We've been taking our fur baby, Logan there for 2 years and he practically jumps out of the car before I can get the door open. It's his home away from home and we know we're leaving him in great hands. He's never come home sick. The place is kept super clean & vaccinations are checked regularly. We had to board Logan while away on vacation and we were missing him so much. When, to our surprise, a staff member at Paw Commons sent us the greatest photo of Logan having fun with his buddies (photo included) putting us at ease and allowing us to enjoy the rest of our trip. I am a regular customer here over the past year with my 2 pomeranians. They are a very efficient and friendly operation with competitive prices for grooming and daycare. My dogs are always cared for and happy here. They sell a nice variety of high end treats and toys. My dogs love their treats! The brand of dog food they sell has changed for the better and the canned food my dogs go crazy for! All high quality food! Just love it! Highly recommend!! Live camera's all day for day care. I am not one who ever leaves reviews online, but I really felt Darlene (who has groomed both our dogs for about 5 years) deserves this. She is so skilled at her job, always careful with every detail and goes above and beyond what is requested. Our dogs always come home so perfectly cared for and beautifully groomed. But beyond that, I really trust her with the well being and health of our dogs, and anyone who loves their pets knows the value of this. She is sincere and generous and really loves these animals. I can't say enough great things about Paw Commons. We take our puppy here for daycare, grooming and boarding. Every staff member we've interacted with is so friendly and caring that we always feel comfortable with our puppy being there. The webcam is also a fun addition so you can check in on them every so often. The first few days we spotted her hiding in the corner but the staff worked with her to build confidence and now she's socializing with all of the other dogs! The second we pull into the parking lot, she is ready to jump out of the car and run behind the desk inside to give everyone kisses. I will be regularly bringing my dog here for grooming! They did an excellent job. I have a one year old bernedoodle who gets extra scruffy and needs a really great groomer. I'm so happy to have finally found that at paw commons. They were able to trim all the places that other groomers struggle with (near her eyes, her belly, and her tail). I have been taking my dog Cash to Paw commons in Encinitas since October 2023. The staff are awesome and it's so cute that they remember the dogs names when they come in. In addition to the regular daycare, I also purchased the puppy kindergarten package that included 5 LAB sessions during daycare and 6 private lessons. Dakota, the trainer, is amazing and I immediately notice a difference with just the LAB sessions. Cash's basic obedience improved and his response times were much faster. During the LABs/training, there is also the opportunity to take them outside/in public to give them exposure to different surroundings and experiences. We are currently in the middle of the private lessons with Dakota. These lessons have been extremely helpful in teaching me how to continue training with Cash at home so there is consistency in what, and how, he is learning. I couldn't be happier with his progress or with Dakota and the other staff. read more

I strongly advise NOT taking your dog here! The very first day we tried it the dogs were left alone and my small 8 month old dog was being mounted by a larger dog without any intervention and when someone came in my dog ran to the person for help. I happened to catch it on the pet cam. Seriously disturbed! And their response was weak at best. There is a clear picture of the yard and my 8 lb puppy was mixed in with land, Shepard's etc. also when my husband went to pick him up they tried to give our dog to another customer. My chocolate lab Chestnut couldn't be around other dogs without getting frightened and eventually nipping the other dog. It was horrible, couldn't take her on walks or to the park like I had always dreamed of. After 5 lessons with Christie, Chestnut is a fantastic walker, doesn't nip at other dogs when they come in contact and generally is a much more calm, relaxed and HAPPY pup. We adopted a wild 7 month old fox hound. At the time they asked "are you sure" "you can bring him back." He had been retuned the day before. When we got home we understood why. A crazy zoomie wild boy with no manners. Biting, jumping, begging, etc. We looked online and decided to try Paw Commons trainer Danielle. We left him for two weeks and he came back a totally different pup. Sit, stay, his place for our dinner time, and he even sits and waits for his dinner. The place was nice and the girls were friendly (disorganized, but friendly). Drove pretty far for the good reviews and the deal I found, but I love my GSD so I didn't mind so much getting her a whole brush/bath/nail trim package (+$20 for the furminator since they were against trimming her) every now and then. She really didn't smell particularly great when she came out, still pretty dog-smelling, just with an added whiff of soap. The next day, we noticed she was whining more than usual. In the coming days she would shake her head really hard, also seemingly for no reason. We brushed it off as her just being weird, but then she started tearing stuff up while we were gone --cry for attention since she's way too old for it to be a puppy-type issue and she's been used to staying at home all day for years. Got worse and we ended up at the vet with what turned out to be pretty nasty ear infection. According to the vet, they let too much soap and water into her ears and didn't dry her correctly after the bath. Poor girl. She'll be fine, but we definitely won't be coming back now that we are an addition to the negative grooming-issue reviews here. read more

Staff is friendly, however I sent my dog in for a few days and when I picked him back up I noticed he's licking at his scrotum. I decided to look at it and it was severely inflamed with scaling and redness. I took him to the vet and we believe it was contact dermatitis (a reaction to something he was in contact with while boarding) based on the location of the reaction. I had to get some topical medications for him but he still is in pain and squealing (7 days later). It's getting better but I don't understand why no one reported it, especially since he showered with them the day I picked him up (it would be more likely to have been noticed). I think his change of behavior and licking to the area should have also indicated an issue. read more

When you take your pet in for a cut and shampoo you expect to get them back in the same condition as you left them. Not so when we picked up our dog last week. She came back with a severe cut on her face that has not properly healed. Now we must take her to the vet and have it looked at. When we contacted the store they denied any responsibility and said she must have had it before she came in. Not true!!! Seems their groomers turn over pretty fast, at least that has been our experience. read more

Took my French Bulldog here last minute and they were very accommodating. My little guy got to socialize for about 5 hours and was pooped when I came to pick him up. My only critique is that there isn't an area for the dogs to relax on their own in the daycare service. They are in the open play area the entire time. I don't love this because my pup needs to have some time to lay down when he is around other dogs for extended periods of time. Other than that I would absolutely take him here again! read more

I was a total skeptic to doggy day care. I had a horrible experience with another daycare and what better way to express how thankful I am for my experience on Paw Commons than to share it with other dog owners through Yelp! Courtney has patiently answered all my concerns, multiple phone calls, questions, and calmed me of ALL my worries. I don't know how she does it. Hopefully not all dog parents are like me. There is true authenticity in her voice when she gives me reassurance that my 42 lb puppy is doing just fine ( I realize it's me and my puppy is exceptionally and more than fine) They accommodated Kalliopea (doberman pinscher) eating schedule, accepted her own pillow for her "room" , and even her own toy. Allie the groomer for paw commons is so knowledgeable and Kalliopea loves her. (Actually Kalliopea loves everyone there.) I had some concerns and Allie knew exactly what I was referring to. Gave me knowledgeable information and products and solutions for us moving forward. She even took photos of Kalliopea before and after bath. I really can't express how thankful I am for these group of people who will love your dog while you're away. Very nice staff. My dog came back groomed, except with a few flaws. She had so much loose hair on her, and when I got her home I could not stop sneezing. She's a hypoallergenic puppy and after getting her and holding her, I had allergies. Not sure what it was from, but I had to rinse her off again. I think I'd go back, because their price wasn't that bad and she was taken care of. Also, there were spots on her that had longer patches than the rest of her body. Which was disappointing. I cannot say enough about the team at Paw Commons. Danielle, exceeded our expectations in every way as a trainer. We were gun shy, as having been through other training that was less than satisfactory, she was amazing! She was professional, honest, thorough , dependable and frankly life changing. Our dog, even though large and seemingly dominant, was an anxious and scared dog with zero confidence. She turned it all around. Our dog, who could not share space with any other dog without lunging, was within the space of a week, co-mingling with 30 other Dogs, and with confidence! His training created a space where he listens, complies, walks with confidence and is above all, HAPPY! Do yourself a favor and trust the team at Paw Commons and more so, give Danielle your trust. She literally changed our lives and Otis looks forward to going to daycare and seeing her, and all the friends he met when he was there. This is an update since the last time we used Paw Commons for Piper's grooming. Since then, my husband and I purchased a daycare package booklet for both our girls, Myla and Piper. We have been extremely satisfied with their customer service, paw cams online, how much love and attention they get, and how worn out the girls are after getting to play all day! We also got to see Allie (or Ally?) another time for Piper's grooming, and once again - TOP NOTCH! She's always such a help and goes above and beyond to make Piper more manageable with her crazy coat! My family went to Ireland over Christmas break, and we had to find a last minute place to board our 4 month old puppy Romeo. Luckily Paw Commons Encinitas had space for him. I sent them an email and they responded in less then an hour, and I was able to book him a room (went with the standard size since he's not very big). When we dropped him off the staff were very friendly and he seemed to really like them. While we were gone I really appreciated the webcam in the playroom, he looked like he had a lot of fun playing. When I went to pick him up, the staff was super nice, and told us about how he had made a lot of friends in the playroom. They even gave him a free bath! I hate to do this as I think Paw Commons is a clean and friendly place but I must share my experience...I would like to be clear that this 1 Star Review does not reflect the facility or the staff as everyone has been super friendly. The review reflects our experience and aftermath from boarding our dogs. I have two mini dachshunds about 2 years old and have taken them to boarding facilities before and have NEVER had an issue with them getting sick or hurt. We moved to Encinitas last year and had only used Paw Commons Encinitas once for a day camp. However, this past Saturday (6/23/18) we boarded them for the first time. When I dropped off my dogs Saturday morning they seemed perfectly fine. However, when I picked them up on Sunday they both smelled SO bad! To the point that I was gagging in my car and immediately gave them a bath when we got back home. By Sunday afternoon, though I noticed that they were very sick. One dog seemed relatively ok with an upset stomach and the runs for two days. A quick visit to our regular vet and he is much better. My other dog though could not stop throwing up and was very lethargic. We had to rush him to the emergency hospital not once but twice in a three day period. His heart rate was alarmingly low and he was hospitalized over the course of two days. The hospital did not seem to think he might make it but luckily he pulled through and is on the mend back at home (after a $2,000) hospital bill. The hospital never seemed to figure out what was wrong but they concluded that they both picked some sort of intestinal infection at a public place. I called Paw Commons twice while at the hospital, first asking if my dogs had thrown up or had runny stools and was told no, they were fine during their stay. The second time I called was just to report that my dog might die due to something he had caught and I wanted them to know just in case if more dog owners called in regarding their sick dogs. The receptionist said that she would let the manager know and that if anyone reported something, I would receive a call (never did). I am well aware that my dogs may have been sick prior to dropping them off and I just didn't notice it. I mostly just wanted them to know that two healthy dogs went and but two VERY sick dogs came out, one of which almost died. We have a clean/tidy house and yard and don't take our dogs out often as they are small. They are both healthy, have never had problems, and are updated on all of their shots. read more

(2 stars) My husky pup went in healthy for boarding/day play and left with a festering ****hot spot, smelling like urine, and with far too much energy after a weekend of paying for "play time." I also watched the web cam for extended periods of time while I was away and saw many dogs pee and poop in the indoor play area - I understand accidents happen, but the staff wasn't as quick as I'd hoped in cleaning it up. To top it off, I paid for a bath service that was not worth it because her fur reeked of urine when I picked her up. On the positive side, the front desk ladies are extremely friendly and clearly love dogs very much. (1 star) ****UPDATE: The "hot spot" the staff "found" on my girl is not a hot spot after all (she'd never had a hot spot before). After a trip to the vet this morning, I learned it is instead a puncture wound - she was bitten by another dog during her stay at Paw Commons Encinitas. The worst part about this is is I felt I was misled when the establishment didn't immediately disclose this to me/they attempted to cover it up. The follow-up call from the manager didn't ease my concerns either because he downplayed her injury and barely apologized. Thankfully our vet is helping her heal and I was given a refund from Paw Commons. (3 stars) Final update: Paw Commons CEO, Ben Vosberg, reached out to me directly and redeemed our sour situation. He was respectful, understanding, and apologetic. After receiving a refund for my pup's stay, he comped the vet bill, put 3 nights free to our account, and checked in with her progress regularly. It's unfortunate the ordeal escalated to a C-suite executive, but it was a pleasure chatting with Ben. I hope the local manager can learn from his leadership and communication skills. read more

If you love your dog, you will not bring it to this place. This is a long review, but worth reading. I was researching places to board my 7 month old puppy for 8 days in June and did a 4 hour meet and greet at Paw Commons, Encinitas-they had amazing reviews. The staff were very friendly and I took a tour of the facility. Then they put my puppy in with the other dogs. They said they have rooms for small AND large dogs. My dog (7lbs) was the smallest dog in the room and the other dogs were much larger than he was. He stayed backed in the corner for quite some time and then he tried to move aroung the 'yard' with the other dogs. I looked on the web cam and never saw him. The cam only covers a small area. I called after about an hour there and they said he was fine. As soon as we picked him up, he smelled terrible...like he was rolling aroung in pee. When we got in the car he was pawing at my water bottle, so I gave him a drink. When we got home, he drank a whole bowl of water. The next day my dog was lethargic and shaking like a leaf. I called the vet and they said to bring him in. The vet said he was extremely dehydrated and needed iv fluids. He spent the day at the hospital getting fluids and having tests done. He also had an intestinal bug. The vet bill was $613.50!. After dropping off my baby at the hospital, I called PC and asked for the Manager. The assistant manager took my call and I explained what happened and that I wanted to speak with the Manager. She called me back later in the day, relaying a message from the Manager (did not even give me the courtesy to speaking to the Manager) saying they were sorry and they can't make the dogs drink. She made lots of excuses and that was that. I cancelled my 8 day overnight and the call was done. I told her my feedback was to WATCH first timers and puppies to be sure they hydrate. I would have thought PC would have been more accommodating and understanding of what happened. They seemed like they did not care about what happened to my baby or that I was cancelling the overnight and had this terrible experience. They had no remorse or apologies. They did not say in the future they would pay more attention to the dogs or thanks for the feedback. Very dissappointed. read more

We've been taking our puppy to Paw Commons for over a year now - she loves going to doggy daycare and all PC staff are wonderful . Earlier this year, we spent 5 weeks in one-on-one training with Christie to address our puppy's barking. She is incredible! She not only taught us how to manage Lilly's barking, but she also gave us tips and tools for training our pup - jumping, dealing with separation anxiety, sit, stay, come, answering to her name. After an incredible one-on-one training with Christie, we decided to take advantage of her American Kennel Club Good Citizen training program. Again, Christie was amazing and helped us learn how to be great dog owners and train our pup. We've also had Lilly groomed at PC Encinitas several times - both groomers are great!
