I was helped by a very kind, knowledgeable young man by the name of Evan. He was very patient with me as I tried to explain what I was looking for. Even though I was vague in my description, he led me around the store and helped me put together exactly what I needed! The young lady at.the check-out, Savana, is just as sweet as can be. Went in for a screwdriver that wouldn't have even worked and if it wasn't for Jackson at the front desk my trip would have hit a big halt!! I went in for a self storage lock as mine had the key busted inside. The locksmith gentleman showed me the options and when I showed him that my key had broken in my old lock he proceeded to work on taking the broken key out. After 10 tools and less than 10 minutes he fixed my broken lock and sent me on my way. Not many other people or companies would have done that! My favorite hardware store for looking for unique items. The store seems to carry inventory used by the local home builders. The big box stores carry generic inventory which is great if you need a 2" x 4". I was looking for a specific cap screw. They have a super wide selection of screws, nuts, bolts and little hardware pieces you can't find elsewhere. The sales cleck came by to help me out since they have such a wide selection of screws in different materials and colors. She even assembled my bracket with the screws. They have great customer service. read more

This Ace is near my home. I like it that Ace sells little nuts and bolts and screws by the piece, including in stainless steel. One time this Ace had a box of 100 stainless steel screws for $12, when HD only had them in packages of 6 for $2. The staff are always helpful and there for you. They used to have popcorn too, till Covid came around and ended that. I always kid them when I buy 5 screws for a $1 and I say "Your big sale of the day!" Ace sometimes has lawn chemicals not found elsewhere, and their prices are maybe 20% less than Bug and WeedMart. Sometimes I get a $5 gift card from Ace, and one of the most previous things I used it on was a $12 indoor-outdoor digital thermometer which I used in my little RV to tell me what my RV refrigerator temp was, and my indoor temp house temp at the same time. read more

I LOVE this place! Always ask me what I'm looking for the minute I walk in. I don't have to wander around looking for it. Even if they just tell me what aisle, that's great, but there's always someone meeting me there to help me. It's Hanukkah. We're on our way to Temple Friday night, when our daughter's homemade menorah (she's bringing for the creative menorah museum) breaks. Yikes. What to do?? We run in to Ace, knowing they're always so pleasant and helpful, hoping someone can suggest a quick fix of a glue that will work like hot glue. Genevieve not only suggested something--e6000--but found some in the back, and did the fix herself!!! She really saved our night. In a world of Amazon, Home Depots and Walmarts, it's wonderful to still have a neighborhood Ace to turn to for help. We recently rediscovered the Paul's near our home at FLW and Via Linda and have made it our first stop for anything they might carry. (In fact, most of the supplies for said menorah were bought there.) I hope many people will do the same, so we always have wonderful, neighborhood places to shop and people like Genevieve to come to the rescue when needed! Keep up the good work Paul's. Putting in a new kitchen faucet, I needed a new sink drain piece above the p-trap because the old one was old and came apart. I took the pieces in and had three people helping me find replacement parts. I believe the manager cut the new pipe for me free of charge and assembled the pieces for me so I could easily install when I got home. Completely ABOVE and BEYOND customer service! read more

Stopped in after work today (Sunday...10/15/2023) as Home Depot was no help. First I was happy to see they were open till 6:00 on a Sunday. I walked in and was Greeted by Mark.....I explained about the small screws that I needed......he looked at it and called back for another employee (also named Mark) to meet be back by the aisle with screws, bolts, etc......I met the second Mark there who, within 2 minutes, found exactly what I needed. I used to be a regular customer. Now I only stop here if I need an oddball screw or washer. A couple years ago, I started noticing inventory getting leaner and common items more frequently out of stock. I have since come to refer to Ace as 'the Venezuelan grocery store,' as shelves, bins and pegs all over the store are empty every day. Even the impulse buy merchandise near the registers are often just one unit of an item pushed to the front of an empty shelf. The staff are always helpful, friendly and contrite, if not a bit embarrassed, about the situation. I feel bad for them. Nonetheless, I'm not waiting until 'the next truck' comes with something every big box store has on-hand in quantity, for a job I need to do today. Eight of the last ten times I've stopped by for something Ace 'carries,' I've left empty handed. I really want to shop locally-owned businesses first and I loved Ace when they first opened. Good people work there and I want to help them too. But I drive by them a couple times a week on the way to Home Despot so as not to waste my time perusing empty bins. read more

It is with a heavy heart that I write this review. moving to S. Scottsdale in 1980 Ace hardware was my destination location, and still has been. Me or a staff member are in the store six times a week. On several occasions I have had the privilege to speak with Paul Dauwalder prior to his passing in 1991. Recent events have me thinking he might be quite disappointed in his legacy. My wife and I are 22 year full time volunteers at a Parrot Sanctuary where I repair donated things to pass along to over 800+ Parrots. During this time Paul's Ace hardware has supported my efforts with donations of hardware items, I have never ask for anything but hardware items for my repairs. This is at the rate of about four times in 20 years. We have always given a receipt for 501c3 deductions for their contribution. About three weeks ago I submitted a typed list on our stationary of items I would like to have. Handed it in person to a manager who stated they would contact me when it was ready. Four days later I stopped in when shopping and spoke with another manager who stated the items were being pulled from another store to finish the order. Three days ago I contacted the store who told me no manager was working and that she would have a manager contact me. That is the end of my story. read more

I needed some stake tape for my tomato plants and it was a tomato emergency so off to Ace I went.. being that its my local neighborhood store you'd think I would have been in here before. The Mr LOVES this place and is constantly making up reasons to go here.. The supplies are available and I go away knowing I have purchased what I need. Having an older house can be an issue. Paul's has the supplies for those older homes. Yesterday I stopped at this Ace Hardware after being sent there because Home Depot said this store carried a larger supply of screws. A young man named Sam relentlessly searched for the smallest item needed to install a Delta grab bar purchased elsewhere. He found it, which cost just 65 cents, and I was able to have the grab bar installed later in the day. He was especially polite and personable. If I had a business, I'd try to hire him to work for me!!! read more

Man, I'm new to AZ, and was excited to see a hardware store where people really know their stuff. I was in there looking for a specific screw for my desk. It had to be just about right. I went in, and a gentleman was at the front, I believe his name was Dan or something like that. He was younger but very knowledgeable. He was friendly, and when I said I was new to AZ, he welcomed me and hoped to see me more often. We walked over to the bolt area, and took a little time walking around. After checking several boxes, we found the one that would work. I am not the most knowledgeable when it comes to hardware or home repair in general. Coming into this Ace has me comfortable knowing I can ask questions and get answers. I was able to get in and out quickly and without issue, which is something I really appreciate! Our daughters moved to a new home near Paul's Ace Hardware store. We love the location, but the helpfulness of the people who work in there, and the selection of items we needed were actually more than the big box stores. The prices were good, too. Very neat and organized store. We were able to buy everything we needed on our list. read more

Temperatures are too low for my liking these days so I took off to the closest hardware store in search of a space heater and of course an extension cord to make it all possible. Luckily, the closest hardware store is Ace. I prefer Ace because it always has that good ol' neighborhood feel to it. Paul's certainly has that, he even sells local honey. After scanning the aisles for a bit, a man asked me what I was looking for and directed me to the right direction. I found him again once I realized I'd almost forgotten the extension cord. He was helpful, but not really friendly. In fact, I felt a bit rushed to get out by him. The cashier was really friendly, making small talk and being really upbeat. Did they have what I needed? Yes. Was it a truly memorable experience? No. Overall, it was a basic stop at Ace Hardware but even a basic stop is still better than Home Depot. read more

Selection and friendly employees are really top notch. This store is less than a mile from my house, yet I drive more than twice as far to Home Depot. Why? Since this store opened, I've found their pricing approaching twice as much at Home Depot. Typically I'm not much of a price shopper, but paying 2X for household repair items just doesn't make sense. Recently I traveled to an Ace Hardware in Santa Maria, CA. The store was huge, the prices were on par with Home Depot and the staff was accommodating. Paul's Ace hardware is excellent, forget about HOME DEPOT and their big box baloney (or bologna), we gotta support these smaller local businesses. Personally I have never met Paul but based on the customer service I've experienced as well as free popcorn I'm gonna have to go on record and say he probably is pretty kick ass. Quick story: When I was there last 2 kids came in after school because they saw the free popcorn. They politely asked and the man at the register if they could have some and he said go ahead, didnt make them buy 2 x 4's or a bucket of paint :). The have shelf liner in many shapes and sizes (3rd place I tried, so glad they had it!), plus ice cream to sustain us through moving day - and excellent service, to boot! The rest if their selection looked pretty good, too - a little bit of everything. Much smaller and cozier than a Lowes, and probably covers a lot of the average person's needs. ACE is the place for service. The newest store (5) is hidden away in a strip mall on McDonald Drive with ample parking between Hayden and Pima. I found what I needed on my first trip but had to return a couple of bathroom items plus was missing a set screw in a towel bar and needed a couple more items. I was directed to the back of the store for a set screw replacement and someone was there to greet me. This took a few moments and on my way out picked up two other items. When I got to the front the clerk was busy but had already loaded the return info in the computer. The other clerk was ready for me and all that was needed was to scan the two new items and I was on my way. In and out in less than ten minutes. Try to get that kind of service elsewhere! read more
