We came for an early dinner so we only had two of the homemade pasta dishes. The goats milk ricotta anolini stuffing was flavorful with just the right amount in each pillow served in a rich creamy sauce. The cavatelli with corn was also creamy and cooked perfectly. A friend and I came in for dinner on Saturday evening while the restaurant was extremely slow. We made a reservation for 10:15 (the restaurant closes at 11). We dined graciously and ordered multiple courses and definitely made our visit worth the while of the staff. However, even though we only sat for an hour and fifteen minutes we were consistently being hurried out of our seats as the server seemed extremely eager to rush us. She hovered over the table asking if we were finished eating during every course; and even attempted to remove plates we were still working on. We were only in the restaurant 15 minutes after close and caused no inconvenience to the business or staff. As someone who has worked in the service industry for over a decade I can completely understand how frustrating it can be for tables to linger. But the fact of the matter is ; we had a reservation at 10:15 and the restaurant t closed at 11. If the business doesn't want to seat late tables on a Saturday night they should remove the option to book at that hour. Unfortunately this is extremely poor service and soured the experience. MML Hospitality Group has hit another one out of the park! Opened under a year ago, Pecan Square Café has a bright and airy feel to it. The staff was exceptionally accommodating despite the fact that my brother arrived over thirty minutes after the start of the reservation. [Thank you and apologies!] I figured -- since I saw every single other table in the place order them -- that the Sweet Potato Fritters would be amazing. They were ... just okay. But the Broccolini Pizza was perfect. (They use the dough from MML's "Favorite Pizza" for the crust -- YUM!) You know that you've a good thing going when two New Yorkers can sit across from each other at a table in Austin and both be pleased with the pizza. With the sunshine beaming in through the windows and the city skyline visible just beyond the glass, this is a really nice spot for a pleasant, quiet weekday lunch. read more

Although we have eaten at Pecan Square twice before, supper last night was such a disappointment. Our $28 Raviolini was 6 tiny pastas that had zero flavor and zero color. It came out the same time as our pizza. We ordered the Sausage and Kale Pizza with extra cheese; there wasn't any noticeable cheese. Pizza was just okay. Service was rushed although getting a drink was very difficult. There are so many other choices... I think the place is attractive. I am not in a hurry to go back. read more

I stumbled upon this place while walking my pups around the block from our AirBnb. I liked the location and the outdoor environment, so we decided to check it out the next morning. Let me say one of the BEST experiences of receiving high quality service. I'm not even sure who our waiter/waitress was because everyone was helping us! Our water glass wasn't allowed to go empty, they asked which type of water we even preferred, one person got our drinks, another got our food, multiple people poured our water, another checked on us and brought our food out. This place was SPOTLESS clean, like drop your fork on the floor and still use it kind of clean, but then again if that would have happened they probably wouldn't have even let me pick it up off the floor. The waitresses/waiters had outstanding personality, joked along with us, and made us feel every bit of welcomed. The bathroom, let me say I didn't want to leave it. The lighting, the candle, the ambiance, the feeling of calmness that was created for the bathroom..just wow! I didn't even have to go but was told that I had to check out the bathroom so obviously I had to lol. Now to the food..delicious, superb! Very well put together, every bite had you wanting the next. Garbage seed oil which is so bad for you. Most higher end places are frying in duck fat, Avacado oil, tallow or something much healthier. We had a delightful lunch at Pecan Square Cafe--every dish we had was wonderful! To start, we had pecan sticky buns (it was lunch on the weekend, so I guess brunch), and they were so tasty. Next, we had a pesto tagliatelle pasta--even though it was a pasta, it was so light and airy, and I'm sure the pasta was handmade; I couldn't get enough. To finish, we had a sausage and shishito pepper pizza--it took a smidge longer to come out to our table, but it was perfect and so worth it, with a chewy yet crispy crust. We came here for a bachelorette party for dinner. Super cute place! When we arrived the table wasn't quite ready so we sat outside and ordered some drinks while we were waiting. They had an option on their menu for a non-alcoholic beverage to be substituted in any of their drinks called "slow rocker", I believe. My friend on the trip was super excited about this because she was not drinking due to possibly being pregnant. We each ordered our drinks and sat chatting still waiting for the table. When the drinks were ready, they waiter came back and was reading off the orders and when it came time to give her the drink, instead of saying the slow rocker cocktail, he said "who ordered the nonalcoholic drink" and since she was trying to not be obvious, she was worried to raise her hand. The waiter repeated "who ordered the alcohol free drink" and she was forced to say she did. I know the waiter didn't think anything of it, but if you are going to have a special non-alcoholic drink on your menu, he should have just called it by the name. It made my friend really upset because of course if lead to questions as to why she wasn't drinking. After that we went inside and sat down at our table. The food was amazing and for 10 girls we did split a lot of food. The pizzas were delicious and the chicken was super flavorful. I would go back next time I am visiting Austin. My only complaint was wishing they hadn't made my friend feel so uncomfortable with drinking a nonalcoholic beverage. read more

Zichini was crunchy, light, freahly fried and very good. Tagliatelle was nice size portion and the chili crunch really cut thru the vegetal pesto. This place is lovely! I made a reservation for a group of girlfriends for brunch. There was plenty of availability. It's a bit hard to find as it is in the middle of a complex, a little hidden from the street. At 11 am it was not busy at all. Our server was fantastic. She was really sweet and down to earth. I came here with a group of girls and we were meeting for the first time. The ambience was good for talking so it was a great setting to get to know one another and the restaurant is really cute. The food is ok but really overpriced. We got the squash fritters to share and they were really crispy but quite oily. For entree I got the daily fish and it was nice and crispy but was quite a small portion size for how much it cost ($34). The cocktail I had was very refreshing and was recommended to me by the server but I couldn't taste any alcohol. The servers are really nice and the service was pretty quick!! My wife and I winged coming here after she picked me up at the airport Thursday night around 6pm. I forgpt to take more pics, but we had a wonderful fruit salad and some pate and shared a pizza and cheese plate all after a cocktail and with a bottle of champagne following that--our server steered us towards much of what we tried and he was really great all night...the Sommelier on hand was also a delight. What an absolute gem of a restaurant! My boyfriend and I went here on a date night on Friday and had a great time. Service was superb! Door opened for us when we walked in, sat at table right away, waiter was great, food came out fast. Don't know if I've had this great of service in Austin in a long time. The manager was even helping out as well. They take good care of you. Started off with a beer and cocktail: Bie's Knees. Delicious!! We skipped the appetizers this meal and I'm very happy we did so we could get a salad and three entrees instead. The local lettuce was literally just lettuce. It was good with great dressing, I just wish there was some cherry tomatoes or maybe some Parmesan on there. We then split two pastas: the sweet potato cavatelli and the handcut tagliatelle. Both were delicious and my favorite part of the meal. They had a little bit of a kick - I wouldn't say spicy because I don't like spicy but it was unexpected. I would get both dishes again. Then we split the sausage and pepper pizza, it was okay. The actually pizza with the sauce, crust, etc was good. I personally didn't like the sausage and peppers. I wish they just did a normal pepperoni pizza, it would be delicious. Overall, fantastic date night spot. It is pricey, so be ready to spend some money. Our meal came out to around $140. I really wanted to like Pecan Square Cafe and visited on two separate occasions for lunch. The restaurant fashions itself after San Francisco's Zuni Cafe where the dry-brined roast chicken is consistently juicy, delicious, and well-roasted and the gnocchi is transcendental. Pecan Square is not the Zuni Cafe. On the first visit, we ordered the $72 roast chicken, a salad, and the tagliatelle. The roast chicken was dry and came sitting on a bed of wet spinach -- which caused the chicken skin to lose its crunch. Not worth $7.20 much less $72. The tagliatelle was not bad, but very rich. On the second trip, I ordered the citrus and arugula salad and the papperdelle. Everything about the citrus salad was wrong. The segmented oranges had their piths removed, but not the seeds. Every orange piece in the salad contained seeds, and the arugula was so oversalted that the salad was inedible. The papperdelle had been dressed in what appeared to be olive oil and was served with plain brisket. It was not good. While the overall feel of the restaurant is lovely and warm, I do not plan to make another trip back. read more

We went to Pecan Square for dinner, we had to make a res several weeks in advance to grab a Friday night table. The ambiance is great, tucked away and very intimate and warm. The menu isn't very extensive so we passed on an appetizer and ordered drinks and dinner. Everything came out super fast, within 10 minutes. The drinks were delicious as were the entrees, but it is just ridiculously overpriced. It is hard to justify a $25 plate of pasta when you could get just as good for a much lesser price at one of the other great restaurants in town. We finished with the cheese plate for dessert - another extremely overpriced option for a small slice of Brie cheese. It was a nice dinner, but so pricey for what it is - as are most the of MML concepts. We might return to try breakfast here but will probably select other spots for dinner. read more

One of the few places open for brunch on Christmas Eve and I've been wanting to try it for a long time. The inside is beautiful. The food is unexpected and everything was delicious. My 8 year old and 6 year old loved all of the food too. Local Lettuce - loved this, kids did too Sweet Potato Fritters - excellent Broccolini Pizza add an egg - awesome Schnitzel - great, not greasy, lightly breaded Sticky bun - great Kale, egg, sausage - good. I had high expectations of this restaurant after reading all the great reviews-- we decided to come here for mom's birthday because she loved the Zuni cafe in San Francisco, and we were hoping we could give her a little bit of that. The space itself is beautiful and really does remind us of Zuni, but that's where the similarities end. Service was okay- there was valet in front, which was really nice because parking in that area is a bit tight. We were greeted by all the staff walking in, but our server was a bit...odd. We got the sense that he very begrudgingly wanted to serve us, and generally really didn't want to be there. Maybe it was because we brought out baby with us that he wasn't very excited about? Maybe he was just having an off day-- I get it, having served tables myself, I get that sometimes you're just over waiting on people all day. But ... ya gotta fake it. For food, we got the snow crab salad, which was very delicious. The sweet potato fritters which were very oily and kind of gluey. Mom ordered the pork chop, which was so salty it was almost inedible. My husband got the fish, which we liked, but it sat on a bed of crisp rice that was sitting in a pool of oil at the bottom of the bowl and was also almost inedible. (The server we had raved about how great the rice was, so we were very disappointed that we couldn't even eat it.) I ordered the oyster mushroom pizza, which was really delicious- I had no qualms about it- but I also really love pizza. I was so excited to try this spot with my girlfriends. As for pros, PSC has a great ambiance and an amazing wait staff. The drinks were delicious and the highlight of our experience. All of that to say, the food is far overpriced for the portions, and the flavor of each dish was hit or miss. The crab salad and onion fritters were nothing to write home about. The squash blossom pizza was also just okay, but for the price, we were expecting it to be exceptional. The fish entree was probably the most raved about, but again, portions were tiny and my friend was left still feeling hungry after she completed her meal. If you're hungry, the chicken or the steak are your best bets, but expect to pay a premium for those options. One more thing to call out for friends who are gluten-free due to food allergies - there are no clear GF indications on the menu. We emailed in advance to make sure that there would be GF-friendly options available, and were assured that there would be, but the wait staff answerd "I think so" and "maybe" when we asked if certain options were GF upon arrival. She mentioned that she'd follow up to confirm, but that never happened. This may not be a huge issue for people who are gluten insensitive, but for two of my friends who have celiac, this made them quite uncomfortable.
