Ok so this is my third time here and every time I've gone the food is great but the service sucks. I just can't go back because no matter how good their home fries are and no matter how good their homemade English muffins are I just can't get past the horrible service. They have two waitresses and they are clearly overwhelmed! This last visit we sat down and waited about 15 minutes before anyone even acknowledged us and offered coffee. It took forever to get someone to give us a refill. When she did come over to run down the specials she talked so fast and then walked away and never said a word. Comes back says ready to order? Yup, all 4 of us will have sausage egg and cheese on a English muffin. Ok. She comes back with our food and we are all eating and saying it tastes weird. We finally figured out it was because the cheese on all of our sandwiches was crumbled blue cheese! Now don't get me wrong, I like blue cheese but NOT on bfast sandwich!!! Menu did not specify what kind of cheese was on it nor did she ask us what kind we wanted! We assumed it would be American since she didn't ask. Who puts blue cheese on a bfast sandwich anyway,gross. I really like the food here, especially the bakery items. We ordered our daughter's baptism cake from Paul Gregory's and everyone is still talking about it. The cupcakes are awesome too. However, the service and wait time during meals needs major improvement. I don't know why, but we keep coming back here for breakfast and lunch. I'm not sure it's worth it, because Every. Single. Time it takes over thirty minutes for something like a chicken sandwich when there is only one other table. And Every. Single. Time. something is wrong with our order. Once the food comes out and it's correct, it's delicious, but we've waited up to an hour to eat at this little cafe. And the when we have questions or need more water, the lone server is no where to be found. So if you're prepared to kill at least an hour and a half, then this place is for you. read more

This place is fantastic. This past summer, I attended a graduation party with the best catered sandwiches I've ever had (and great chicken, pasta, and salads). It was all from Paul Gregory's, and I vowed to stop in myself one day. I finally made it in today for lunch because I had a Record-Journal Deal of the Day coupon to use before it expires at the end of this week. At first, when you walk in, it's kind of confusing because there's some people sitting down at tables waiting to be served, some people ordering takeout, and a lot of baked goods to look at, which can be a little overwhelming. We weren't sure what to do at first - it kind of looked like we would order at the register and take our food to eat at a table, but I think you're actually supposed to order from the table if you're eating in. Either way, I grabbed my chips and Stewart's birch beer, and eventually I got my Hawk's Landing sandwich, a Thanksgiving sandwich, with house-roasted turkey, apple stuffing, cranberries, and Swiss cheese, and it came out warm and melted on a nice and toasty, buttery bun. It was amazing. I also got an apple caramel cupcake to go, which is incredible and sitting half-eaten next to me as I type this review. My boyfriend got a wanna-be Elvis cupcake, which was a banana cupcake filled with peanut butter. Everything on the menu looked wonderful, and the prices are pretty reasonable. The sandwiches were $6.50 and cupcakes were $3.50, which is a little more than cupcakes at other bakeries, but they're like the size of softballs, and they're quality. I'd go back for breakfast, or to grab a prepared meal for sure. Basically, everything we've had from here has been very good, and I'm looking forward to going back again soon. 1/8/12 Update: Stopped in again with another Deal of the Day Coupon. Ordered a chicken salad sandwich on rye with a side of potato salad. Boyfriend got a sandwich with shaved steak, blue cheese, and red pepper aioli. All of it was delicious. We left with some cannoli cupcakes, a vanilla cupcake, and a carrot cake cupcake - just as good as they looked on display. I really enjoy going to Paul's . The food is great. Presentation is superb Service is as good as they can be considering there is not enough staff to handle Sunday mornings. I have been there numerous times. Weekday mornings? Wonderful! Sunday's? Not so great. Waited 45 minutes for a grilled muffin and English muffin And I would continue going except that on more than one occasion and most recently Thursday morning, I have gone there and waited for them to open. On Thursday I stood there until 8:15 and finally walked away as the door was never opened. This is poor poor business practice and will eventually be the cause of their demise. Honestly. I saw Paul arrive at 7:58 and he knew we were out there. At least open the door and welcome your guests. I have been in Customer a service for 42 years. It is not Rocket Science. 8/12/15. Gave it one more try. Seriously understaffed. server not that friendly but let us know they will be charging a sharing fee going forward. We wanted to split a sandwich as we were just coming in for coffee after the gym. I am not a fan of a sharing fee. I was actually going to also order a pastry to share but after that news I did not. This is my last visit to this establishment. I understand the reasoning , if you have a lot of people sharing food, but at least it's a sale and they taste your food and come back. And tell others!!! I have had the pleasure of coming here for years now and maybe the reason I haven't wrote earlier about this place was to keep it all to myself. I have tried almost all of the breakfast & lunch items and my only gripe is that they got rid of the pastrami The breakfast sandwich is fantastic. I love the homemade sausage, egg, & cheese on their homemade English muffins. Trust me when I tell you you won't be disappointed with any of the breakfast menu. I could go on about the pancakes or fresh corned beef hash but who wants to read a war and peace like review? Not only are their sandwiches delicious but the vast majority of the meats are made in house as well as all the bread. I would recommend the ragged mountain. If your not a sandwich person try the flatboys, a clever take on pizza. If you have gone and left without trying any of their baked goods you have made a mistake allocating enough space in your stomach, shame on you. I myself can not leave without a bear claw, claws. You can taste the time and effort put into each one. Go there. Just make sure to save room for dessert. read more

Went out for some breakfast and headed in this direction based on some of the reviews I'd read. I must say, Paul Gregory's is a hidden gem. The Good: We ordered the "Signature Flatboy", which is their take on a breakfast pizza. Scrambled eggs, cheese, onions, peppers, and sausage was set on a buttery, crispy flatbread -- and it was delicious! They supposedly make their own english muffins and corned beef hash, but I did not get to try them. Alas. The woman working did an excellent job handling the floor. She was present without being annoying, quick to offer refills, and pleasant without coming off as smarmy or worse, disingenuous. They bill themselves as a bistro, cafe, market and they do have the feel of a small bistro or cafe. Excellent baked goods are in the case at the front. Colorful menu boards line the back wall behind the counter, and tables run along the opposite side of the room and into a nook in the back. All in all, it was very comfortable and I loved the eclectic mix of artwork on the walls. The Bad: I'm reaching at straws here, but I can see this place being very difficult to be in when it's busy. Voices carry and it's a small place overall. But when we went (Just before 8am on a Saturday) there were not a lot of people. The Ugly: Parking could be an issue since there is a limited amount of on-street parking for all the businesses in area. I saw an access drive adjacent to Paul Gregory's, but I'm not sure if it is for parking. Overall I really want to go back and try some of their other food. While there is nothing really out of the ordinary on the menu, they seem to focus on a more limited selection of simple, well-prepared fare. I definitely will be back. read more

I've lived in both Boston and New York City and I still think this Lunch/dinner: each one of their sandwiches is to die for. Went with a party of 6 hoping for a nice breakfast. The food was decent (waffle was thin and burnt, pancakes were uninspiring) and the service was absent-minded, but the bill was full-strength! The deserts and cupcakes in the case looked nice so maybe this place is more of a bakery, but skip the breakfast experience. (If you want that go to the Pepper Pot up the street.) The food is really good. Like amazing good. But the wait to eat-in is REALLY long. Like borderline "It's been long enough, I am walking out of here" long. We waited 45 minutes for French toast and a waffle. It was the best waffle I've ever tasted. You can instantly tell it is a chef, a master craftsman perfectionist and not just some sous chef making your meal. We have been back a few times and the wait was much shorter, but still too long for breakfast or lunch. We will keep going back with hopes that the servers are better managed and more in sync with the master in the upstairs kitchen. The baked goods are heavenly. I love the breakfast flatbread pizza here and they have some very tasty bakery treats. Don't bother getting the coffee, it's only okay but extremely expensive. Visited Paul's today for the first time. I am so happy I discovered this place!! Brought out-of-state visiting family for breakfast -- there were 6 of us and although this restaurant is bistro-sized we were pleasantly accommodated by the addition of a small table and 2 chairs which Joanne immediately arranged for us. The service (Joanne) was attentive and just so pleasant. The food is out of this world! We had pancakes, french toast and omelets. The coffee is good! The pancakes are ridiculously light, fluffy and thick with that beautiful crust around the edges. The veggie omelet was so beautiful I took a picture of it. The sous-chef stopped by and asked how everything was. I can't wait to bring more family & friends to this gem! read more

The service was pretty slow & they served us salad with a fried egg on top instead of the hard boiled egg that was ordered. That seemed sort of strange. My boyfriend and I were in the area for a funeral and it was Labor Day. The first place we yelped wasn't open, so we ended up at Paul Gregory's. Well, I am so glad we did! The portions were HUGE, the food was fresh and delicious! The place is small, so parties over 4 will not be able to sit together. There is a coffee bar, cakes and pastries as well as breakfast and lunch menu. We had breakfast- I got a bacon and cheese omelette and my boyfriend got the special for that day, an Irish eggs Benny. I swear there was a whole pound of bacon in my perfectly cheesy omelette, and the house made English muffins were astounding! I practically had to give my boyfriend some alone time with his corned beef hash (which he rated as his 3rd favorite) because it was just so amazing. The coffee was was good and I don't normally drink coffee. The only complaint would be that the home fries were not the crispy way we liked, even though we requested for them to be well done. I wanted to share an unfortunate experience at Paul Gregory's on Center Street yesterday when one of the servers told my sister & I that we wouldn't be able to sit & have a cup of coffee if more people came in. This same women had told a father & son that they could also not move their seats to be more comfortable, because more people might come in. One would think they might want to provide service to the patrons that are there, not potential ones. Isn't is a coffee shop? If we liked the coffee, & service for that matter, maybe next week we would've stayed for breakfast. Great atmosphere here. Ample parking. I went with 2 friends for breakfast. We arrived at 11am. I had called earlier in the week to check on breakfast time and was told it was served until noon. Turns out that was incorrect for weekdays and 11 is the cut off time (employee on Sat had confirmed that noon applied to Monday). Nevertheless, the AWESOME woman running the show by herself at the register and serving everyone apologized for the misinformation and ensured we got our breakfast. The food was good but arrived at the table lukewarm. I felt forgiving because the awesome woman running the show was constantly moving and taking care of people. No foul on the players present. However, the place ought to invest in a solution to this. Called ahead, reserved for 6 was told it was just, "12.99!!" a person and BYOB. So we arrived, sat, and ordered. They give you 2 wings per flavor you order so some of us only got 2 wings. We asked for more. 30 minutes later we still hadn't seen our waitress. I got up and politely asked, "Isn't tonight 'all you can eat wings?" She replied, "Yes but all you can eat is like 6 wings." I said, "yes but some of us only got 2 and that was like 30 minutes ago. We are hungry." They brought us a next round of 2 to 4 wings. I had lost my appetite for wings by now. I paid $14.99 per person with a tip included on the bill.(I almost left an additional $22 tip...glad I noticed) We left and went to another place to eat. I guess it's what I'd pay for a 6 piece anywhere else but it was not what we expected and not what was promoted. On the positive side, excellent fries, sauces dry rubs are good and their Head Chef is very polite and friendly. Our favorites were the pineapple habenero and garlic parm.
