Gave them a try for the first time this past weekend. Nice atmosphere and staff was friendly. Our server Emma was great, good personality and very attentive. Unfortunately the food quality was not the same. I got the Git er done ribeye. It was thin bad cut of meat. I asked for medium but was overcooked and actually had an unpleasant smell. The baked potato was also overcooked as you could tell been there all day and was hard. The dessert brownie was good. Plenty of gooey chocolate goodness. We first came to Western Sky when we were first stationed in San Angelo in the mid 1970's and it was fantastic. Then we were back again in the mid 90's, and it was fantastic. And now, we came up to visit friends...and it was fantastic. We went during lunch and had their chicken fried steak with German fried potatoes...and it was every bit as good as we recall it. The building has been remodeled over the years but the food has remained the same. BTW if you are familiar with German food, their potatoes are what I remember having in German as Kartoffolen. Most disgusting dinner ever!! My Hubby has been talking about dinner at "Western Sky" restaurant for years. He ate there while on TDY at Goodfellow years ago & thought it was fantastic. We were seated & then greeted by a fly that was trying to die. We asked to be moved to a different table. No one ever came to move us, so we eventually moved ourselves. Then they tried to seat someone else at the same table... fly was still there. I asked to speak with the manager. The owner came over and expressed zero concern, no apologies, said "stuff like this happens because 15 & 16 year olds don't care." I stated that perhaps improved management & leadership would help. This has always been a tried and true dining experience but the last two times I've gone have been utter failures. The last time I got grilled fish fillets and they were severely undercooked to the point of being raw. Today I ordered fried fish and onion rings; both had the same weird and heavy pancake-like batter on them unlike their light and crispy onion rings and fried fish of yesteryear. This used to be one of the things we looked forward to when visiting San Angelo but this is the second time in a row that we could not eat the food. Last time the grilled fish was raw. Today the fried fish had an extremely thick batter on it that was too salty to eat. The onion rings that were my favorite are now made with a heavy batter that's not good. Since we paid for it but did not eat it, we asked for to go boxes and gave it to the homeless people under the overpass. I hated to waste it. read more

It reminded me of the style of steaks we used to get at the Pondarosa steak houses, but back then for the price you expected it. So disappointed we came all this way from out of town. Looking forward to this meal. Service was incredibly slow. My filet mignon was ice cold, when order medium. That has never happened to me before at any other steakhouse. The bacon was not cooked correctly still white and rubbery falling off the steak yuck! I asked the server politely to warm up my steak she became upset and tossed me my plate back. Not only did I wait 30 to 45 mins to get my food back. My family was done eating by that time I received my plate. The server ignored our table the rest of the time not asking for refills or any else. I just box my food to go without hesitation to avoid conflict. Fried pickles over cooked and salty. The only good thing about my experience was the loaded baked potatoe. When ask if everything was okay while paying I let the owner know I was so disappointed she did not take criticism well. I have been to plenty of STEAKHOUSES and Brazilian steakhouses this is a hobby trying different steakhouses in different cities and not one have I EVER eaten a cold steak whether it was ordered medium rare or medium. She tried to tell me medium will be served cold like NO MA'AM the temperature would possibly be room temperature or hotter but not ice cold lady. The steak was tough and no favor. I have always had good food in this establishment. I have only had one time that I had bad service and I never saw the service personnel again. But I'm telling you they are there to wait on you and the weight staff the service and the great feeling that you get when you go into the place is very fantastic. We went to Western Sky after the rodeo and waited over an hour to get in. I do not recommend this place on a busy night as our food was really not good. I probably ordered the wrong steak (dinner steak), but I ordered it medium and it came out almost rare/medium rare. I couldve sent it back, but after the long wait I settled with what I got. The cut itself was sirloin and had a thick chewy silver skin through the center of it and the piece was tough. I am sure that the nicer cuts are better, but this one should not have been served. We really enjoyed our meals. I had a hankering for a chicken fried steak and this place had the best ratings in San Angelo. They certainly earned that rating. It was really good. Not as crunchy as I'd like but the steak, which is sirloin by the way, was fork tender and had a wonderful breading that was quite flavorful. And speaking of flavorful, their cream gravy had just a touch of chicken base in it and was really tasty! My wife chose a taco salad which she really liked. It's not often that I find a steakhouse with good Mexican food on the menu too. Our server was excellent. This is a San Angelo icon. The remodeling that has been done is very very nice. However their prices have skyrocketed. Had the chicken fried lunch steak special. Corn was the only vegetable option. Not great for older people. The chicken fried steak was obviously not hand breaded there - most likely frozen. Breading was very soft and not crunchy. a really really really great steak house! its a dont mess around, no fuss just quality steak with quality cook! the reason the restaurant doesn't get a five star for me is because there was in consistency in the cook of my steak, i ordered the Tbone and half of my steak was rare, while the other half was medium rare, though still delicious throughout, it was very noticeable, the crust was a bit salty for me as well, on the last note, i love there bar and that they serve there drinks in real TX size proportions! overall a really home feel steak house very kind service and overall a delicious steak experience!!! read more

This is probably my favorite steak place in San Angelo. The steak is absolutely delicious! I would recommend this establishment over any chain steakhouse. I ordered the KC for one with an extra set up, and it was more than enough steak for two people. The steak was cooked perfectly! We also started the meal with the large plate of onion rings.....which was huge. The onion rings were equally as delicious. This place was packed when we went which is a true testament to the quality of the food. The only reason this is a 4 star rather than a 5 star is because of the service. The service was not the best. We never got our refills, we had to ask for the same items several times before they were brought to us, and when we would ask other waiters they would pass our request on which would get lost in translation. read more
