. I get there a tad early and was immediately greeted by the receptionist and found that my waxing specialist (I don't feel that waxer is an appropriate title here) Gary was ready for me and he quickly went to work. After a quick consultation, he found out what products I was using and how I wanted it done. As he made some chit chat, it was quickly over in a flash, and not all that painful. I barely even notice him apply some wax and make a few snips and plus. Boom, done! How amazing was that? I loved the fact that I could get in and out so quickly. Gary and the rest of the staff were incredibly professional and were very pleasant. I will definitely have to come again! Oh, you are probably wondering why don't I get my hair cut here? I think this place is seriously overrated. Really. I went once for a massage, and whoever I had there HURT me. Not a nice massage, it was so PAINFUL. I spoke up, and he tried not to massage so hard, but sometimes I think he just wasn't trained properly. I hurt for a WEEK after the massage, especially where he was trying to do some pressure point stuff... yup, I just ended up with bruises instead. I've also been in for haircuts, and despite how many times I have tried to explain to the stylist what I want, they always end up doing whatever they want instead. These aren't the beginner, cheaper stylists either. Hey, if there's one thing you need to learn as a hair stylist, you need to listen to the customer and see what he/she wants, and make some recommendations on what looks good and what will work/not work based on WHAT THE CUSTOMER WANTS, not what YOU WANT. Sheesh! The receptionists aren't very friendly there either. I have had better service at SUPERCUTS! Is that sad or what?! read more

I used to go to Paul Brown when my sister in law worked the reception desk, but stopped going. I was considering a straight perm, made a couple calls, found out that I could get s consultation for getting a straight perm. I figured why not, it's only a 15 minute drive. Met my hairstylist a woman with long pink/purple hair nice Korean woman who's name is Secha. Secha looked at my hair, I was worried because I have partial highlights and wasn't sure if it could be done. She suggested I cut my damaged hair first, condition, use better shower products and then come back. So they asked if I wanted to do my trim on same day as my consultation, and I said sure my day wasn't too busy. Got my trim along with a deep conditioning to fix my hair, to kinda "prep" it for the perm. Put down a $50 deposit for the perm, they said it would be deducted from my final cost. Sunday comes along - perm day! Secha texts me asks me if I wanted to come in early and I declined because I wanted to eat lunch. Came in about 15 minutes early, was given another deep conditioning and put under one of those space helmets. After about 30 minutes it was time for the chemicals. Sitting in the chair and playing tsum tsum on my phone but also was nodding off a little! Then hair washed and cleaned, my shirt happened to get wet, so they dried it for me! Sat down in the chair again this time a once around with the hot iron to straighten my hair.. After that, it was some spray that was combed thru my hair, getting it all wet. Not water but another chemical. Had to change gowns again, the one I wore got all wet. Secha patiently blow dries my hair, finishes up and tells me that I can't wash it for 2 days. Ugh what! But luckily she explained to me that I get to come back on Tuesday (day 2) and she will deep condition, shampoo and all that. I arrived at 12:15, we were done a little before 5pm. Hair is still holding up on Monday, but not sure how I will handle the heat, except try to escape to an air conditioned place! It's different than the hot iron technique because after my hair is hot ironed like normal, my hair will act up once it encounters my daily lifestyle. LOL.
