My boyfriend and I recently took our Husky to Heather to work on his separation anxiety. After months of not being able to leave him at home alone due to destructive husky tantrum antics we needed help. Our evaluation let us know that Heather knew her dogs and was going to love our dog while he was away at the board and train. A month out of it and we can leave our husky at home alone with no crying and no destruction. Heather helped us be better dog parents and helped Echo learn what behavior we needed from him. My dog Blue and I have been going to Paw commons for a year or so.  There we met Heather who trained our dog Blue a Husky.  Blue responds very well and just loves her. She has been the best trainer welcoming questions and concerns we have about Blue and his training. Blue also goes to daycare there and I like that they enforce his training. Blue also loves the staff, they are just great with him. Paw commons is great because they have different locations where your dog can go for different experiences. Can't say enough great things about this place!! Everyone is always so friendly and genuinely has their best interest at heart for my dog Tucker. I wanted to shout out one person in particular though who has truly changed not only my dog, but my boyfriend and I. We have been working with Tom the last few months to work on Tucker's focus, leash training, and reactivity. Tom has been nothing short of amazing while working with us and Tucker. We (as dog parents) thought we had hit a wall with Tucker, as his reactivity to people and other dogs was too much to handle. We were embarrassed to even take him out in public because he almost always caused a scene. With Tom's help, Tucker has seriously transformed. Tom has provided us with the tools to correct these behaviors and we are able to control Tucker versus him control us. I've been using paw commons for a while and always loved my experience. My pet always has a good time and is tired after. They always made sure he had everything he needed and remembered my random requests (like food etc.). They make sure to keep in contact with you as well. This is a great facility with kind staff members. Looks clean and I know that the staff so their best to pick up after the dogs. What I didn't like is how my dog came back extremely wet full of pee. Not dripping, but it was all over our dogs legs and belly. The second thing that I didn't like is the fact that I went over everything in detail during my booking (at the front desk). I was never told about these additional items that added up to over $30. We called the next day after we saw the itemized email receipt and was told, that we should sign an estimated quote before we signed up to make sure that their are no issues before booking. I wish they would have told me that when I actually booked, not after. I will definitely not be going back for that reason. Again, this is a good place. My dog, Georgie, LOVES The Golden Paw!! He is 13 months old and adores the entire staff. He has a very special love for his trainer Christy. We're now enjoying our 3rd class with her; he has learned so much as a puppy!! Her education has obviously equipped her with extensive knowledge of animal behaviorism -- it is very apparent in her top-notch training practices. She's awesome! Georgie has also had some 2-3 night stays, day-play and grooming sessions which have all been very positive experiences. I know Georgie loves the folks and the facilities at the Golden Paw!! The tail is a dead giveaway!! It wags like crazy each time we pull into their driveway!!! You and your dog will be so pleased to experience the good work that they do!! I just finished the 4 week board and train with Heather. Hands down work every penny. I have a giant German Shepard puppy who is generally well behaved but needed some discipline and focus. You would never guess he's an 11 month old puppy by his demeanor after the training. Listens attentively, no longer pulls, nips, or barks at other dogs while walking. I was worried that he wouldn't get as much attention or exercise as he needs during this. Every day I received pictures or videos and quickly realized I was having a much harder time being separated than he was. 10/10 recommend for all dogs. read more

The Golden Paw is great! I have been getting my cats groomed there for years (Pat does a great job with Kitty & Prince). I've always seen the dogs in the playroom but not until I started fostering and rescuing shelter dogs did I get to experience how great all the staff are. I have boarded my foster dogs there (I recommend the suite with 24/7 live-cam access). The doggies have been to day play (they love love love this). And, of course, grooming which they do equally fantastic for cats and dogs. I had one rescue which Tiffany and all the staff really went above and beyond for. Sam and Ollie were rescued out of Devore, a shelter in San Bernardino, on the day they were scheduled to die. Sam, a terrier mix, was shaking he was so scared. Ollie was a last minute rescue, a black & white Chi. He was the confident one. Little did I know that they had bonded in the few days they had been together in the shelter. I already had 3 animals at home, so I had to find short-term boarding. They took such great care of these little guys that when they moved on to the next leg of their journey, Sam was so much more confident. The staff gave them a "Oh No Mr Bill" toy and this toy followed them on every step of their journey. Soon, Sam was no longer shaking and he was playfully teasing other dogs with Mr Bill. I think everyone fell in love with these two. Happy ending is that they both got adopted to the same forever home in Canada. Ollie broke the ice at an adoption event where he walked right up to this shy little boy. Little did the little boy know that his mom and dad had already agreed to a trial adoption of both Sam & Ollie based on a photo from San Diego. Ollie sleeps with the little boy every night now. Thank you to everyone at the Golden Paw that made Sam & Ollie feel loved so they could be ready for their forever home. The staff at The Golden Paw truly cares. I can only hope one day that shelters can be more like The Golden Paw, a happy place, where animals are treated with kindness and empathy. read more

My wife and I were quite nervous when planning our vacation knowing that we no​ longer have family locally to watch our 2 dachshunds​. After reading positive reviews about Paw Commons for boarding, we decided to give them a try. We had never left them before. Once inside the facility,​ we realized how caring all the employees were while setting our dogs up in their private room. We knew then that they were in good hands with "dog people", and our worries evaporated and we were able to enjoy our vacation. While away were able to check the dog cam and see our girls in doggie daycare​ playing. We also utilized the grooming service, so that they were clean with trimmed nails​ when we picked them up. Left my puppy there for 4 nights and he loved it. I could watch him playing on the cameras and he is a rescue - so you can imagine he is very shy and scared - but he had a blast. The bad thing is that he came back peeing and pooping everywhere, they dont have an outside area to go potty so the dogs just pee right there inside. He forgot the potty training I did but we are working on it again. Then I left him there for a night because I was having a party, just for a night and when I picked him up he was smelling soooo good, they gave him a bath for free :))) Now we are gonna do the 15 day camp training and I hope it works wonders :) read more

My dog has been going to Paw Commons to gain social interaction without thinking he has to protect me! I bought a package deal for half days and I he has been going for almost a year...minus some closed covid time. The staff is super friendly and helpful and my dog comes home tired. I take my pups here for day care and absolutely love everyone! I recently had my 6 month old Golden Doodle do the 3 week training with Heather. I was a little hesitant at first because it's 3 weeks we don't get to see our baby but I'm so happy we did! Heather is an amazing trainer and you can tell she loves what she does! The entire time he was there I got updates and videos of his training progress and I could tell he was getting so much love. We did a training session together when I picked him up where she showed me what they had worked on so we could continue it at home. I am blown away by this business!! First off I was in a very last minute dilemma and they were able to take my pup for 5 days the next morning while he was healing. Every single person I spoke with setting Tucker up was so helpful. He had had complications and needed some extra care and Ben went far out of his way to help me solve my problem and even helped make me an appointment with Grand Animal hospital (another fabulous place). Paw Commons will be my only go to boarding if I'm going away. Plus Tucker can't wait to come do doggy day camp. Highly recommend because I can tell they love our pets as much as we do! read more

Take my pup here occasionally when I have to go out of town, but not any more. While the staff is very friendly and helpful I don't this my dog enjoys this place. When I picked him up this last time he had an open sore on his nose that they said just happened that morning. Most likely due to him rubbing. Not sure what he would be rubbing with the top of his nose but ok he's tough and will heal quickly. What worries me now is we haven't even been home 24 hours and my pup is overall just mopey. Not very engaging at all. He had no appetite till around 4am. By 7am he's throwing up. 5 times so far. I don't know what he picked up but he's not feeling good at all. Going to try Wag or Rover next time. Pretty sure they are cheaper anyway. read more

I can't provide a review on services but I can on my phone call. I have been trying to reach paw commons for several days as my normal boarding place is full and a friend referred me to them. I finally was connected today and asked about overnight boarding availability. For some reason the person who answered the phone would not provide availability until after I created a profile. So after spending over 5 minutes on the phone creating a profile I was told my dogs are too old to board but I was welcome to use their day camps. Dogs are 12. Why not tell me that in the beginning. Why not provide availability before creating a profile. So now I will have to get their spam emails even though I will never be able to utilize their service. read more

Took my baby girl LULU for grooming on yesterday on Monday and she came out smelling and looking good and this time she wasn't traumatized this is the second time for grooming for her. We went to another place the first time and my baby was so scared when I picked her. But this time she was fine. I met with the trainers ahead of time to go over all our concerns and what we wanted to get out of the training before dropping her off (basic puppy manners). They listened so well, kept me up to date with pictures and videos, and made sure to give her lots of love. Collar was never removed, we recieved him back with collar ON, and he never chews his collar.. Do not appreciate being told "there's no way" are you trying to insinuate a paying customer is lying? End of story. Original two story review - Feel terrible leaving this review - Honestly. I usually don't, if I can avoid, but I took some time thinking before leaving, so thought is involved here. We brought our boy Kai here when we were last minute doing a trip to Vegas. We prefer Rover, but no one was available, so we thought we'd give this a shot. The people at front desk were very kind and helpful. Now, here's to the unfortunate part of the review. The ambiance of this place is like a cement cage. That's it. It's cement, and a cage, and a bunch of dogs thrown in there to "play." Whenever we watched Kai on video, he looked very bored and restless. I understand he's a husky, but I figured he'd either A.) Play with other dogs or B.) Someone watching the dogs would engage them, play with them, etc. From out first viewing, the dogs all seemed very distressed and bored, you could just feel it (we probably should have left then.) Short trip,we came back after two days to pick our boy up! When we saw him at first, a once happy go lucky positive dog... He looked incredibly depressed (he doesn't have separation problems, as long as he's at least engaged) and he looked like a different dog. It broke my heart honestly. We brought him home and I was giving him quality time, and noticed his collar was incredibly chewed up (something he's never done.) I believe the cages at night, he was so restless and sad, he chewed up his own collar (this was after I gave them his toys, bones, etc specifically for his time in cage.) Now, I feel badly as I realize my dog may be an exception and that's fine, but I'm only stating my experience, which is my right. We have never returned to boarding him, only Rover, and he is as happy as a clam whenever we pick him up. Sorry, but I truly wouldn't recommend this location. read more

I've been bringing my fur-child Oliver to Paw Commons Bay Park for over a year now between day care, boarding, grooming and most importantly his (much needed) training! Heather has been absolutely amazing on our training journey. I adopted Ollie around 5mo old and to say I was ready for a high energy, anxious, previously adopted and returned pup, would be a lie! Our journey together has not been easy and half of that has been related to his behavior, but meeting Heather and trusting her to help us has been the best decision. She's the only person I truly trust my dog with! She is extremely knowledgable and experienced in her field; you can tell she loves what she does! She has always been honest, direct and communicated well. Ollie has also stayed for a longer term board/train while I was away for work. Heather sent me constant updates, photos and notified me immediately when there was concern he might have an ear infection. She got him right to the vet and kept me in the loop the entire time so my mind was at ease. To see the difference in Ollie's behavior when I returned was unreal and she has always followed-up and checked in with me. We had excellent experience with the trainer Christy, who helped us stop some of Levi's bad barking habits. In addition, we have taken Levi to daycare daily for those 4+ years, until we could work from home due to COVID. The staff at Paw Commons is incredibly kind, helpful and genuinely wants the best for each dog. Levi is especially attached to Yesi and gets very excited to see her everyday. I am new to the San Diego area with respect to boarding facilities. I just recently acquired my two Senior Great Dane girls. I had them in another facility for a weekend trip I had taken earlier this month and at the time of pick up I was dissatisfied with the overall service. I called Paw Commons for my next trip for 2 days which extended it to 3 after a last minute flight rearrangement. I was given a quote for $266 for two nights for both girls. I purchased a Groupon for a two nights free. When I get to pick up my girls I was presented with an invoice for aver $470 dlls. They ended up giving them play time each for all the days they were there instead of the one day I originally ordered. I also asked for an express bath and Valentina came out pretty damp at time of pickup (6:30pm) ... Additionally, on the way home they started to smell like wet dog ... it seems they only watered them down without even using shampoo and drying. After some negotiation with the staff, the supervisor was contacted and she said, well, this time we will honor the $266. I thought in my head does that mean next time a quote will not be honored and they can feel free to add services at their own whim? I am considering not returning since I need someone very dependable for my two girls since I am single, travel quite frequently and do not have anyone to House sit. read more

Things have really gone downhill with this place. I've been coming here (and the old location) at least 8 years for regular grooming. I also take my dog for half-day day play about 6-8 times/year, and everything has been fine with the exception of them constantly trying to upcharge me. "You wanted the tooth brushing and blueberry facial, right?" "No, I did not. I just wanted the haircut." "Your total is $120." "FOR WHAT?! She's 15 pounds." "The haircut plus blueberry facial and deshedding". I didn't ask for that and also my dog is hypoallergenic and doesn't shed... Since COVID all of my dog sitters have moved or stopped sitting, so I took my dog back to Paw Commons for overnight boarding since she was used to the place. She's getting older, so I thought that familiar was best. I filled out the paperwork online. They could not find it. No biggie. I filled out again there. Everything was fine. I got the gold package which included 3 hours in the yard and paid extra for a peanut butter kong. It was less than $85. I took her again overnight....filled out the paperwork online, they called me and asked me the same questions as the online form over the phone, dropped her off and had to fill out the paper work again. So unorganized. They told me my dog needed a vaccine that she had a few weeks ago, which I told them I had scheduled when they called to book my dog's stay, so I had to sign a waiver. It was the same upcharge crap. "You wanted the platinum package, right? And also the luxury suite?" "No, I want the gold package, standard suite, and the kong." I picked her up the minute they opened, and it was $110 because they charged for a half day of day play on top of the gold package and kong. I didn't ask for day play. I shouldn't have to pay for that. When did she go into day play? When you were closed this morning? I was told to specially request no extra play in order to avoid this in the future. *eye roll* Of course there was no manager, and when you call, you sit on hold for 20 minutes. I have another 14 nights booked there for two separate trips in the fall. I'm cancelling those bookings and will be looking for a new sitter. That's $1000+ you're not getting from me. I'm giving three stars instead of two because I like the groomers Pat and Paula (but I'm not sure if they even work there anymore). I don't understand why it takes 4 hours and she sits in a cage all day, but they almost always do a nice job. read more

I had an INCREDIBLE dog training experience with Heather! I bought a pack of sessions to train my lil wild man / poodle mix. Heather is basically the dog whisperer! I loved how we collaborated on a training plan, how involved she allowed me to be in the sessions and I loved that she shared the 'why' behind the tactics we were using. I learned so much about how to keep training my pup on my own, and I was able to build a much stronger and more communicative relationship with my pup. We love this place!! We've sent one of our dogs there a couple times & he always has a really good time. This weekend we went on a last minute trip & they were so good about accommodating us even though our reservations was super last minute. We also ended up picking our dogs up a day earlier than planned & they were so kind for not charging any extra fees for changing our reservation late. They take really good care of our dogs & they have a camera in all of the play areas so you can watch your pups play with the other doggies!! I haven't Evan been here and my interaction over the phone was awful I hate when people waste my time. Simple question can my dog be groomed today.... that question was never answered but 10 min of my time were wasted. They went and called my vet and all this bullshit but if they said she couldn't be seen I would of just hung up. Awful customer service. Next time just answer the question that was asked. ... My puppy's vaccines are definitely up to date, she goes to several doggy day camps and trainings. The point is I would gladly give you all that information if you had an opening, and I scheduled, no openings were available and my question wasn't answered 3 times. Honestly I called another time and specifically asked if there were any grooming appnts open the women told me no and so I said ok thank you I'll call back when I have another free day. Why didn't she ask all those questions ? with calling the vet and Groupon this and that I'm not going to buy the Groupon till I have actually made an appointment and I'm actually quite glad I do it that way otherwise I'd be stuck with your Groupon. Why would I give you all that information and take that time to deal with all that when I can't even get scheduled when I want? When I'm ready and You have something no problem all that info will gladly be given understandable. I'm not sure why that is so difficult ..I'm all set with your services I've never had this issue up until now. Maybe all ur staff members should get properly trained the same way. With no other options for dog sitting services and desperate for a vacation, my husband and I reluctantly decided to leave our two little girls at a pet resort in order to get away. We had never left them outside of the hands of friends or family. After asking our dog-owner friends about their experiences and reading LOTS of reviews, we chose Pet Commons. The employees could clearly see our anxiety and quickly worked to relieve it, giving lots of loving attention to our girls. We opted for a private suite that was clean and cozy, including a TV to keep them company when alone (just like at home). We introduced them to the small dog play area and they quickly began to check it out and meet other friends. We felt a sense of relief leaving there, knowing that they were in good hands with staff that truly enjoyed their work and "clientele." The doggie cam was great to check in on them in the day play area while we were away and we could see them enjoying themselves, running and playing with others. In addition to the day-to-day care, we requested grooming service and their nails were trimmed better than they ever have been from our vet's office. They also smelled great when we picked them up. I don't typically write reviews, but wanted to highly recommend Paw Commons for others, like us, that are nervous about leaving their furry friends in the hands of strangers. My boyfriend and I were in town just for the weekend and needed a place to watch our pup Cooper while we went to the San Diego Zoo. Paw Commons is such a nice facility, with different dog "sized" categories so your pup can find the group right for them. We highly recommend Heather for dog training. Stella would pull and was reactive to other dogs. Other trainers refused to work with us and one encouraged the prong collar, which we purchased, but failed to properly teach us how to use it. We were very disappointed with him because we weren't seeing improvement. We then found Heather, who immediately identified our dog's issues and began to work with her and with us. My husband and I (with our 7 month German Shepherd/Doberman Pinscher mix) just completed puppy training class with Christie Branch. She is fabulous! She has a gentle demeanor and positive attitude and it was truly a pleasure to work with her. She has such extensive knowledge of canine behavior that she was alway able to offer us multiple ideas for troubleshooting scenarios to optimize the training. We didn't feel like robots going through exercises without knowledge of why were were doing it or how it works from the dog's perspective. I have attended multiple other dog training classes with previous pets and can say that this is the best. I would highly recommend Christie! Our dogs also attend daycare at Paw Commons and have boarded overnight. We are so pleased with the facility and the staff. We hired Tom from Paw Commons for a 3 week board and train prior to the arrival of our newborn. We had met with 3+ trainers in the SD area and couldn't find someone that was the right fit for us. Our dog Louie, while a loving and fun French bulldog puppy, struggled with managing excitement levels, general obedience, had destructive tendencies, horrific leash skills, separation anxiety etc. These were behaviors we desperately needed to curb before our baby arrived. In 3 weeks, Louie became a different dog. Hes unbelievably patient and calm around our newborn, has exemplary obedience skills (sit, stay, come, place, off leash) and is now just a delight to spend time with. Basic things such as walks, went from being a miserable experience to the highlight of our day. It was clear that Tom didn't just train Louie, but established a strong bond and friendship with him that is evident by spending just two seconds with them together. While Louie's training was unbelievable, it was arguably more important that my wife and I had the skill set to continue what he had started with Louie to achieve further success once he arrived home. Tom went above and beyond to make sure that we understood the training methods, while working patiently to help us understand how best to work with Louie in various social settings. It is clear his method is not the same for all clients, but rather completely customized depending on the needs of the dog and their owners. If you are having any trouble at all with your dog's training, I can't recommend Tom possibly any more. Getting help from a professional has made all the difference, and it has been unbelievably rewarding to work with someone so knowledgeable, invested and friendly.
