The Davenport is special and the Peacock lounge is great especially for Happy Hour. The drinks are strong, the sevice excelent and the appetizers are yummy. It is also a great place to people watch. Suggestion, eat dinner there vs. the regular dinning room it is more intimate even though it is not that small and when you look up the ceiling is anazing. If you go on multiple nights they even remember what you drink, a true sigh of excellent service. And besides it is a local place even thouh it is in a fine hotel. The Worthy's brought it back to life and Spokane should make them both Saints, one of the few places that realing work in Spokane. read more

I loved this place! Visited twice during my recent business trip. It has a very elegant vintage vibe, and the bartenders were all great, I thought Connor was especially good. Happy Hour offers up half price on drinks, and their fantastic lemon drop martini for $6 is a steal. It's worth its normal $12 price. I had the Cougar gold cheese dip, the prawn cocktail, and the French onion soup on my visits, and all three were absolutely wonderful. I'd even say the soup was one of the best French onions I've ever had! I highly recommend this lounge. read more

So sit down; sit at the bar; take nearly ten minutes to acclimate to your surroundings as your blank-faced bartender busies herself before you, completely oblivious to your existence. Snag a menu from a table behind you; snigger at the descriptions of Huckleberry Humpertinis and Vanilla Venaltinis; make up your mind long before you're finally greeted with a gruff "It's last call. Whaddya want?" What you want is an adequate libation at the clearly unreasonable hour of 11p; what you get is a martini glass of pink Kool-Aid with no discernible alcohol. This place popped up in my dream last night. I'm not really sure how I ended up here... or who the faceless guy in the suit arguing with someone on his phone was... or why the bartender never turned around, yet there were consistently new drinks in front of me. The only thing I can recall was that the huge stained glass peacock looming overhead seemed as magnificent as I ever remembered it in real life during the many evenings I spent here while living in Spokane. This spot is a favorite for many in town predominately because it's always been here. As the local "classy & elegant" bar in the Downtown, the Peacock Room pours a really strong drink, serves up a nice happy hour menu, and offers a cool spot to relax after a long day doing whatever business you do. While sometime there is live music tucked into one of the corners, I must say that it's nice to stop by for a quiet drink with friends or a date. As a college student, I always felt a little out of place coming here, and my friends and I would plan our trips accordingly so that we were dressed up a bit more than the jeans and sweatshirts we'd worn to class that day. That being said, the bartenders are friendly and prompt, and the dimly lit bar is a cozy, well maintained place that feels like a step back in time. If one couldn't see the cars whizzing by outside they might think that the 1914 founder Louis Davenport himself could walk in at any time to share a Crab Louie, invented here in his name almost a century ago. But of course the only way a party like that could occur would be in your own dream... and maybe you or Mr. Davenport could get that faceless cell phone guy to pipe down and drink his stinger. read more

A surreal spot full of 30 year high-school reunion attendees, newlyweds, jacketed old men, barflys, smalltown hustlas, confused traveling salesmen and swindlers. The haute couture meet the hoi polloi. And everything is covered in feathers. One of the most interesting experiences in eastern Washington. People DRESS UP to come here. They take pictures of themselves in front of the bird-feather-themed-stained-glass. They order fancy sounding things and watch to see who comes in. The Peacock Room is pretty cool. The food is pretty good. All in all, its pretty ok. They do make good drinks, and they pour doubles. However, the price reflects it. So, it is one of the better places in Spokane, but not the kind of place you go to and write home about. You will not be disappointed, nor will you be blown away. Oh, they are also open as late as there is business, so they may close earlier than you'd expect for one of the nightlife spots of Spokane. I do like all the stuffed peacocks. read more

I'm really confused about the high ratings for the Peacock Room. I'm a Spokanite and each time I give this place a try (which is usually in 6-8 month intervals) it is always a disappointment. First, when you walk into the bar-estaurant you have no idea if you should seat yourself or wait. There's no sign indicating what you should do. For those folks who are not from Spokane nor have ever experienced the Peacock Room (you know, since this is a hotel, out-of-towners are expected) you end up standing there looking like a fool. I saw a potential three top come in and stand there for about 5 minutes, with no recognition from the staff, only to end up leaving. I have seen this occur no less than 4 times during each of my visits. Second, it is always understaffed. If I am spending $80 on some food and two drinks, please try to schedule more servers than you need, especially on a Friday night. Third, the food is "meh". Way overpriced and not that great to be honest. The prime rib sandwich was undercooked and had virtually no taste if it weren't for the horseradish. However, the cougar gold cheese dip was phenomenal. Last. The Davenport should be a place where all Spokanites can go and enjoy a piece of our history without slashing into your dedicated mortgage payment. My grandmother worked at the Davenport, in the restaurant no less, in the 1950's, so I do share the sentimentality of the hotel and its importance in our community. However, the prices are high and the quality low. I will of course continue to support the Davenport--but I just couldn't write a good review. read more

A very classic room for the town, with great martinis, interesting atmosphere, and historic charm. The stained glass ceiling is a trip. I happened upon a cattle and rice farmer that sold all his product to Japan and Egypt. Distribution is a surly beast. My friends and I LOVE the Peacock Room. The Davenport Hotel itself is the heart of Spokane. I love the history there and looking at all of the old pictures of this city. The Peacock Room has gotten very busy as of late and I'm a little sad that it's become such a hot spot. I understand, but it is harder to get a seat now on the weekends. The music is always great and someone usually starts some dancing up by the band. The drink menu is pretty good, they bring pecans to every table and the service is great. The only thing that I don't like is the food. I have been to the Palm Court (which also does the food for the Peacock Room) and thought it was terrible. I've never understood how such a wonderful establishment could have such awful food. The hamburgers are pretty safe if you are hungry. We usually stop in after dinner somewhere else though for drinks. read more

I'm going with five stars for my short visit to the Peacock Room. I was staying in the hotel and wanted a snack before walking to a different restaurant for dinner. I sat down at the bar and ordered a crab cake and a glass of wine. The bartender was quick to take my order and bring my wine, and the crab cake arrived a few minutes later. I really enjoyed the crab cake with the melon slaw accompaniment. In hindsight, I should have just stayed at the Peacock Room and enjoyed my meal there. read more

Great menu, great wine list and awesome decor. The building itself is breathtaking, considering it's Spokane. Even if it were in NYC or London, I'd be impressed. Didn't get to stay at the hotel, but I did enjoy the Peacock Room for the night. I was starving and asked for the crab cake appetizer, with a side of mashed potatoes. Service was kinda slow, but maybe because it seemed more so since I was starving. Anyway, the crab cake came out and it was a full order, not the appetizer. They were nice about it though and only charged me the price of the appetizer. The extra crab cake served as a free breakfast for the next morning. Also ordered some wine. First glass I thought was disgusting and sent it back. No questions asked, virtually. Then I tried another one, the huckleberry something and it was great. Music was entertaining as well. Peacock has always been our "go to ". Get together , before broadway shows etc . Kind of a tradition . Went there last week and it was so brightly lit ? Felt like a McDonalds . Asked waiter and he acknowledged it was much brighter . Completely took away from ambience and vibe so we left . Went to Safari which is also fairly bright but the lighting was softer somehow ? Will return to Peacock , hoping it was just a fluke .if the garish lighting is the new norm though , will find a new favorite place . read more

My wife, sister in law, and I went here on a Saturday night. The place was empty and surprised me for a Saturday night. Then again I had just finished work off main avenue in the "bar district" as I like to refer to it. We split a cougar gold dip with bread, one of us had wine and 2 split a virgin drink. The virgin was crazy sweet. Too sweet. The cougar gold dip was good, bread ok. Atmosphere was great and waitress did her job. She served us what we asked, with a simple job smile. I'd like to give this place 5 stars just because the decor is so elegant, but I just can't quite get there. It is a fabulous spot for lunch, as they have a good menu and a great buffet for $10 (the options on the buffet change daily but include carved options). This is also a great place to meet friends for a drink, hang out, and enjoy some good music. Now for the small negatives: it has gotten more crowded and it isn't a great place for a dinner. Still, the huge liquor and wine options will garner appreciation from most anyone, and the ambiance is sure to please. read more

The peacock room is a nice spot, we were planning on going out of the hotel for dinner but decided to go to the peacock room for drinks, we got drinks( at happy hour, half off all drinks) and the cougar cheese dip with bread ( so good!). March 26th was our anniversary and we were looking forward to having dinner here. I had called a week in advance to confirm when they opened plus if they took reservations since it was a Friday night. Was told per my phone call that it was first come, no reservations and they opened at 4pm. That day I again checked this website to confirm the time as figured they would fill up rather quickly. We were there at 3:45pm and finally at 4:15 pm was able to get the attention of someone inside the room asking when they opened. They said 5pm. Disappointed to say the least not only because the help did see us and other waiting customers standing out in the lobby. They could have said something sooner. To top it off we parked in the Davenport garage and by the time we got back to our car to leave was charged $5 45 for parking. It wasn't the amount so much but the disappointment in general. The bartender was really friendly, I was excited to hear that they had Hot Buttered Rum, although I've only had this drink a few times, I think they let it sit there too long, by the time it came to my table it was cold buttered rum. Really enjoyed the braised short rib! Very tender and it's hard to keep this from tasting like pot roast, but they nailed it. I decided to give this a place a shot a week or so ago at the behest of some of the reviews on this site. Overall I was pleased but that was mostly because of their choices in single malt scotches, my drink of choice as of late. Their appetizer menu wasn't very extensive but the calamari wasn't too bad to snack on while I sipped Glenlivet 12 year. They seemed to have a good stock on hand as far as alcohol goes and could probably make anything the average person would want. They assumed I wanted my scotch neat which was nice and the waitress seemed to know a good deal about what she was serving, both food and drink. Seems like a great low key place to take some friends for a few drinks before or after dinner or whatever it is you're doing downtown. You shouldn't expect to be able to purchase a cheap drink, but the place isn't exactly a dive bar either and doesn't give off the "cheap drink" vibe. 3 stars is for the bar, cocktails and bartender. If I was just rating the food it would be a one or two at best. I had the rueben sandwich last night while sitting at the bar. Granted it was late in the evening but the meat in the sandwich was the toughest corned beef I think I have ever experienced. I actually could not even bite through the meat. I tried to tear it off with my teeth with no luck. The only way I could actually eat the sandwich was to cut into very little with a very sharp steak knife. I got through about 30% of the sandwich and had to stop becuase my jaw was sore from trying to chew this piece of "leather". Room is pretty with ornate ceiling but dont go for the food. read more
