I came to Pebbles with this in mind: the ability to get a small coffee and a baked good and have breakfast at 8am in the morning, do a little bit of work, check my fantasy basketball team, and just enjoy the morning. Pebbles Cafe succeeded in all of this. I don't know how the food is, there is a smaller side selection of sweet stuff to eat with coffee, which is good, but not amazing, but sit in a corner windo seat and enjoy the sunshine. Reviews of the staff here are true to form - they are excellent and looking to keep people happy. Always easier to keep a customer than to make a new one, and they've got that down pact. Just happened to stumble upon this little place while I was in the area. I teach classes near the cafe and I was looking for a spot to hang between my classroom sessions. I definitely found my spot! It's family owned and the brothers that work there are very friendly. It's always shocking to find someone in my age group (25) who can actually hold a conversation lol I had an everything bagel with Bacon, egg and cheese. It was tasty. So my friend and I went to this place recently. It was an awful, traumatic experience. I ordered my coffee, a sandwich and a packaged zucchini for the baby. All was fine, until I went to pay. I noticed a "$10 minimum credit card charge + .50 fee" sign on the register next to the Visa and MasterCard stickers. She rang me up. It was over $13, which I thought was expensive for what I got. All three purchases were not very good. I handed her my credit card and said, "Sorry, you can't charge a fee for using a credit card." She tried to say that she had to and I said, "It's against CA law to charge a fee. " (See California Civil Code Section 1748.1 (a) I said she can offer a discount for using cash, but no fee on the credit card. I guess she knew this because she said, "Ok, no fee." When my friend arrived, it was the same story. She wanted to charge a fee and I interrupted and again told her she can't charge a fee. She said she had to call the manager. Another female came over and insisted this was ok. So, my friend and I called Visa. They confirmed the law and said they were in violation and we could report them to the California State Attorney General. They further informed us that we were entitled to three times the amount of the bill if they charged us a fee (for violating the law). Apparently the women over heard this and were talking. My friend informed them that they had terrible customer service. We left with a bitter taste (from the coffee and from the experience). Later, we went to Bello Coffee & Tea across the street. It was a wonderful experience there. Their coffee was amazing and the people were so nice. It was a nice atmosphere and they didn't violate the law by trying to charge a fee for using a credit card. I live in the area but had never been in before. I went in to get a latte while I was waiting to pick my son up from school. The lady there was friendly while making the coffee but then she asked me when I was expecting..... uh - really? Never mind that I had a baby 2 months ago, that's not really the point as nobody wants to be told they look pregnant when they are not, even if they recently were. first day back at work too so I was wearing a dress and heels though frankly I could have been wearing saggy sweats and it still wouldn;t have been appropriate. the coffee was good but I wont be going back for more read more

I met someone here to "work" but assumed it would be a cafe with decent baked goods. They only had pre-packaged muffins and poundcake which looked kind of greasy and scary. I was able to have a cappucino with soy milk while my friend had a sandwich. I guess if I were into sandwich shops this might be a good choice...but I'm not. The owners were very nice and let us stay longer than their closing time. But...it's not a cafe...it's a sandwich shop. read more

Came in for a breakfast sandwich and was pretty disappointed. It seems pretty hard to mess up a breakfast sandwich, but ours were limp and flavorless. You're better off at McDonalds! I really really want to like this place -- I've been coming off and on for the last 3 years with mixed results, but lately I've been reminding myself why I should head across the street to Bello instead -- and today was the clincher: overpriced New York bagel with a sad amount of cream cheese and when I got to the second half of it, a piece of hair was under it...ugh. For a bagel and cream cheese it is $2.75 and you get barely enough cream cheese for half. Also, they just put a slice of cream cheese on it and don't spread it, I hate that. I get nervous when I see those big serve-yourself coffee tins, especially when some of them seem to be flavored brews . . . but i had a nice cup of Caffe Treiste coffee that I actually like better than the Blue Bottle stuff across the street at Bello. Here's the rub: expensive. I can't believe I paid $5 for a coffee and bagel on which the cream cheese was just a garnish. By contrast, I think it's about $3.70 for the same thing at Martha's over in Bernal Hts, and that place is the realness with the quality of the bagel and amount of cheese, too. Seems to me that the more you pay for a bagel with shmear, the less shmear you get. I'm guessing it's because places that do that are trying to eke every penny out. Cause the sandwiches are relatively expensive, too. read more

They make good lattes and the their plan bagel breakfast sandwiches are pretty good. I would agree this place is a little pricey but i like to sit down and read the paper and this place has good light whereas Bello across the street is so dark and hard to read in unless you are staring at a computer screen. read more

Pebbles is an ok second choice to Bello across the street. This is a potential diamond in the rough and I can't image how they could operate as if everything were ok when their main competition across the street seems to bring in about 10x the traffic. There are too many tables. The place always feels awkwardly crowded and the tables are never filled. Get rid of one or two. The music is horrific. It's rare that I would say this, but there was an easy listening song, carly simon or something on a repeat loop there the other day. I though the guy behind the counter would get it after about 3 times through, but on the 5th play I said something. He skipped forward....to the same song, which repeated again. I walked out. The coffee is totally subpar to what's offered across the street. They would do well to focus a on at least making the presentation a little more desirable. The food menu is long, but looks like it mostly come from frozen stuff. They've got a bulgoki offering that's pretty decent, but overpriced considered the other options in town. Three keys Pebbles: simplify, up your quality, and spend a little less time on your iPhone and more on worrying about how satisfied your customers are. read more

There was bacon only on about half of the English muffin and I didn't taste it as much as it was crunchy. This place is horrible. I went there because I thought it would be a nice spot to sit and have some lunch but it wasn't anything near it. The only positive thing I have to say about this place is the comfortable seating. The service was atrocious and she rushed me to choose what I wanted and made me feel as though I were inconveniencing her. The menu is all pasted together and they can't make you everything that is on the menu. I ended up ordering the chicken noodle soup and how dare I assume they make it from scratch. It was over $4 for a bowl of Campbells Chicken Noodle Soup! When I asked for my money back she got very defensive and said they added their own herbs and spices but admitted that yes it did come out of a can. The coffee is not even all it is cracked up to be, Café Bello is still the best coffee in the Glen Park District. read more
