Which took the time to show us everything Sulley learned during camp, gave us tips and suggestions and what to expect with Sulley's new behaviors. Updating here because I was contacted by Sagan from Paw Commons about my original review, and she offered to extend my punch card out to September 1st which I genuinely appreciate! The positives and negatives of my original review still stand for me - the fact that prepaid dates can expire is a legitimate drawback in my mind, but their customer service is top notch and I really appreciate their ability to take daycare appointments on very short notice. When talking to Sagan, I did raise the topic of notifying customers if their prepaid dates are approaching expiration. Given how high quality their overall service is, I was and still am surprised that I didn't receive any notification - to the point that I originally thought that I *must* have missed an email or phone call. She agreed that automated notifications would be a helpful addition to their software, and that she'd be notifying their SE team about it as an added feature. As an SE myself, I know how long and convoluted a product backlog can get - so whether anything comes out of it or not, I at least appreciate that Sagan listened to me and seemed to genuinely agree with my point of view. read more

I highly recommend Paw Commons for dog boarding. This was the first time I have ever boarded my dog and I was a little nervous. Our usual dog/house sitter couldn't help out this time. Paw Commons was recommended by a friend and I'm so glad I used them. They took great care of our dog, Dude. They had many great options for all our needs. Different types of rooms, social/1 on 1 time to keep him happy and cared for, multiple options for food & treats and grooming services when we picked him up. They even sent me daily updates with how he was doing and pictures while we were gone. It was really comforting to see he was happy, eating and doing great. Its like Dude had his own vacation at a pet resort with a spa! The staff was really helpful and I knew I could trust them. I will definitely use them again. Paw commons training camp changed our lives. Heather and her team of trainers were absolutely amazing! To give some context, we adopted our dog, Hunter, from a shelter a few years ago. He is a German shepherd/husky mix and about 5 years old. We taught him some skills, but my husband and I never had pets before so we didn't really know where to start with leash skills and at times struggled to maintain consistency when we did try to train him. Hunter also had pretty intense anxiety and was easily overstimulated. After trying on our own to train him for two years and then boarding him overnight, we saw his anxiety peak. We realized we needed a trainer to help us. Cue Heather and the Paw Commons team. They met with us and Hunter and listened to all our concerns and what we wanted to see improved. This is a review for the training services with Heather. To give some backround, this is by no means our first dog, but our first dog that is very very sweet but socially awkward. So we consulted pet commons. The process was simple enough, we scheduled an evaluation to see what training our dog Winnie would benefit from the most. Heather our trainer was kind, knowledgeable, and listened to our concerns with Winnie. She even offered some useful tips with her jumping and explained dog body language. So it was kinda like a mini evaluation of her skills as a trainer as well. We also were able to take a tour of the pet facility. Given the amount of dogs that are kept here the place was VERY clean. After all of this we decided to go with Heather and her recommendation of 2 weeks boarding pet training and put down a deposit. During her training period we missed our dog but we knew she was in safe hands. When we went to sign her in, the staff was very kind and winnie suprisingly warmed up a lot quicker then we expected.The facility also has dog cams so you can watch ur pupper play during the day. We also recieved updates from Heather via pictures and videos of her progress. Heather was easy to reach and answered any questions we had. One thing I especially liked is how well Winnie took to Heather. In my opinion you cant fake that! My dog genuinely loved her ! When it was time to get her, idk who was more excited us or Winnie! Heather took her time to explain all the things winnie has learned. Heather also encouraged us to do the training so we can get a feel for it . It was a welcomed hands on experience. She also gave us some tips for training reinforcement. She also emailed information on the new tricks and training she learned so we can continue to do them at home. As far as winnie's training, she came back a different dog. :) She no longer pulls and she is so much better around other animals and people. Even though my partner and I are still new at enforcing her training, we are happy that with the amount of things she has learned. In a way I felt this was like a maturing experience for her ! lol! If you were to ask me down the line if training with Heather was worth it, with out hesitation it would be yes! My dog is finally coming out of her shell. She looked exactly like she did when she went in, but smelled a lot better. We just picked up our pup Kali from her three week board and train program and we could not be happier with our decision to invest in her. The entire crew at the Bay Park facility has been amazing. From evaluation to graduation we felt that Kali was in great hands. The front desk staff made us feel so welcomed and you can tell that everyone genuinely loves being around the animals. Kali's trainer Heather answered all of our questions, concerns and helped us to set goals for the 3 week training session. The level of care that was given to Kali was amazing. Heather would send daily video clips of Kali's training sessions so that we could see her progress and kept us in the loop of her successes and her challenges. We adopted a dog over a year and a half ago. As an older couple we SHOULD have gotten an older dog. But it was love at first sight. Fergus turned out to be a hand full. We potty trained him and taught him the basics. But as he got older behavior problems developed. I had been taking him to Paw Commons as a treat. He LOVES IT. He gets to play with all the other dogs. I found out they also offered training. I met with Heather, manager of training. I explained Fergus has issues walking with me and was now leash aggressive to other dogs. Working with Heather Fergus is now able to walk on a leash and pass other dogs without lunging at passing dogs. Fergus has gone on pack walks with a group of dogs and has learned to run on a treadmill! And the cherry on top was this Christmas while boarding I received pictures of Fergus at daycare :) I can't say enough about this daycare program and training program. read more

I was in a bind one day as I really needed someone to watch my dog for a day but his normal daycare was completely full. This location was close to my office and was able to accommodate us despite my last minute need. I felt like the lobby was very clean and I liked being able to look into the play area. They provided a report card which I really liked the idea of but also contributed to why I took off two stars. There are some check boxes on the form and they checked off that my dogs favorite activity was "belly rubs". My dog has literally NEVER once, stayed for a belly rub. If you scratch his belly he'll move away from you. It made me feel like the report card was disingenuous and just was filled out to say they did it. Had they just not provided it, we would have left on a great note but since they felt the need to make something up it left a bad taste in my mouth. read more

We want to thank Heather for training our 3 year old cream golden retriever. When we reached out to get information about training. Heather took the time to go over the training program and listened to our needs for Xander. We did the 5 week overnight program to reinforce basic commands, most importantly for us was the ability to walk Xander by our side without him pulling and getting distracted by everything around. As soon as we picked him up we could see the difference. She followed up the training by transferring the knowledge to us, so that we can continue to reinforce this new behavior. Heather has really made walks with Xander easier and more pleasant. We get so many compliments for Xander's good behavior. Throughout the stay, Heather kept us informed of the progress by sending us pictures and videos. Xander loves her, I'm very happy we did this training. read more

This place is disgusting I will never ever take my dog back to this gross establishment. The second you walk in the place reeks of urine. The smell of urine is so overwhelming it made me nauseous.That should of been the first red flag... Thought it would be a good idea to leave my dog here for a week, what a big mistake I made upon returning to pick up my dog I noticed he lost a lot of weight also he seemed so unhappy not sure why but it was evident he was not being feed properly and not taken care of the way he should of been. It's clear to me Pet Common tries to put as many dogs as they can fit into a small building! Honestly this place should be shut down for animal cruelty! Shame on you Paw Commons! Don't take your pets to this location if you care about them !!!! They don't take responsibility if something happens to your pet and they simply just don't care. Used to be amazing about a year ago but they've been changed and not for the better. 2 times ago when I took him in no one called me to tell me he was ready and since he wasn't fixed at the time they just left him locked up in a kennel for a few hours and he came back to o me with pee all over his back 2 legs . Gave them another chance , he came back with major irritation on 3 paws , they didn't clean the area I brought him in for and basically said oh well. I contacted them immediately after getting home and they said they were going to get back to me on what they could do but would probably give me a refund, I ended up paying with cash so they told me I could just come in for a free bath but they need to get approval and they were going to call me, but no one ever did so when I called today to find out about this and take him to a different location they said it was only $11 of credit for my $80 bath that they didn't even wash him at. Never a bad experience here. My dog frequents this location for overnight visits (ranging from 1 night to 4 or 5) and always seems good when we pick him up. He eats well while there and resumes normal behaviors once we're home. He often is returned to us smelling better than he did when we dropped him off, which I appreciate. Staff is friendly and I like being able to watch him on the doggie cam while away. Overall, satisfied with the service and level of care he receives and would have no concerns recommending to others. What I originally wanted to say maxed out the number of characters Yelp allows (5,000 if you're wondering, and yes I had A LOT to say) so here's the short version. I really wanted to like this place but my experience with Paw Commons has been annoying and disappointing. I did not feel valued as a customer. First it was being overcharged $125 for boarding because I wanted my puppy to play with other dogs while I'm away and nowhere in the paper work/no one told me they charged for play time (messed up for a dog facility btw), then it's the trainer quitting 3 days before training camp after waiting 2 months bc she had issues w the owner of company (red flag), not to mention I planned my month around Benny (my pup) being away and paid a non refundable deposit so I had no choice, then it was the not receiving updates as promised while Benny was away, then it was Benny getting Canine Cough and leaving the program early, and for the finale getting charged $4100 for camp when it was actually $2800. When I disputed with the girl at the front desk she told me I was wrong and made up some price breakdown. Thankfully I still kept in touch with the original trainer to confirm the actual price and had the difference refunded. Had I not went with my gut I still would have been $4100 in the hole. To make up for the lost sessions they offered me 4 private sessions. It's been 4 months and I've only had 1 out of the 4 sessions as promised. When I tried to schedule more appointments at the first session the trainer said that he'd reach out instead. I've reached out to the trainer and haven't heard back. I've been more than patient with Paw Commons lack of transparency and carelessness. I interviewed with so many trainers prior to this and went with Paw Commons bc Heather (former trainer) was that good and she was confident she would get the job done. I did not get to meet the new trainer and I did not get what I paid for. Dog training does not come cheap and I'm grateful I was in a position to afford it but regret spending my hard earned money on something that produced no results. We're still having the same issues we had when we walked into Paw Commons the day of his training. You wouldn't believe me if I told you I paid for professional help. I'm pretty much retraining him myself now using YouTube, Tiktok etc. and now we're making some progress. Ideally I'd like to get my money back or at least half of it so I can pay for proper training. But the way it's looking that's probably not gonna happen. Anyways do yourself a favor and look elsewhere. read more

BETTER THAN MOST It's very challenging finding dog boarding or dog day care and trust strangers with your furry family member. Some places I've brought my dog too had great first impressions and then quickly becomes a horrifying experience after actually bringing your dog there. I was tipped off about Paw Commons and heard nothing but good stuff. This review is specifically for this locations. But first... let me get this out the way 1. Hillcrest is the only location that has indoor and outdoor playrooms. Bay Park and Encinitas locations only offer indoor playrooms. 2. The trade-off, Bay Park and Encinitas offers Standard rooms AND Luxury Suites for dog boarding. Hillcrest only offers Standard rooms. 3. No overnight staff at any of the locations. And limited hours of drop-off and pick-up. 4. They have cameras in the playrooms 5. They separate small dog from big dogs THE EXPERIENCE. They require Rabies, DHPP, Bordetella, and a temperament assessment. By this time, Chloe is use to having temperament assessments every weekend (we've checked out many pet resorts). I decided to bring Chloe to the Bay Park location since I reserved a Luxury Suite when I go on travel (although I prefer to her be at the Hillcrest location). Temperament Assessment is not free like other places - the cost is $10 and they keep her for 4hrs minimum. I dropped her off and the staff seemed like they haven't yet woken up from the weekend. It was I who has to initiate what needs to happen by asking alot of questions. After 4+ hrs I picked her up and again no comments. I had to ask a bunch of questions for them to basically say she did well. Please staff, be more vocal. I asked for a tour and they called someone from the reservation team who was super vocal and friendly - I liked her vibe more than the front staff, she was more welcoming and didn't sound dead. I am so happy I reserved the Luxury Suite for my dog, its a big room with a high bed, couch, and flat screen tv - makes them feel like home. I did see the Standard room and was impressed that it's very spacious - imagine a tall room with the width of a twin size bed. Overall, Chloe seemed happy coming out of this place. I even spied on her on the camera and was happy to see the playrooms were not packed and all dogs were getting along and she was being taken care of. So far, so good. I've got a very needy dog, and every time I bring him to Paw Commons, he comes home tired and happy. The staff there are really wonderful with him. I've also had a few training sessions with Heather and she does wonders with us. I can't say enough good things about the Paw Commons 3 week training camp at their Bay Park facility. My girl came in super active and excited, especially when people visited our home. She also pulled a bit on walks, especially with my more permissive husband. After 3 weeks at the training camp, working with Haylee, Daisy now readily places on command and stays when people enter the house. My husband, whom she used to bark at and jump on excitedly every day when he came home from work, can now enter the house while she stays on her cot. After a few minutes, I release her and she's much calmer and able to greet him appropriately. Same with guests and the cleaning crew. Such a difference! On walks, Daisy now heels beautifully and no longer pulls my poor husband all over the place. She sits and stays really well, even when greeting people. The 1 hour training session I got upon picking Daisy up was especially helpful and allowed me to reinforce at home the training she received. Very disappointing experience. Made a reservation to keep my dog over the weekend. Agreed to ALL the extras which doubles the price only to get there on the way out of town to be told my puppy needed his distemper shots in order to stay there. Our puppy is up to date with his shots and we were told he was too young for distemper shots by our vet. Needless to say we are now scrambling to find someone to watch our dog and still make our flights. It would have been nice for them to say something while I was in the phone rather than surprise us on the day. Very unprofessional. read more

My dog had a seizure for the first time while staying here and they handled it perfectly. Kept in constant contact with me and kept a watchful eye over here the whole time. I was worried sick, but they eased my nerves so much. I've always had a good experience when dropping Luna off at Paw Commons and i love watching her run around and play on the webcam they keep broadcasting. I would recommend this place to everyone! When I entrust my babies to anyone else, whether a kennel or a neighbor, I base my decision not only on how they treat my pets but how they treat me as well. I have contacted this facility on Morena blvd several times (at least 4) and asked to speak with a manager... however, one was never available. Also the person who answered the phone reach time said that yes a manager was there but they were currently busy with another task. So I asked to leave a message each time...yet I never received a call back. Not one. It goes to show that their infrastructure and customer service/concern is second to... money? I don't understand, because without happy customers they can kiss their cash goodbye. read more

I have been day boarding my puppy, Teddy, at the Bay Park location for a month, two weeks of which was Puppy Bootcamp. Key is Teddy's trainer, who is a patient, knowledgeable, kind, and excellent trainer. Teddy was able to grasp basic commands during this short time. Key sent multiple videos showing Teddy mastering his new skills. Key is open to texts, calls and any follow up questions and concerns I may have. We have been huge fans of Paw Commons Hillcrest. In July, we moved and started using the Paw Commons Bay Park location. The entire staff is helpful and friendly. We cannot praise Heather (the trainer) enough. The board and learn program was worth every penny - our Aussie is like a brand new dog. Its like she taught us a whole new language. We communicate efficiently and in return, our Aussie respects us and is obedient. Surprisingly, we have found he has even become more affectionate. We were fostering puppies and took about three weeks off from daycare (usually, he would go once or twice a week) - when I pulled up to Paw Commons this morning - our Aussie let out a cry of excitement and happiness. My two dogs go to daycare at the Hillcrest location 2-3/week but I had never boarded them before last weekend when they stayed at Paw Commons Bay Park. I was nervous to leave them but the staff here are so warm and welcoming, I really trusted they'd be safe and happy. I love being able to check in on the web cams- I checked in once to see a staff member loving up on my puppy and it just melted my heart. One of my dogs was born blind and while she doesn't need much special attention, the staff are gentle with her and make sure she's always okay. The staff here are just truly exceptional. I couldn't recommend Paw Commons more. I'm so happy to have found a home away from home for my dogs. read more

After months of not being able to leave him at home alone due to destructive husky tantrum antics we needed help. Our evaluation let us know that Heather knew her dogs and was going to love our dog while he was away at the board and train. A month out of it and we can leave our husky at home alone with no crying and no destruction. Heather helped us be better dog parents and helped Echo learn what behavior we needed from him.
