This is the first five star veterinarian I've ever met. 1. The veterinarian was friendly and honest. He spoke about all costs prior to conducting treatment and asked us which we wanted. Furthermore, his recommendation was not for the most expensive treatment; he actually cared about our dogs and advised us to go with a less intrusive and cheaper form of treatment. I was very impressed with this. 2. The staff will conduct a follow-up and ask how your pet is doing. 3. The office was clean and the staff was friendly and proffessional. 4. Despite the fact that I didn't break the bank, I was still treated like a person and not shamed into spending more money on unnecessary treatment. I've been looking for a vet that takes prevention seriously regardless of pet age. When I took Oliver to PAWS for his first visit to establish care they were very thorough. They offer senior pet panels to look at all the possible issues going on. I'm not looking to go crazy but I am looking for reassurance and/or what issues could be going on so we can ensure my dog is living his best life at his age. The tech was very thorough, helpful and empathetic. My dog saw Dr. Keefer and he was SO thorough. His exam was the most involved I've ever seen. Not only did he address health maintainance /prevention but he went over two of my dogs more acute issues and came up with a plan for everything. I just really appreciated how much attention my dog got and felt reassured that he's in great hands. All the staff were wonderful. The office is very clean and nice. I also called and made the appointment within 48 hours of intake. They had every record. I'm excited to come back! read more

Amazing first time visit. I have one shy, compliant rescue pup and another one that can turn into cujo when she is scared and in unfamiliar territory. We just moved here from out-of-state and were nervous about finding a new vet. This place is so calm and welcoming. I've never seen these two less apprehensive at a clinic. The vet tech took a really good history and then the vet came in after actually reading what the tech had collected. Both took lots of time with us, asking lots of pertinent questions and interested in hearing from me about my pups. I am very impressed with our first visit, which was to establish care in the event of future illnesses of our two seniors. My Zeus is my best friend and went through health issues related to an auto immune disease early in his life. THEN he had to have his leg amputated. All of this happened with the help and sympathy of PAWS. Dr. Keaner is Zeus doctor and Zeus loves him. He's a rescue and very timid so although I live in Chandler, I do make the drive to Tucson JUST so Zeus can see him. We found a feral kitten during the start of COVID and PAWS was the best help. Dr. Keaner was always so sweet to our boy and helped him be a healthy cat. I brought my daughter in with her cat for vaccinations and a check up. Everyone was exceptuomally friendly and helpful. We were given options and the price was given to us before we chose what to pick. They even trimmed her nails at no additional cost.The office is very clean and homey. I have been taking Bella and Chewie to PAWS for several years. From the wonderful staff at the front desk to vet techs and the best Vets in Tucson! They truly care as much as I do for my sweet babies. When I first came to PAWS my sweet Bella had torn her ACL. I really was worried about putting her under for surgery to repair the torn ACL. The awesome team at PAWS helped Bella with Physical Therapy and she was on her way to being the crazy fun loving dog without surgery. It took about 5 months of weekly visits two to three time a week. But it paid off. She is healed and "NO" surgery! I was sold. I have been bringing my pups ever sense. I can't thank the staff enough.....but just know I'll never take any of my fur babies future and present anywhere else. It takes a lot for me to place total trust when it comes to my pets. I thought I walked into a spa when I first arrived here. An incredibly clean and comfortable lobby, complete with a small area outside perfect for a nervous dog at the vet. I honestly laughed a bit when they asked to take a picture of my fur buddy for an ID, but appreciated the attention to individualized care. The doctors I've had since going to PAWS have all been pretty good, waiting to approach and work with my dog when he is less stressed. Notably, he never really relaxed, but I appreciated the sensitivity to his needs. When he became more uncomfortable, the assistant rubbed his head and cheeks in an attempt to provide a sensory distraction to the vet's assessment of his nether-region. I can't tell you how much it means to see sensitive care to a being I perceive as family. The doctor listened to ALL observations/concerns I've had with his daily care and even took him on a walk to see if she could observe the concerns on his back leg. I felt that she took care to take time for us and ensure that all of our questions were answered before sending us out the door. As noted below, this does not boast to be the cheapest option for pet care. Prices are a bit steep, but they print out a preliminary list with recommended services and talk over each line with you to accept/decline services. I did not feel pressured into completing any service and felt confident that my dog's behaviors and needs were adequately served. Overall, I truly recommend this place to the pet-owner who is looking for quality care and to those who have more nervous pets. read more

We were so pleased to have found Dr. Keefer and his great staff from Paws Veterinary Clinic when our little chihuahua Mario suddenly became ill. We were here in Tucson visiting family when we noticed our normally energetic and boisterous Mario not behaving as he normally does and suspected something was wrong. Our suspicions were confirmed when we noticed he had swollen lymph nodes the next day. After calling several clinics that could not see him for 2-3 weeks, we were relieved to have found Paws and to talk to Haley who went out of her way to get us in the following day for an appointment. The clinic is very welcoming and the staff were all very friendly. Dr.Keefer put us at ease right from the start with his kind, caring and professional demeanor! He explained everything in detail to us and before we knew it we were at home with his medication and now our little Mario is back at home with his brothers feeling much better and back to his normal boisterous and happy self! I scheduled an appointment with PAWS for a consult because my dog needed orthopedic surgery. I specifically asked if they do this surgery and the receptionist said they did. It wasn't until I arrived at the scheduled time that the a vet tech informed me that they in fact do not do orthopedic surgery. My dog desperately needed the surgery and I felt I wasted 2 days by counting on this clinic. read more

I do NOT recommend PAWS. I spent a lot of money here over many weeks following a very conservative treatment plan that offered no relief for or solution to my dog's dangerously out-of-control skin disorder. Several times they prescribed products they did not even have in stock which took days to arrive. A special food only available through vets was also not on hand though they eventually found a bag that had been returned. PAWS is a new sleek facility with surprisingly basic and ineffective care. I lost all confidence in the doctor here and went elsewhere. So should you unless you prefer a free cup of coffee and a laminated pet ID to a smart swift and accurate diagnosis. read more

I cannot say enough good things about this Vet. About a month ago we took our golden retriever in because he was declining in health due to cancer in his leg and we sensed his time was near. Having never been a patient here before, I was a little concerned about how this whole process would go since saying goodbye to a pet is extremely difficult. We were immediately seen for our appointment... No waiting. They helped us get our dog out of the car on a stretcher and took us to a private room with a private backyard that had a soothing atmosphere like a normal living room. Our dog immediately relaxed and so did we. They promptly spoke with us, offered us a huge range of options and handled our emotions with great empathy. When we ran tests and it was determined it was time to put him down, they were exceptionally reassuring and gave us all the time we needed to decide and grieve. They even allowed us to wait in the comfy room while a few more family members showed up to say goodbye. The actual procedure itself was done with gentleness and great care. The vet spoke reassuring words to us and our dog the entire time. Our dog passed in such a peaceful manner surrounded by SO much love. I was in awe that they would take such amazing care of us since it was literally our first visit there. They gave us all the time we needed to mourn and we were able to exit through a back entrance so we didn't have to deal with the waiting room. Everything went incredibly smoothly in a time that was so heart wrenching. They even handled the cremation and disposal of ashes in such a loving way. A few weeks later we received a card with a personal note from everyone in the office. It was so touching. They also sent us 4 of his paw prints... hand decorated by staff members. I was so happy to find a place that was able to comfort us so deeply during the time of great loss. It meant the world to me! read more

Unskilled, unprofessional, and unethical. I do NOT recommended for the care of any animal. Very disappointed in the care that my cats received. Brought two of my cats in to see Denise Gordon last week, one for shots, while one had not been eating and had been vomiting. The one that wasn't feeling well hissed and swatted at Denise Gordon. She immediately recoiled in horror as if she had never had to deal with a cat not feeling at his best. She then was very timid and afraid to complete the exam or touch my cat without first sedating him using gas anesthesia (isoflurane) in a closed chamber. With this lack of a physical examination and only a very quick health history, she then went on to recommend $800 in diagnostic tests. I agreed to the charges and when all tests came back negative, Denise Gordon then recommended another battery of additional costly exploratory tests such as echocardiography. When I asked what exactly the tests would be looking for (because I am happy to have the tests done if she had a strong hypothesis for what was causing my cat to vomit), Denise Gordon became extremely defensive and justified her treatment course as "this is how I treat all my patients". At that point, I suggested that I would wait and watch the cat over the weekend. However, instead of receiving a phone call on Monday morning asking how the cat was, I received a letter in the mail stating that PAWS no longer was interested in caring for my pets. Nope, the letter did not even a mention my sick cat and whether he was doing better. Given that in the last month my dog was seen at PAWS for routine shots ($368.23, note this charge included optional blood work because we care about the health of our animals), shots for my healthy cat ($112.50), and a bill for my sick cat ($730.81), I think I am more than happy to look elsewhere for a better skilled, more experienced and more compassionate veterinarian who cares about my animals. read more

After hearing stories about how local low cost clinics use metal sutures PERMANENTLY! Or when Petsmart's Banfield accidentally over-drugged my mom's cat and killed him during a dental cleaning. All because she was being cheap, you get what you pay for! If you wouldn't go to low cost clinic, probably even through your POS HMO provider, why would you make your pet? Smart and compassionate pet owners should have money in savings (DUH!) and pet insurance, and think twice before you go to some low cost back alley Vet. I pay premium for my acupuncturists, herbal doctors, and Naturopathic physician for myself and my family, and my pets go to PAWS! read more

When Sara called and asked me to explain my review, she told me she did not work for the veterinarian at the time of the visit. My explanation consisted of how shocked I was by none of the five other technicians in the area came to my aid as i asked for it. With no yelling. The Tech. had dragged me and my dog 20 feet, when I made the stern command to stop and let go of my dog, the technician did yelled at me "not to tell her how to do her job" to which I replied "I never told you how to do your job, I said let go of my dog". The private discussion moments later was in front of my dogs co-owner that consisted of Dr. Jobe telling me not to use the f-word and that I should have gotten her help right away, nothing more than her saying " we could have had an incident here today". No one accept my dog was physically threatened, , and the only cursing, was as I bending over my dog to protect and pick him up, when some one wearing scrubs reached in and I said without looking up, get your "f-ing hands off my dog". so now I hope to speak with the owner about Sara's rebuttal since no one took my account at the time of the visit. I got a new puppy and have been there four times for scheduled visits. The staff is amazing and you can tell they love their jobs. I have owned dogs all my life and have been to a few different vets over the years. Never have I learned so much in such a short amount of time. I appreciated the cost savings tips on healthy treats like carrots, green beans and apples. I learned about the different foods which keep Lexi healthy and happy. She is like family to me and I want the very best. I paid the same price as a friend who took her puppy to a different vet. She did not learn nearly as much as I did. Overpriced, after months of working with these people these are my findings. Don't ask for your $1,200 bill to be itemized because you will get a cold stare. Even then when it comes back it won't be completely itemized, they don't seem to know how much they charge for what. They play on the heartstrings of shocked, concerned and grieving pet owners, maybe a better word is prey. They will offer you every kind of treatment known to mankind for a pet that may not be able to recover. They are not forthcoming in terminal cases either. No matter how much you have spent in the past, don't expect to get a nod of the doctor's head unless you are paying for his time. He may or may not send a message out to you via a tech. Front office is slow, to action, slow to greet, and doesn't seem to mind that you are taking time out of your day, your money earning day, to wait for them to get it together. They often seem to be having technical challenges with their computers. I spent over $3,000 here and still lost my pet. A second opinion told me that she was terminal, and that they never recover from this kind of illness. read more

Been going to Paws for ~4 years, with the first cat I adopted, and since the second. Only done cats there. I absolutely love the place, for a couple reasons: 1. Cat friendly facility. Other vets I've run into treat cats as kind of disposable, but these folks have been wonderful, from a "quiet waiting area" that is good for cats in carriers, to very cat friendly vets and staff. 2. Knowledgeable and sincere staff. I've dealt with three vets, including once with Dr Randy for surgery. 3. Up front and clear about costs and recommendations. 4. Very helpful with "life tips" for feeding medicine to cats! This is not always an easy thing. 5. Gorgeous facility. I know this doesn't really impact, but it really is gorgeous. I've dealt with two semi-serious issues with cats through Paws. One was a cat that ate a USB drive cap, and it lodged in his intestine. Dr. Randy did surgery to remove it. The surgery and treatment went well, and the cat is perfectly health now. Secondly, my second cat had Stomatitis, and the doctor guided me through what to do, and even consulted with and then referred me to a specialist (for what I understand is a fairly technical mouth surgery to remove teeth). They call me when its time for annual visits, or when the rabies or other immunization is about to expire. They call me without fail the day after a visit to check status. I have never shopped around enough to know what the cost is at this facility compared to others around town, but it's always seemed within reason to me. Can't say enough good things about these folks, and its a pleasure to have them watching over the health of my cats. read more

I will admit they are not the cheapest place to go if that's what your looking for but I wasn't. I was looking for a place that genuinely cared about their patients (MY PET) and I am so glad I choose P.A.W.S because they really do! And don't mistake me for a wealthy holistic person who can spend absurd amounts of $ just to have some animal magnetist communicate with their alive (or deceased--yes they actually have a flyer for that in their office) pet's inner spirit! I'm a 26 year old female who along with her 28 year old husband (still in college) spent 95% of my ENTIRE meager savings just to take care of my cat the way he deserves! (and every animals deserves quite frankly!) I truly believe every penny was well spent here and they certainly did not make me feel just like a number! The moment I called to schedule the appointment to figure out what was wrong with my Bubba's (my cat's) leg I felt a slight twinge of relief already (and believe me I am very anxious with very high standards so it's not always easy to communicate with me when I'm worried about something). They initially scheduled me for three days later but then I called them the next day even more concerned cause he had suddenly stopped wanting to walk all together! I expected them to instruct me to put him in a kennel until his scheduled appt since I have dealt with "busy" vets in the past but I was pleasantly surprised when Dr. Aronson agreed to allow me to come in the next day instead since he appeared worried too. From the moment I walked in (the place is so well kept and tranquil) I continued to feel more and more at ease! They were friendly and prompt and understood that he was already under a lot of stress so they took me in fairly quickly. Jason was my Vet tech and he was the nicest most understanding person I have ever met! (anyone who can calmly deal with me in stress deserves a medal!) He briefed me a little but while he took Bubba's vitals before Dr Aronson came in. One of the first things I did was thank him for making a sooner appt and he said that he was concerned too when I called and told them Bubba was no longer walking. He and Jason were so kind and took the time to make me understand everything that they would do to try to figure out whats wrong. They gave me an itemized bill BEFORE doing any of the diagnostics so it was fair to me and allowed me to call my husband to discuss it! I was not so much concerned with the price (as my husband was) as figuring out what was wrong with my baby so we went ahead with most of the recommended diagnostics (mainly X Rays). They took Bubba back immediately to do the xrays (I even went as far as almost instructing Jason how to hold him but instead of taking offense to this, since he obviously knew how to do his job, he told me he understood what I was going through and he would probably be the same way!) so I knew he was in good hands! During the time Bubba was in the back getting the xrays I didn't just have to sit there scared in the waiting room for long(which is lovely by the way--I had fresh tea from their Keurig and watched Tv and chatted with other friendly and satisfied pet owners) Jason took time out of his day to offer me a tour of the facility ( I got to see a dog on an underwater treadmill!-which made me feel a little better being distracted by something so fun).When the told me that he had a broken Femoral head they showed me te digital x rays and clearly explained to me my options. (They also gave me a cd of the xrays to take home). Dr Aronson recommended a surgeon at another office since he was unable to do the surgery himself. I'm writing this review after my experience with that other surgeon (whom I also loved!) since I wanted to see what kind of vets they refer to their customers and thus get the entire idea of how they operate. In all I will be a P.A.W.S customer for life and would recommend it to anyone who loves their pets as if they are their own children like I do! I have 3 cats, 1 dog, and 2 rabbits and hope never to have to have them need this kind of care again but at least I can rest assured I know who I can trust if I do! P.S the only reason they don't get 5 stars in cause my husband has some say in this too and he would have liked the prices to be a little better. read more
