Manager Zach and Maui Jim's!! I am a 52 year old man that was the senior buyer for a multi location sporting goods store before retiring due to cancer treatment, so I know a bit about how critical customer service is. When looking on Maui Jim's website at another pair of glasses, I searched for local dealers as I'm new to the Gilbert area. I saw that this Paul's Ace Hardware was one!! So, I went to them to check out their models late one Saturday and also to pick up some BBQ supplies. The specific model I wanted to try on was out of stock, so I left a note with my name, number and model that I wanted to see for when it got restocked. That Monday, I got a call from Zach that he had gotten the local Maui Jim sales rep to drop off their sample of that model for me to try on. That was just above and beyond for both Zach and his sales rep to do for me!! After trying it on and loving it, I asked him to order an extra pair for when he orders next and I offered to put down a deposit on it to lock it up. Just a week (?) later, he called to say that he had special ordered them in for me and they were ready for pick up!! Wow, that was fast!! Thank you Zach and also to your Maui Jim representative, for such superior customer service and follow up!! Despite having an Ace Hardware just .7 miles away (that I've had some VERY disappointing service from - two sales associates that answered the phone couldn't even tell me if they had dimensional lumber, AKA 2 x 4's. (2) calls totaling 13.9 minutes on hold!!), I will and have been ONLY shopping here. If I really need something, I go to ACE. Tried Home Depot for "footies" for my outdoor furniture. Even though I had a sample, the guy at HD just looked at me and said "I do not think we carry those" and walked away. That, after I had tracked someone down! At ACE, I walked in and several employees asked me how they could help me. I showed them and they immediately went back to the "footie" area and found what I needed. This is the second time I've been to ACE in the last few months. Each time, they are friendly and find exactly what I needed. Well that was my first and last time at Ace. I wanted to support my local hardware store. Not again. A man asked what I wanted, I told him what I was looking for. He said "do you really want to do that?" So, I tried to be patient. he made many assumptions. When i corrected two of them, he then forgot and went back to making incorrect statements about what my project. I left without most of the stuff was planning to buy. I did buy key copies. one lady behind the paint counter was not wearing her mask so I skipped buying paint as I did not want to work with someone not wearing a mask (it was on her chin). I now have an extra errand to go to Lowe's where customer service is always good. I will purchase paint for 3 rooms and the cords and wiring and switch and more garden tools. Update: I got home and 2/3 keys I made did not work, so i Had to go back and get money back for the faulty copying. read more

Wow! What great service. I called to see if they could replace the lower rollers on my sliding patio door screen. I was placed on hold and the call was transferred. No one picked up. As a last ditch effort I sent an email. Imagine my surprise when I received an immediate reply. I was put in touch with the store manager. She resolved the issue quickly. A new house means I have discovered Ace Hardware!! I don't think I'd ever been inside an Ace Hardware before, but a friend gave me a great coupon when I needed interior paint. Who knew I'd ever be interested in or need buy 2 gallons, get 1 free! Why yes, I took care of that. Ace has Valspar and Clark & Kensington paints (both owned by Ace, I think), and paintbrushes and other painting accoutrements. I've also bought a shower drain and shelf liner here. Other items they have include tools, household and auto cleaners, seasonal decorations, yard tools, stuff for your lawn and garden, lighting, and much more. The folks at this location have been really helpful every time I've been in. I can personally vouch by their ability to do paint color-matching! read more

This is the closest hardware store to my house and I'm glad they're here! They are my GO TO store for all my painting needs. The magicians there have matched many colors which have helped me out immensely and avoiding an expensive painter visit. They have a very good selection of things I've needed over the years: tool, bolts, nuts, other assorted household items like vents, valves, tubing. They also have some a nice odd ball selection of light bulbs. It can be hard to get someone to help you as I tend to not see employees around. Grab the person behind the register and have them page someone for you if you know you'll need help. If they don't have something on hand, then I'll venture down the road to the big box home improvement stores. read more

From the parking lot of Lowe's: Been here a few times, not sure why though. Not a great selection, prices are what you'd expect from a mom and pop shop, and customer service (especially this last time) leaves much to be desired, that is, the time associates are available. I came in looking to have a key cut, a key a manager told me they don't carry. I figured I'd be able to get that done and continue my shopping for some tools I need. The old fella told me, "you didn't buy that here so you can buy an $80 key, throw it in the trash, then I'll cut that key" with an attitude I'd expect from a 14 year old girl. Maybe he saw the truck I drive and wanted to extort me. Maybe he's just a grumpy elderly man who's far overdue for retirement and takes out his aggravation for the need to work on customers. Either way, I do NOT appreciate being spoken to that way, and I'm sure you'd be hard pressed to find people who do. Come on Ace, I'd gladly pay someone $80 to cut the key if they don't treat me like I just kicked their dog. Forget your "neighborhood hardware store." Forget supporting "the small guy." Put that guy in the janitor position and away from customers. My dollars will gladly be spent somewhere that customers are treated well. read more

This store is a joke. Both times I have tried to do curbside pick up with them I've been greeted with really rude, angry employees. No exception today. I called the store and asked for a manager, I got an acting store manager on the phone who was just about as rude as she could be. At one point she was telling me they didn't charge for orders until they're complete. I told her I was looking at my bank statement online where the money was taken out, she said no, it's just not true. I'm done with this store simply due to the crappy service provided by the employees/acting managers. So much for supporting your local Ace Hardware. Never again. 3 times you're out. read more

I told him I am unable to wear a mask because of a respiratory condition to which he said I don't care you have to wear a mask in the store. So I walked out. I used to be a regular,3-4 times a week, at this particular Ace Hardware until I moved a little further out where I am still a regular for Ace Hardware. But I came in there to get a couple things and after this I will never set foot in a Paul's Ace Hardware again no matter what. I found the people here to be very helpful and they have real know how. Any time I have gone here they have things I can not find any where else. I prefer going to a hardware store where all you need is right there. Sometimes things are a bit more expensive and when you find what you want so easy you tend to want to purchase it while you are there. This place really is fantastic. In a world of faceless, big box hardware warehouses filled to the ceiling with wares and employed by complete morons or lifeless zombies, Paul's Ace is heaven-sent. I have never had a bad experience here, in fact, quite the opposite. Every trip has been a buying pleasure. As you enter the store you are greeted by a friendly and knowledgeable staff member who will point you in whatever direction you need to go. It seems like every aisle you turn down there is a smiling, happy face to greet you and to assist you with whatever you need. Not to mention these guys/gals really know their stuff. They seem to LOVE hardware. They are more than happy to, without even asking, carry your items to the counter for you and even offer to carry them out to your car. Real class acts. The best part of this place is that they are not corporate neutered pussies and will actually offer services the "other guys" won't because of rules imposed by some bullshit corporate mandate out of fear of a law-suit. Fuck faceless corporations and fuck attorneys. Pau's Ace isn't as big as the other guys, and you may pay a few pennies more, but it is worth EVERY penny. Plus, if you're like me and equate time with money, you actually come out ahead of the game by shopping here because you don't waste your precious time wading through 100,000 sq/ft of bullshit staffed with complete dockles. No self-checkout here with a toothless, ogrish overseer, great service from start to finish. OH, they've got a great popcorn machine too! read more

So you've just found yourself looking for a hardware store. Quick, Home Depot, Lowe's, or Ace Hardware. That's basically your options in Gilbert. You can find most anything you need at Ace Hardware, and it's a locally owned business. So that alone should steer you here. I've priced checked multiple times for a number of items between Ace and the Lowe's on Gilbert/Warner. Ace Hardware either comes out equal or just a tad bit more expensive. So why shop here if it's a bit more expensive? The service. That's why your on Yelp right? When you ask them a question at Ace, they will know the answer, or find someone who can. This place has saved me a bunch of time and money by not buying the wrong part, or wrong tool, or having to drive back 3 more times to buy the right thing. When it's 7:30 pm at night, the sun is fading and you just want to shower up and eat dinner, that will be important. So you can go to your big box hardware store, but who really needs extension cords in 8 colors, when you can buy the one you need and be in and out. I've always found whatever I'm looking for. Protip: Sign up for their reward program. I've gotten about $20+ in the last 2 years just from normal everyday purchases. Also, don't forget to check in!! They always have a $5 off of $25 purchase. Makes me spend more but I'll stock up on air filters. read more

So, made three trips here in past four days. Great service and wide selection (for example, they carry Benjamin Moore, Dunn Edwards, Valspar, and Kilz's new Magnolia Home all in one spot). I was gathering paint samples and was told on Friday and again on Sunday there was a buy one get one free on gallons through Tuesday. Two separate paint guys told me this. Well I drive out here after work today, Tuesday, and am told the sale ended yesterday. I mentioned what I was told this weekend. They mumbled something about if you had a coupon from their flyer, BOGO was good through Tuesday, but the sale ended Monday. (What??) So...get it in writing I guess. I came here for a replacement automotive M14 metric bolt. The associate in the nuts and bolts section was currently busy assisting another customer, so I asked him to call someone to assist me. After 15 minutes of waiting I saw the same associate walk down the aisle I was in. When he saw me he turned around and walked away. When I finally did get someone's attention I was told there was no comparable replacement in stock. He didn't even try to size the bolt he just looked at it and said no. Don't shop here if it's late...they will turn the lights off on you even if you have a cart full of stuff and it's near closing time.
