I got several bidding for popcorn(acoustic) removal and refinishing my 4 Bedroom townhomes.While evaluating the bidder I found Jim as most confident about this job along with a reasonable price. Jim's knowledge and talent were obvious from the start. He came out personally to assess and bid the job. He described in detail what would have to be done, the phases of the job, how long the job would take, and how he would protect the rest of the house (floors, cabinets, banister) while the work was being done. He was able to provide very competitive pricing on the spot. We booked the job the next day and they came out the following week. We required several different kinds of repairs. Many of the repairs were just dents from normal wear and tear and holes from hanging of curtains and pictures. Another was a 4 foot long seam in our wall where the drywall had begun to "pucker" due to the house settling. The largest repair was on a wall where we had replaced a sliding door and removed the drywall around a fireplace. Rather than just fix those 2 areas on the wall and blend everything together, Jim said it would be no more work or cost to just re-texture the entire wall and avoid blending all together. In total, there were around 25 different areas (small and large) that needed work. Jim and his crew did the job in phases. The first day they patched, taped, and applied the joint compound and finishing mud. The next day they sanded, sprayed on the texture, and knocked it down. The final day they sanded again and blended the new texture into the old. Every time they entered the house they protected the floors with paper. And every time they left the house they cleaned up. My wife and I are particular. We ask a lot of questions, we watch the entire time the work is being done, and we aren't afraid to speak up if something isn't perfect. So, after the 3 days, there were a couple of areas where we didn't feel the new texture blending quite perfectly with the old. BTW, this whole texturing and blending of textures is truly and art-form (not a science). Jim came out, assessed those areas, agreed that it wasn't up to his standards. After he re-textured those areas he took it upon himself to go around the entire house and re-blend everything just to make sure everything was perfect! And now that everything is done... it looks perfect. Jim and his crew did an amazing job! He didn't declare the job complete until all three of us (Jim, my wife, and I) were all completely satisfied. And we are. I highly recommend Jim for all of your drywall needs and would not hesitate to use him again. read more

I called Jim Peña and his team last month to see if they could scrape off the ugly popcorn ceiling of the condo I've lived in for 17 years, and they absolutely went above and beyond. Besides being extremely accommodating, he listened to me and made suggestions that had me literally telling people that every time I spoke to him my life got better: I mentioned how noisy my upstairs neighbors were and he referred me to a guy (Justin Gallego, also amazing) who could spray sound dampening insulation into my ceiling which he did and the results are life changing. Then when he said they'd have to paint my kitchen ceiling even though there wasn't popcorn in order for their to be continuity I asked if they could take down the ugly light box that was there and not only could they he had a great electrician (Lucas Casias, fantastic) who put in new lighting in the kitchen, moved a fixture in the dining room, and wired a new fixture in my living room which has needed to be done for ages. The ceilings themselves are now beautiful - crisp clean white, perfect texture, they make the place seem so much bigger, I love them. And the cherry on top was the cleaning service he has come in after (don't have their name but they were wonderful) - there is no way to not get popcorn everywhere so he has a team come in and clean up after, the place looked amazing. After hiring a company to re-due the installation in my moms attic, They make 4 really big cracks and a 30 by 40 hole in her ceiling. Two were over 6 feet long. I found Pena drywall on yelp. I picked him because he has his daughter on his front page. That told me he is a family man with responsibility. My hunch was right. Jim and Pedro came by to fix my kitchen ceiling where I removed fluorescent lights and put in can lights, and also to put 10 other patches in the house where I had other lights installed. Jim and his crew are a great group of guys to work with. I took it upon myself to remodel 2 bathrooms and a kitchens the end of last year before my wife gave birth to our daughter in January. Jim and crew did all the drywall work and 7 months later it still looks great. They did a great job of matching textures and blending new drywall where it met pre existing drywall. I called Pena Drywall yesterday to see if they could repair a big piece of drywall on my bathroom ceiling. Jim called me right back and said he could send someone the next day. Today, Jim sent a text saying one of his guys would be out between 1:00 & 3:00. Just before 3:00, his guy showed up, covered everything with plastic and fixed the drywall area and it looks amazing. Jim and his crew did an excellent job of repairing four holes in our kitchen ceiling due to a water leak from our upstairs bathtub. Pedro sheetrocked, taped and textured the four holes and prepared the surface for painting. He was fast and knows what he is doing. I was impressed because before doing any work they prepped the area with paper, drop cloth and plastic to protect the floor, cabinets and appliances. They also cleaned up after they completed their work and left the area spotless. A few days later Scott came by to paint the ceiling. He also did what Pedro did and prepped the area before painting. Five stars is not enough for these guys. From the very start, James did exactly what he said he'd do, was always on time, and provided his bid in a timely manner. My project was tying up a lot of loose ends on a kitchen project I managed myself, so his job included: sheetrock repair and texture to entire wall, finish inside of new construction window sills, float over residue glue remaining from removal of acoustic ceiling tiles, patch up wall with new plumbing, and finish framed doorways. His crew started work within a week of me accepting his bid, and I am amazed by how professional they were. They covered everything, set up walkways to keep my floors clean, troubleshooted when they met a few snags in the project (due to my own errors), and texted me pictures of any items they needed quick decisions on, and they still came out on time and on budget. There were a lot of areas that he could have cut corners or done half the job (retextured the entire wall from end to end instead of just patching up the half of the wall that had paneling removed and needed texture, patching up a wall that was opened by a plumber and retextured the entire wall and the one next to it, patched up window sills and also the walls around it), but he went above and beyond in every circumstance. He did all the finishing touches on my home and made this project compete! Couldn't be happier with Jim's work! I am the project manager of a whole house remodel, for which we had to redo all the walls and ceilings. For half the project I hired a drywaller from Santa Cruz that came recommended to me. While his work was good, they were very expensive, didn't really clean up after themselves and left some spots that needed to repatched. For the second phase of drywalling we hired Jim who quoted significantly less than the first drywaller. He and his crew showed up on time, worked fast and clean, left no trace of dust and were extremely professional. He even fixed the spots the first guy missed and repaired some small damages in the walls that occurred during floor installation for free. Jim is a professional by all definitions of the word! We are moving into a new home and have a 2 year old and a 2 week old baby. The home inspection showed that there were popcorn ceilings which we knew we didn't want around our kids. I called Jim for a quote for work to start the day we got the keys.
